September 2020 Monthly Running Challenge

WARNING: Following this thread may be addictive; it gets very talkative...miss a day and you can be 50 posts behind. This is the most popular challenge on MFP. If you found us in the middle (or end) of the month, you're still very welcome to join in - no requirements or special invite needed. Once you post, that's it you're in. And yes, we do this every month.
You set your own pace and distance for the month. We will all be doing it together. This is your virtual running group to help keep you accountable, to enjoy a virtual post-run coffee with your fellow runners, and to make new friends and learn a few things.

We have members ranging from total beginners all the way to Boston Qualifiers and beyond. We are a friendly and encouraging bunch. You never need to be ashamed of your miles. If you are making the effort, you will find only support here.
Here are the details from last month that apply again:
Anybody want to join in for a running challenge? Set a goal here and update us every day. OPTIONAL: You can post your progress by creating a ticker at http://www.tickerfactory.com (if creating one seems difficult, or you're like me and can't be bothered, then just type in your daily miles in this thread).
You can run, walk, or do treadmill - just be consistent. Don't let the high (or low) goals of others intimidate you. Some do 25 miles, others do 50, some go higher than that, some do lower; it's entirely your goal and therefore completely up to you. We help motivate each other, so what do you say? If you're new to running, set a low goal. If you're from a part of the world where miles aren't your thing, log your distances in KMs. And if you'd rather log your progress by time rather than distance, then you're entirely free to do that as well.
Feel free to set your goal now but wait until September 1, 2020 to start logging your runs!

After you run, come into this thread and post what you did (don't forget to hit the star in the upper right corner to bookmark this thread). Simply keep a running tally of what you've done this month, and interact with the others. Many folks come in here and chit-chat it up, even on their rest days or while recouping from injury. This is a very social group and we talk about many things (sometimes even about running ). It's a very friendly bunch here so don't be afraid to say hi (even if this is your first time), talk about a recent or up-coming race, ask questions, provide answers, or just lurk-n-learn. Participation is what makes this group successful.
Not quite sure how to log your runs? Follow the examples of many other challenge members. Even take a peek at last month's thread (posted above).

Info on tickers since I know there will be questions. Sign up for an account at http://www.tickerfactory.com and create your ticker. Then you need to update it after you finish a run and post it here. Here is what you will need to do.
After setting up your ticker, you will need to make note of the weblink they give you so you can return. An example would be:
http://www.tickerfactory.com/exercise/w6K1EiX/ <<<< the last part will be a part of the image link (explained below) that will be supplied to you after you initially create your link.
When you return to TickerFactory with the weblink, go to your settings page. Make sure you type your PIN in that you set when you created your ticker account. Then, where it says "Your current cumulative value", there is an add button. Simply add the distance that you just did, and the cumulative value automatically changes. Then hit next.
After adding your new miles (or KMs) to your ticker, you need to post it here.
After you hit next, it will give you a bunch of codes suggesting how to display your ticker.
Use the one at the bottom where it says Direct Image URL:
It will look something like:
http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png
To display that correctly in your post, make sure you place the image (img) tags around that link. So it will look something like the following (but removing the spaces in the img tags):
[ img ] http://tickers.TickerFactory.com/ezt/t/w6K1EiX/exercise.png [ /img ]
^^^^^^^ Don't forget to remove the spaces between the brackets ^^^^^^^^^^
Some key things to pay attention to when posting your ticker:
Use the link that ends in .png
Remember the [ img] and [ /img] tags go in between the link
Remove the spaces in the img tags before posting
YES, there is a / in the second /img tag
By the way, everyone here should consider themselves a runner no matter how fast or slow. There's no judgment, we all started somewhere. And no comparisons, except with your former self. Don't compare your Chapter 1 to somebody elses Chapter 20.

