I was doing great for the first two weeks of October. Then I went to Costco with some co-workers and we ended up splitting lots of things like muffins, chips, and a pumpkin pie.
The thing that I forget about myself is that I'm a binge eater. Sometimes, I think I've got a handle on my eating, like for the first two weeks of this month, and I say sure, 'I can get a quarter of this pie or half a huge bag of chips, or 6 muffins out of 24. What a good choice that I'm not eating it all by myself.' But then I go home with all that food and I definitely eat it all in a couple of days.
I'm back on track and I've gotten rid of ( or eaten) all the unhealthy stuff, but honestly. I should know better at this point. Still down 4 pounds this month and I'm hoping to lose another three or four by Halloween. But it's just frustrating that I don't know better at this point.10 -

Lost a bit over 2 pounds this last week so I am feeling pretty good so far this month. It is not always easy because my husband likes to cook and it's generally not the healthiest of foods, but I find if I plan my breakfasts and lunches during the week (eggs, salads, fruit, tuna packets, cottage cheese are my go-to's), I can enjoy a smaller portion of what he cooks and still be in my caloric goal for the day.
One goal this month was to be better about exercising. That hasn't happened yet, but my goal this week is to use the exercise bike in our basement at least twice this week!7 -

I think it worked!! I was doing very well in the loss department. My highest was 315# and in March I was at 279#. then I was sent home to work through Covid, and am at 290#. Not a complete regain but too much. I have since found out too I need a complete right knee replacement, which explains so much about the pain during working out, walking, etc. I have bought a recumbent bike to help strengthen the muscles around both knees.
My goals:
Still to lose 5# in October, 5# in November, 5# in December
Log everything going into my mouth - no more "i'll get to it in a bit"
Lots of water - 40 oz to start (on top of my tea and 1 cup of coffee)
Fruit or veggie at every meal
Reduce added sugar

If you make a mistake in your post, you have an hour to edit it. In the web-based app hover your cursor over the upper right hand corner of your post. You should see a "gear" icon. Click the gear and select edit. Has saved me from many a typo or grammatical mistake, and occasionally an instance of oversharing that I thought the better of.
If you really make a doosy but forget to edit it within an hour, you have to ask staff to edit or delete your post. That has never happened to me, thankfully.4 -

Finally the scale moved below my last lowest weight! I lost 2.2 lbs from yesterday and 1.4 lbs from my September low. I finally lost more than 20 lbs. I was so close for so long. For those of us who have lost or maintained or have only gained a lb or 2 since early March, I think we should give ourselves credit for not gaining the COVID 19 lbs so many have or if we did and are doing something about it give yourselves a pat on the back. So here is my Monday check in:

October Goal weight: 242 again or at least in the low 240s
Goals:- Log daily, stay under my calorie goal, drink at least 8 glasses of water a day, get enough sleep and check into this thread on weekdays to track progress;
- Continue my plan to up NEAT
- Continue to increase exercise until I am at 45-60 minutes 6 days a week. Right now I am working on 30-60 minutes 5 days a week. 2 days of strength training and other exercise including walk/runs.
- If I get this job (still waiting for official contract to sign), make sure I create and follow a schedule that includes meal planning and cooking at home (me, my husband and daughter) drinking water, increased physical activity and exercise. Adjust calories to activity and exercise level as needed.
- Declutter Art Room and set up home office. Declutter the basement hallway and insist my youngest clean the bathroom.
Last month I only had 3 goals but this month I added one in case I got the job. I just added another goal to get ready for my job. If somehow it falls through I will have my art room ready to use. Last week I did what I could to get things out of it that didn’t belong. I was patient waiting for my husband to get the big things out this weekend. He waited till the last minute and got them out last night. So this week I can actually organize and clean up. I will still be getting rid of things like kid art supplies from teaching. Next weekend my husband needs to help me set up the desk and move the chair in. As I have less cleaning activity I will pick back up on exercise.
We took a little hiatus on Saturday and had our social distancing buddies over for our last meet up for the year since they live in Texas except for the summer. We celebrated my job offer and said our in person good byes for the year. I made Lancashire Hotpot they brought the bubbly and an apple pie. It was a typical Seattle day cool with a fine mist. We had an umbrella set up for their table. We also used out firepit which we hardly ever use.
Another thing I have been thinking about. I was originally going to have a rest from deficit calories when I lost 10% of my original weight. However I have decided that since my loss has been so slow and I have had long periods of staying the same weight that this isn't really necessary. What I will watch is if I start to up my exercise schedule significantly and exercise 6-7 days a week for over 45 minutes a day I will re-evaluate my calorie goal to make sure I adjust for my upped activity level especially if I am also more physically active otherwise. Last time I lost weight I had to take a break from low calories and adjust my calories up to lose. However I am not going to assume this weight loss is the same as last time. If I am losing I will keep it going but if I am stalling with a significant calorie deficit I will look at my calorie burn.

