Morning!
Wrapped up November with 240.59!
Im in for a minimum of 200 again for December.
it was 23F this morning. Fartlek. Felt amazing and the cold wasn't at all what I thought it would be. Everything around me was frozen yet I was not. Everything was in sync and clicked. It was probably my best 4am run up to this point. Cloud. Nine.
I still can't get over how 23F seemed so scary until I was in it and it was fine. I have asthma and I was so scared "Mama I am about to DIE," but that's not what happened at all.
So anyway, that was my run. Come at me, December.6 -
@mbaker566 that is so cool - thanks1

i did it. it was fun.
i had been attempting to build up to a regular 50k so my volume was up.
I'm also doing their 12 days of Christmas challenge. which is terrifying but i'm excited
I've been increasing my mileage and working off a 50k plan right now. I was debating a 50k in March but with covid I think I'm going to just stick to virtual events. I'm going to stick with my 50k plan and figure out a way to extend it so I'm going an extra couple of months. Maybe restart it. Undecided. Just gonna try to get through December then really figure it out.6 -
So I restarted the c25k today. 1st day completed.
Dec 1 - 1.84 miles
I also usually walk for about half an hour per day while at work at lunch time.14 -
Happy December 1 everyone!
I had to push to reach my November goal of 120 miles but what's the point in having a goal if it doesn't push you? So, I'm aiming for 120 miles again for December. Woke up with snow with a layer of ice on the ground so I'm glad it's a rest day. I ran 1.05 mile(s) on the treadmill to keep my Holiday Run Streak alive. Currently at noon, its 29F with a real feel of 25F. Ugh winter!6 -
Goal is 18 miles again but probably only running twice a week. I’m trying to do resistance training three times a week. Plus with the cold weather me and the baby don’t enjoy runs quite the same.
Thanks for all the support last month! I hit my goal and I think I found my love for running again. Pretty excited about this month.
12/1: 2.3 miles- much easier without the jogging stroller and baby
8 -
Whew. Back after a month off.
Goal for December is 30 miles and I'm adding strength training in the mix now too. It's good to be back with you guys on the forum!
12/1 - 1mi
Total: 1/30 miles for December6 -
5.1/100 Miles
12/1: 5.1 Miles
On the board for December! Had my coldest run of the season so far today. A cold front blew in so it was 30F when I woke up. I didn't have anywhere to be so I waited until the sun came up and brought the temps up to a more reasonable 40F before I headed out.
Quarter mile repeats at a pace that felt really hard x 8. I mostly succeeded but there were a couple in there that were a bit slow.
It's officially the time in HM training where I have to be mindful of how much climbing I am trying to do while increasing mileage. I climbed last night and I'll go tomorrow, but I may hold off on Thursday this week. I'll have to see how I feel. The physical burnout is real!
I have worked my calories up and that is helping a lot. I think some of the fatigue was definitely underfueling.5 -
December is underway! Slow but ticked off the miles on the treadmill. Good to be off the mark.
Hope all are well x
December total: 5m
December goal: 72.9m
1/12: 5m
Jan - Nov: 726.8m5 -

Bike ride today. Kid decided at the last minute he wanted to come... so I gave him a list of "requirements" (warmer sweatpants, socks, a coat, buff, gloves, and we're doing my planned route) and he apparently really wanted to go because he went & got ready. It was slower and I got lots of breaks while waiting at the top of hills, but overall good. I did take one shortcut to avoid a busy section of road and a hill, and the result was cobblestones so bad that I lost the batteries and battery cover to my cool new light (red tail light that also shoots a laser on the road to encourage people to give me space). We went back later and I found the cover, smashed. I think someone else got the batteries. Bummer. Maybe hubby can fix it.
The positive in it was that it was literally freezing and I almost didn't go at all. My cycling mileage this year is over 1000 km (as opposed to my normal 400ish) and I had to clear ice off of the car windshield today and thought maybe that's enough bike riding for one year... AND afterwards was glad I went though8 -

Welcome to all the newbies and those returning after being away for a while! We are a fun group and we like to talk, a lot... be prepared to have lots of catching up if you miss a few days here, this discussion moves fast!
@avidkeo - I typically strength train 2-3 times/week with a mix of weights, body weight and stretching and now I am doing 15-30mins of yoga too. I usually do a HIIT class once a week that includes weights with exercises emom followed by a stretching and foam rolling class. It was easier for me to be consistent with it when I was going to the gym on T-Th and working with my trainer. Doing it on my own is definitely harder as I really have to talk myself into it. Also my trainer's perspective was very different from @ContraryMaryMary's coach. He felt that it should be required for runners at least once a week as it helps strengthen uniformly (assuming you work each side as well as your core equally) which helps with your running form. It also helps with stability and the upper body strength is definitely an asset especially for powering up hills.
No run for me today. Busy morning and unlike most of you (not in AU or NZ) who are experiencing cold, it is hot here again. In the 80s(F) and getting windy and oh so dry - 12-14% humidity. And yes, the fire warnings are back. I would love to have it a bit cooler so it at least feels a bit like winter. My plants are so confused too.
We had agility class last night and Hobbes and I were the only ones who showed up. So an hour of running courses without much of a break (normally we each go in rotation). It was fun and we got to practice things over and over but we were exhausted after class. The good news is that while my hamstring/glute was tired and achy it did not 'hurt' the way it has been and today it still feels pretty good.
I am going to get my cross training in (procrastinating atm 😂) soon and have another walk with a bit of running planned for tomorrow.
Oh - also found out today that my race in February (Surf City HM) has been pushed to September. It is the 25th anniversary of the race so I hope they will be able to actually hold it in person by then. Since I am not supposed to be running that far my plan is to walk as much as I run and hopefully still finish within the time limit.7 -
@Camaramandy648 What a great run in the cold. I have yet to get outside and run when it's that low. I really don't enjoy being cold.
@polskagirl01 Sorry about the smashed batter cover. Hope you can fix your light. Glad you enjoyed the cold ride. Congrats on the awesome biking mileage too.
@shanaber Glad they went ahead and let you and Hobbes do the agility class as loners. So happy that your hamstring held out and is good today. I think you are almost mended. I hope the race happens in September. Surely things will be better by then!
I had my CT scan this afternoon. Should get the results either tomorrow or Thursday.5 -
Welcome all of the new members!
@Camaramandy648 and all the other brave souls who can run in the cold! I'm so impressed with you all! I can tolerate the heat (although I complain about it profusely). But the cold is just physically painful for me.
It was a Very rare after work run for me today. But didn't want to run this morning when it was 27F. I guess it was a shock to my system because even though it was 55F (and a brisk 20mph N wind), my asthma acted up for the first 4 miles. Felt like I was breathing through a straw. But then the airways opened up and I felt normal for the last 2.2. I'm just going to have to use the dreadmill for cold mornings I guess.

