Sunny, mid 40s F, with little breeze. Robins must have read yesterday's post -- saw a bunch of them. First 3k felt pretty good, courtesy of yesterday's yoga. Last 3k legs felt tired, courtesy of yesterday's yoga. I should do yoga year around -- wish I wasn't so lazy and undisciplined.

Love the quote @Teresa502 !
@Tramboman I would not call you lazy and undisciplined! I think you are very consistent with your running. Better than I am.3 -
@Teresa502 love that quote. I’m going to go with the decreasing of those twitch muscles lol.
@Tramboman i want to be you when I grow up. consistently running and moving.
6.5 miles today on the treadmill. Headed to the mountains (Boone NC area) for a girls weekend. Hoping to get a good hike in.
Have a great one guys, and @kgirlhart good luck on your HM!4 -
13.1/90 miles
11/2: 5 miles
11/3: 3.1 miles
11/6: 5 miles
Another lovely midmorning run today. This is absolutely my favorite time of year.
I've really enjoyed reading about everyone's running journey. I started running at age 37 and I started at a true couch level! My initial goal was to get to the point that I could run 5k a few days a week. Most of my progress initially was just because I would get bored and need something to train for. So, I trained for a 10k. Then a HM. During that time I saw my pace naturally improve a little just because I started as such a beginner. Newby gains!! But I didn't really start training to improve my pace specifically until this last year. It is really rewarding to see improvement but I know that as a 40 year old, my window for improving pace wise is probably short.
Someone else mentioned trading distance for speed and I think there is definitely something to that. When I do trail runs with an ultra distance, the majority of the ultra runners appear to be my age and older. They move at a steady, respectable pace but they would certainly be considered slow in a road race. But in a trail ultra, they have a niche and seem to really enjoy it. I've always said I have no interest in doing a distance beyond a HM, but who knows. Maybe I'll be the old lady running Ultras!5 -
@katharmonic Happy belated birthday! Sorry I missed it!
@marisap2010 sorry about the news! Hope it gets better1 -
12k easy run today, planning about 5k tomorrow in the woods.
Can't keep up with the thread. Hugs/likes to all, and even if you think you're slow, you're definitely faster than you-on-the-couch6 -
Thanks for the kind words, @quilteryoyo and @hamsterwheel6 . Like speed, laziness and discipline are relative.2

11/1 Ran 3.0 miles – Walked 1.0 mile - Treadmill
11/2 Ran 3.0 miles – Walked 1.0 mile – Treadmill
11/3 Rest day – 11,626 steps
11/4 Ran 3.0 miles – Walked 1.0 mile – Treadmill
11/5 Helped saw wood – 11,266 steps
11/6 Ran 3.0 miles – Walked 1.50 miles – Field and Driveway laps
It was so nice today, I just had to run outside - 68°F at 2:00 pm, sunny, and no wind. I did a mile warmup walk with my dog into my neighbor's field and then did the rest as laps on the driveway. I tried to keep it an easy pace. Wound up with 12:40 min/mile. I'll take that.4 -
11/4: 1.6 miles
11/6: 1.5 miles + back and shoulders workout
Today was probably the most active day since giving birth to my first 10 months ago so I’m definitely feeling it but feeling good about myself. I did not want to run today but I’m glad I did.
Thanks for the support!
The mileage and pace on here is a little intimidating but also inspiring!

