WOMEN AGES 50+ FOR DECEMBER 2020

Machka: Your Canadian Christmas menu sounds very much the same as my family’s Oregon menu for both Thanksgiving and Christmas. We had a similar food list for many years until DH was put on a Fodmap diet. We are carnivores and eat quite a bit of meat. Having baked treats is rare, but we have found a cake recipe that is gluten free and there are also boxed mixes for gluten free brownies. None of these treats are low calorie, nor good for people who are watching their weight. Portion control is the solution, but it is very difficult during a family feast.
Tracey: You have a very challenging career these days. I admire you for all you do to manage business details & help the elders in your care.
Rebecca: Athena’s unicorn hat is charming. She will be able to wear it for a long time to come.
Allie: Like Barbie, I wonder whether you will be receiving an implanted cardiac defibrillator. At this moment, I’m happy that you are in good care. :flowerforyou:
Barbara: Yes! The glasses in your photo are like ours. Cobalt Blue is my favorite color and I love having them. DH found ours through ebay.
Heather: Happy Christmas!
Thyme in GA: Getting a home ready to sell is hard work. What do you have planned for your next home?
Our county has had 2 new Covid deaths this week, bringing our total to 6 deaths since the beginning of the pandemic. We are faring better than many places. People here are vigilant about wearing masks in public. Our grocery stores have early morning senior hours, but seniors are welcome any time of the day. You can call in orders and they will be brought to your car.
All that said, I look forward to vaccinations. They’ve been talking about January. First responders and medical people come first. I wonder how long it will be for people 50+ to get their vaccinations. DH is medically challenged. He may get a fairly early slot. We will see what the future holds as time goes by.

I just ordered a bottle of Xlear from Amazon, it's probably available in our local drug stores and Wally world. Something to keep on the shelf especially for DH who doesn't eat a very balanced diet or take many vitamins.

I’ve been using Xlear for over 5 years for my allergies. Helps keep my sinuses clear from my allergies. I highly recommend it!

Karen, awesome news about Josephine the ballerina! May the physical therapy road be smooth.....
Heather, enjoyed Johnny's round robin, very entertaining!
Drive by post, official wi day today, down 2.6 lbs! This is the first time in awhile that I have recorded my weight, well second really, as I did it last week also (that was a YIKES!). I know it's probably some water weight, but it's sure nice to see the scale going in that direction! On that note, I must go have breakfast and get to the gym!
Hugs for those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Karen in VA: Three cheers for Josephine the Ballerina!!! It is wonderful that she is at home! It is great to see your post.
Rita: Thanks for the Xlear links! I want this product for both of us, but especially for DH.

Karen - thanks for the update on Josephine.
I am taking a little break while I eat my lunch. Today has been full so far.
On the weekend my Mom’s nursing home posted a picture of her and other residents making Christmas cards. I commented on the post stating I hoped to get one from Mom. I never expected one, as I know that the cost to the nursing home could be prohibitive with the stamps.
This morning I received a message from the home asking for my address, I immediately broke down crying.
My Mom used to give cards for everything and to everyone and I haven’t received a card from her since 2014.
I messaged the home back to let them know how grateful I was and they immediately took the iPad to Mom’s room and let me have a little visit with her. Today she remembered her Great Grandson and was able to fill me in on some accurate news. Today was a great day!

Worked today, then made the pierogi. Now making the oatmeal spice cookies for Colby. I’m going to ask Jess if we can go to Aldi since I forgot to get the cheese for their dinner tonight.
Rebecca – I just want to squeeze Athena!
Heather – Loved the “year in review”
Thyme – what kind of music does your son play?
Karen in VA – yea for Josephine
Tracey (((doing a cheer for you)))
Jess doesn’t want to go to Aldi. Really, it’s a pain for me to have to take the boot off, on, off, on. But I guess I’ll have to do it.

Why? It’s her dinner, if she doesn’t want to go get what’s needed, let her do without or eat something else.