I remember @PastorVincent always joking the next months thread would start earlier and earlier lol. This time he would have been ok with it. Thanks @shanaber for setting it up!
100 miles again.
I did meet August goal of 100 despite also spinning (106.03 to be exact). So maybe I can keep it up! Still have tomorrow’s run to count.4 -

I thought of this exactly - we waited long enough for him to be comfortable with the new thread starting this time.
I'm going to continue the trend here and say I'll try for the 100 mile club. It's going to be a real challenge though with the work deadlines I have and possibly a hiking trip (though I really don't have time for that either, so we'll see).
My real goal - don't quit. Applied to several things, including running.6 -

Goal is to heal and do my first run at the end of the month.11 -

Goal for September is to just keep going. Plan calls for 125km and change, so I'll state that as my number.7 -
No mileage commitment this month, I am supporting the rest of my household on a keto diet and during my first week anything above a 5k is a no-go. I will commit to running 3 days a week minimum and see how it goes.7

No mileage goal this month. My goals are to run my Mental Health 10k and my Beat the Blerch Half without injury. I would love to PR on both, but this humidity is not helping.8

I haven't had time to look ahead to September yet. I'll try to do that tonight or tomorrow and set my goal.3 -
I'm in for 60 miles. Hopefully the weather will cut me some slack. It was a rough August.
I'm also trying out an adult bouldering league this month that I might join. Doing both activities is actually pretty taxing on me physically so this past month I've been working to figure out how to fit both into my life without exhausting myself.7 -
Thanks @shanaber I'm in for 115 again. I have a HM in October, in person but I'm thinking of deferring. The way they are starting it I'd have to wait about 2 hours from the time they close the town down to the time I would start. If you are not in the town 45 minutes before start you can't get in to park or run.

I'm in for 100 miles for September. My main goal though, is to complete the THREE half marathon races I'm signed up for, feeling strong at the end8

If I do the bare minimum for my virtual race, I need 90 miles. I would love to join the "cool kids" and be in the 100 mile club. But I also know that we are going on an Anniversary trip this month and I might not have the opportunity to run while we're away. I've been "banking miles" beforehand to try and not fall too far behind. So...
My goal for September is 90 - 100 miles. Whew!
p.s. 32 years of marriage with the love of my life. I am one blessed woman!10 -

Since I did close to 90 miles last month, I should probably go for 100 miles this month. The weather could HOPEFULLY be better than August, and almost 90 didn't feel too overwhelming.7 -

Only just found this group although I’ve been doing a virtual running challenge each month during the lockdown. I’m aiming for 60km for September. I managed just over 60km during August but I’ve more family commitments this month so I think 60km is a fair challenge for me. Looking forward to following everyone’s progress.9

So September is off to a disheartening start. I’m building up to a half on the 20th, aiming for a killer new PB, and my coach has been pushing me hard in the last couple of weeks.
Well, today I hit the wall. I had 60 minutes aerobic scheduled. This time last week, that was a comfortable 5:37 pace and my heart rate averaging 1:41. Today, I only lasted 7.5km - my pace was 6:27 and my heart averaged 161bpm!
It was my worst run in years and years. Everything hurt. Legs simply wouldn’t go. Felt awful the whole way so cut things short. I suspect I’ve found my maximum.
Will be interesting to see what my coach says.13 -

I’m still reluctant to set a mileage goal since my knee still hurts when I do too much, so my goal is to work my way back to doing a 10k run without pain. Also, intend to do 26.2 during Boston Marathon week for @PastorVincent.
So, I’ve never set up a challenge on challenge hound but it looks fairly simple - my thought was that a challenge for @PastorVincent could be set up as a team relay, with no set number of people per team, 26.2 miles to be run at any time during that week, runs, hikes, walks and treadmill counting towards the total. You wouldn’t have to use challengehound to participate but anyone who wanted could jump in either as a solo or join a team, so people doing less mileage could participate. And I really liked the idea of encouraging everyone to do an act of kindness in memory of @PastorVincent as well. Does anyone have any thoughts on this? If it sounds good I will see about setting it up.6 -

We welcomed our little future runner into the world on August 29th ♡ 9 lbs, 4 oz. I was NOT expecting him to be that big.
Labored for 29 hours total and pushed for the last 4 of those.

I am HOPING to be back to running by the end of September, but we will see. I have to get back to walking first. I'm not going to set a number goal, but rather just to work towards those two things and to give myself grace with them.
