@rheddmobile Thanks for sharing the map. That's pretty cool. I haven't actually thought about acts of kindness yet. Humm. Maybe just look for opportunities when they arise.

September Goal: 100 Miles
9/1: 6.22 miles
9/2: 5.05 miles
9/3: 6.06 miles
9/6: 10.11 miles
27.44/100 miles completed for September
972.67/1000 miles for Run the Year Team Pavement Pounders
I had pretty nice run this morning. I should have gotten up earlier, but it is so much harder to get up early on Sunday than it is on the weekdays. I finally got out the door around 7:30. It was 68°F at the start which was nice but it warmed up to about 77°F by the time I got home. It was a pretty morning though and I ran 10 miles and I had my new shoes so I am hoping that will help my achy feet. I didn't see much wildlife today other than a few squirrels. I didn't see a lot of birds either, but I did see a red tail hawk and a couple of monarch butterflies. Dove season has started and I heard lots of gunshots in the distance. I usually see a lot of dove, but I think all the birds were keeping a low profile today. One odd thing that I saw was horse shoe prints going down a residential street. I run a couple of roads where I wouldn't think that it was odd to see horse prints, but I wouldn't have expected to see them where I saw them.
Tomorrow is supposed to be a rest day, but there is rain in the forecast later in the week so I may run in the morning. I think I will just play it by ear, but since this is the week of the @PastorVincent vs. Boston challenge I want to make sure I get all my miles in.New Shoes!

Just a short run to save the run streak after another long hiking and driving day.
We did a sunrise hike of Whiteface and Esther Mountains today for peaks #16 & 17 of the Adirondack 46 High Peaks. Or at least we attempted to. We left home around 11 pm, started hiking at 3:15 am and summited Whiteface after a long hike in the dark at about 6:15 am. While the sun came up, we didn't get to see much of it because of fog. It was also really cold up there! We did catch some amazing glimpses as the clouds rolled in an out and the fog began to lift. Edited - hopefully these pics under spoilers work:We were freezing - it was about 40ish degrees up there and windy and wet from the fog. As we started heading down, the clouds were clearing and it was becoming a beautiful day. We headed over to Mt. Esther, which took us another 2.5 hours or so. We had a good view of Whiteface where we had just been from that summit. We headed back down and the hike out was tough and seemed eternal as always. But we finished by about 12:30 pm, which was about 9 hours of total time, including our stopping time to take in the views, eat, etc. We stopped for food and headed back home. This was the earliest finish time of any of the hikes all summer which was great (except for the part where we got no sleep an started at 3:15 am). Home about 5:30 and then I had to gather up the energy for my run-streak saving run. It was not so bad, compared to some of the other post-hike runs I've endured.

@TheMrWobbly @katharmonic @RunsOnEspresso I don’t have any pending friend requests, it looks like they may not be going through for some reason. I sent one to each of you.
If you don’t see one from me we are going to have to figure out another way of getting in touch. If you are already friends with someone in the challenge I can send them your link and they can pass it to you, or in the last resort we can try posting links on the MFP challenge group for an added layer of privacy and then deleting them.0 -

Great pics, @katharmonic! Too bad it was so foggy. We had some great views from Whiteface last time we visited.
Thanks everyone for the picture compliments and well wishes for my dad. He is in ICU awaiting surgery, but he sounded a lot better when i talked to him yesterday than the day before.

@rheddmobile I got your request. How very strange that you didn't get those 3 requests.
Thank you for setting this all up!1 -

Hey, it wouldn’t be like being a real race director if there were no technical issues!
@eleanorhawkins started us off this morning, first on the leaderboard, and I discovered another issue: right now, according to our map we are all running Boston BACKWARDS! I have contacted the support for the map and hopefully it will be fixed soon. I’m picturing @PastorVincent looking down on us and having a good laugh.11 -

Apart from the fact that I live in the future, I'm by far the slowest in this group so I need a head start.
Maybe we should leave it backwards, he would probably have liked that, makes it special...

I met a couple of friends at 6:00 am so that we could get our run done early. The weather was a nice 57F. I was supposed to help my dad with a project but he’s not feeling well so now I’m trying to regroup and trying to be productive so I don’t feel like I’ve “wasted” my day!
@marisap2010 – Hope you’re dad is doing better and surgery is a success. Congrats on getting your 10k done!
@katharmonic – Yes, I’m planning on running the virtual MCM on Sunday, October 25. It will be here soon! Those pictures with the fog raising up over the mountains are beautiful! I don’t know how you stayed awake so long though!
@TheMrWobbly – I hope that your body adapts soon and learns where to pull the energy from.
@quilteryoyo – Good luck with your 10-miler today! The weather is great out there!
@Tramboman – Love your time goals for the VM for Pastor Vincent. Sounds like you are all ready to meet it and possibly beat it!
@kgirlhart – Glad you went ahead an ordered new shoes. They are pretty! Hopefully next time you’re up for a new pair you can make it to a store for a fitting.

