I was wondering if I could bug my husband to make an ebook like he’s been making for my races, and we could get people to submit entries for it. The program he uses will actually make a proper ebook that can be read on a kindle, etc.2

@rheddmobile I’ve sent a PM to u to join a team maybe. I didn’t understand how it was working until I read back. It’s ok if I’m too late or teams r full2
-
Okay first of all, I have so many people in Texas, I had no idea! From the RTY group and here! We seriously need to make a thing and do a group run over a weekend or something. I swear, I'm not a murderer and I am a damn good cook.
@rheddmobile that would be freaking amazing! I'm trying to figure out the best way to transfer all this info over to Kristi - one by one, so far - which might be overwhelming for her.
@Mari33a you can be on my team if you want, if @rheddmobile knows how to set it up, I have no clue. And @rheddmobile I am in TN every single year and go right through Memphis! Seriously. !!!
And @Tramboman my sister is in Youngstown, OH!
Lord. Small world.
Okay, I will get all these acts over to Kristi. She'll love knowing.4 -
@Camaramandy648 Thankyou!0
-
@Mari33a You should have a friend request from me - MFP doesn’t deliver messages unless the people are friends first. Accept it and I will get your link to you! @Camaramandy648 What would you guys like your team name to be?0

I’ve joined now. Thanks guys!3 -
@WandaVaughn - Happy Anniversary!!
@kristinajeang - Wow that ankle looks really angry! Glad it is getting better!
Set out to do a tempo run today then decided intervals would be better but ended up with more like a fartlek run. Not hot but foggy and very humid. Had a couple of dizzy moments when I had to stop but otherwise a fun run. From the pictures below you can see what a weird hazy color the sky is from the fires.As we were running this guy flew right up and landed next to us on the fence by the trail. I suspect he is pretty young from his coloring (can't see much in the picture because of the lighting)
and... taking flight. I edited this one to b/w to show more of the details
In Southern CA leaves don't change because of the temperatures falling (except in the mountains) but do with the shortening daylight so it does look like fall when the poplar leaves start turning and falling.
With my run today WunjoWomen have moved up into 2nd place behind @eleanorhawkins
I'm in Southern California close enough to the Mouse House to see their fireworks (when they are open - since March it has been strangely quiet).

Happy anniversary @WandaVaughn
I live near Hilo, Hawaii. My random act-I'll spoiler it 'cause it needs some explanation...I NEVER let people go in front of me in the grocery line. It annoys the %$^# out of me when someone can't walk the 150 feet down to one of the four self-checkouts or the 3 express lanes in our large Safeway, and instead will ask to "play through" or just assume because "I only have a couple of items" that they can take cuts.TLDR: I let someone take cuts.
So yesterday I had just moved up the "2 shopping cart separation" distance to the belt and as I turned to unload my wagon (which is what we call them in Hawaii), I saw a young woman behind me with a carry-basket with only a few items. (In her defense, she never asked to move ahead of me or otherwise let me know she was there) . I waved her ahead of me.
Philosophical question: Is it still a RAOK if you let someone do something that annoys you no end?
Upcoming and current races:

Ouch, @kristinajeang! Get some rest for that ankle!
Happy Anniversary, @WandaVaughn!
I like the idea of an e-book for Kristi. Let me know how I can help.
For my act of kindness, I have been putting notes of appreciation in mailboxes of people at work. One person came to me and said it really brightened her day. We work in a tough environment, and I don’t always think we do enough to support one another.
2 miles for me this evening. Nothing significant other than I started listening to David Tennant’s podcast. He’s my favorite Doctor.9 -
Ok, summer snowstorm damage seems to be cleaned up enough that my internet is almost working. So, below are the pictures I attempted to add yesterday.
Here is what summertime/ Labor Day in Wyoming looks like. One picture was from Monday night, the other two are Tuesday morning. I definitely will not be running under any trees until a good Wyoming wind takes care of all the broken but not down ginormous tree branches I can see going thru town.7 -
@HonuNui It definitely counts.
I have waved people ahead before but if they don't ask and are acting like an *kitten* I ignore them. We had a guy behind us that was practically throwing a temper tantrum over being behind us. We shop every 2 weeks so our cart is full. There was no one at self checkout and the employees will basically do it for you if you ask. I refused to acknowledge this dude. He eventually went to another line and gave us a smug look but we got out at the same time as him lol7 -
Wow, @hanlonsk, I can't believe that snowstorm already. I retract the complaint I was just going to make about humidity here tonight.
Date :::: Miles :::: Cumulative
09/01/20 :::: 3.1 :::: 3.1
09/02/20 :::: 3.5 :::: 6.6
09/03/20 :::: 1.9 :::: 8.4
09/04/20 :::: 3.1 :::: 11.6
09/05/20 :::: 7.5 :::: 19.1
09/06/20 :::: 1.5 :::: 20.6
09/07/20 :::: 2.2 :::: 22.8
09/08/20 :::: 3.1 :::: 26.0
09/09/20 :::: 4.0 :::: 30.0
Run group tonight - we did 4 minute intervals x 4 with 2 minutes recovery between first two and 90 seconds recovery after that. Then 4 sprints. With warmup and cooldown it was 4 miles in about 40 minutes. Lots of 4s tonight.
And it was really humid, but I won't mention that.

