Ran 5k in the woods before work.
Work/COVID stuff:COVID-ified event meant more prep work so that we could give out meals in takeout boxes - instead of the usual 2-hour Street Church event with tents, music, speakers and conversation... we got it done in 18 minutes across a barrier, with masks, gloves, sanitizer & distance. This was a test-run to see if we could do it safely, and I think it worked.November Goal - 100 Miles

Weather is lovely here today. It's like calm between the storms. I was a full minute faster on my run today and I'm only saying this because on the speed colour thing Garmin had the whole run BLUE7 -

Absolutely perfect weather this morning. Since I ran yesterday I planned to just run an easy long run and go by feel. Not trying to push my pace at all. I still managed to come in fast enough to get several Strava segment PR's and maintain a steady pace. And it just felt good. It never got hard. I feel like I'm really seeing the payoff for the summer running!7 -
Hope all of you racing today have great weather and stay safe!
Add me to the list of perfect running weather for this mornings run. 55F and light breeze. After a not so great week, this long run is what I needed. Didn't set out to do my longest run of the year, but felt pretty good after 12 miles, and was in the middle of a podcast that I wanted to finish, so just kept going. Took a couple short walk breaks during water breaks, but still ended up with 16 miles and a 9:30/mi pace. Maybe I'll get a 20 miler in before the end of the year.

Exciting for @quilteryoyo and @teresa502 to meet up today at a race! Can't wait to hear about it!
Congrats on the great runs in beautiful weather today @Mari33a, @martaindale and @Scott6255! Nice job Scott on the longest run of the year!

I also benefited from the extra super nice weather today. It was 66 degrees when I started at 9 am and I was very glad I had elected to go with shorts and a tank with a long sleeve over. I took the long sleeve off almost immediately. My friend had decided this week to do her virtual marathon today (her race was only recently cancelled), so several of us ran parts of it with her to help out. I agreed to the later legs of it because I was happy to sleep in and I was hoping she wouldn't be too speedy for me in the second half. I really thought I would join her for no more than 10 miles, but when I started up with her she still needed almost 15. I hung in there for 13.1 and called it my own virtual half (which I won ). When I was at 10 miles, another friend and I (the only 2 left at this point) decided we could tag team it for the last bit, so she took a short rest and refuel which I ran my last 3.1 and then I handed off to her to finish while I stretched and recovered. I stuck around to cheer on the finish. I was very proud of my friend for gutting out the 26.2 outside of a race environment. It's not easy and she certainly struggled with it more than she thought she would.
And that's my longest run since May and only the second of that distance for the year.

Awesome stuff @martaindale, I love runs like this. Good to see results from your hard work.
@Mari33a, technology is there to wind us up! Great running regardless of what the silly watch says!
I have complete faith you’ll get your 20 miler @Scott6255, seems all you need is great weather and a long enough podcast!
I’m about to head out for my Sunday run in classic spring weather - it’s super windy and brilliant sunshine right now but will probably start raining soon! So glad we didn’t have this last weekend!

Great runs everyone! And excited for all of you managing to do actual races!!
Was a beautiful of cold morning here in London, and I managed 10km. Have also done lots of cleaning and reorganising at home and got in a home dance workout with the kids, so all in all a good day. If the weather is good tomorrow I will run again- shorter distance though, so I can fit in some strength training as well. Determined to get back into shape and feel better!
November total: 16.5m
November goal: 60m
2/11: 4m
3/11: Strength training plus 1.25m on treadmill
5/11: 5m
7/11: 6.25m
Jan - Oct: 666.8 miles5 -
Congrats to the racers!
As apolitical as I could make it and still tell the story - hopefully good enough
Did speedwork this morning and my husband and I were finishing up when we heard cars going crazy honking in the distance and then a car speeding down the little train access road honking constantly. We were like, what the heck? And people were hanging out of the windows shouting about the election results to everyone they passed. I didn’t realize how completely stressed I was until I suddenly wasn’t. You could hear people all up and down the road start whooping and screaming as the car went by. Based on yard signs I would have guessed that as many people in that neighborhood would be disappointed as happy but it sounded like all the runners and cyclists were happy at least!
Beautiful day, absolutely perfect weather.10 -

