You all are in my thoughts & prayers 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼! As a nurse I understand all the health issues. I wish the COVID would just go away & life back to normal. Stay safe & stay Positive.4

Evelyn - I so miss crafting days, I hope you don’t need the winter boots on your car.
Machka - woohoo on the walking!
Lisa - I hope your daughter and family gets to be there. We had the discussion at work today about weighing the benefits against the risks and trying to make the best decisions.
Heather - I hope your hubby gets some help from the doctor.
Allie - I hope you don’t have too long to stay in the hospital and they fix you up soon. Just read the update, I think I would have a good cry too. I hope your family gathers around and helps you now. You’ll be in my prayers.
Viv - sorry to hear about your roof.
Barbara- it’s scary how fast this virus spreads, hopefully your library staff and patrons all have no positive test results.
I think I would be avoiding the soup suppers myself.
Pip - I would hope that any family members would be respectful of your decision to stay safe. I understand that that’s not how it always works though.
Michele - cute puzzle
Rebecca - “who shot JR” was Dallas, was it Linda Grey the actress though? I watched that series with my Grandmother or parents every Friday night!
Thank you all for the compliments on the stocking.
What’s happening in my world regarding Covid.I feel I can share this as it is posted on our homes FB page. We have one whole wing 50 residents in isolation since Sunday when one of our workers husband’s tested positive. She was at work on Friday so we are being cautious and taking steps to hopefully isolate it if it is in there. Yeah t will be a couple more days before any test results come back. All residents have been given a test and all staff on that wing had mandatory tests. The rest of us were asked to voluntarily have tests. I had mine today. One of my coworkers asked me why since I work in the office and not with the residents and I said that I am trying to do everything I am asked and being very cautious as I would expect that from the staff at my Mom’s home. I have to believe they are following all protocols just like me to keep my Mom safe.
I am watching some stupid show on TV as that is what Rodger is watching it’s one of those Expedition Unknown or some such thing. I find them all very annoying. He will be going to bed in an hour and I’ll watch This is Us. Then something light before going to bed myself.

We had a great plan this morning to get out early and go to Costco the minute they opened for senior hours, grab the five things on our list and get out. Then go to the bank and go through the drive through to get some cash, they take glass to recycling, and end up at the library to get a book at the curbside pickup. Just before I got home from walking the dogs, the power went out. We decided to go out anyway in case the power outage didn't reach all the way into town. The whole town was without power so we dropped off the glass recycling and came home. Just as I was making a plan of what to do without electricity, the power came back on but it was too late to go early to Costco so we stayed home. In the afternoon when Jake went for his 2PM haircut appointment, he found the salon was closed. Tomorrow the dogs are scheduled for grooming but we have no way to be sure if they will be open or not.
Allie, you have strong faith and a good family support. How great that the doctors finally found out what was wrong and will be able to fix things for you.
We'll just keep taking life one day at a time.

Fae – that’s what I thought! But those three things at the top are what threw me off. How do you display them I wonder? To put them on a fan? Just two blades? I could understand four, but two??? How do you hang them with those screw-things at top?
Just got back from them doc’s. what I said felt like a plantar wart he doesn’t think is a wart. Now I do remember years back when I had one you could see a tiny black dot where the wart was, and there isn’t one this time. He thinks it’s more of a callous so he’s sending me to a podiatrist. He think the callous is due to one of my toes bending (the callous is on the ball of my foot). What he thinks they’ll do is first try making a splint to keep the toe straight or possibly make an orthotic (this is going to be a pain) where where the callous is would be cut out. I guess we shall see what happens
As far as the pain in my back, since it’s not so bad that I need to take any kind of pain reliever, his basic feeling is “if that’s the only ache you have at 65, you’re doing pretty good”. I guess that’s true. So my take is “live with it”
Making sugar cookies right now to take to Jess’ next week. I'll also take her some sourdough
Now that I finished the puzzle next on the agenda is to write out the Christmas cards (you don’t have to remind me that it isn’t even Thanksgiving yet). Vince has some totes from Christmas ornaments to go back in the garage until after Christmas.
Allie – I agree with Heather. Bad as it is, at least they found it and it’s something that can be fixed. Like Lisa said, ask for help. Sweetheart, please, please, please take care of yourself. It’s a real good thing you went to the ER when you did. Prayers being sent your way
Got my pneumonia shot (I get the next one next year). It’s sore at the injection point, but I’ll live. I know it’ll get better and better
Carol GA – I hope that shot works for you
Cathy TX – kimchi is also supposed to be good like yogurt. Also PM'd you
Tracey – Vince likes to watch “the curse of Oak Island”. I watched it a few times and to me it was stupid. Too much trying to guess what something is or isn’t and not enough of real facts. I got bored with it.
Found out today that my doc is also on the board at the soup kitchen where I volunteer. I didn’t know this. He seems to be very community oriented. I know last year he was an officer in the Newton Kiwanis
Going to go rest, maybe read some on my tablet. Just want to rest this arm and my foot.

