We're done except for the turkey. My husband's buying it now. He sent me a picture.... absolutely no toilet paper or paper towels today. We are near Winston Salem, NC.
Did a run for bird seed at Fleet Farm (birds have to eat too) and did a Target run for TP as long as I was out. Very low on paper products (I got the last Up and Up multi pack toilet paper). The cashier and I chatted about it. She said it was flying off the shelves.
At Fleet Farm, the Salvation Army bell ringer was there. I had about a dollars worth of change in my jacket pocket. I haven’t had much cash at all since covid. I’m pretty much using my debit card. Have plenty it change at home. I’ll have to make an effort to remember to fill my pockets.7 -
Sorry, Reenie. Hope you keep feeling okay, at least. My dad and his wife apparently had it with no symptoms. Is your ability to smell/taste still normal?
Thank you, yes I can still taste/smell but I noticed my appetite was low for a couple days. I highly believe Covid is real but had a hard time believing someone could have it and not know it. Now I believe. I'm glad your dad and his wife had no symptoms and I assume are doing well. My dh has had a cough, he did have chills/fever for a couple days in the beginning which is why he went for the test. But even so, he said he just felt like he had a regular cold. Counting our Blessings because I know how lucky we are compared to so many.
And it's strange because people were saying it's the elderly and immune-compromised that would have the hardest time. DH has been a smoker all his life, has many health issues and doesn't take great care of himself so I feared the worst for him. There is no rhyme or reason how a person can react if they get it. Please don't take a chance.19 -
I bought all the stuff to cook for Thanksgiving last week. They had good deals on everything. Worked out well because they phoned me last night that I'm positive for Covid and now have to isolate until the 28th.
I have been missing helping my sister with her dh who has Alzheimers and is confined to bed. Looks like it'll be awhile longer.
So sorry to hear that, Reenie! Keep us posted on how you're doing, if/when you have the energy, OK? I know I'll be thinking of you, sure others here will be, too. Sending wishes for an easy course of it, and a fast recovery!
Thank you so much2 -

Here's some things listed as boosters
1. Don't smoke
2. Get enough sleep
3. Eat a diet high in fruits and vegetables.
4. Exercise regularly.
5. Maintain a healthy weight.
6. I also believe Wim Hof breathing can boost your immune system
Everybody can do these things to help protect themselves.
Not familiar with the Wim Hof breathing method, but in full agreement with all the others.
Sample of one. My BIL's mom is 93, super lady that has celebrated all family occasions with us for 25+ years. She worked in a shoe factory, as a relator and at age 65 started a job with the state and retired at age 90. She kept working because she loved to be around the people. She has followed items 1-5 above.
Earlier this week she had an issue with edema and went to the ER. Blood tests showed a low red blood cell count. They determined she had internal bleeding and sepsis. Took her into surgery last night and got out about 9PM. They found cancer that caused a bowel rupture and ended up removing part of her intestines to take care of the cancer.
This morning she was awake, alert and trying to talk, although she was still on a ventilator.
She's still not out of the woods, but, I fully feel she would not have survived the surgery if she had not followed items 1-5 above.
Wow, she sounds very tough and strong-willed! I wish her complete recovery so she lives to see 100+. Amazing!2 -
Best wishes for a speedy recovery Reenie - and Reenie's DH.
Update from South Australia - very weird situation here.
We went from almost pre Covid normal to super hard lock down - for 6 days, "circuit breaker" after a cluster of cases around cleaner in a quarantine hotel and crossover to a pizza place.
This started midnight Wed and was due to finish midnight Tues - then hopefully back to prior level of low grade restrictions but possible extension.
Announcement yesterday - you can now excercise outside home in family groups effective immediatly and the lockdown ends early - midnight tonight (ie after3 days)
Apparently one of the cases deliberately lied to police and tracers and said their only contact was through an infected pizza delivery box - of course this spreads net wide, to all pizza recievers from that place and all their contacts.
In fact he worked at the shop as a kitchen hand for couple of shifts - so the infection was through direct personal contact, same as everyone else in the cluster.
Contact tracing net much smaller and risk to outside people much less.
Premier said in news conference yesterday "to say I am annoyed with this person is a massive understatement"12 -
I'm excited for the vaccine to come out7

Do they know why they lied? Hope he gets fined for this or jail.0 -
my guess is that he was claiming centrelink and getting paid cash under the table - but,no, they haven't said.3

I don't think anyone has reported on Michigan lately. I'm too sick of all this nonsense** to do full research, but restrictions have been tightened again. Indoor dining is forbidden again, for example. (Still, I went to a brewpub today to pick up an order, and there were a couple of tables of people just sitting there drinking, and they weren't owners/staff (whom I know 🙄).)
** . . . and I'm in the mode of doing more than the legal minimums, for a long time now, to limit connections to other people, in order to limit potential transmission . . . so please don't interpret that as "tired of limitations so wanting to be acting like an idiot".
On a more positive note, the brewpub is doing takeout cocktails in the form of "Adult Juice Boxes", which I think is pretty stinkin' cute.

Thanks. Less than 24 hours after surgery they were moving her to her own room. Assume still ICU but good progress.9 -
I live in a county with over 27% positivity rate. Last Saturday I had lunch with my boyfriend and he thought that he had a cold. He didn't get tested for Covid until Monday and received results Thursday. He is positive and is having difficulty breathing. I called my transplant coordinator. I will be tested next Monday at one of the state test facilities. My local clinic will not test me unless I have symptoms. Have been told by a family member that they won't let me ruin their Thanksgiving and we are having people over here. Hopefully, I don't have Covid and am not just asymptomatic.16

This sounds horrible. I hope you are ok.3 -

I cannot believe this. Why? It's just Thanksgiving. They should stay home. You should be tested if you have been around Covid. Also can't understand that.. gosh.12 -
I live in Iowa where all the counties are over 10% positivity. We have the third highest positivity rate in the country, a republican controlled government and our "mask mandate" is essentially if you can't social distance inside for 15 minutes then you should wear a mask unless you are in church where they cannot be mandated. I am isolating as best as I can but family member that I live with is not.7
-
IL entered a new restriction phase today. Gyms can't have classes but weight rooms, cardio areas, etc can be open with reservations at up to 25% of capacity, masks required at all times. Heard an interview with the state health director yesterday saying the thought is the health benefits of this level of gym availability outweigh the risks.
IL has been one of the more restrictive states during all this. Glad they did the risk/reward analysis.5 -

I lived in Iowa my entire life until 2019 and still know a lot of people there. To say it is really bad there right now is an understatement.
However, I will point out that there is 1 county at less than 10% positivity for the most recent 7 days of data reported (Wed Jan 22 2020 - Thu Nov 19 2020). Lucas County is at 7.87% positivity for the 7 day average.2 -

Not great he lied, but happy that there'll be no tough lockdown for you 🙂
New South Wales has recorded 14 days straight of no community transmission 🤞 hoping for many more days.7 -
I live in Iowa too, and it is just ridiculous. I am a library dierctor at two libraries and we closed again this week, probably through the end of the year. It is getting really scary. I know 4 people who have died and many more who had it bad. But with the governor we have, i don't think things are going to get any better soon.13

It's nuts, isn't it? Here in NZ, if you're a close contact (as is the case here), you have to isolate and get tested.7 -

Wait... what? You're having people over for Thanksgiving with a positive covid close contact? :noway:16