Hahahahaha @hamsterwheel6 I'm glad you're enjoying the Nevada posts. It's really all I can say about the election. I did post one Biden meme that was too funny not to post and I'm sure that a lot of people are making a lot of assumptions about who I voted for, and I'll never tell.
I will say... I voted with the best interest of the future in my heart.
But yeah. Making jokes is basically the only thing left to do.
Agree about @tramboman 's consistency. It is my favorite thing!
@marisap2010 reading my own posts makes me tired, lmao.
@quilteryoyo it all gets done just because it has to. What I have learned is that if I want different, I have to work different. Move different. Push harder. Steal the time if I have to (I do have to).
Decent run this morning - track workout. The school across the street won't let me use their track because of "liability reasons," so at dinner last night I had to explain to the kids that I would be leaving to drive four minutes away at 4am but I'd be back.
I was pretty anxious about this particular workout because I was supposed to be super duper focused on time and pace. So basically, for an ultra runner, that's impossible. I will never be "fast." I will never win a 5k. It's just not what we do. We go really, really far just to do it.
But guess what! I ran almost five minutes with an average 10:02 and my max pace was 7:33!
So maybe, just maybe.
I do think the variety in workouts and training will be good overall. I will learn to be a jack of all trades.
And now I am exhausted. It is almost five and the kids go to their dad's for two days this weekend and I could not be more excited because they are being *kitten*.
So today is a doubles day. After I get done driving for two hours, I have another run tonight. Which may sound terrible but Lord, do I need it.5 -
@Kimbeers Don't let the paces and distances some people post intimidate you at all. It took time to build to those levels. You are doing great. Just concentrate on being consistent and you'll get there too!
@Camaramandy648 Is the school a public school? I would think they would "have" to let you use it if it is, but what do I know? You did great on your workout. Those are fantastic paces. The varied workouts will improve your pace too - as does just running a lot at an easy pace. I know you read a lot about running. Have you ever read 80/20 Running by Matt Fitzgerald? He's big on running 80% of your runs at an easy pace. That was the HM plan I was following before I got sidetracked.2 -
Yeah, ALL of the tracks at our public schools are behind locked gates. I don't understand what the liability is ¯\_(ツ)_/¯4
-
I signed up the the Roan Mountain 10K in the morning, @Teresa502 . I was going to message you, but apparently we aren't friends. I am going to send you a friend request. I am going to do the "walk" at 10. I hope I will see you there.5
-
Thanks @hamsterwheel6! I'm pretty excited for the race tomorrow. The temperature should be in the low to mid 50's in the morning. I'm hoping to be done before it gets into the 60's but I don't mind running in the low 60's. The weather forecast for tomorrow is what I consider perfect running weather.
I started running 4 years ago in October when I was 48. So far I have been improving my times. I hope that will continue for a while, but honestly I just run because I can and I love it. At this point there are plenty of people faster than me and some who are slower. I am hoping for PR tomorrow. I guess we will see how it goes.3 -
November Goal 63ish miles
11/1 off
11/2 lazy
11/3 4.12
11/4 4.08
11/5 snorkel 1 hourMoorish Idol.....it was about the only shot I got before my moderately expensive, relatively new rated to 20 feet underwater camera, within its rated to 150 feet underwater case....took on water and died11/6 2.85
(the good news is that the rice in a bag trick seems to have worked.....)
Total 11.05
I started running almost 8 years ago, just before I turned 60, and for my birthday that year ran a whole mile nonstop. Downhill. I will never make a 5k in 30 minutes, but as someone up there ^ said, sometimes we give up speed for distance and I have at least 8 half marathons under my belt, a wall full of "participant" medals.....including a respectable number of age group wins and placements and the knowledge that I can pull off a 10k at any time. I think our dear @MobyCarp used to say he kept himself at a level where he could run a half with no preparation.....I'm not there, but I'm happy where I am.
Upcoming and current races:
Asics World Ekiden Virtual Relay (5k leg) 11/11/20

That’s awesome @quilteryoyo! I will be working at the registration table. Hopefully we will recognize each other! (I found your friend request this morning and accepted it.)3 -
Yesterday’s scheduled run was a steady state run at a 8:43-9:03 pace for 10 minutes. With warmup and cool down, I ran 2.83 miles.
Today, I will be hiking instead of running. One of my best friends lives about 4 hours away, so we decided to meet in the middle for the day.
11/1: 4.43
11/4: 2.56
11/6: 2.83

@Teresa502 I plan to wear my Scooby Doo buff. I bet I'll be the only one there with that one on. I'm going to try to be there around 9:30. Are you going to run too?
Enjoy your day @marisap2010 !2 -