Allie - Lasix is a miracle, as far as I'm concerned, and every pound you pull off is that much better for your heart, girlie. Thinking about you, sitting in the hospital room there with you. Well, not while you're taking a sponge bath, but I'll come right back!
Tracey - hang in there, girl. Hope it's not spreading in your manor.
Cathy in Arlington - It's good to see you! So glad your colonoscopy came out well.
Which makes me think we should start a set of greeting cards for our age group, like:- Congratulations on getting through your recent colonoscopy. It's always tempting to ask the doctor, "What made you decide as a medical student to specialize in looking up people's butts?" You never get a good answer, though.
- Congratulations on getting past menopause. Really proud of you making it through those hot flashes where you stopped yourself from slapping a stupid person!
- Congratulations on losing 20 pounds. Brace yourself - you will now get to hear at least one hundred different ways you could have/should have/ought to have lost weight from... everyone you know. Because their way is better, that's why!
That slides right into snarkiness a little too quickly, though... not sure Hallmark would go for that one...
Oh and no, the beta blocker STILL hasn't gotten here that's supposed to regulate my afib. Apparently the doc did not remember to put in his notes that it should have been overnighted last Friday... so it wasn't. Yesterday afternoon, the nurse had the pharmacy overnight me a small amount and the original prescription should get here Friday. Grrf. On the other hand, the Lasix has peeled 16 pounds of water weight off in one week, which is about as fast as I was putting it on. They're testing my kidney function on Friday to make sure there's no damage from all the up-down.
Happy Wednesday, my chickadees,
Love,
Lisa in AR6 -

Good morning ladies!
Allie - sending prayers your way. As others have said, so glad they found what the problem was and are set up to fix it.
Michele - Cathy's pedometer looks neat. If you decide to get one like I have, I've had it for nearly a year and haven't had to change the battery yet. Changing it is easy, there's a little door on the back of it held by a teensy screw and they even send a teensy screwdriver for the job!
Regarding the C-19:I ran across a small study - Lancet Pre-print regarding Quercetin and Vit C for prophylactic benefit: https://papers.ssrn.com/sol3/papers.cfm?abstract_id=3682517 Just something to look into if interested. I'd read anecdotal reports of Quercetin and zinc effectiveness at boosting resistance and/or speeding up recovery from this virus, glad to see studies about it being published.
Cathy - like Margaret, I also drink a bit of Kombucha each day. Plus sauerkraut. A bit of red wine or red grapes are good. Resistant starch (cold cooked potatoes & rice, oatmeal) keeps gut microbes happy but probably wouldn't fit into the keto plan? Check out Tim Spector for gut microbiome info if you haven't already.
Carol - praying the shot in the shoulder does the job!
Stay healthy!
Lanette
Wet SW WA State2 -
Michele I think you meant your fan comments to Flea
Carol I once had the shots in my shoulder and elbows, but now use Diclofenac Sodium Gel. It works great and hasn't the side effects of steroid injections. The steroid shots every 6 months caused my cataracts to progress rapidly and made it impossible for the eye doc to see glaucoma until the cataracts were removed.
Lanette I could never get anywhere close to an accurate step and mileage measure using my bra as a holder. My most accurate is in the little "watch" side pocket in my stretch mom jeans. I used to have my key and meter on a silver holder I made that clipped over my bra so they hung in between my paltry cleavage. It was really easy to remove with T-shirts and super easy with tanks. I still keep my key there unless I wear a turtleneck.
Barbara You didn't miss my posts as I haven't made any lately because current events have my panties in a painful twist. The holidays have been hard for me for the last 50 years. I have always looked forward to the New Year, but this coming year I see nothing good happening.
Allie I have been worried about you for some time. I have seen way too many caring people like you helping others even though it creates hardships and stress for them, develop serious health issues. You are lucky that you went in when you did. Any major surgery is scary, but it sounds like you will have the best doctors that have done this procedure successfully many times. Sending you good energy and I hope this will open a new door to your good health and fitness and also maybe a career change. You will always be a caring person, but now Allie must come first. Stay strong girl!
Sue Yes goats are a calming factor with horses as well as weed and brush control. I haven't had goats for 40 years and I am amazed at all the new breeds. Your goats look like a Toggenburg French Alpine mix. Those were my favorite breeds.
Cathy If I looked as nice as you, I also would probably live in leggings and sports bras. I still have my very lightweight nylon/spandex long sleeve Lole jacket that I would use in warm weather to go shopping even out to eat. SKINS leggings, a custom made racerback sports bra, and my light Lole jacket and I was good to go. I even wore this outfit to one of my old neighbors' outdoor funeral. I was young then in my early 60's. He told me one time I should wear it to his funeral, so I did.

