Hey, beautiful strong ladies of excellent repute, good morning to you all,

I didn't realize it was Oct 1 until I saw the new thread link. That means I must rearrange my day so I can get the monthly accounting checked out. I am up early and surprised that this new thread is already on page 2.

Workout I decided to shake things up this morning so I added walking on toes as if wearing heels to my sashay which is the final exercise of my routine. I amazed myself with a lot of hip movement while walking a straight line. On the return walk, I stepped in liquid on the kitchen floor. I was briefly puzzled before I realized the source. I mean what the hey, it isn't right. A girl of advanced years cannot even sashay without soiling her fresh donned sports panties and cleaning the floor.

DrKatie on Jeans I refuse to watch those discourses given by young ladies on fashion. By skinny jeans do they mean jeggings or a tight hip fit compared to relaxed or do they mean a tapered leg compared to a straight leg? These little wenches need to be more precise with fashion advice. They weren't even born in the days of bellbottoms that later became the bootleg style. Then there is a wide leg style in the straight leg. What about MOM jeans with their high rise that come in relaxed, curvy, and skinny all referring to hip fit. They all have taped legs but how they fit and look is very different.

How jeans look also depends on the fabric which also offers a wide selection these days. All kinds of weights and blends. Then inseam from to the foot to just below the knee. Then to make matters more complicated, jeans come in bleached damaged to ones that looked like the victims of a savage dog attack. I suggest the next style will have bloodstains around all the destruction. The super low rise. What woman looks good in those? 6-inch rise? When you can see the band and color of the young ladies G string above her jeans or determine her natural hair color, that is too low. Then there are the girls that resolve the super low rise and g string dilemma by going commando. The waist fat roll falls over the top, making them look even lower rise. Pair them with a crop top and it is great fashion for a Wal Mart shopping spree.

I refuse to call super skin-tight polyester spandex leggings jeans. It is great that they finally named them jeggings. My friend's granddaughters are greatly offended when I call them yeast infection incubators. Those things don't breathe and wearing cotton panties under just provides a moisture collector that won't dry. The commando presentation doesn't solve the problem either.

I take my jeans seriously and know the weight and blend of every pair. My all-time favorite is my AE mom jeans in 6 oz, 98% cotton and 2% spandex, 11.75" rise, relaxed hip, tapered leg to the ankle, and in a faded blue and NO DESTRUCTION. They are the coolest and most comfy for warm weather and around the house. I don my Carhartts for yard and garden work. They are mid-rise straight leg 12 oz, 99% cotton, 2% spandex, and I have both the double and triple stitch styles. I don't like them for sitting around because the waistband hits about the sciatic nerve area, when sitting, and aggravates it. They also don't allow the freedom of movement of the high waist mom jeans. Mom jeans earned their name for a reason. A mom must be ready to run, jump, dive, twist, bend, leap, kick, summersault, cartwheel, or sashay at a moment's notice and that is just to keep up with the kids. Should the DH come in a put a single red rose in his loves teeth, she must be ready to Argentine Tango till her DH drops in exhaustion. MOM jeans give her confidence and allow her the freedom to be all she can be.

    Honesty pants I like that.

I have a pair of jeans that don't quite fit I will call them my honesty pants.

Plans for today is stay with the 300 calories 3 times 150 calories x2. It worked a couple weeks ago. And I lost 3.6 lbs. that week. Last week I blew it and gained. So back to journaling and checking how I did it the week I lost.
today i'm making zucchinni lasagna and stuffed peppers.

I also have a couple pair of lightweight bamboo socks which I haven't tried yet. They've got bicycles on them so I'm waiting till warmer weather to wear them while cycling.

If you're going to wear socks as slippers, look up "Slipper Socks". :)

Machka - thank you for your bamboo sock input. My orthotics are very hard material (as are yours, I'd suspect) so cushioned socks to the rescue.

LOL I should have clarified my regular socks often end up as slipper socks when I kick my shoes and Oofos off now and then-not on a regular basis.

I have a lot of the regular slipper socks with the non-slip grippers but alas, same problem - not enough cush.

Linda - yes, good ole honesty pants. I have a pair of jeans - several, actually, like Faye's with a little bit of spandex, that are very comfortable and fit well when I'm at the weight I like. When they verge on getting "painful" then it's time to buckle down.

I donated my "fat pants" so have no excuse and I refuse to buy any more jeans. There are times I need to be presentable and can't live in my baggy sweats all the time. :p

Yes, my orthotics are hard. If I want to walk a longer distance with them, I wear a thin pair of socks with lightweight wool socks over them. That's my go-to for hiking, long walks, and long runs.

