I probably won't be weighing in this week - pms has hit this week and I'm super bloated. Ugh. Last month I started an entire week early. Maybe it's perimenopause?

Hey everyone, I'm just checking in with my Wednesday weigh in. It was good! Not as good as it could be, but good. I have seen lower numbers on the scale over the past few days but of course, it doesn't cooperate for the weigh in day. I've been doing well and logging deficits everyday, and it's showing!
Yesterday I added back in some exercise after taking a few weeks off. It felt pretty good! I just hopped on the treadmill for a quick 20 min walk/jog. I want to watch exercise closely to make sure it doesn't prompt me to eat a ton.
For this upcoming week, my exercise goals are to exercise 4x and practice yoga 5x.
I really want to meet my October goal.
Weight Goal for Oct: 204 (5 lbs)
Oct 1: 209
Oct 7: 207.9 (-1.1)
Oct 14: 205.9 (-3.1)5 -
Today I:
- Did not buy (or eat; I am out) any Jeni’s ice cream
- Tracked all my food and came close to my goal
- Got on the exercise bike for 15 minutes
- Am heading to bed rather than watching TV and late night snacking, while ahead
I’m calling this a huge success.9 -
So I’ve had a good few days, I haven’t lost anything the second week in Oct yet.... just keep sticking it. Think I will dip a little by the weekend. I laughed because I realized I was actual under cals and could have a small bowl of fiber cereal with a couple of berries tonight...Who thought I would ever be excited about that!7

I'm just stopping by to say hi, because each day that goes by I feel guiltier about not following through on my commitment in September! I ended up driving across the country to visit my mom and sister's family in mid Sept, and have been living in a tiny Airstream trailer in her backyard for a month now. I was only going to stay a week but circumstances changed.
My program has gone completely out the window -- I can't cook in the camper, and exercising consistently has been a real challenge. My brother-in-laws parents (sister's husband) were both admitted to the ER with Covid. I'm working very long hours and have been eating a lot of grab-n-go foods like sandwiches. It doesn't feel good. I'm trying to just hang on as best I can and not do too much damage during this time. I have already gained 5lbs back of the 7lbs I lost over the past three months. I'm glad I'm here but I miss my routine.
I'm going to keep my goals for the rest of the month very simple:
* Intermittent fasting (16:8)
* Walking or yoga 3x week, even if it's just for 20 minutes
On a side note, it's really great to check back in and see how many people got into Onederland in the month since I've been gone!! I read all the posts and I'm inspired!!7 -
Today's been hard. Probably ate about 500 extra calories, but I'm just going to be okay with it, and hope that we don't have a repetition of the stress that was weighing on me today. PTSD is not just hard on the person who has it.
But I have hope; he had a first session today with a therapist who specializes in PTSD, and he and I are agreed, and he told the therapist, that what he wants is not a psychodynamic process that takes years, but something more like physical therapy for a damaged joint, where you work hard on the precise problem in therapy and you take exercises home, and you expect to see improvement over a few months, not over years.
And I'm not going to worry about what the scale says or doesn't say for a few days, because right now I'm going to focus on self-care and making sure that I am able to handle things when he has a hard time of it. And that's focusing on taking my meds and supplements, keeping the day to day things in order, and making sure I'm able to listen non-judgmentally and with unconditional positive regard as he talks about his feelings. Which requires that I be at a point where I feel balanced and secure, and that requires the self-care I mentioned.
To that end I have plans to go see a friend and hang out and talk Friday night, and get a little respite from the caregiving.6 -
Hello, folks. Remember me from September? I met my goal last month and finally got my BMI under 30 (29.9 but who's counting) and have stayed in Onederland for 2 months. In spite of those personal successes, I was very unhappy with the way my skin was beginning to look (wrinkled, crepey?). Anyway, I thought I would take a break and let my skin catch up or something (I will be 71 this month so maybe I was expecting too much). All I intended to do was up my calories a bit by adding some carbs.
For the first 3-4 days of October all went well and then all hell broke loose. I stopped IF and started eating crap so I stopped tracking honestly. Since I wasn't holding myself accountable I ate more crap. When I stopped tracking I stopped daily exercise. I was completely off the rails by Oct. 10. It only took a week to put 4.5 lbs. back on which almost erased September's 5 lb. loss.
This is the same pattern that has dogged me for the last 25 years. Lose enough to slide under 200, pat myself on the back and reward myself by going back to my old habits. Enough is enough. Sunday I took control again. I will be back with you in November and December (providing you take cheaters like me back) because there is no way I will make it through the holidays without some help.
Congratulations to all of you who are steadily moving towards goal this month. I want to be like you again. See you on Nov. 18 -

