@Teresa502 Thank you. I know in my head that mom and dad doing the lawn will make them feel useful, but my heart hates for them to have to do it. I did go talk to my best friend last night. She and her husband said they would do anything I need, including the lawn. Maybe if they all do it together I won't feel so bad. I am going to stay local - Johnson City. Even though I dislike Ballad Health (the conglomerate that has taken over health care here in E. TN) I think this particular group of surgeons is good and I trust them.

RACE RECAP: Kraśnik Half MarathonPictures:
Course: Mostly flat. Two laps of an out-and-back, then around a lake. Roads and paved bike path.
Weather: Pouring rain all weekend. I think this can actually be perfect racing weather if you're prepared. I wore a visor and a long-sleeved shirt and was fine, but completely water-logged and couldn't get my cold fingers to work properly for about 30 minutes afterwards. Then they handed me a pen at the bag deposit to sign for my bag 😆
Race: I tried to stay as dry as possible to not get cold before the start, but it was inevitable that we were getting soaked anyway. So I did a short warmup and got to the start line where I found a spot towards the back as usual. Said hi to a few people I know, jumped around to keep warm, and we were off. Not much happened during the first lap, other than a ton of toads lost their lives as they were trampled all over the road and I had to see their mangled remains along the entire out-and-back section (total of about 7k). Eww. I briefly considered counting them on the second lap, but then this Polish children's song about a frog who doesn't listen to her mother and ends up getting eaten by a stork (😆), started creeping into my head and I had to put a stop to that and think about something else. RIP toads.
Got to the lake for the 3-4k loop around and this short, older lady (I checked later - 68 years old but looked younger) who had been running slowly at the back, decided her warmup was over and she was entering racing mode. She passed me and kept going. A friendly older guy volunteer (guarding a potential course cut) pointed out she was getting away from me, haha. It was actually pretty awesome watching her go. I spent the next few miles watching her catch the next person, and then the next. Very strong lady. I hurried up coming around the lake because I didn't want the leaders to lap me, and judging by the crowd noise on the other side of the lake, I thought they might be coming around behind me. I made it to the 2nd lap without them catching up - success. Slight uphill and on to do it all again. At this point I started passing some people. Other runners were coming the other way and some of them knew me from Parkrun. It really was nice having someone cheer you on by name in a race and be able to cheer for them too.
SPEAKING OF PARKRUN! Sorry, rabbit trail - it's starting back up in a few weeks in October!!! I am thrilled!
Back to the race. Nearing the turnaround, I saw that guy I've passed 2 weeks in a row now, late in the race both times. This time, I felt the distance between us was a bit much for me to overcome, so I cheered him on instead. He ended up 2 places (1 minute) ahead of me.
There was a slight uphill, not much but enough that I passed a few more people. By the time we reached the lake again, I think my placement was set. I felt like my pace was slipping at the end, but held on to finish 2 minutes faster than last week (6 minutes faster than the week before), so I was thrilled. Still not a PB, but that's OK and I'm really happy with all 3 races and that I was able to do each one faster.
Now I'll take a week of recovery-level intensity and then see what kind of training I want to do for (hopefully) my next race(s).

@mbaker566 - I am so sorry you are having a tough time right now! 2020 just gets better and better... I hope spending some time with 'no should' and relaxing and spending time with your pups is helping. Definitely good news on having a job prospect already!
@kgirlhart - as others have said it does take a long time for the hurt to soften a little. I don't think it ever goes away the edges just don't seem so sharp after a while. I lost my mom a month before my wedding (I was just 21) and I still miss her. Same with my dad. We lost him and my MIL when our daughter was just 3. I miss them all still so much and am sad they weren't around to enjoy her growing up.
@Camaramandy648 - hope things settle down with your daughter and that her toes wasn't broken. For experience it will get better. My daughter actually wrote me an apology when she was in college 😊 it was sweet but as I told her, she was just being a normal teen.
@eleanorhawkins - I hope they get your dad to the specialist in London and you can get some more answers. Like someone else mentioned I would see about talking to his doctors but with all the privacy laws there I am sure he would need to give consent.
@WandaVaughn - I love running in the rain but then I am sure it is because we get so little of it. I too would be worrying! I hope your daughter gets good news and it is nothing serious!
@quilteryoyo - you know how I feel... do what is right for you though. Such a big (and scary!) decision.
@faebert - I am sure the couple loved their cake! Mmmm...cake!
@RunsOnEspresso - that trail run sounds tough! I am impressed you were able to go so far and finish it running in sand and so jot! I bet your legs are sore!
@rheddmobile - that AVR race looks interesting and a fun way to change things up!
Haven't posted an update in quite a while. Looks like I won't make my 100 mile goal for the month because of the non-running hot and smoke filled days. We are having another week upcoming of high temps (nearing if not 100F) and winds. Really hoping it doesn't result in more fires!