But since I moved to Australia, a lot of the time I'm in bare feet ... in sandals or just bare feet ... so I've gotten used to walking on hard surfaces with no foot protection.

Went out for supplies for dinners' veg and told DH I would get the cream he needs to make the dessert. They didn't have any cream. Masses of yoghurt, but no double cream. Of course he is out walking without his phone. :# I am going to leave him to sort it out for himself. I have seen that he has printed out a recipe, so his intentions are good.

Lanette - my socks are thin and I haven't washed them yet.

Ragu from the freezer tonight with butternut squash and broccoli. Parmesan.

Loving my phone now I have mastered it.

    HAPPY OCTOBER!

I think I missed Spring and Summer, so hoping this will be a happy and blessed month for all! :)

Barbie ~ Thanks for a new month!

Lisa ~ Glad to hear that you are feeling better.

Machka ~ I have downloaded the Happiness Calendar and am planning to follow each day. My goals for October are mainly not to gain any more weight and to stay calm around angry people. Also, to listen before I speak.

Lanette & Machka ~ I had a couple of pair of those house shoe socks from Walmart and they didn't give me enough support so had to quit wearing them.

(((Allie))) ~ Children get older, but, we still worry about them as much as we did when they were young.

I like Thorlo socks but I don’t know if they make any in bamboo. I think it would be lovely if they did. Thorlo makes some lovely-feeling socks that are well-cushioned. I have several pairs; 2 pairs I finally threw away a few years ago after they developed holes. They were over 20 years old when I tossed them. A well-made sock.

    Self-clean ovens

We used to always use the self-clean feature on our oven. One time we made the mistake of using the self-clean feature on our oven when it wasn’t really dirty enough, and it blew a fuse because it got too hot and there wasn’t enough spilled food to absorb the heat.

    Expensive.

The repair guy told us to use self-clean only when the oven is really dirty, like after preparing a Thanksgiving dinner with lots of bubble-overs and a big mess. Instead, he recommended immediately peeling up baked-on greasy spills with a razor blade paint scraper while the oven is still warm (not hot), followed by a quick wipe out with slightly soapy water. That’s what we have done since the fuse-blowing, and it isn’t as much work as it sounds like.

We don’t use oven-cleaner sprays, usually, but we would to spot-clean if we had to.

If we ever decide to use the self-clean feature, we will take ourselves and our animals out of the house during the cleaning process, due to respiratory issues and the potential for some build-up of carbon monoxide, which is heavier than air, so would affect creatures on the floor the most.

I am at my older grandchildren’s house this morning. I have agreed to “be available” Thursday mornings as an adult family member to act as a reinforcement for Kayla, an autism specialist. Kayla spends every morning with my 14-year-old autistic grandson as Learning Coach for school, ninth grade. She never needs my help in any way, as she has things well in hand.

I must admit it is a relief not to be Learning Coach this year. Kayla is much better at it overall. I got him successfully through 7th & 8th grade. Kayla sometimes lets him suffer the consequences of not completing assignments, where I couldn’t stand to do that and would keep going with him until he was done. He doesn’t find school interesting. It’s a chore for him.

For those that don’t know, my grandson was not diagnosed with autism until 2.5 years ago. He was given a lot of other incorrect diagnoses prior to then, which then proved to be incorrect (and harmful to him) over time. Now he is getting appropriate help. Part of the reason he was misdiagnosed is that he is very verbal and quite intelligent.

There are so many people out there with undiagnosed autism who are verbal and intelligent.

I planned to get some perennials planted this afternoon, as it is perfect weather, and they need to get out of the pots on the deck and into the ground well before first frost. Unfortunately, I just got a text from my spouse that she fell a little bit ago, injuring her shoulder, while taking a couple of hydrangeas out to the area where we plan to locate them. She is home icing her shoulder.

Barbie: Thank you for the new month! October is here!!! My Halloween decorations are up and I appreciate the added lights outside. This is the season when I need a little more Vitamin D3. I’ll keep needing it until the days start getting longer in January. :star:

Tracey: Thanks for the good wishes for my sweet old dog. :flowerforyou: I just adjusted my watch’s day of the week for the new month. Hard to believe it is October 1 already! Schooner’s surgery is tomorrow, October 2. I think your four year old granddaughter is a brilliant child. You can have fun watching her grow up.

Barbara: Have you been eating salty foods? I have to keep an eye on salt intake or my hands puff up and hurt. :grumble:

Heather: Happy Birthday Month for you and DH! :flowerforyou:

Lisa: You have been missed! It is great to see your post.