You may be closer than you think. Girls often go through it earlier. My daughter didn't but I actually liked it when she started mouthing off because she is such an agreeable person it was a pleasure finally hearing what she was thinking.2 -

@silicattcmfp I love your kitties. I have always wanted an orange tabby cat but now we have a bonded pair of grey striped tabbies. They are still very big kittens (teens). Proud of you losing your pregnancy weight. I did that for my 1st pregnancy but not for my last one. Welcome to this thread.
@AlexandrFindsHerself I hope you and your household starts to have a better time. It seems like you are having your rest from deficit calories now instead of when you planned. I am glad you are taking a break for yourself. I have sneezing bouts but then I am allergic to cats. Glad you have lost another lb. and love you NSV.
@Tarzan37 take it easy. Glad you aren’t feeling so bloated. Nice check in. Congratulations on your new job. I am so glad you like it. What a boon to get a lot of activity in. Whenever I go grocery shopping these days I get very tired. I am starting to use resistance bands too. Oh your job is part-time. Sounds perfect.
@shorepine Nice progress so far. I think you can make that October goal. Yes keep it up and ignore the scale if you are doing everything right.

@PennycillinEQ Yes I remember you. Glad you met your Sept goals. Glad you have taken back control. You do not need to wait until November to joining us. For a few months one of my most important goals was to check this thread daily. Now I don’t have to make that a goal it is just a pleasure. My loss has been slow until today for months. We need to find a sustainable way of losing if we expect to keep off the weight we gain. Maintaining is really much the same as losing. You still need to have a calorie goal to maintain and you still need exercise to be healthy and fit. So if you are having a hard time keeping in Onderland maybe the diet that got you there isn’t sustainable. Find a way of eating that you are happy with. That is more important than losing fast. The one advantage of my losing slowly is so far my skin isn’t loose yet. I would like to lose a little faster though. I have never wanted to lose more than 4 lbs a month. However if you keep off the lbs you lose your skin will adjust but it takes a while. When you reach Onderland you still need to log your calories. You just need to adjust them for maintenance once you reach your goal. Same deal as when you lost.

@iloveeggnog We need to approach this not as a temporary weight loss thing but a permanent life change that means finding a healthy relationship with food. We need to have some joy every day in what we are eating. We do need to eat for health too. We need to get exercise not really to lose but to be healthy and fit. I haven’t been exercising since I am cleaning out my art room and I finally lost weight. So all this has nothing to do with outside validation. Enjoy that but it isn’t the end game. No worries about ranting. This is one of the hardest things to do. That is why we need each other.
@Ketokairalie Welcome. I enjoyed reading your post and getting to know you a bit. I allow myself 1 treat a day but make sure it is only a serving.

@changeforeverlj I just like your attitude. I am 67 and don’t have many wrinkles. I think I didn’t get them at all until I turned 60 but I think as I lose I will see more. When I regained I was happy that my face didn’t really show it. Before I lost the 1st time my face looked really bloated and unhealthy. I think it is because I kept exercising even though not as much as when I wasn’t working. So I gained but I was healthier. So you are right to look at what you want to achieve and brush off what others think. Also I think your skin will adjust to your weight loss. You will have a win/win in the end.

@RavenStCloud I only try to lose 4 lbs a month so you are doing well in my book. I chuckled at you getting rid (or eaten) remark because I know what you mean. That is usually how I get rid of temptations unfortunately. You are doing fine.

