@hamsterwheel6 Glad you are back. Great job on meeting your Oct goal. It was 28F here this morning! I'm not ready for that either. It's supposed to get back up in the 70's by Saturday. No wonder we all get sinus infections this time of year.
Yes! It’s too soon for this mess lol. Thank goodness we have our dreadmills, ha! Did I read your surgery was postponed? I think I did. Sorry about that. Has to be nerve wracking getting all psyched and ready to go through it and then have to wait. Glad you are able to run though!

@polskagirl01 I'm sure that workout was good for you. I reminds me of the story where the man gets a job for 1 cent for the first day, but it doubles every day. By day 30 he has made $5,368,709.12. I can imagine that pace got fast pretty quickly.
Yes @hamsterwheel6 . It got postponed - after I did all of the pre-op stuff, including a CoVID test. I am negative, but have to quarantine until we know for sure that I won't be able to have the surgery within the 2 week timeframe that the bloodwork is good. They will make the decision on a week by week basis, so it is nerve wracking. Being able to continue to run does help.5 -

5/90 miles
11/2: 5 miles
I had the day off today, so I was able to take advantage of the gorgeous mid morning weather. There is a waterway that I like to run along but don’t do it often because it’s easier and faster to run from my house. If I can it’s nice to take the time and run someplace different. Speed work Monday was a fartlek workout, which on this plan just seems to be long intervals. Today was a mile warm-up then 4 sets of 5:00 fast and 3:00 slow with a mile of cool down. The run felt great.
I ended up taking an extra rest day this weekend and I can tell the difference today. I need to eat more. It’s not just my mileage ramping up that is making me tired. I did this last year and didn’t feel this wiped. I tapered back my meal plan over the summer when the climbing gyms were closed and I wasn’t running much and I never really adjusted it back. I’m almost certain that’s what it going on. So, this week I am eating an extra snack on days I am running and if I get hungry.
I spent the good part of a year retraining my eating habits and trying to create a real, sustainable lifestyle change. It’s now been another couple of years since I lost the weight and I have maintained it pretty easily. But I still feel like I have to be aware because I know I can’t just leave behind decades of poor eating habits in 1 year. I hope at some point this change becomes more of a habit than all the bad habits I brought from my childhood. I am more comfortable at this weight in clothes and my sports are so much easier but at the same time I just don’t want to feel like I am perpetually monitoring food/weight. I hadn’t actually thought about any of this in a while but my recent struggles with hard runs and feeling like I have no energy are forcing me to take a close look at my relationship with food again.
Sorry for rambling, but I think this group has more people that understand this than I have in my “real” life. I want to be able to trust myself and listen to my body and all that. I know the words, but it is easier said than done. At my core I am worried about falling back into old habits.10 -
@ContraryMaryMary - I totally understand where you are coming from. I have those races (certainly not as fast as you though) where I trained and planned for a specific race only to have something happen that prevented it even if still getting a PR, it wasn't what I wanted to do. But then you have to reflect back and say ok it wasn't exactly what I wanted to do but I did make improvements and I do know a lot more now than before about what I need to do to make it happen. You'll get there I have no doubt! Congratulation on a great race and a PR!
I am so envious of the unperson races! Hoping for next year here!
@martaindale - love your daughter and her costume! So cute! Also your house is beautiful and I love all the decorations!
@hamsterwheel6 - good to have you back! The peloton app does make it go by faster!
I got my first run of the month in this morning. Fortunately we are having cool mornings (low 60's) despite the return of the hot days. This week we will be back in the 90's but by the weekend they are saying 50's and 60's and maybe some rain. Yay!
I did a 45 min 'fun run' with the Peloton app but I couldn't do the sprints they sprinkled in because my glute is still bothering me. I did as much as I could keeping it easy to moderate and walking if my glute started to talk too much. We have agility class tonight and I will be taking it careful so I don't turn and do anything to make things worse. Tomorrow is a cross training day which should help too.

Ugh. Sorry. But now you get to run, silver lining, lol1 -
@shanaber those fun runs aren’t really all that fun lol are they. Those pushes and sprints! Kidding aside yes I do enjoy them. Who is your favorite instructor so far? Mine is Matty M he cracks me up. His Halloween tread run Is hysterical. Of course I like Becs, Andy, Robin, Matt, Olivia lol. They all have their own ways.
Be careful with glutes and as they love to say on Peloton, you do you.2 -
You guys are all so awesome. Thanks so much for the support and understanding. I’m feeling better about my efforts and am looking forward to my next event. Also curious as to what my coach will say when we debrief on Friday.
About to head out for a 30 minute run soon to see how the body feels.4 -
@ContraryMaryMary - I’m glad you’re feeling better. You should be really proud of smashing your PR, and knowing that next time you could do even better with just a few tactic tweaks! Amazing job, I’m in awe of that time!
@martaindale - I can really relate to lots of what you said. Seems like you’re doing pretty well though and are slowly getting to a place of balance. Hope I can follow you there!
I kicked off my month this morning with 4 miles on the treadmill. Was hoping for 5 miles outside but there was a gale our first thing this morning.