@PennycillinEQ- don't fret. That 4.5 pound weight gain is probably at least 4 pounds of water. You ate later at night and you ate more carbs than you were use to - both of those things will lead to temporary weight gain. A couple of days of buckling down will send that water weight right through you.
Regarding wrinkled, crepey skin - taking a diet break won't solve it. If you still have subcutaneous fat and extra skin, gravity will cause the fat to continually stretch the skin, preventing the skin from shrinking. Only way round it is through it - you have to lose the extra fat, then eventually the skin can start returning to normal - or so I'm told by others who have been through this. I'm still in the wrinkly skin phase. Check back with me in two years. Another alternative is surgery. Personally, I'd rather be wrinkly for a couple of years.4 -

Finally started my period this morning and was also pleasantly surprised to see a lower number on the scale despite that and weighing in an hour earlier than normal! I'm starting a new approach to my eating habits each day based on this phrase: "Eat your breakfast alone, share your lunch with a friend, and give your dinner to your enemy." Or I've also seen it as "Eat breakfast like a king, lunch like a prince, and dinner like a pauper." So far it seems to be working well!
Also, I got a seasonal part time job for the holidays and my first day is today! I work full time and love my job, but the cost of living in my city continues to go up and I have some vet bills to pay off from my cat that I had to say goodbye to last month. This job will also involve a lot of walking (in store shopping to fulfill online grocery orders) so I think it will help me stay more active over the next few months. Oh, and I also ordered a balance ball and resistance bands this week during Amazon prime days so I can do at home workouts over the winter. Feeling motivated!

Exercise : 20 min walk (still very sore foot but being careful)
Total weight loss so far... 5.8 pounds

I'm with you on the no surgery. I like to think I am past the point where vanity steers my health decisions. With winter coming I will be out of shorts and tank tops so I think I will quit worrying about it for six months and maybe by then a little more of the subcutaneous fat will be gone. Good morning everyone (at least its morning where I live)!
The scale for me has been stuck at the same number all week despite diligent logging and pretty darn good food choices (for me, anyway). I've not been having any alcohol and have really watched the snacking. I'm at that point where once again the feelings of doubt come in: I can't do this, this doesn't work for me, I can't get past 205, weight loss isn't possible after 40, blah blah blah.
I have experimented with adding back in exercise this week, but it's been pretty minimal. I have done yoga twice and also two treadmill workouts that were short runs (20 minutes). Nothing that should cause weight gain. I'm always fairly active. I do have a desk job that I am telecommuting with right now, but I also live on a farm and have two young kids - my steps average about 13k a day without really trying.
I know that it's just a weird scale thing and the number is just a data point. I know that I NEED to keep up what I'm doing.
Today's goals:
1. drink plenty of water, keep that water bottle filled up and next to me.
2. practice mindful eating and log everything
3. yoga
4. keep my head in the big picture and not focused on a number on the scale

This whole weight loss thing is really a mental game...for me anyway. I go weeks at a time following my food/exercise regime and i am proud of myself for the hard work and pleased with my success. Then, BAM out of nowhere, I find myself in the doldrums wondering if any of this even matters or if it is even making a difference.
In the past I have struggled with outside validation. Like I'd lose 20 pounds then bask in the glow of all the compliments...then proceed to eat my way back up. This time I have shut out the outside validation as much as I can. But as i approach 50 pounds lost, it kind of stands out. So when i land in the doldrums, I'm tempted to listen to the outside voices. And I'm fearful of failure as a result. Imagine the congratulations of family and friends actually leading me to failure?! That's a little *kitten* up.
I'm sorry to rant here. But I try not to talk good/bad weightloss in my every day. Anyone else go through this kind of roller coaster?5 -
Oh goodness I love me some Fall and October! For us Canadians it's a month of turkey and candy and -used to be- family gatherings! This year a wrench has been thrown into things but we can still enjoy our Thanksgiving and our candy loving Halloween.. and yet I find myself not wanting to do any of them.
Our Thanksgiving has already passed and because we could not see family this year we didn't do anything for it at all. Didn't make a turkey dinner, nothing. Just another day this year.. so saved myself some face stuffing that day. Cause lets be real, who can resist stuffing and mashed potatoes with gravy and that juicy delicious turkey? I know I cannot.. but this year. Totally unphased by it all.
Anyways, Halloween is the same for me personally. Not a big candy person. Every now and then I like some chocolate but the rest is nah.. CHIPS on the other hand... Lord save me. I have to resist them hardcore.
I recently started up again with tracking and being more mindful of what and HOW MUCH I'm eating..
I am 25 weeks pregnant - and don't freak out saying I shouldn't be losing weight.. I'm over 300 lbs and higher risk due to some other issues so YES my doc knows about this and I am being monitored regularly for other things and so this was just another box he looks at when we meet every few weeks -
Anyways on to the real goods right?
I am 31 have 3 girls and pregnant with #4 (yes another girl.. please send wine) I have a bf of 4 years who is ALSO on MFP doing this with me! support right there I tell you.