I got some great sleep last night and managed to get up early to go to the track for a sprint workout. We did our usual 1 mile warmup and then a total of 15 sprints with knee tuck jumps, handclap pushups, and skaters in between.
I then got tricked into going to the gym and doing a workout of box jumps, bosu ball squats ad pushing/pulling the sled. This was my first time actually inside the gym for a workout. It was not crowded at all, everyone was wearing masks, and everyone was cleaning things off, so it seemed good. Working out with a mask on was not great but it was survivable for strength training4 -

I was supposed to run this morning, but settled for a walk instead. My stomach has been kind of upset for a couple of days. It's wierd because I don't actually feel ill. No vomiting, GI issues, still hungry, etc. Just kind of tender and sour (for lack of a better word). I felt better this morning than yesterday, but just not quite normal yet. It just didn't seem like a very good idea to run, what with all the jostling. But I am in such a habit with running that I wanted to get out of the house. My body was craving some movement. It's a little cooler and I had a nice walk. Hopefully tomorrow I'll be back to normal and can get back on schedule.6 -
@katharmonic great job on your hike, and really awesome pictures!
Many of you are posting some great pictures, taking up where @PastorVincent left off and I'm sure making him proud.
Way to get the challenge started @eleanorhawkins!
1st leg of the Pastor Vincent vs Boston Marathon Challenge. Set out to do 10 miles today, but the heat and humidity got to me. It was 75°F with 87% humidity, so I was only able to finish 9 miles. Hopefully this will be the warmest day of the week and I can get some better quality running in by mid/end of the week.

I tried to take the dog out this morning. It's her 3rd birthday today. I'm going to make her some cookies later. Anyway, we picked a dog that was old enough to run with me because no one messes with a black pitty LOL. But if her dad is home she will only go about .1 or .2 then refuses to move. She's like 50 pounds of muscle so if she refuses to move I can't force it. As soon as I said do you want to go home, she turned and took off. She got .46 total today
4.25 today for a monthly total of 6 miles.9 -
So, I’m finally on the board for September.
This weekend, we were setting heat records. Like over 100 degrees on Saturday, and right along with red flag warnings. However, in true Wyoming fashion, we are going to be record cold temperatures today through Tuesday. Highest temperature in the next 3 days is predicted to be 46f/8c and as low as 18f/-8c. And after a summer of nearly no precipitation, we may get snow today and tomorrow. Like, this is even wild for Wyoming.
I’m totally happy for the cooler weather. But even I needed more than a 24 hour adjustment period. I tried to wait until the warmest part of today - and I waited too long, so the front definitely was arriving. And so the temp dropped during my run, and the wind came up like crazy.
All that to say- I didn’t have a frigging clue how to dress- why do I need to relearn this every season? But I settled on a base layer on top, full length leggings, T-shirt over the base layer, ball cap and ear band. It nearly worked, I forgot that I’m still doing a lot of walking, so probably should have put another butt layer on. And definitely should have had gloves. I also need to remember that humidity and cold means I need to use my inhaler, even on baby runs, so my last intervals didn’t quite go according to plan.
So- 1.75/why am I starting over again??
Ps - I’m not currently signed up for our challenge, but if someone is still looking for a teammate that is good for 6-10 of the miles, let me know!8 -
Way to get the challenge started @eleanorhawkins !
Great workouts @katharmonic !
Hope you are feeling better @martaindale !
Hope you get some cooler weather later in the week @Scott6255 .
I heard about the crazy weather out West @hanlonsk ! Your body does need more than 24 hours to acclimate to a 50°F temperature change!
2 -
@marisap2010 - congratulations on the 10k! Love the picture and medal too. I hope your dad is doing better and that surgery went well.
@TheMrWobbly - @T1DCarnivoreRunner is fully keto and might have some advice on how to adapt, etc..
@katharmonic - I continue to be amazed by your hikes! I can't imagine hiking in the middle of the night in the dark but the rewards of watching the sun come up and the clouds clear are definitely worth it. Great pictures again!
@martaindale - hope you feel better soon!
@RunsOnEspresso - Shadow is so funny! What a personality. I have to say we have a neighbor grey and white pitty named Dharma who is a couch potato. They have to seriously force her to go out even for a short walk and if she sees anyone she knows she stops and waits to be petted and then thinks her job is done and she can go home, even if she hasn't gone further than her own driveway 😂
@hanlonsk - I saw on the news about snow and thought is was primarily going to hit in CO. Wish you could send some of it this way yo cool us off and put out all the fires! I wonder if later this week you will get more heat again?
I haven't run since last Friday and I am getting seriously twitchy! I planned to run this morning and got up early to get out before it got ungodly hot again but walked outside into smokey awfulness that made me cough and my eyes water. I am hoping that maybe I can get a run in tomorrow and I will do some kind go cardio HIIT class today. We have agility class tonight even though it is a holiday so that will be interesting if it is super hot and smokey then too. It is supposed to be cooling off just a little tomorrow and back to normal temps by the end of the week. I just hope they can get the fires under control. I saw the big one bringing smoke into us was started by one of those dumb gender reveal parties... I can't believe anyone would set off any kind of pyrotechnics in this weather and as dry as it is. Now entire communities are evacuated and at risk!6 -
Wow @shanaber . People can be so stupid. Hope they get the fires under control soon.
@rheddmobile Is there a way to view the map with everyone's progress? All I could find was for myself, or others individually.0 -
It seems pittys and staffys are natural lazy. She has zoomies and sleeps better when we exercise her but somedays it's a chore. She ALWAYS wants to go when I'm getting dressed but it's like pulling teeth sometimes when we are actually out.
@shanaber ugh, I heard the news this morning about the gender reveal. That happened here last year or the year before and if I remember correctly the husband/dad was a sheriff deputy and he shot at the thing. These gender reveals are out of control.3 -

