Another hot and humid 6 miles this morning. I am getting a bit tired of the humidity. But all in all it was a nice run. The first couple of miles felt like a bit of a struggle, but once I got into it I enjoyed the run. I saw a great blue heron this morning. It was pretty neat. I was crossing a bridge and I looked down just in time to see him fly from one side of the creek to the other. I didn't really see any other wildlife today. Just the typical birds and cats.
I was excited to get the RTY 1400 miles bib today. @Tramboman Looks like we are on track to get the 2020.

@Camaramandy648 Congratulations on your accomplishments with the 150 miles and your 3rd place. That's awesome. Yep. I recommend sleep, not that I have any experience with such distances.0

Got out this morning for my scheduled 40 minute Foundation Run. I got up earlier than normal so I could get out before it got too hot. I didn't get out as early as I had hoped. It was 9 am when I hit the pavement, 75°F and 74% humidity. I was thankful for the shade on the driveway. It was hot, but not horrible. I ran 3.1 miles and walked 1.

Still not running - knee worse instead of better. It seems like not running on it doesn’t help. Continuing to do whatever doesn’t hurt, trying to keep my running fitness without actually running. 6.4 miles walking, 20 minutes hard stationary bike.8

Yes we do! But we are in good shape.
@rheddmobile I'm so sorry that your knee isn't any better.2 -
@rheddmobile So sorry your knee is doing any better. I know that is really frustrating.1

I went to Body Pump last night, so no run. I’m not feeling great today, but I might try to get in a 30 min walk or so when the sun goes down a bit and it is slightly cooler.
I don’t know if any of you read The Oatmeal comic, but they put on a race every year in Washington called “Beat the Blerch,” which is a character from the comic about running. In the race, a giant “blerch” chases you, and they feed you cake on the course. I have always wanted to do it. This year they are doing it virtually, so I think I might sign up to do the half. It had a pretty fun looking goodie box.

My daughter and I ran the race in Washington a few years ago and it was really fun other than the trail had a lot of large river stones and was very tough on my knees. I got the email about the virtual and really want to run it 'with' her again. She would run in Seattle and I would run here in CA. Now I just have to convince her that she wants to do it too, easier said than done!5 -

That's cool @marisap2010 and @shanaber. I love the Oatmeal and that's some fun swag.
@Camaramandy648 congratulations on your huge accomplishments!!!
@Scott6255 great job - you ran! Glad your intro back to running felt good and I hope it continues like that! But sorry about the stressful near accident while driving!
Good job everyone for getting out there in adverse weather - hot and humid, freezing cold and windy, pouring rain - we've got it all covered here.

I was on the brutally hot and humid end of things along with many of you. It rained a bit today but the humidity did not seem to break at all. We actually had a run group workout tonight as coach is starting slowly to get back to having regular groups - but socially distant of course. He offered a few sessions this week again as he had before with the price of admission of donations of food to families in need.
The workout tonight was a dice roll, where coach always does 6 rolls of the die and we have to do intervals of however many minutes as the number rolled with 90 seconds recovery between. The gods were certainly displeased and showed no mercy tonight with rolls of 6-6-4-6-5-6, which might be the worst in the history of doing this workout. I gave it what effort I could given the heat, and was happy to be averaging a 9:30 pace or better for most of it.
I don't anticipate a ton of miles for the rest of the week. I'm headed back to the Adirondacks for more hiking - and this time staying over instead of driving there and back in one day. So excited about that part!9 -
@katharmonic That does sound like a brutal workout! You did great though. Enjoy your hiking! Looking forward to seeing pictures.1

Sunny, mid 70s F, with humidity and no wind. Back decided to be cranky again today, but I was planning on going slow anyway. Probably went a little overboard yesterday, and have no one to blame but myself. Glad I hydrated before going out.

@Tramboman Sorry your back is still cranky. Hope it gets better.
I was going to get up early to run this morning, but a friend asked me to play tennis. So, I got up early to play tennis instead. It was hot - no shade on the courts. We played for almost 2 hours and I burned nearly 500 calories. Not bad. It was fun. I like playing singles because you get more cardio covering the entire court.4 -

So hot out there. I went out at 7 and got it done, slowly and stiffly. It was lower 70s and humid and felt miserable. Now it's 90 feels like 98.
I need to get myself packed up for my trip to the mountains. See you all later.

