Thanks everyone. Feeling the prayers. I just spoke to his mom. That was hard.
Reading everyone’s posts and what’s happening with you guys helps.5 -
I'm so sorry @hamsterwheel6 for your loss and that you can't travel to mourn him together with other family members.0

@Scott6255 Glad you are almost back to normal and congrats on meeting your monthly goal already!
@Teresa502 THREE miles of hill repeats! That's awesome! Definitely more than I did!
@hamsterwheel6 So sorry for your loss and that you can't go there to be with your family. Good for you to get out and run anyway.

When I got home from work today it didn't feel horrible outside - cloudy, a little breeze and only 81°F at 3 pm. Humidity was 54%. So, I decided I'd run outside today - just felt the need to be out in nature. I started with a warm up walk with my dog in my neighbor's field. I changed to my good running shoes and did a 30 minute foundation run (easy pace) on the drive way, followed by a half mile cool down walk.
I must say it was hotter than I thought it would be. The clouds came and went, the breeze quit, and I just felt really hot. It was not an easy run, but it was slow. On my news feed, @shanaber said her run felt like a turtle running in peanut butter. That pretty well sums up mine too. At least it was a shorter run, so I survived.
Also 11.25 of 20 walking.

4 running miles plus some walking on our usual railroad access road. Weather was lovely, almost cool and overcast! Strava says I got in a sub-10 minute mile, which hasn’t happened for a while on an easy run! Hopefully my knee is up to handling the pace increase from the cooler weather.
My partner and I are leading the 50 mile ERace racism challenge - there are 47 days in the challenge and after 5 we are 8 miles from goal. I feel like we bit off less than we can chew! We had a long talk and decided when we finish, which should be tomorrow, we are both going to swap to the 100 and request each other as partners so we can keep going together.
I’ve been reading historical info on the route we’re taking, which goes down the Martin Luther King memorial highway from Chapel Hill, NC to Greensboro. In 1960 Martin Luther King spoke at a church in Chapel Hill. And also in 1960 but unrelated, the Greensboro sit-ins at the Woolworth lunch counter took place. At this exact moment we are virtually outside Sedalia, NC, where there is a historically black college museum, the Alice Freeman Palmer Memorial Institute.5 -
I'm tired of record breaking heat and fires. Our electric company has asked us to reduce power usage tonight because a fire took out a big power line & we could get roving blackouts if we don't ease up on power.6

I'm sp sorry for your loss @hamsterwheel6 and so sorry you can't be there. Big hugs to you!
@marisap2010 I'm so glad your test came back negative.0 -

I ran 6.6 miles this morning and it was a beautiful 66°F. It was a lovely run. It was so nice to start out cool after running at 85°F at 6 in the morning. I am "on vacation" so I drove over to my sister's house (outside of Ft. Worth) and kept my mom company for a while. My dad is doing a lot better, but he can only have 1 visitor dor the duration of the rehab stay so my sister has been going.
I'm looking forward to tomorrow's run. It may not be as cool, but it should still be nice. I may even sleep in and run at 7 instead of 5:45. 😊

Since I haven’t get well lately, last night was the first run without any walking that I’ve done in over a week. It was hot, but I decided to do at least 20 minutes tempo last night with a short build up and cool down.
I am almost at my weight goal, a weight that has eluded me for about 15 years! I have decided my next goal will be to feel somewhat comfortable in a two piece bathing suit, which I have never worn. I already do some strength training, but if anyone has any good exercises, particularly for abs, let me know. Not trying to get a six pack or anything, just interested in any suggestions to make the flabby bits slightly less flabby. 🤣4 -

Apart from that, all the big compound lifts hit your core - squats, deadlifts, shoulder press, bent over rows. Plus bigger muscles all over will make the flabby bits less flabby while at the same weight.

@kgirlhart Glad you had a great run and hopefully this morning is just as pleasant. Also glad your dad is doing well. Hope he doesn't have to stay in rehab too long.
@marisap2010 Yeah for being at your goal weight! I have no help with toning the abs, except for sit ups. I need to start doing some strength and core training to help mine too.