Eek so far behind on the thread, although keeping up with the Boston challenge as I’m over halfway home now after another sunrise 10K yesterday. I have read all the news though, and sending healing thoughts to the injured, congrats to those celebrating (good runs and anniversaries!) and sympathies for those battling heat and snow (!!!!)
This morning I’m doing strength training at home, then at work I will be taking my Year 1 class out for their first ever ‘Daily Mile’ session.
Our school doesn’t actually have enough outdoor space for every class to run every day, but it is a programme that started in Scotland that recognised the positive impact of physical activity on children’s learning. One school started doing a daily 15 minute run or jog session for all its kids and saw massive improvements in behaviour and results. It’s now a global programme. We will be able to do it 3x a week and it will be great but the first few sessions with the tiny ones (5 year olds) is always a little hectic. Some sprint then fall over, some get ‘tired’ after 10 seconds, they crash into each other... you can imagine!
Then planning couch to 5k next session with the kids after work. Will be back later to update mileage and random act of kindness. X9 -
@hanlonsk - that snow is amazing. I can't even conceive of the quick turnaround from heat to snow and I bet the plants are all in shock too!
@faebert - that is a great program. I di always think it was interesting that the top students (Jt HS and HS) were those that ran ceros country or track or swam. Your description of the tiny ones is adorable though! I am sure they either think it is great fun or torture!
@HonuNui - I definitely think it counts. Maybe even more so since it is an irritation point and you overcame that.
I have a few RAOK - we care for out elderly neighbor who is going through a rough time right now after having a plumbing issue in her house that resulted in a flood. She is currently staying in a hotel. Oh and she is 87 and wheelchair bound. I have been shopping for her, arranging for medical transport and going with her to appointments as well as helping my husband manage the restoration process on her home. We are hoping she can go home by the end of the month. The hardest part is keeping her from becoming too despondent.
I am also trying to help a friend who is very stressed out right now mostly as a result of the Covid shutdowns. She is a tiny person but has lost so much weight that she is down to 84 lbs. I have been checking in with her every other day just to make sure she is ok and to just talk about whatever is on her mind. She had gained 0.5lbs so that is a huge success!8 -

@polskagirl01 Looking forward to hearing about your HM on Saturday! You're going to do great!
Great videos and pictures again @rheddmobile ! Everyone is doing great on the VM for @PastorVincent !
@kristinajeang I hope your ankle continues to heal. You are being smart to give it time to heal.
Happy Anniversary @WandaVaughn ! Enjoy! Sounds like I may need to have spaghetti for dinner.
Working early shift at the daycare yesterday and today and went shopping after work yesterday, so I'm behind on the thread. I'll try to finish catching up tonight. Have a great day everyone. I need to think of an act of kindness to do today. Does NOT doing something rash when people are stupid count as an act of kindness? Asking for a friend.6 -
-
Set out for 10k - made 10k! Very, very, VERY slowly. Still made it so it looks like the challenge is ago @PastorVincent
To be fair this is probably good training for when I actually get to run the last few miles of a marathon as I am running with pretty much no energy to call on.9 -
@eleanorhawkins is across the finish line!Just like in the real race, the people with wheels make it to the finish first!

Foggy, mid 60s F and humid today. Played with the idea of pushing the extra .2k to tomorrow, as the temperature and humidity are both supposed to be down, but decided to see how today's run went before making the decision Changed my route slightly to avoid a steepish hill at the beginning of kilometer 4, and that seemed to help my pace, especially at the end. Ended up with the best pace of the marathon so far. A little more than halfway done and on track to meet my stretch goal time, but I don't want my head to swell up to the point I can't put my running shirt on.
Well done, @eleanorhawkins !!
Everybody is doing great!!! Keep it up!!

@hamsterwheel6 oh no!! I hope you heal up soon, too!!!
thank you everyone who responded with well-wishes again, I'm so happy to have found this community!
Day 2 of healing. Walking is getting easier and I can rotate it a little more without pain, but I still get pain when I try to fully extend/stretch it. I'm thinking if it keeps healing at this rate, I'll be ready for a small test run by Monday! I'm not changing my goal because I'm really hopeful that keeping my goal at 30mi will just help motivate me to get back into it and run more often, too!