July Total: 21.6/75 miles
I’ve been feeling a bit burnt out on running. Most of which comes from having to get up extra early to run before it gets too hot out. I am not a morning person so it makes me dread every run. But I’ve been doing a new route which helps and this morning I ran 5K in under 30 minutes for the first time ever!10 -
@quilteryoyo Sounds like a nice change of pace for your workout (except for the no shade!). I think tennis looks really fun, I should probably look into learning how to play once it's safe to take lessons.
@Shortgirlrunning Congratulations on the PR! I agree with you, it can be harder to stay motivated in the summer.2 -
@Shortgirlrunning Congratulations on the PR! Maybe that will help motivate you to keep going. I am not a morning person either, but I'm trying to get up early so it's not miserable when I run. I do have the option to use the treadmill though, so that's nice.
@janejellyroll You should totally try tennis. It's fun. Or, there's a new similar game that a lot of people love called Pickle Ball. I haven't played it, but friends have and say it's really fun, no matter the level of your play.2 -
7/1/20 – 5.02 miles
7/4/20 – 14.02 miles
7/6/20 – 5.15 miles

Yesterday was a beautiful morning to run but it was very humid. I had also forgotten how many hills the Cade’s Cove loop has in it! It was a nice break and change of scenery though. Although it was nice not to have to worry about cars, there were hundreds of bicyclists, a few runners and several walkers on the loop. I overslept – which never ever happens so we got there about 30 minutes later than when we had planned. We arrived about 7:50 am and the parking area was almost full with people already parking along the entrance road. We saw a few turkeys, a couple of bears, and some deer.Me running along the road
Bear looking for a snack near the picnic area in the parking area after we finished.
Congratulations Camaramandy! Amazing 10-day run!
@Tramboman – Love your “new shoes will never hurt you” phrase!
@marisap2010 – I remember someone in our group running the Beat the Blerch last year. Sounded like a lot of fun!
@katharmonic – There are some great hikes in the Smokies. If you’re ever down this way, give me a shout. Maybe we can convince @quilteryoyo to join us for one. Hope you have a great get-away to the Adirondacks. You know we need pictures!
Congrats on your new 5K PR @Shortgirlrunning!

It was another hot and sweaty 6 miles for me this morning. It was already 80°F feels like 84°F when I got up this morning. But the humidity was "only" about 78% and there was some breeze today. On mornings like this I just have to remind myself that it will be much hotter later today when it is 100°F with heat indexes around 105° to 107°. It is 10:30 in the morning right now and the heat index is already 96°. It took me a couple of miles to get into it, but once I did it was a pretty good run. It was pretty uneventful, but other than the heat it was a nice looking morning.
@marisap2010 That looks like a fun race.
@ABabilonia If you are like most of us, your monthly goal is just an arbitrary number that you picked to run this month. Don't worry if you don't always (or ever) meet it. If you are putting in the effort to meet it then that is what is important. Besides, it's only the 9th day of the month. You've got plenty of time.
@Tramboman Sorry your back is still cranky.
@katharmonic I'm really jealous of your hiking in the Adirondacks. Have fun this weekend! And that workout sounds brutal. Did he let you see those dice, or did he just tell you what he rolled?
@Shortgirlrunning The heat is what forced me to become an early morning runner. Now I love it which is surprising because I have never been a morning person. And congratulations on your 5K PR!

Welcome @jntollaware !
Did a quick skim....Congrats @Camaramandy648 on the run! and @Shortgirlrunning on the PR!
Sorry about the various niggles and injuries too!
I have found that cross training takes less out of my hip so today, I did a modified triathlon using the Peloton app. A 30 min run outside, before it hits 101 , then a 45 bike ride and then added a 30 min strength class. It was fun!
We are heading into a very hot stretch so running is going to get tough....🥵🥵

Thanks all, for the congrats!
@Teresa502 you saw a bear?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!
My sister just texted to show me groundhogs in her garden and said they carry rabies.
I sent her a video of the groundhogs I see on my runs and they never bite me so I think I'm fine.
Her garden is pretty.
Sisters are weird.
The roll the dice workout sounds BRUTAL.
A couple of friends took me to play my first game of mini golf last night. First game - IN MY LIFE. It was nice to be moving around and I definitely did not win. They want to go run together Saturday. i told them I am happy to run/walk but my body is suffering from DOMS for sure. the IT band was screaming yesterday in the right leg. Much better today, but I plan to take it easy for at least a week. I think the binge helped me to get some things out of my system and now I don't feel like I have pressure to achieve so much.
Until next week, that is. Because I must be a psychopath and signed up for the Stunner run put on by aravaipa running. It's just July 13-18, so only a few days and I plan to put much less pressure on myself this time. I think it will be a good time.
I am really proud of you all for getting out there and braving the elements! Keep going!
Also @Tramboman - agree about loaded dice and i Hope your back feels better!3 -
@bearly63 Oh my gosh, that's some heat you've got coming up.
@Teresa502 I think after I saw the first bear that would be the end of my run.1 -
-
@Teresa502 We must have posted at the same time earlier because I missed the bears. That run looks very pretty, but I don't know about bears. I think that would be equal parts exciting and terrifying.2