All of this. I think I got my roller on Amazon. I wasn't coordinated enough to use a swiss ball or dumbbell. I'd also throw in planks and the many variations.
Lift heavy and clean up diet. They aren't kidding when they say abs are made in the kitchen.3 -
I've come to the conclusion that i cannot run and do aerial yoga on the same day. at this point, my body is midflare and i cannot handle both. which is irritating because i like to do a couple miles after class.

Sunny and low 50s F this morning. My mind kept trying to tell my body to slow down, but my body told my mind to shut up and let me run. Was not surprised my mind lost.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2020 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs
Run at least 4 5k races
Get a 5k PR
Average at least 138k per month, to meet my Run the Year pledge of 1,020 miles
Stretch goal: If I can average 169k per month, I can run 2020k in 2020

People. I am almost done with The Brave Athlete and I cannot recommend it enough. I feel so called out on my *kitten*. 🤣
I think I'll do an episode of my podcast and talk about it more in depth.
But if you were to purchase the book I would say get a physical copy. There's a lot of illustrations and exercises that make having a physical book helpful. I don't write in my books so I did the exercises in a notebook which is helpful if I want to go back and redo some exercises. Some of them are ones you want to do again.

@RunsOnEspresso I am laughing at all the ab toning talk.
Not that I don’t have them. But as I was reading “abs are made in the kitchen,” I was both agreeing with you and opening some weird cheap trash coffee cake.
I’ve really let my intake go this week.
The rest of the day will be pretty clean eating - this will be the highest caloric intake of the day.
Did some PT exercises and strength yesterday in my office since the servers are down. Will do that again this morning. Three days til Aravaipa’s “sinister” challenge. Grateful for the ability to keep going and training!
Was thinking this morning about running in the cold again. Which temperature I prefer. Fall, probably. I don’t miss running in ice and snow....

@camaramandy648 This is why I don't have abs 🤣
@skippysgirlmom No, but we haven't checked the mail in a few days. I'd be surprised since I haven't received any shipping notice. I emailed last week that the team was complete but didn't get a reply. Not sure if that's normal, never done a group like this before 🤷🏼♀️1 -
@hamsterwheel6 so sorry.
Hugs, congratulations and pats on backs as needed. I'm way behind on this thread again. Can't keep up with life atm.
News: I randomly decided during my run on Monday that I wanted to sell my dreadmill and get a spinning bike with the money. Posted an ad and two days later a guy had come from 2.5 hours away and taken it. Bike should (hopefully) arrive tomorrow and mini-me is showing an interest in using it. Probably won't last once she discovers it's hard work, mind! In the meantime I'm trying not to hyperventilate every time I look at the gaping hole in the corner of the lounge which had hosted the dreadmill for 4 years. Please lord don't let them lock us up again before my bike comes.
Still running, but slightly reduced mileage because August. Daily yoga. Other stuff with mini-me, trying to pull her out of her hole.7 -

Headed out the door around 6:10 this morning. The sunrise was beautiful. Lots of orange, pinks, blues and purples in the sky. Temp was around 63F and there was a nice breeze at times. The first mile was mostly in the dark. I heard some deer “blowing” at me. I must have disturbed their morning path as I heard them on both sides of the road where I was running.
@eleanorhawkins - You've betrayed Hal by trading in the treadmill for the bike! What will he say! LOL!2 -
@eleanorhawkins I love having a bike. It's a nice compliment to running.1

@PastorVincent was just talking with Nick and Sophie last night about the community aspect and the adrenaline and feeding off of others’ adrenaline that comes with an in person race.
Finishing 33 miles alone is freaking hard. Especially since nobody is there to say “You’re doing great!” Nobody is there, so who cares if you finish or don’t? - that’s an easy mindset to slip into and I am so looking forward to having actual people around to encourage and be encouraged by!
I am sorry about your race.2