11/1 Ran 3.0 miles – Walked 1.0 mile - Treadmill
11/2 Ran 3.0 miles – Walked 1.0 mile – Treadmill
11/3 Rest day – 11,626 steps
11/4 Ran 3.0 miles – Walked 1.0 mile – Treadmill
11/5 Helped saw wood – 11,266 steps
11/6 Ran 3.0 miles – Walked 1.50 miles – Field and Driveway laps
11/7 Roan Mountain 10K – According to Garmin, I actually did 6.33 miles
Officially, I walked the Roan Mountain 10K today. I ran about half of it, maybe not quite, and walked the rest...as did the other "walkers." I managed to finish in 1:23:44 minutes (officially it was 1:24:00) and was the first walker to cross the finish line. Well, actually, I was the first person to cross the finish line since those who were running the race started an hour later. That will probably never, ever happen again.
Since I am not wanting to push it right now, my plan was to just take it easy and enjoy the gorgeous day in the mountains. It was 61°F and sunny when we started out at 10:00. The first couple of miles of this course are down hill. I probably ran, easy pace, at least 1.5 miles of that. Then came the hills - some gently rolling and one that was a killer - so steep. I walked up the hills and, when I just couldn't contain myself any longer, ran down the other side. I also stopped to take some pictures along the way. It was really nice to not worry about pace and just enjoy being outside and moving. (Hopefully @Teresa502 will have a better race report than I.)
Unfortunately, I didn't get mile split times. I noticed that my Garmin didn't give me an indication when I passed the 1 mile mark, or any of the others. I was hoping the splits were there in the data, but NO. Somehow...and I know I didn't do it, the auto lap had gotten turned off.
And, one of the best parts, I got to meet @Teresa502 in person and also her friend Sarah. Very nice people, as I expected.
View of the mountains from the road.
I think this was almost at the top of the biggest hill.
The mountain stream that ran beside some of the course.
Another of the stream.
Post race picture of me with @Teresa502 . In case you are worried about us not social distancing, we were holding our breath.12 -
Went on a nice, leisurely 4ish mile hike with a friend today. It rained on my 2 hour drive there but fortunately eased up while we were out. It created a bit of mud on the mostly red clay paths.7

11/3 – 5.03 miles
11/4 – 4.08 miles
11/5 – 4.06 miles
11/7 – 6.25 miles
19.42 of 120 miles
It was a long race day today for a short race, but I got to meet @quilteryoyo! Ya’ll she is just the cutest and so sweet! I helped with registration for the Roan Mountain 10k from 9 am to right before the start at 11:00 am. I’m used to running early in the morning so running at 11:00 seemed so late! This race is part of the Tennessee State Running Tour and is supposed to be the second hardest of all their races. It certainly had some hills in it. I ended up with a 1:08 finish time and was quite happy with that considering the hills.
Congrats @katharmonic on winning your virtual half! 😊
@Scott6255 – Wahoo on that long run and look at the pace!
Glad everyone is getting out and enjoying the weekend!

Race report: Today I got to run a real, in-person race. The weather was perfect. It was 57°F at the start and 63°F at the finish. The sun was shining and there was enough breeze to be comfortable but not a lot of wind. The race was out at Possum Kingdom Lake which is a hilly area so it is really pretty, but the course is pretty flat and you really just see the hills in the distance. There was some fall foliage which was nice because even though I only live about 40 minutes away we are further west and don't get much fall colors. So it was a really lovely run.
The race started at 7:00 am and the sun had just come up. I started towards the front. It was a small race and there weren't any corrals. I probably went out a little fast, but I was feeling good. The fastest runners pulled out in front of me and it only took about half a mile before they were far enough ahead that I would never be able to catch up. But that was ok with me. I never expected to be one of the top finishers. I was just hoping to beat my PR and place in my age group. I did notice that there was only one woman ahead of me so I was hoping that no one would catch me. I really ran the race by myself. For most of the race I about halfway between the fast group the next wave. I was feeling really good and kind of zipping along.
My first mile was my fastest at 9:14. The next four were 9:26, 9:39 and 9:48 and 9:48. I was still feeling great and no one had passed me. Miles 6, 7 and 8 and 9 were 9:45, 9:30 and 9:44 and 9:44. I couldn't believe I had held a pace under 10 minutes but I was still feeling good. I could hear someone behind me though and in mile 9 I was passed by another runner. It was a man though and he was by himself, so I still only had one woman ahead of me.
I was starting to slow a little and ran mile 10 in 9:59. I got down to 9:55 for mile 11 but I was starting to get tired. I was still far enough ahead of the next runners that I wasn't too worried about it. I finished mile 12 in 10:08 and passed the last aid station. Up until mile 12 it had been an almost perfect race. But then I started getting some cramping in my right calf. Nothing too terrible but annoying. So I slowed a little. The runners behind me were still far enough away that I didn't think they would catch me. And then I passed my turn. It wasn't well marked. And I was starting to think I was going the wrong way but I looked ahead and saw the man who had passed me so I kept going. But it turned out that he had missed the turn too as did the two women behind me. We were all able to correct though and no other runners passed us. We did end up running 13.51 miles though. I finished mile 13 in 10:11 and it took me 5:08 to run the last half mile. By that time I was a little disappointed that I had missed the turn and run long, plus I was having more cramps in my calf. The last part of the course goes through the parking lot which is a gravel/dirt road. It felt hard to run on it even though it was softer than asphalt. But by then I could see my husband cheering me on and that gave me the extra push I needed.
I was really excited that I finished in 2:11:54 which was a PR for me. That was actually for 13.51 miles. Garmin gave me 2:07 for 13.1. But either way it was a PR. The two women behind me were at 2:13 and got 1st and 2nd in their age group (30-39). The next runner behind them finished in 2:17 so I guess running a little long didn't hurt us in the end.
I ended up with a PR and as Overall Masters Female, 2nd overall female and 13th runner overall. So all in all I am really happy about it. I am a bit disappointed that my official pace shows 10:04 which is what it would be for 13.1, but for 13.5 my pace was actually 9.46 which is really fast for me. But I am really happy about how it went.
Great running everyone! Seems like everyone had great running weather this weekend.
Beautiful hike @marisap2010!
Great race @quilteryoyo and @teresa502. Beautiful pictures and so cool that you two were able to meet.
@rheddmobile On our way home from the race we saw a campaign flag flying at half mast. I doubt we'll hear much celebration around here. I'm just hoping they will stop flying the flags now.