If you go to the main MFP challenge for PastorVincent page, there is a small 'results' link. That shows the map of everyone.
Don't know if this link will work, but you can try it Results2 -
I tried to get out early for my run this morning. I made it out the door at about 7:30, so a little better. The weather was fantastic: 61°F (or 58°F, depending on whether you believe Garmin or my thermometer) and 32% humidity.
I started out with laps on my driveway, but had decided it was cool enough that once Tippy gave up, I would try running out my country road and see how that felt. So, after about 2.5 miles, I got some water to stash at the end of my driveway and headed down the hill. Oh my gosh you all! I couldn't believe how much easier it was running on the road than doing laps on my hilly driveway. My route is still hilly, but not as much. And, all of you that said running hills would make me stronger - You were ABSOLUTELY correct. I was so surprised that my easy pace was less than 12 min/mile! I kept telling myself that I didn't have to go that fast. That I could slow down. But I kept it up without trying.
I ventured past the sheep and sheep dogs. I saw the big guard dog, but it ignored me. The little one that I was afraid of was no where in sight, so I'm hoping he got rid of it. I was able to go out the road about 2 miles and back and some shorter out and backs. I did stop for water 3 times, I think. My average pace was 11:52 with and AVG HR of 158. Fastest mile was mile 7 at 11:05 minutes. That's the mile where I began feeling the run in my legs. Perhaps it was the pace and not the mileage. LOL
Anyway, it was a really good run. I was so surprised to finish in under 2 hours - 1:58:51. Last time I did 10 miles it took me 2:12:01. It was almost the same route, but much hotter and I didn't do any driveway laps (in June). I also got a PR for a 10K at 1:11:51 today. And, all of this at an easy pace. I'm really, really happy!
Only wildlife I saw was 4 wild turkeys. I didn't get a picture because they were hidden in the hay field.
Also 5/20 walking.12 -
Thanks @Scott6255 . It worked! I wanted to see myself ahead, because I'm sure this will be the last time. LOL Is that vain? Sorry if it is!7

Not at all! You go girl!1 -
@quilteryoyo - congratulations on a great run!1
-
Nice running everyone!
@katharmonic wow, fab pics. And always in awe of what you do.
@shanaber sorry about the fire and smoke. And totally can not believe some people.
@quilteryoyo its great when everything just feels right! Good run!
Went out to run for the @PastorVincent challenge. Our team name is wunjowomen because his love of his wunjo running vest.
Got out around 9. Kind of late but the temp was 66! And lower humidity. So much nicer. I got out to good pace and decided to see how I would do on 5K time..29:49. Was happy with that. Decided to try it again. 30:45 for the next 5K. Not bad considering I did walk up a couple hills. Was about 2 miles back to my car, so decided to run/walk back. About half way through when I took off on a run segment, I pulled my hamstring. Ugh. Felt it too. Immediately stopped and walked the rest. Not what I was expecting or hoping for. I’ve currently iced it, and wrapped it. Will foam roll as well. Really hoping it’s not major, as I think I may have my first live race Oct 3.
Anyway total 8.2 to start the challenge!
Good luck everyone!8 -
@TheMrWobbly - @T1DCarnivoreRunner is fully keto and might have some advice on how to adapt, etc..
Sorry, I haven't been keeping up with this thread at all (like most months).
On the topic of keto adaptation... it's going to take a months and the 4-6 week time-frame is going to suck the most. Electrolyte supplementation will be key.
For athletes considering a ketogenic diet, the best resource I can recommend is The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Performance by Dr's Volek and Phinney. They've researched keto for decades and have lots of published research, plus some books. This particular book is specifically focused on keto diets for endurance athletes.5 -
Hi all. Late check in but I’m off the mark for Pastor Vincent! I dragged myself out of bed in the dark and went out for 10K this morning. Hard, but I got the most incredible reward with a glorious sunrise. It was breathtaking - the photos here don’t do it justice. I like to think Pastor Vincent was up there somewhere helping to put on a show for my lonely run!
Anyway, 6.3miles this morning and then I did Couch to 5k with my kiddies after work for about 0.7m so a total of 7 miles for today. Over a quarter of the way through!!
Great running @quilteryoyo! Everyone else doing brilliantly too. This is such a special tribute. Thanks again @rheddmobile x