Mrsbfe – is the breed of kitten “the kind you get at the Humane Society” or is it “the kind that is feral”. We have “the kind you get at the Humane Society”
Michele NC
He's the kind you rescue from the barrier at the edge of a bridge! Also we are rescue adopters. My beloved cat Bob (my goofy avatar) is a perfect case of "who rescued whom," he saved my life. My depression was getting scary, the cat I had since I escaped from domestic violence had died a couple months earlier, and I was on the verge of just giving up-life was simply getting too overwhelming. There's a pet supply store next door to my husband's office, and they help out the local cat rescue by keeping kittens to adopt. I went to my husband's office for something and while I was waiting for him, I was looking in the window at the kittens. Bob looked exactly like my other cat, and I mentioned it to my husband. He said "no more cats." We had 4 at the time. That Saturday he told me that he needed to go in to town (we live in the out in the middle of nowhere), and wanted me to come with him "just for company" (that's not unusual). So as we were almost to his office door, he suddenly veered off to the right, walked in to the pet supply store, and there was the kitten ready to go home with me. He bonded with me like super glue, always knows when I'm not okay, and is the most loving cat I've ever had.
This is me at the pet store with Bob.

For the Goat Lovers
My goats 1973 on a mountainside on a ranch where I lived in Montana and worked as a wilderness survival guide. They kept the horses calm and the horses protected them from predators and they gave me a source for healthy cheese and butter. Basque-style Shepards cast iron dutch oven sourdough bread saturated with goat butter, elk jerky, dried morel mushrooms, and camas root and dandelion greens salad topped with goat cheese while sipping a rose hip camomile tea while the flames of the campfire merrily dance, now that is real living.

