@marisap2010 and @quilteryoyo - I tried setting the pace alerts low and high only once I think, and the constant buzzing drove me insane. It is way too hard for me to maintain a tight pace range, I can image the heart rate is harder still with the delayed reaction to speeding up or slowing down. But sounds like a good workout plan from Garmin.

Speaking of Garmins, my new Forerunner 645 is way fancier than my old 235, but we have not quite figured each other out yet. The treadmill calibration is still not right but now it's in the opposite direction of being too slow rather than too fast on pace. Eventually hopefully it will land on something semi-accurate. Then this morning after my treadmill warmup run I did strength training class. I didn't record anything on the watch during strength but when I connected to the app and uploaded data, it detected that I had done an activity with it's "MoveIQ" - but somehow it thinks I was swimming. LOL. I was doing an interval workout on the rower so I guess that motion read as swimming to it. It's trying.

@kgirlhart how’s the new job? Based on your mileage I wouldn’t bother really with a taper, maybe just adjust to a short shake out or nothing the day before. You have been doing 6 then banging out a long double digit with no problem.
@rheddmobile we have a 5K race here that goes through the Botanical Gardens when the Christmas display is up, it’s usually a ride through thing. It’s a lot of fun and they play Christmas music through the whole thing. I have to say (nothing against your bells LOL) but that makes me nuts along with others who play their music like we all want to hear it.
@quilteryoyo glad you have a date for your surgery so now you know on the 5th you’ll be well on the way to recovery.
Thanks @noblsheep once it becomes routine it’s not bad, I know if I leave running until after work I don’t get there. It’s also so quiet when the rest of the world is still asleep.
Wow @Mari33a I’m sorry to hear about the lockdown

@katharmonic It is hard for me to maintain a pace too, with all of the hills around here. But, I still enjoy the ability to enter my own workouts into the watch so I don't have to remember which interval I'm on while trying not to die. LOL Love your description of how your new Garmin is "trying." At least swimming and rowing are both water sports, so it had that much right.
@Tramboman The key word there is "could." You did it.

Tempo run today. It was pretty short though, which is good. The humidity is extreme this week and it just sucks the energy out of me. These last few morning runs have been a little hard.
Last night, I finally tested out for lead climbing! That's where you are clipping yourself into the wall as you climb up the route. I could have done it a long time ago but my husband and I were content on top rope. However, my daughter is getting to the age group where they compete on lead and we also want to be able to climb more outside. So, getting some practice in is important.6 -
@Mari33a Sorry to hear about the lockdown - you’re in Ireland, is that right? Cases over there are so scary right now.
@polskagirl01 every time you mention the attack hamsters I can’t help giggling! So I looked them up and on YouTube there is a video of a couple of young men trying to shoo one out of the road and it straight up savages them, one guy’s hand is bleeding and he ends up carrying it to safety on the end of a shoe when it locks on with its tiny jaws like a vicious pit bull! In between it is leaping through the air at them like the vorpal bunny from Monty Python. Holy cow I had no idea!7 -
Wednesday finally back to running 8 miles without a walk break! That was my goal for October and I did it, although I felt like I was crawling along for the last two miles. For some reason the jump between seven and eight miles is exponentially more difficult for me, it’s ridiculous.
Ran on the Greenline. It was hot, 82 by the time we finished. But lovely, crisp blue skies with golden leaves floating down.9 -
Peeping in to say I have 73.9 October miles so far. 26.1 to go.
My doctor's appointment went well yesterday. My numbers are all good. He was very pleased to see my weight where it is -- he mentioned too many other patients have been huddled up and eating baked bread for the last 6 months. lol. Good news for someone about to turn 53. ( @katharmonic my b'day is 11/4, too!)9 -
4AM is starting to feel like something a normal person would do. Running doubles today because I don't want to tomorrow - it's Friday and therefore, I work ten hours then drive the kids to see their dad, which is a total of two hours, right after work. I won't be home til around 8:30PM, so I'll lift, but I'm not running doubles AND lifting AND driving tomorrow.
The good news is both the coach and I can edit the plan so that it fits my schedule.
This morning was fun, though I had dinner and watched Army of Darkness last night and ate THREE PLATES of pasta. THREE PLATES. I guess I was hungry. *shrug*
Only issue i have this morning is that I am very tired and I think I need more food and more water. I'm eating now and just grabbed a fresh bottle of water so I should be feeling more like me soon.
I am ready for tonight's run - just thirty minutes and I am much nicer and much faster in the evenings.5 -
@rheddmobile Congratulations on reaching your goal of running 8 miles without a break. You are doing fantastic!