Hello all! Welcome to November a couple of days late!
I went hiking on Saturday 10/31 for one last big hike of the season (report below) so I had to once again get my run in during the hike. This time I took OFF the spikes, and it was a bit shorter overall, and still in daylight so it went better.
Sunday after the hike I thought would be a terrible run, but ended up being pretty good. I ran in Lake Placid for two laps around Mirror Lake right in town. I actually had a sub 10-minute mile which shocked me. Today we drove back from our lovely weekend and I got home and ran shortly after to get that out of the way. It started out sluggish but I picked up the pace each mile and ended up once again just under 10 min mile.
The whole weekend was pretty special - my friends and I rented a fabulous house with a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains, which you could sit in the hot tub and stare at as long as you wanted. We hiked the talledst of the Adirondack peaks, which is the highest in New York state - Mt. Marcy. Elevation is 5344 feet. This was my friend's 46 of 46 ADK high peaks completed so it was a huge celebration for her and for all of. We had a nearly 11 hour hike but the weather was beautiful blue skies and not that terribly cold. Lots of ice around but the frozen and snowy conditions were so much better than last week's mud and water slog. I'll just post a few pictures because it was so beautiful, I can't describe. We had a great little celebration at the summit, featuring a shot of alcohol each, which really warmed up the chest and got us a little pep toward heading down. We started just before 6 am, summitted about 11 am, and I finished at 4:37 pm, so just under 11 hours. I ran the last 1.76 miles out to get my run in - I didn't want to stop because I didn't know if I could get started again so I exceeded the 15 minutes I planned. I waited for the rest of my group to get back, just exhausted and my feet throbbing, but a big smile on my face overall. The best part was we could just take a short drive back to our AirBnB fabulous house and sit in the hot tub all evening to recover.
Many pics:

Did the bare minimum 5 miles this morning. Colder that I like (46F), but with long sleeves, gloves, and tights it wasn't TOO bad. Light wind was the saving grace.

@katharmonic Another amazing weekend. The pictures are beautiful! Glad you stayed there this time. It sounds heavenly.
Welcome @aundrealuczak1991 . Maybe the typo was trying to tell you something.
@polskagirl01 I see what you mean. It is different running those paces for 1 minute vs 10 or so.3 -
11/3 – 5.03 miles

It was a brisk 28F when I went out this morning but it was a beautiful, clear morning. The horizon was a pretty pink, orange and blue and it was so pretty seeing the sun come up while seeing the moon still up high in the sky. Schools are closed here for 2 weeks for deep cleaning so I only saw birds, cows and a couple of horses until my last mile when a neighbor passed in his truck. He has four small children so I stopped him to ask if I could give them my leftover Halloween candy and he said that would be great. So thank goodness I can get that out of the house! We usually have over 100 trick-or-treaters but only 28 this year.
@ContraryMaryMary – You rocked that half marathon! Congrats on your PB – I love your dedication and determination!
@hamsterwheel6 – Good to see you and I’m in awe that you could stay on a treadmill for 8 miles!
@shanaber – I used the free Peloton app earlier this year but my trial period elapsed. Can you get another even if you did it earlier?
@katharmonic – What a fabulous and well-deserved weekend you had! Gorgeous views from the summit!
You’re daughter is so cute @martaindale!
Welcome @aundrealuczak1991! I like your reasoning!

I haven't had a trick-or-treater in 28 years, but I always get candy for them and make sure it's edible prior to Halloween.6 -

Sunny and upper 30s F today. Still some snow on the north side of my roof. Probably could have gotten away with shorts and long sleeved tech shirt, but went with winter gear and was a little warm at the end.
Started resistance band training yesterday; plan to do yoga later today.

Fell behind a bit here...
Congrats @ContraryMaryMary! That is a great PB but I get your disappointment. I think we all have A, B, and C goals for races and when we don't hit A we are annoyed.
I am back on the I want to run an ultra train again. I printed an 18-week plan and (kind of) started this week. There's a 50k on March 6th I'm thinking about. I figure I can try and if needed drop to 30k (or other distance).5