@skippygirlsmom the shoulder is better today, thank you. I agree, I thought I wanted to retire to the beach but I'm rethinking it. The mountains are just incredible to me and I feel like as hard as all these hikes are, I miss them as soon as I leave.
@mbaker566 and @teresa502 the 12 days of Yeti sounds so fun but also terrifying. Good luck!
Nice job on getting started for December everyone, despite the cold.
Date :::: Miles :::: Cumulative

Starting out slowly here with just a short run this morning. It was not terribly cold in the low 40s but it was raining a little. I knew it was supposed to rain more later and maybe snow so I made myself go out there. Once I got started it was not so bad but I procrastinated a little to long so had to keep it short to get to work.
Just 30 days of running streak left.
And I just realized I just exceeded 2000 total miles for the year including walking, hiking and running (2001 to be exact). 1281 of that is running alone.7 -

December Goal: 100 Miles
12/1: 6.08 miles
6.08/100 miles completed for November
1287.96/1000 miles for Run the Year Team Pavement Pounders
I am way behind on the thread so I am just going to post this run and then go back and try to catch up. I ran 6 miles this morning. It was really cold for me at 34°F feels like 26°F. I was dressed good though and pretty comfortable except for my hands were still kind of cold. It's supposed to be cold like that all week. I don't really like cold weather, but if I don't run at 5 am I won't be able to run at all so I guess I will just have to tough it out.
2020 races:
11/7/20: Run for 57th AHC Half Marathon5 -
12-01 Day 6 Holiday Streak 2020 2.2 miles. Coldest run so far ---- 26 degrees welcome to Decembuurrr lol (that's cold for Alabama)
12-02 Day 7 Holiday Streak 2020 1.25 miles. Even colder today 25 degrees. After yesterday, I was ready for today.
December Total: 3.5 miles
December Goal: 40 miles

Great goal of 200! It's cold down here in Alabama (mid 20's) as I'm getting back into trying to run.... in the cold weather I get really tight and wheezing. I've never been diagnosed with asthma, I'm calling it myself as exercise induced asthma. So when it's cold, I do have an inhaler that I use before I run and it helps.... a LOT. Stay safe.3 -

Good morning, just curious... what is the 12 days of Christmas Challenge? I'm just getting back into running and I'm doing the Holiday Streak.1 -
@Scott6255 Sorry your asthma acted up, but great job on hanging in there and getting it done. I'm with you on temperatures. I'm a wimp when it comes to cold temperatures. Possibly because I don't have the proper clothing. I spend a lot of my winter months on the treadmill.
@katharmonic That's awesome mileage!
@kgirlhart Great job of getting out there and running in the cold, at 5 am. To me, that is amazing!4 -

Every day the directors email us a distance to run for 12 days. posted a link yesterday. anywhere between 0 to 131 -
@62Rich @Scott6255 @quilteryoyo
Yes, yes, yes. I despise the cold. As in, i can't think of many things I hate more. It makes me angry, to the point of being livid. I know, it's weird. I half-jokingly say, "I am an island person." I am half Portuguese. Please just let me have the sun and warmth.
For the asthma - I have two inhalers that I use religiously before the run, usually about 15 minutes or so - Qvar, which I think is a steroidal, and then Pro-Air, which is straight up albuterol. I'd probably not be able to run at all without these two.
This morning was 36F and I went with a fleece upper/shell lower pullover (just 1 layer) and leggings. And a baseball cap. Easy.
At first, I thought I had underdressed, but it turned out to be the perfect amount of clothes, lol. I was pretty tired - Waking up early the day after lifting is always really hard. I was up at 3:40AM though!
Getting started was also hard. I felt the weight in each step but eventually, as it always happens, I found my stride and just went. Billy Idol this morning. Super fun. Today is a double-run so I'll do The Cars this evening.6 -
1202-5k, total-5k goal-70k
It was pretty cold today - comfortably freezing was the term that came to mind around the 3km mark when my toes finally started feeling warm. I love this weather!
Weather forecasts have -15C in the books for next week (that's around 5 degrees F) and I'm somewhere between excited and terrified.6