Small world stuff, Skip is at school almost 6 hours away and she was at an ice cream place sitting outside with a hoodie on from a virtual challenge we are doing and a woman said “are you doing that?”. Turns out her daughter goes to the same school and she was down for the weekend from here visiting her. The girls exchanged social media info and the mom and Skip are following each other on Strava now ha ha I said I’m glad you weren’t in a bar ha ha Actually talked to the mom today and she was kind enough to say how awesome Skip was.
A local photographer/runner guy in our area has been having these virtual races. You donate $5.00 to a cause he names and he sets up a course for 2 weeks and you run when you can. This weeks cause was our sweet Space Camp. He had 2 courses the road and trail. I signed up and donated to both and off I went. There are way too many pictures here … sorry I was having fun. He also gives gift cards donated by local businesses and I guess since I ran both I was a winner this week and won $25.00 to a local sports store..yay me!

Gorgeous day, yet again. I intended to run this morning with a friend but she had to cancel so I postponed running until the afternoon. Had to go to work for a while, then came home and took Stella out for another run/walk. Not quite as successful as last time but we managed to do 5.1 miles total of which 2.5 of that I was running, or attempting to run, between her sniffing stops.3 -

I ran 10 miles today. It was a pretty good run. It was kind of hot especially after the nice fall weather we've been having, but a cold front is supposed to be coming this evening and it should be cooler this week.

@Tramboman I should have checked the RTY ticker before I ran today. I only did 10.02 miles so we are 1.11 miles short. Ugh! I usually take Monday as a rest day, so I guess it may be Tuesday.

@skippygirlsmom – kudos to you for running both races to support the Space Camp and congrats on winning a gift card! I love that rabbit carving! Seeing some of the pictures reminds me of when I ran my Rocket City Marathon there.
Thankfully, this week was a cut back week for marathon training. When I got up this morning I was so sore from hiking that I seriously considered skipping running altogether. After doing some domestic chores, I felt less stiff so I got out for 13 miles. Description of my hike is in the spoiler and is rather long so if you want to skip it, scroll on!On Friday, me and three friends hiked the Alum Cave Trail to Mt. LeConte which is the third highest peak in the Smoky Mountains and the lodge elevation is round 6400 feet and is accessible by hiking only. It rained on us the entire way up the mountain which took us about 4 ½ hours. There was a lot of wet, slippery rock to negotiate. Even though our cabin didn’t have electricity or running water, it did have a propane heater which felt great after we stopped hiking and we were able to change into dry clothes and dry some of our others out somewhat. The lodge served unlimited hot chocolate and coffee from 2:30 – 5:00 and that was perfect for helping knock the chill off. As usual, I overpacked. I think my backpack weighed right at 20 pounds. It continued to rain the rest of the evening so we didn’t get to see the sunset. We spent most of the afternoon playing games in the cabin. Due to COVID, the dining hall was closed and the staff delivered individually boxed dinners to the cabin at 6:00 pm. Upon check-in, you are given a metal bucket and shown where the hot water spigot is located. There was a small wash basin located in each cabin and that was how you cleaned up. There was also another water spigot with potable drinking water so that you could refill water bottles. Thankfully, there were 4 bathrooms with flushing toilets for guests (no sinks, just a toilet in each). To keep the mouse population under control we were asked to put our snacks in a Ziploc bag with our name on the outside and you had to deposit those in designated cans in the dining hall before 9:00 pm and you could pick them up at 7:30 am the next morning.
We set our clocks for 5:30 the next morning in hopes of getting to see the sunrise and we were not disappointed. The clouds cleared out overnight and we awoke to stars shining brightly above. It was about a .70 of a mile hike from the lodge up to Myrtle Point which was the best place to view the sunrise.
We rushed back to the cabin for the 8:00 am breakfast. We missed coffee which was served from 7:30 – 8:00 but watching the sunrise was worth it. Breakfast consisted of pancakes, eggs, grits, biscuit and Canadian bacon and was delicious! Eating breakfast on the front porch of our cabin:
After breakfast we packed up and headed back down the trail. Unfortunately, the trail was packed with hikers coming up. In many areas, there is only room for one side to pass safely and with COVID it was hard to give people a wide berth. We had lots of stops and starts. It took us almost 3 hours to get back down the mountain because of all the people.9 -
@Teresa502 I knew you'd like the pictures. I'm not sure I'd go out of my way to run those trails again, but it was a nice change. The guy who marked the course, I don't know I just couldn't follow it. The old plane I came to it from behind, he had pictures he took while folks were running yesterday, they came from the front LOL