I am loving the weather lately but not the air quality. 4.25 miles with burning lungs and started coughing at the halfway point.
14.6 September miles
California fires suck for many reasons but they make spectacular sunrises in Arizona.10 -

I talked to my husband and he is happy to make us an ebook to share with Kristi!
I was thinking about what would be the best way to share photos. If everyone is okay with sharing email addresses probably the easiest way would be me sending my email address to the challenge participants. Or we could share them through Facebook or something similar.
Kristi specifically asked for us to share our random acts of kindness with her! Some other things that might be cool to add include stories about @PastorVincent and about running the challenge. I thought maybe a map with points showing where everyone was from. It would also be groovy to have photos showing where different people did their running, what you all look like, and so on!7 -
9/1 – 7.02 miles
9/2 – 5.03
9/5 – 18.02

9/9 – 5.27

Total – 57.00/Goal – 130 miles
YTD – 1,116.13 miles
VM for @PastorVincent – 17.03/26.2 miles
I used my Amphipod Versa-Lite Max clip-on light for the first mile of my run this morning. At first I clipped it onto my ball cap. It worked fine if I was looking straight down at the ground but holding my head normal the light projected upward toward the sky which wasn’t very helpful. I moved it down and clipped it onto the waistband of my running skirt and it worked much better. The clip kept it in place – no bouncing around and it provided just enough light that I could see where I was going. I purchased it at REI and it was a little pricey at $35. It came with a USB charging cord. Hopefully, it will serve me for a long time!
@cameramandy – I’m located in southwest Virginia in the corner where Tennessee, North Carolina, Kentucky and Virginia all come together.
@shanaber – Beautiful pictures!
@hanlonsk – Brrr! I got a cold chill just looking at those pictures! It must have been a heavy, wet snow to be laying on the trees like that. I hope it all melts soon!
@Faebert – Sounds like a fun challenge getting the 5-year olds to run and not run into each other! Sweet!
Congratulations @eleanorhawkins!!!
Beautiful sky indeed @RunsOnEspresso!
@rheddmobile – thank you to you AND your hubby for everything you’re doing to make this challenge not only happen but to make something memorable for Kristi and their son to treasure. Thank you!!

Wednesday Sept 9 got 9 miles in, including 5.5 running miles, on the railroad access road. Got out too late in the morning and it was HOT! I’ve been using the klimaat app with Strava, and it keeps showing the temperature about ten degrees cooler than the official airport temp, which is always about 5 degrees cooler than our local weather underground station. So, I dunno. Klimaat said it was only 78 degrees feels like 78, weatherunderground said 89 feels like 98. It sure felt more like 98 to me!
That’s my first time running more than 5 miles on roads since being injured. I’m slow but I’m back! And I can walk without limping today, so far so good. I have been trying to walk really briskly during my walks, so as to keep as much fitness while being low impact as possible. Which means that amazingly, so far my Virtual Marathon for @PastorVincent time is on pace to stay ahead of the virtual Boston sweep wagon! Our virtual challenge for @PastorVincent doesn’t have a sweep wagon, but the official Virtual Boston Marathon has a time limit of six hours. I figured there was no way I would make it in under six hours walking half the way, but so far so good, if I can keep this up I just might!Virtually I am between mile 18 and 19 in Newton right now! I edited myself into this course photo!
Pretty flowers growing along the railroad tracks!9 -
@Mari33a you can choose the team name! I'm so bad at it!
@rheddmobile Thank you so much for putting this together! Kristi is going to be so excited! I think you have my email address - I'll keep you posted on photos, location, running spots, acts of kindness, etc.
@polska_girl Yes. I never did get the acts of kindness for each person over to Kristi - work got busy and then yesterday was my mom's would-be 67th birthday so we spent the evening cooking her favorite dishes and dancing to her favorite music and reading the stories of her childhood to my kids. It was a good night. Losing parents sucks. Losing Vincent sucks.
Anyway, yes! This is all great, though! Great running, everybody!6 -
@Tramboman has passed the halfway point and is headed through Wellesley center!
The Wunjowomen and @WandaVaughn blew past Heartbreak Hill like it ain’t no thing!
@skippygirlsmom Just passed the Forever Young statue to Johnny Kelley in Newton! Johnny Kelley won Boston twice and finished 61 times, and the statue shows him running hand in hand with his younger self.8 -
9/1 – 6 with Champ

Miles for PastorVincent – 19.48 @eleanorhawkins great job finishing
Wow @shanaber that is amazing picture of the hawk, sweet Hobbs. Great acts of kindness.
Great act of kindness @HonuNui I hate when people ask to get in front of me, if I have a lot I usually let them go but I’m with you walk down to the self checkout or express don’t ask to get in front of me when you have those options. We (not me) call them buggies in Alabama. I call them carts.
Sweet @marisap2010
@hanlonsk I gotta say I can do without your summer, so please keep it up there.
@Faebert I love the mile run and the couch to 5K for the kids, what a great idea. I’d love to watch them. Our high school T&F team has a track meet every year for our 7th and 8th graders that feed into our high school, the kids train in the events all year in gym class. When Skip was in 9th grade the PE teacher was her track coach and she had the kids run a mile once a week, the first week all the football players and guys were blah blah how great they were, she told Skip wait until halfway and show them. She ran like a 6:02 mile and the boys never spoke again, the boy leading she made up almost a whole lap to catch him. Ha ha
@quilteryoyo our minds are in the same place…is not killing someone being kind ha ha
Beautiful sunrise @RunsOnEspresso
@rheddmobile thanks for the shout out and the picture, I love it.