Hooray for real races and running with other people @quilteryoyo @Teresa502 meeting up, Congratulations @kgirlhart on the PR and placement awards, and also for @katharmonic pacing your friend and @Scott6255 on your longest run of the year!
So many of you are running in some really pretty places. I'm glad we can share the pictures and positive stuff here2 -
Congratulations @kgirlhart! Very impressive splits and wahoo for the PR! You worked so hard for your goal and you made it! Sorry the race ended up being long. We were lucky enough in the Roan Mountain 10k that volunteers were at every turn directing us. Unfortunately, because of the orange alert for Tennessee, we didn't have any aid stations on the course, awards at the end of the race or even water at the end, so it was a pretty low key event. I debated about carrying my handheld water bottle since it was only 6 miles but I'm glad I did as it got pretty warm at mid-day.3

So exciting that @quilteryoyo and @Teresa502 were able to meet!
@kgirlhart Congrats on your race! Awesome job!
@quilteryoyo My hike was at Providence Canyon State Park in Georgia.0 -
Congratulations @kgirlhart ! Very impressive race results! Especially having missed the turn. Love all the swag and other pictures, especially the one showing your husband cheering for you at the end!
@marisap2010 Humm. Thanks for letting me know. I didn't know anyplace like that existed in GA. It reminds me of the deserts out West. I'll have to look it up and see how far it is from my family that lives in Adairsville. Edit: Looked it up and it's 3.5 hours away from them. That would be doable. Might have to put that on my bucket list.

@kgirlhart Congrats on your race! Awesome that you got a PR and Masters award, even running an extra half mile! We used to go scuba diving in Possum Kingdom lake all the time. Such a beautiful area.3

Well, the reason it exists is because in the 1800s, locals in the area had some poor farming practices that led to erosion - so it isn’t totally natural. Georgia clay and sand just like to wash away easily! However, it created some cool looking features, and they’ve put in about 10 miles of trails in and around it.3 -
Thanks @polskagirl01, @marisap2010
@quilteryoyo @Teresa502, @Tramboman and @Scott6255.
I am taking today as a well earned and much needed rest day. My legs are sore, but not as sore as I thought they would be when I went to bed last night. It is really windy today. I am glad that we raced yesterday when it was perfect.4 -
11/1 – 5 miles
11/2 – 10K Monday
11/3 – 3 miles with Champ
11/4 – rest day
11/5 – 10K
11/6 – 1 mile
11/7 – 9 (15K) Cathedral Caverns trail race
11/8 – 4 miles with Champ of recover
34 of 120 miles
I’ll have to come back and catch up on the thread, busy busy ha ha
Yesterday I ran an in person race a 15K trail race that the last ~1.5 miles is in a cavern. Last year I ran the 5K and enjoyed it, the 15K was pretty hard but I really enjoyed it. I did packet pick up before the start and missed my wave (people people come to pick up the night before in the future!), so I started with one of the 5Ks waves so I spent A LOT of time alone on the trail, but that’s okay. Results are not out yet, I told Skip I’d be thrilled with a 2:45 finish, and finished in 2:30 which included stopping to help a girl who fell and had no idea the elevation would be so hard. She was with a friend, but I stopped to check on her and to make sure they knew the options of getting off the course and giving them the race directors cell numbers in case they needed someone to come in and get her. I’m happy to say I saw her later and she finished (though she cut over a mile off the course but not completing a whole loop – but that’s okay).
Races:
335 of 335 miles Pinhoti Trail Challenge done - complete
40 of 250 miles Yuletide Madness

November goal - 60km
Progress to date:
November 2 – 4 km
November 3 – 4 km
November 4 – 4.2 km
November 7 – Killer core class with way too many squats (I can barely walk)
November 9 – 4.8 km
Glad for this group! Because my legs were so sore from yesterday's squat torture I almost didn't run. Then I remembered I had to log my kms! Great motivation.8 -
@skippygirlsmom You did great - beating your goal time by 15 minutes and stopping to help someone! Amazing! I had forgotten about that race. Glad it was held and you got to do it. Maybe next year I'll be there.
Way to get out there and get it done @April_M_2015 !2 -
@skippygirlsmom GREAT job on that 15K race! Sounds very cool to run in a cavern!1