Kim: Congrats on your creative cooking! :star:

Heather: We can get lamb in season, but I’ve never seen goat anywhere that we shop. :ohwell: There may be some available on Sauvie’s Island at one of the farm stores. I haven’t shopped for new clothes in ages. Stores that sell women’s clothes are in Portland & Beaverton. Both cities have many covid cases and we’re avoiding going there. Amazon is available. :flowerforyou::

Linda in N Ontario: I’m happy to see your post. :star:

Happy October 1 to all of us. Our Halloween decorations are up, inside the house and outside, too. I need to get a supply of Halloween candy, and already have an idea—mini Kind Bars. They’re healthy and we have them on hand for our own use. We don’t anticipate a large number of kids here. I may waver and go for individual Reece’s Peanut Butter Cups. Trick or Treat is at the end of the month.

Our sweet old dog is having surgery tomorrow to remove a cancerous lesion from his backside. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that it turns out well. Please send good thoughts his way.

Lanette Bamboo Socks I have light stretchy socks in bamboo/spandex. I can't tell much difference between them and my nylon/spandex except they are just a bit heavier and slower to dry. My new sleep/lounge shorts are also a very light and soft bamboo/spandex and they are great, but again much slower to dry. The idea of bamboo is it is sustainable and healthier, but all the chemicals and processes they use make the fabric, I don't see it has any benefits over nylon. They both breathe well. For socks or undergarments, I prefer it to cotton because it doesn't retain moisture as much as cotton, but more than nylon. I personally hate polyester and avoid it except for a lower percentage in garments like T-shirts. Despite all the claims how it wicks away moisture when used in sports bras and shorts, such is not my experience.

House sock slippers I cannot even go around in socks let alone those slippery slippers. I wear my light stretch socks with my Sketcher stretch on shoes with memory foam insole for around the house in cold weather. Walking sandals that fasten securely over the ankle, the rest of the time. With my balance issues, a good solid footing is a must.

My goals for Oct. To step up my workout routine slightly and doing more walking and keep the TV off and limit the internet to positively charged interaction like this thread and forum. To not order any more sports bralettes and bottoms. I ordered 2 more bras in black and 4 pair panties in black not realizing it was Oct. 1 so this goal starts now at 0740 hours PST.

Mask top It will be arriving on the 30th! Yea, so excited for the added chest warmth, neck coverage, and option to pull up a mask should anyone want to cozy up unsocially close. I think with my new bralette and my Lole jacket, it will be an awesomely warm, and comfy walking outfit. Also great for visiting the bank when I need to make an in-person large cash withdrawal and have low funds.

Boyfriend AHEM AHEM! No, I don't have one except in their old failing minds, but need to discuss a concern that has been bugging me for some time. Why do we call a man friend of romantic involvement a BOY friend? If we say man friend that could mean just friends, but using boy infers we are doing the uglies. I don't get us at our advanced years using this juvenile terminology. It seems to me saying, my man friend denotes mature masculinity. The boyfriend seems immature and all hormonal and void of the caring and sharing we as advanced years females desire. There must be a better term we can use, but I can't think of any. One of my friends says that nothing gets her procrastinating skilled husband motivated like threatening to find a handyman "boyfriend." Saying a handyman friend just doesn't have the same motivating effect.

Katla I hope they can remove the cancerous lesion successfully and you and your dog can enjoy many more years. I hope no chemo is necessary although dogs seem to do well. One of my neighbor's dogs had chemo recently and is looking and acting very normal. I think he must be around 14 with lots of gray around his face.

Did Michelle Olsen’s Perfect Legs Blutes and Abs DVD. The plan for tomorrow is to do a step DVD. Haven’t done one in a while

My freezer is getting so full again. At the start of summer and during the summer I fill the freezer with fruits. Now the winter squashes are out. I made spaghetti squash in the IP and is it ever good. Tried butternut squash in the IP but I don’t like it as much

I like to run my self clean oven as it gets closer to Christmas. The heat helps heat the house (I would think so)

    Heather – happy birthday early!

I go to the MD next month for my regular physical. I got this Medicare Wellness Assessment in the mail that I need to fill out. To me, how dumb. The questions they ask! But I’ll fill it out anyway.

I like the suggestion of self cleaning the oven while your hubby is out of the house

Went to Aldi today during senior time. Was in and out in ½ hour.

Katla – would you please ask your hubby what the difference is between a top round beef roast and a London broil? I have a recipe that calls for a top round beef roast, but I can’t seem to find one anywhere. It looks like a London Broil is a good substitute. Is it? I’ve never seen mini Kind bars, but I don’t doubt that they make them. Good thought for Scooner for tomorrow

Karen VA – I do hope your spouse is feeling better soon