So, bit behind on posts, work blew up again, still am not back to fully staffed, ugh.
Anyways, had the 2nd appointment in the current round of physical therapy for the wonky ankle. More work on adjusting running form, more dry needling (still dunno what to think about that- so experienced reviews are welcomed).
I am not sure I am making progress on the change in form. The pt believes my propensity to heel strike is aggravating the already compromised ankle. So, he is trying to get more of a midfoot strike from me. Although the ankle is still definitely not happy... pretty much everything else from my hips down are currently pretty sore. So, i think that’s means I am at least doing things somewhat differently. But also am not convinced I am understanding or accomplishing the form change.
Today was a fairly chilly, kind of rainy, run. I really need to remember to wear/bring gloves.
According to Garmin records, 2.5 today = 14.6 / why am I starting over again?
In other news on the “starting over again” front.... I’m back to using big kid plates (45’s) on my deadlifts, at least. And did a single at 175 lbs. the Keto adventure is just as unfriendly to lifting energy as it is to my running energy. So, I am kind of happy with that.5 -

I'm feeling good today but taking it as a recovery day. I think the desire to run is more of an excitement about the races, than my body actually wanting to run today.3 -
Sunday’s programme called for a 2-3hr adventure run/hike so I headed to the hills with a couple of girlfriends.
We ran (walked) about 15km but it included over 700 metres of elevation in the form of more than 1000 stairs. I’m not sure which was harder, going up or coming down. Up definitely got the heart rate up but down was murder on my legs. We had a weather bomb come through so what was light drizzle heading up was a torrential downpour coming down. Super windy at the top too. Fun times! Followed it with a long hot bath and a nap!

I'm still lurking. The anxious teen had to go in for her first full day at school today, so there hasn't been much rest round here. Got to speak to my Dad on the phone for a couple of minutes last night, he sounded more or less coherent which was a huge relief. They've sent him home to wait for a couple of weeks before operating to remove the tumour, they won't know until after it's out whether it's cancerous or not so more of the waiting game to be played. Tried to visit the Screaming Bridge on Saturday, but it was Saturday so there were about a million cyclists on MY river trail. Shouldn't be allowed.

The lodge starts accepting reservations for 2021 at 8:00 am on October 1. From what I've heard, the phone stays busy constantly until all cabins for all nights are sold out in a matter of hours. So if you really want to stay next year make a note on your calendar to start calling on Thursday.2 -

4 miles this morning. Mondays always seem to feel the hardest of the week. Today was no different; add to that 24mph winds and gust up to 40, running without a hat due to aforementioned wind, forgetting to apply icy-hot to my legs, and having to wear a shirt for the first time since May, and feeling un-coordinated as hell. All summed up an even worse Monday run. Oh well, less than 3 miles to my 100 mile goal, so happy about that at least.

@hanlonsk I hate deadlifts. Also I think I hate them because I don't do them correctly. But I agree with @quilteryoyo.

RE: Screaming bridge - I think I let it all out when I run and keep going until I feel better. I'd be afraid to scream here, people would think I actually got GOT.
Okay, so yesterday, before I went to bed I was 2nd in the 172K, for the whole week. 26th in the 7K, which is what I think most people participated in.
This morning, I was 4th. But you know what? I've been eyeing Devon Yanko this whole series and she was 3rd this time. I was 4th. She is a pro. She is sponsored. I am neither. So while one part of me feels like I got knocked off the podium, I still get to be TOP 5 and right next to Devon. I am really pleased with this. Besides, I honestly don't know what more I could do to be better or faster, other than keep being consistent. Also, I'm not really competing with them. I'm competing with me. So what this means is.... what ELSE can I do?
Two of my toes are trash. It looks like, from when they turned black, the nail never fell off and there is a new nail growing underneath. It'll be fine as long as I don't do an ultra every day.... right? My twin brother suggested last night that I slow down or quit and I said, "Okay, well I have to get off the phone, then." I think it's normal when people closest to you aren't into the same thing as you and they see some damage and they're like, "Oh lord, you should QUIT!" He doesn't know or understand running and what it can mean if you get serious about it. This is okay with me. It's almost very validating. For the closest person in the world to me to say that I should quit - it means i've gotten THAT serious about it, lol.
But also.... I will need to be careful to not resent him for that. Remind myself he doesn't understand and he doesn't have to.
The Javelina Jallucinations starts today. TODAY. I JUST RAN 114.66 miles last week! The first loop is 20 miles and I have a week to do it. This is fine. I can do it and still have some weekend.
So my final stats for 172K = 106.88 miles are:

I am SO happy with this. Like elated.
And I am tired and hungry. OMG so hungry.10