312.4 lbs (I started at 316 so down 4 already, look at me go! lol)
As I talked about with the doc I'm not focused on crazy restrictions or sticking to the allotted calorie and macro amounts MFP has given me simply because I am pregnant. I am just being more aware of what I am eating and the biggest one HOW MUCH I'm eating.. cause thats a huge thing for me.. eating WAY too much and justifying it that I'm hungry.. clearly baby needs it.. HAH what a crock of **** you know?! Baby didn't need it.. Mama wanted it.
Anyways, small goals would be just to
* Track every day for a week/month etc
* No chips (my weakness)
* If I have candy or a treat of some kind keep it within a single portion PER day (today was eggnog!)
* Try to walk at least 2 days out of the week for 2km (1mile for you lovely americans)
* Feel good enough to walk up my stairs to the bathroom or bed without being INCREDIBLY winded that I need my inhalors (outside of baby pushing all my organs where they don't belong lol)
Ultimate goal would be years to come but my very end goal, the light at the END of the tunnel would be:
* Maintenance at 130-150lbs
* A size 6-8 in pants (Oh the dreams!)
* Be able to BUY a bra IN STORES instead of ordering one -_- ($$$ ouch)
* DO some kind of crazy marathon or half marathon or run for charity etc.. something I would never do in a million years right now
But yea.. so.. I guess I'm in lol

This week's heatwave has helped tremendously!! LOL!! I have absolutely no problem drinking water when it's hot outside. I lose count how much I drink.
Workout 5 times a week, but also I want to increase the time that I workout each day from 30 minutes to one hour (gradually).
/ I so didn't have the energy to workout on Tuesday, but I am pretty close to doing one hour of exercise!! I think the most I did this week was 55 minutes? Also, for the past two weeks now, I've been including 7 lb dumbbells into my workouts. To think I started out using water bottles as "dumbbells" back in August.3 -

I have either a head cold or an allergy outbreak, cause from all my medical friends have told me, COVID doesn't make you sneeze all the time and give you nasal congestion. Which is a relief, but I still don't feel all that fabulous just now. (sigh)3 -

First day at the part time job went well today - LOTS of walking as well as going up and down stairs regularly. Over 9k steps! I think I will really start to see some progress on the scale soon!6

I celebrated a small achievement this week, seeing my scale drop just below 210! We had Canadian thanksgiving dinners, so I overate and didn’t get in as many workouts.
I felt frustrated seeing my weight go back up from 209.. so I thought I would focus on some things I’m proud of:
- Bringing my lunches to work almost daily
- Turning down alcohol on two occasions when eating out
- Going to the gym 5x this last week

@iloveeggnog I really get what you are saying about the outside validation! I yearned for it in the beginning and then it took so long for anyone to say something! (Which irritated me) Now I feel like everyone is watching me constantly...always asking about my weight, its pressure! So I'm brushing off the compliments, and backhanded insults... my manager who is a female told me a few weeks ago 'Gosh this weightloss is really taking a toll on your face, you look old' I laughed at her rudeness and said well I am 49 and I'm not bothered about a few extra wrinkles! I'm totally focused on harnessing my energy into exercising! I've just finished week 6 run 3, the first non-stop 25 min run, I ran at the end of the day because I"m intermittent fasting so I wanted to run after a healthy lunch but waited for the sun to start setting so it wasn't too hot. This run was great! Better than the two ten minute runs! The last 60 sec was uphill and I managed! It's unbelievable that I'm running! So yes I agree this journey is a rollercoaster, but remember you are steering it! Be kind to yourself, and never give up!9

Little bites are the only way to eat an elephant! I'm happy with a loss. I'm cutting my coffee intake down to 3 cups a day as it had slowly crept up to 5 cups and I was getting hungry! So back to lemon water.
Thanks ladies, I wasn't bothered by what my manager said, she doesn't have a filter so its like water off a ducks back. Its about being fitter and more able, and yes I don't have a bikini body, I'm absolutely ok with that! I'm in control of myself and so far much happier for it, and I guess when I have a mini break out its also about not letting it get out of control, so getting back on the horse next meal!! This journey is mental and physical, its life changing.

I weighed this morning because what the heck, it's not too cold today to get naked and stand on the scale, and I was down a pound. 49 pounds lost, nearly there!
And the other thing is that my muffin top has deflated enough that I can pull the jean waistband up around/over it and actually start wearing the waistband at my waist. This is one of the things I was hoping would happen, and it really makes me happy.7
