@polskagirl01 - my daughter taught me to get rid of fruit flies using a small dish (or dishes) of apple cider vinegar. You don't need much but need a surface that they can get into it. Essentially they are attracted to it, fly in and drown. Now I want banana bread and I have ripe bananas but I don't dare turn on the oven (air conditioner broken and it is hot here). Maybe I could bake it on the BBQ...
I went for a quick run in the woods today - and since I'm nervous about the HM on Saturday, basically blasted most of the hills in an attempt to gain confidence. It's rare that I am confident before a race, so it will probably be fine. I'm glad I got a spot in this race. Lots of people want to run it but can't.11 -
Thank you everyone for all the well-wishes! The swelling was down a lot this morning, which is good because it was bad yesterday (see foot image below!) Still hurts, but not as bad, so I think I'm slowly but surely on the mend. I probably will just take the full week off and shoot for my next run to be Monday (as long as it is feeling healed by then)

@eleanorhawkins is virtually in Boston now, on Beacon street, approaching Coolidge corner!
Meanwhile, @Scott6255 just passed the “Entering Newton” sign and is starting up the first of Newton’s famous hills, ending with the legendary Heartbreak hill.
And the wunjowomen and @Faebert have passed the halfway point and are headed through Wellesley square!8 -

Sunny, mid 60s F and humid again this morning. The few niggles I had picked up from yesterday went away quickly today. Tried to run a more steady, controlled pace, because I was pretty sure I couldn't run like yesterday.
Tomorrow will be cooler and less humid, so it will be the 7.2k day.

@kristinajeang Gosh, you really rolled it! Ouch! Hope you continue to improve and feel better soon.1

Wow, everyone is doing so great on their Boston virtual marathon. When you are running for a great cause, it really helps lessen the pain. @rheddmobile so glad you set this challenge up. It is a great tribute to @PastorVincent and it really fun to see everyone's progress on the map.
Glad your ankle seems to be getting better @kristinajeang! Sounds like you are being smart and giving it the proper time to heal.
@shanaber so sorry about the AC, the fires, and the heat! You are going through the perfect storm Things will start to get better soon.
@hamsterwheel6 Glad your hamstring feels better.
Did the 2nd leg of Boston virtual marathon this morning. This one was really tough - 75F and 94% humidity. The 50 degree mornings this week never materialized, and they have vanished from the forecast. I guess we will have to wait until October.

It felt like FALL this morning. It was about 70 when I went out. But as soon as I stepped outside it smelled like a fireplace. Ugh. I ran my entire 4 miles, lungs burning, and coughed a few times. As soon as I stopped my lungs revolted and I started trying to hack out all the smokey air.
4/10.47 -
Went to bed late after a late supper and watching a movie with the hubby. Had to make myself get out of bed but when I got to the track, a weird notion hit me. I ran 10k today! Must've been the spaghetti I had for supper.
Tomorrow is our 32nd wedding anniversary! I'm not sure if I'll be running tomorrow or not. We have a dinner date planned at our favorite German place. Yum!

Well... this challenge is proving that I was wrong. I always said 'when' I decide to do a marathon I'll need to look for one with a 7 hour cutoff time. Turns out I should be able to do one in 5 hours, as long as I cycle half of it and am allowed to take frequent 22 hour breaks with the clock stopped!
My legs actually felt good this morning. So good that rather than the 4 miles at HM pace I ended up running 3 at something in between 5k and 10k pace, then the last mile (once my legs were complaining about being tired) I tried to do slow as a cool down ended up being round about what Hal tells me my slow HM pace should be. The plan calls for a 5k race on Saturday plus warm up and cool down, maybe I'll pretend today was the race and try again to do HM pace then. Or maybe I'll stop thinking about it and just run, after all it's not as if there's any purpose to this training anyway.

Happy Anniversary @WandaVaughn !
@kristinajeang Your poor ankle! Glad you are being smart and resting it. Hopefully you'll be back at it next week.
Love the videos @rheddmobile!
@scott6255 We got the 50's here, but it is pouring rain. When I let forced my dogs to go out this morning we already had 2.5 inches of rain. And it hasn't stopped raining yet. So I took today as a rest day. It was actually still in the 60's at 6:00 this morning which is when I usually run and has since dropped to 54°. We never got the thunderstorms, but I'm glad I ran Monday instead of today. I was looking forward to the cooler temps, but running in the dark in the pouring rain doesn't sound appealing to me. If it is still like this tomorrow (which the forecast says it will be) then I may move tomorrow's run to Friday. I still have until Sunday to finish the Boston Challenge and I only need 13.84 miles to get to 26.2. I usually only run about 10 on Sunday's, but I could run 14 if I need to. I feel like I will be able to get a run in on Friday or Saturday though.5 -
Morning!
Got my chaski swag yesterday, except the medal, which I ordered the day before the shirt, so I expect it to arrive soon.
i will reply to posts when I'm not in the middle of month-end for August at work.
BUT! This is important:
Vincent's wife would like to know where she and her son can go to see our random acts of kindness in memory and in honor of Vincent. Do you want me to invite her to the MFP FB or do you want me to track them in some way for her? Thoughts?
Thanks!3 -
So, yeah. No go on that hamstring. I had planned to treadmill as the rain and humidity are back and well if my hamstring didn't cooperate I could spin instead. Started walking, felt ok - tight bit not painful. Started a light run and nope, So I walked 5K as I wanted to get some miles in for the challenge. Then hopped on the bike and then stretched. So probably no running for a few days. Glad I have the bike though!.
@rheddmobile Those videos are cool!
@skippygirlsmom I just looked at the results..we are exactly at the same place! HA! pretty cool.
@kristinajeang oouch. I'm with you on the injury sidelines!5 -