Heather – Loved Johnny's round robin - especially the humorous bent.
Karen in VA – So pleased for Josephine the Ballerina - what a lovely Christmas gift for her and for her family!
Tracey - You made me sniffle with that one. I'm so glad you got a chance to speak to your mom. I'd give a lot to talk to my Mama--really missing her this year, more than most.
Pushed my time on the elliptical up to 21 minutes, and walked the yard for another 30 minutes talking on the phone. Still struggling to get a full breath when I do both, but the blood pressure/pulse are still in the normal ranges, so hopefully I'm just out of shape. Time to go slow and steady (not my usual mode).
Later y'all,
Love,
Lisa3 -
Tracey: Congratulations on your telephone visit with your mom, and your ipad visit is wonderful. You got to have a facetime visit! This virtual visit is a gift.
Barbara: One more comment on blue glasses--All of the blue glasses you posted with flat sections are like mine. DH says they are called a decagon. I absolutley love the color and the way they feel in my hand. They are called Vintage Anchor Hocking Essex Cobalt Blue. Only one arrived broken. DH ordered them through amazon, etsy.com, replacements & ebay.
Lanette: I will be looking for Xlear. :flowerforyou:

Great news about Josephine.
Tracey - That's great what the home did.
We have fairly strict stay at home orders here now. Basically, the state is closed. It doesn't matter much for me since I can't really go anywhere anyway, but because of this, I also cannot get healthcare I really need.
I am not improving very fast, though the light headedness is getting a bit better. The heart is RACING and the shortness of breath is worrisome. I'm afraid this lack of care I'm getting is going to ruin my overall fitness.
Hope you're all doing better than I am.
Tina in CA which is closed for business till further notice.9 -
Tracey- so glad you got to see and talk with your mum! The first person to be inoculated in the UK today with the Pfizer vaccine was a 90 year old woman. Care homes are high on the list.
I'm crossing fingers that my gluteal tendonopathy continues its improvement. Feeling so much better. Just getting around has been painful and difficult recently. I've felt really OLD. I'm trying not to do anything silly and set it off again.
Thanks all for your comments on my husband's Round Robin. One of the reasons I married him was his humour.

(((Tina in CA: ))). I hope you feel better each day. I am sorry that healthcare is not as available as you need just now. Peter Rabbit’s mother recommends chamomile tea. I personally prefer peppermint tea. Staying hydrated is important. 😘2

Internet, phones, and TV down most of the day. Doctor appointment. I will catch up and comment tomorrow if the internet isn't shut down again. Haircut tomorrow.
Hugs to all,

Okie – that wasn’t the only thing that was needed. She knew that and she was probably afraid that I’d spend a lot of time in the store. But the truth of the matter is that I spent maybe an hour. Just got the things on my list. Now to figure out what they’ll have for dinner tomorrow. Let’s see, what do I have? I’ll probably wind up having to go to WalMart, I need gas anyway.
Lisa – so glad to hear that you’re getting better
Tracey – how wonderful for you and your mom to get to talk to each other
Tina – (((HUGS))) I wish there was something I could do. It seems that our governor just made a restriction that you can’t be out between 10 pm and 5am. This affects Food Lion a little bit since they are open until 11, but one hour isn’t much. Wonder what’ll happen to Jess’ flight into Charlotte? It’s due to be in around 11. You know something, just to be ornery what I should do is go to the food kitchen and help with the candy making. They’re supposed to be there until 10. Well, by the time I’d be getting home, it would be after 10.

Katla in Beautiful NW Oregon
Katla - I looked for Xlear when I made my rounds in town this morning. None at Walmart (I didn't even see a place on the shelf for it) and Walgreens had one bottle left in the nose spray area; I let my girlfriend know and she ran over and grabbed it for her family. I placed another Amazon order for some.
Rita's recommendation using it regarding allergies let me to read more of the reviews on Amazon; others had the same comments. I don't like using Zyrtec but have been doing so lately because of the sinus headaches. Flonase would give me a nosebleed. So I'm hoping Xlear will help!!
Nightguards: Had a dental appointment this morning, teeth cleaning. All OK except I've been having tooth pain here and there, dentist said he could tell I've been grinding my teeth so I'm to use a nightguard. He said anything sold at a retail store like Walmart or drugstore will be fine.
Love my dentist by the way - he could have gone the "I'll need to take impressions for a custom one and fork over $200" route. He said he's had a lot of patients grinding their teeth these days.
Any recommendations on night guards from you gals?
TIA Have a great evening!