This morning was my last run before the virtual marathon on Sunday. It will be so weird not running on Saturday morning. What does the rest of the world do?
@quilteryoyo – I heard yesterday that Ballad in Kingsport was not doing any elective surgeries after Monday so that it could re-direct it’s resources to C-battle since our numbers have increased so much. I wondered if your surgery was considered “elective” and whether JC would follow Kingsport.
@Mari33a – I read about Ireland’s lockdown yesterday. Glad you made it to Scotland for a few days. I was there last year and loved it. Was supposed to travel to Ireland this year, but….Praying that the travel agent we used there is still in business when all this is over since they won’t issue a refund.
Congratulations on your climbing achievement @martaindale and for good results at the doctor’s appointment @WandaVaughn!

I love a lazy Saturday morning! I usually get up before the rest of my family anyway, so I have a cup or 2 of coffee in the peace and quiet. Saturday is not a day I meal prep for, so I use it to fill my cravings. So, I figure out what my soul desires for breakfast and take the time to cook it. Then watch whatever TV I want for a bit. It's amazing!2 -
Morning guys. Sorry to hear about extended lockdowns for people, and technology being both fun and annoying!!
I was up at 545 this morning, for a RUN! Hehe. Running twice a week is better than not running lol. Im using the workout function on my watch, so made a workout for warmup till lap button pressed, then 4 min run, 2 min recovery 5 times. It's really handy having it, so I don't have to keep checking the time as I go, and lose track of what interval I'm on etc etc. Once I figured it out, it was easy but took a bit to figure it out haha.
Calf has been good for the last few days, no twinges. That 2 steps forward, 1 step back continues to trend. It's definitely getting better.
I got some new shoes at the beginning of the week, so now have 2 pairs in rotation. We have a lot of sales this weekend, due to a holiday on Monday. Do I need another pair?? My oldest pair I got in March, so only wore for 2 months before my injury and was in rotation with 3 pairs, so haven't done a huge amount of milage, but also age, they are 7 months old...6 -
@avidkeo You can always use another pair of shoes! Especially if they are on sale. You'll be racking up the miles in no time!!2
-
@Teresa502 I had not heard that about Kingsport, but, since it is all Ballad, makes me wonder. No one has called to tell me it is postponed. I would think my surgery would NOT be considered elective - it's possible it could be postponed, but it's not like it isn't medically necessary. I know the C numbers in my county are really going up here the last week or so. Good luck with the virtual marathon on Sunday! You'll do great!

@Teresa502 Good luck on your race! I don't know what the rest of the world does on Saturdays, lol. Even on weekends that I have my kids, I will fit in a run on Saturday. Then the rest of the day is for them. 2020 has really not been great for that though; We used to have so much fun.... We do still watch movies and crack jokes and play with legos, etc. My daughter is an artistic genius as well, so she'll ask me what I think of her art or show me the latest. Still. I have not gone a Saturday without a run in a very, very long time! Good luck! I'm sure you'll find something to do! What if you made it a self-care day?! My mom used to do that. Do her nails, take a long bath, watch her favorite shows, eat her favorite food.
@Avidkeo I am eyeing a new pair of shoes too. Because I need em. I will need probably another pair of trail shoes before the 100 miler in December too, but at 4am I am running on roads, so I'm eyeing road shoes at the moment. I have some that are all right, but the Mizuno's need replaced badly.
@quilteryoyo I hope your surgery is not postponed. For your sake, i want it to be behind you as soon as possible.
@Mari33a So sorry about the lockdown. I don't know what our government is doing. Our cases are on the rise real bad too. I just don't know anymore...
*Sigh* IT IS ALMOST FRIDAY.5 -
Last Saturday during my race my right arch starting bothering me. It was fine Sunday (walk), Monday (run), then Tuesday as we were walking the Grand Canyon it started up again. Went on our big hike Wednesday. Sore on the way down, not as much hiking back up.
I am blaming my tight calf. I noticed it was getting tight/tired on my last long run (10 miles on the trail) and now plantar fasciitis is back. Gonna ice, stretch, and rest today and tomorrow then attempt my 11 miles on Saturday.7 -

Oh, we're birthday twins! I'm going to be 52, so we're right there together! Glad your doctor's appointment went well and great job keeping on top of your health.
BTW, Nov 4 is also my personal trainer's birthday and most of the time I carefully avoid thinking about the fact that I am a full 20 years older than him, but sometimes I think, well good for me for not completely dying trying to do the things he wants me to do.
@Teresa502 I've been thinking about you and your virtual MCM. Best of luck this weekend! I have a friend here running hers this weekend too. Two years ago when I was running that race in person I was a wreck at this point thinking about actually running 26.2. Wishing you all the strength and endurance - have a great race! I think you'll enjoy those Saturdays free from super long runs.
@martaindale great job on testing out on lead climbing. I want to work towards that and outdoor climbing too.