I loved the posts on how to quote/reply to someone’s post. I learned something with @Tarzan37’s post since I just quote the whole post and then delete what I want between the quotes. Also nice to see you are near 20 lbs lost!
@duprus2 I love how you have found a way to work around your husbands cooking. Never discourage a husband from cooking. I have been doing more meal planning and cooking once my work went on furlough etc. but I always plan a few of my husband’s meals he makes in so I don’t do all the cooking. I also sometimes make the entrée and ask him to make the side dishes.
@azalea4175 good job stopping that regain. When I was working at the office I had my coffee (a latte) on the way to work then a tea when I got to work then I was supposed to drink lots of water. Now the coffee is black coffee and I get right to water. I sort of miss my tea but I am drinking more water. I am thinking of adding a cup of tea in when I start back work next month.

Binge eating is a food addiction just as much as binge drinking is an alcohol addiction. And I live with an addict, and he admits, addiction lies. It swears that it's okay to have it in the house, that one won't hurt, that it will feel good, etc. and it lies every time. The only way you could possibly manage food in those quantities is to separate into portions and freeze it immediately. I mean, that's the only way I can have chips and ice cream in the house; I buy them in portions and cannot, at this point, handle a quart of ice cream in the freezer. There WILL be a point within the month where I go get it and eat until I'm sick. So there is no quart of ice cream.5 -

Look at us, a world apart, in opposing seasons and yet each other's cheerleader! Your manager was mean, by the way, but happy you could bounce it off!!
I weighed in yesterday but just getting around to updating on here this morning. I was helping my cousins move all weekend and eating not exactly on track (still under but just felt a little out of control since I wasn't in my own kitchen). So I was surprised to see the scale cooperating. I am officially down 50 pounds.
Highest weight: 250
Starting weight June 1, 2020: 242 pounds
Starting weight October 1, 2020: 199
Current weight October 20, 2020: 192
I had an accident on the weekend and hurt my knee cap (nothing major, thankfully, just monster bruising) so I'm hoping it won't affect my run. If it hurts tonight, I will walk instead until it feels okay again. At 45, I'm not taking chances on screwing up my knees for life.
Speaking of running, my brother came to visit yesterday with a running room jacket in his hands. His wife was cleaning out her closet and came across the jacket. She is a small lady but hates running and doesn't intend to run again so figured someone who runs may as well use it. As he passed it to me, I saw that it was a size medium so I said oh gosh, it's a medium, thanks but I'll hang this up til I lose 30 pounds! He insisted I try it on! I put it on, zipped it up, and it fit perfectly! Much to my amazement! Definitely a win!

I have been bouncing up and down since January and decided to start using the community to give me more support and encouragement to keep going, to move in the direction I want. Today is my first official "check-in", a big step for me to actually post numbers in public. I know I can do this because I WANT to do this.7 -
Eating a much smaller meal for dinner has really helped me kick my weightless into gear this past week. I am down over 3lbs in the last seven days, although that weight seven days ago was a bit high due to time of the month bloating, but still, exciting! This morning I finally hit the 20lb mark for total pounds lost from my highest weight. I will do my official weigh in this Friday and post numbers, but I'm so happy to be finishing this month strong!7

@iloveeggnog Sorry, your knee is sore! Hope it heals quickly! And what a nsv to fit into the medium size jacket!! I think it takes a while for our brains to adjust to significant weight loss! I know it takes our brains a while. I keep laying my shirts on the folder and thinking, "I can't possibly be in that small a shirt!" or "I can't possibly fit in pants that small!" but yes, I have been, that's why they were in the wash!7

Still fighting to make it into the lower 240s – keeping calories low. I have been getting more stairs in since my art room is in the basement. It is coming along. I have 5 boxes of kids art supplies ready to donate stacked by the door. We need to set up a desk this weekend. I plan to make chili today. I will try to get to some hallway clean up in the basement the rest of the week.

Small victory today... I wanted a donut with my mocha latte... I tried to restrain but had one anyways... the victory was I LOGGED IT!!! I am over my calories but the day isnt over yet so time for exercise. I must be honest with myself and all of you so I can make the changes I need. No more hiding from self inflicted shame.10

@kmc55 - I hope this is true for you too: I had an enormous about of shame about my weight before I started posting in this thread. Once I announced to everyone and their brother my weight in this thread, the shame disappeared. Shame abhors sunlight. Once we shine a bright light on our situation, it's difficult to feel shame, and easier to repair a situation we no longer wish to tolerate. Best of luck to you in your weight loss. You taking all the right steps.8