Another beautiful morning for a run outside. I started at 6:00 am so it was still dark for the first couple of miles. I was going to try my new Amphipod light that I bought but I didn’t charge it in time. Stay tuned for a review!
I need to plan an act of kindness for @PastorVincent. It’s harder to contemplate since I’m working from home this week. Has anyone else performed their act yet or made plans? I figure when I make it to town on Saturday, I can always pay for the person behind me in a fast-food drive-thru if I don't come up with anything else. Please share your ideas and plans!
@polskagirl01 – you’re job sounds heavenly (pun intended)!
@shanaber – every time I hear about the Santa Ana winds I think about that movie The Holiday with Kate Winslet, Cameron Diaz and Jude Law. I love that movie! Sorry about your AC – sounds like it had quiet a workout the last few days. I hope the fires out there are under control soon. Very scary stuff.
@hanlonsk – Your weather is unbelievable for September! Good job toughing it out on the treadmill!
@kristinajeang – Ouch! Glad you are taking the time to heal. Hopefully by Monday things will be good.
Happy Anniversary @WandaVaughn!

@Camaramand It feels like bragging to put out my act of kindness, but for @PastorVincent -- I provided supper for a local couple who'd lost power at their house last night. Does that count?8
-
@hamsterwheel6 I love that.
@WandaVaughn yes! Of course!
Where are we all from? I know we've got London, New Zealand, Kentucky - where else? All over the world, I know - but I think it will warm Kristi's heart to know the impact that @PastorVincent had, quite literally, all over the world.1 -

@WandaVaughn happy anniversary and very nice act of kindness
@Hamsterwheel6 I'm waving to you - sorry about the hamstring

I live in Somerville, Alabama!1
-
@WandaVaughn I just sent your challenge link off to you! Very nice act of kindness!
I haven’t done anything big but have been trying to do small things - brought the neighbor’s trash in from the curb when I got mine, and when I noticed the grocery had sent me two boxes of salad instead of one I took the other one over to a neighbor. Also going to go over to my mom’s friend’s house and teach her how to use Zoom since phone support is just confusing her.
@Camaramandy648 I was thinking we ought to put together something for Kristi, I’m glad you brought it up. I was wondering if I could bug my husband to make an ebook like he’s been making for my races, and we could get people to submit entries for it. The program he uses will actually make a proper ebook that can be read on a kindle, etc.

I’m in Memphis, Tennessee, and I believe @eleanorhawkins is in Spain!2 -
@WandaVaughn Happy anniversary, and yes, providing dinner for a couple without power is a supreme act of kindness!
This week I have cooked, cleaned, done laundry, made the bed, mowed the yard, took out the trash, and went to Verizon and upgraded our 4 year old phones. All for my wife who is homebound caring for her aunt. I know that doesn't count as acts of kindness (just doing my job), but haven't thought of anything else yet.
I live in Texas, just north of Dallas.3 -

That's a brilliant idea!!!3 -
I'm in northeast Ohio, and volunteered to lead pre-church prayers last Saturday.6
-
I know a can't do the Boston Virtual Marathon for PastorVincent in one week but would like to something. So instead I'm going to try and do the 26.2 miles over the rest of the month.
09/09 2.35 miles
2.35 done of 26.2 - for Pastor Vincent Memorial Challenge13 -
I love that idea @rheddmobile ! I haven't done my random act of kindness yet. I considered paying for the car behind me last night when I picked up take out, but no one pulled in behind me.5
-
Oh. And I'm in Texas about 2 hours west of Dallas.

Sept total: 18.2/60 miles
9/2: 3.5 miles
9/3: 3.5 miles
9/5: 4.7 miles
9/8: 3.2 miles
9/9: 3.3 miles
By Monday night my stomach was feeling pretty normal. I was able to make up the run I missed on Monday after work Tuesday night then got out again this morning. I don't usually have such a short turnaround between runs and my legs were definitely a little tired this morning. But this week is a cutback week on my plan, so at least none of the runs are particularly long.
Good job everyone on your virtual runs!
@kristinajeang That ankle looks painful! Hopefully it heals up quickly.
@skippygirlsmom Those pictures are very pretty. Looks like a peaceful place to run.
@Scott6255 You know that first cold front is always a tease!!
@WandaVaughn Happy Anniversary! 32 years is quite an accomplishment.5 -
Wow this thread moves fast! Had my first cool weather run yesterday -- it was 90 on Monday, 30 on Tuesday and today we have 5 inches of snow (Colorado). I'm still hoping we get an actual fall, though.
9/1 3.57
9/2 3.04
9/3 2.96
9/8 3.56
13.13/506 -
Not a run day for me today though I need to keep the odometer ticking along so I did a longer route to the shops and ran 1.35 miles for the challenge.
@kristinajeang wowzer, hope you heal quickly
Happy 32nd Anniversary @WandaVaughn and apparently the ‘modern’ gift for 32 years is associated with transportation – who came up with that?
I’m in with that way to do the marathon @eleanorhawkins