Sheri, Your husband is a keeper. What an awesome thing to do for you.
Jake has all sorts of heart issues. The cardiologist says that his heart is "complicated". Among the meds he takes is lasik. He has done so for years.
I got a text last night telling me that a woman who used to line dance with us had been hit by a car while she was walking home from Mass. The first thing I thought was why was a woman well over 80 years old going out to church and why was the church even holding services with the virus rates going up.
Just before bedtime, Jake told me that the hair cutting salon was closed because of something related to the power outage in the morning. I just jumped to the conclusion that it was closed because of virus concerns. That makes me feel more assured that dog grooming will be open today; Sasha needs a haircut a lot more than Jake does and both dogs need a bath.
Barbie in NW WA4 -
Did a 10 Minute Solution Tone Trouble Zones DVD. I didn’t realize this is a band DVD, but that’s OK. The plan for tomorrow is to do an Advanced Strength DVD.
My arm is still sore from the pneumonia vaccine. I know it’ll just get better. It’s somewhat better than it was yesterday. But it’s still hard for me to lift my arm high or lifting something heavy. But I’ll be back to normal in a few days. I’ll just use lighter weights tomorrow and if I can’t get my arm up all the way…I’ll live.
Tracey – you take care of yourself. Maybe you should get tested just to be on the safe side. Even if you weren’t in contact with that person, you may have been in contact with someone who was in contact with her
Barbara – I like the idea of the thermometer, too. But like (I think it was) Meg said, because it’s painted on both sides, will the paint come off? I wonder if you can put a thermometer on it that you can then switch it to the back? I’m thinking that it’s probably too long to hang like a mobile. I just don’t know what I can do.
Lisa – thank goodness for that nurse!
M – you have such lovely photos. I always love looking at them
Lanette – if red grapes are good for the gut, does that include wine
We’re basically giving Denise two options as to when to have Christmas, the week before or the week after. As you might recall, last year we had it two weeks after Christmas to accommodate Pete’s schedule. Then they never came. But we’d already made plans with other people so we had to have it then. I was SOO ready for Christmas to be over. If she doesn’t get back to us by Friday, we’re going to pick a date. Jess is going to Idaho. Yes, I would love for her and Colby to be here. But I totally understand. He SHOULD also be with his mother. And he was here last year. It seems that there’s a significant reduction in price of airline tickets from Iowa to Idaho if they leave the Friday before and then fly back to Iowa on the 26th then drive to NC. I would think they’d want to spend New Years with friends in VA and not mom and dad. If Denise doesn’t get back to us by Friday, we’re going to pick a date. And if she’s here, she’s here. If not…guess it’ll be like last year. Truthfully, before we pick a date, we’ll probably check with Jess as to which date is best for her. She may not realize that she’ll be here for New Years.
Sheri – Bob sure is a special cat. You know what I’ve noticed that the Humane Society is doing lately? A business pays the adoption fee and you can get the cat for free. I bet this helps with their adoption rate, which is a good thing. Bob reminds me so much of our Lexi. When we adopted her, she’d been badly abused (see pic). Then she had a poly in her ear that was so deep we had to go to NC State, the vet couldn’t get to it. Now she’s deaf but she’s happy. A few years ago she just started to meow (air was leaking out of her trachea) and now she meows (as best she can) a lot. I’m thinking it’s because she can’t hear if she meowed she does it again. Vince has read that a cat walking around meowing a lot is a sign that the cat has dementia. I honestly don’t think she does.
Barbie – I do hope your friend is OK. It’s probably take her a long time to heal.

The cold weather is here. But I don't leave the house much anymore.
I bought myself 4 lb dumbbells for my birthday. I have to increase very gradually so I don't drop them. I was reluctant to have them shipped but I gave in. They aren't as heavy as the 15 lb bag of dog food I also ordered. And anything that keeps me out of the stores is worthwhile.
My birthday is Friday. Steven sent me a recording of him singing and playing Dreamboat Annie by Heart. So romantic! We were going to spend the weekend together but I cancelled for Covid. The numbers are too scary. Time to hunker down for the winter. And work more on that mini-stepper. I read that a 12 minute session of exercise makes a difference in the blood. That's a reasonable goal for me.
Take care, ladies! Especially Lisa and Allie. The holidays are a hard time for many, so we have to work at being cheerful, but the results are worth the work.

Michele Yes, red wine is good for the gut according to the teaching of an old manuscript. "Drink no longer water, but use a little wine for your stomach's sake and other infirmities."3

To say I am shocked is an understatement. I had a good cry and then got over it..
Please if any of you are praying people I need them aĺl..
Thank you all for being such wonderful sister friends xoxox

Michele - I was tested yesterday, all staff was asked to voluntarily test. We will be doing so weekly now until we're out of this mess.
I'll catch up later tonight.

Hi everyone! Just hopping on to say hi and I hope you are all doing well.
I was furloughed from my job, and my position was then eventually eliminated due to COVID-19 shutdowns, so I've decided to take early retirement. Hoping that will allow me to hop on here on a regular basis once i figure out my new routine. It's quite a change and I hadn't realized how much of a loop it would throw me into.
Stay healthy and be well, ladies!
