Thanks Barbie!

Katla - Thank you, the snow is pretty now if it just came with warm weather!
❄️⛄️❄️
I haven’t seen any shortages here yet except for Disinfectant wipes.
I don’t like taking Christmas down. It always seems so dark and bare.
Evelyn - we usually have an agreement that I don’t decorate until after his Mom’s birthday which is Wednesday. I just needed some cheer at home since work is so sad right now and he understands that. So he hid in the bedroom and let me decorate on Saturday. Last night he asked me when I was going to be done because he feels like I usually do more. That’s the first time he’s ever commented about me not doing enough, it’s usually opposite. 🎄
Barbie - thank you. I noticed driving in to that that more people have decorated this weekend. It was very pretty driving in.
Barbara - that is scary stuff Joe shared with you. You need to count your blessings from that conversation. I was hoping to read that his appointment today was all good news.
Tina - I would see someone else too and not wait until January.
Heather - I love your gifts for Johnny! Your visit with your friend sounds like it will be wonderful!
Margaret- I watched that Tom Hanks movie a few weeks ago. I really enjoyed it too.
Rebecca- I think we all do that with movies when we are well versed in the topic. I hope you enjoy the movie when you watch it. I have been watching a Christmas movie every night that I’ve recorded that way I can bypass the commercials.
I have 14 battery operated Christmas light displays from or things. I don’t light some of the decorations each night but I do all 11 sets of lights!
Thanks for the new month Barbie. Hard to believe it’s December already.
I was told today that I am getting a raise retroactive to April, that’s a nice little Christmas bonus.
Work update - Can be upsetting so please be warned.I was dreading going to work today as I knew on Friday we had more positive cases in our residents. I was in tears today when I found out that we had 17 more. 4 have now passed. It’s heartbreaking and happened so easily. The one positive resident that is still showing no symptoms spread it to everyone else. Because he was symptom free he wasn’t isolated soon enough.
I don’t interact with many of the residents even on normal times, the ones I have dealings with are still pretty cognizant and can get around on their own. Today one of the ones I really liked passed.
It’s terrible dealing with this at work and then I come home and see so many friends and family sharing how it’s all a hoax, it’s no worse than the flu, etc etc it makes it even worse. We have lost more residents since last Wednesday than we have in the last 6 months.
My husband is trying hard to stay positive and to make me laugh. I don’t know how I’ll ever forgive myself if I bring this home to him. I’m taking every precaution I’m told to, staying in my office and out of the units but it still worries me.
I haven’t given my girls the update from today, I need to because it’s posted on our homes FB page, but they both suffer from anxiety and I don’t want to worry them. I’m so torn.
One of the Nurses at work bought Poinsettias to support a local charity. She bought one for each of the admin staff to cheer us up. I cried when I read the note and she thanked us for all we do. It’s beautiful. I’ll post a picture next.

Of course, no formal exercise today. Tomorrow I’m thinking that I’ll go to the gym and do a body pump video. I think I can do everything except lunges
Jess just told Vince that she was coming home at the end of the week and that Colby still hasn’t made up his mind about Idaho. The reasons I sort-of hope they don’t go are that they’d be flying. I’m getting more and more conscious of this C stuff and you don’t know about the air, etc. Also, it appears there are 11 people living in the mother’s house. So they would have to stay in a trailer (not sure if the mother owns it or shares it with someone). Since the trailer isn’t exactly conducive to Colby’s work, they would have to stay at an air-B-n-B. Then if they fly into one airport they’d have to rent a car. They were there in August. I understand Colby wanting to see his family, but it seems that they’re not all going to be there. Also, one of his brother’s had COVID. Jess wants to work at Banfield here in Gastonia as much as she can. If she comes here at the end of this week, they were talking about flying on the 18th, that would only give her 2 weeks working. Colby is looking at the cost and it’s much more expensive to fly out of Charlotte. To me, it just seems that it’s not a good time right now. When Jess first met Colby, he would see his family every few years, so I wouldn’t think that missing Christmas would mean that much. I guess we shall see.
Worked today. I don’t know what, but the governor of NC made some sort of mandate. Now they are trying to enforce the in-one-door out-the-other (as you know, some people will just do what they want). All the carts (I still can’t get used to calling them a “buggy” and I don’t think I ever will) have to be sanitized this certain way. They’re offering people a mask. I can live with this for a few hours/day.
Am supposed to go to the podiatrist tomorrow. Remember I said I had something on the bottom of my foot that felt like a plantar wart? And the MD doesn’t think so. So I’m supposed to go to the podiatrist tomorrow.
Tina – sorry about your mother’s best friend. It’s so very hard for elderly people. I know my father got to the point of “there’s no one else around”. I hope you’re better fast
Flea – our cats like to rub up against the branches of the tree!
Tracey – lovely decorations
Barbara – only good thoughts for tomorrow
Christmas displays – Vince is the only person I know who has a computer dedicated solely to the Christmas decorations….lol
Tracey (((BIG HUG))) How sweet of that nurse to give you the flowers
Charsuzie – I haven’t forgotten about the pic. I’m just trying to make as few trips as possible. Maybe next time I have to go downstairs I’ll take the pic. Here's a picture of my DVD collection

Tracey, hugs and prayers. I cannot imagine the feelings you are experiencing. I am so sad for you.

Tracey ... I’m so very sorry to hear that your nursing home is being hit hard by Covid. All you can do to prevent bringing the virus home is to do your best. It sounds like you are vigilant in your efforts. I’m praying.
Barbie ... thank you for the new thread!
My son’s second Covid test is negative and he is still symptom free. He will remain quarantined until Friday. My physician rescheduled my appointment for tomorrow to follow the 14 day rule. I’m fine with that!

Happy December!!! Thank you for the new thread, Barbie. It is an excellent gift to us all.
(((Tracey in Edmonton))): I am sorry for the losses at your workplace. I suspect it is very difficult for you and other staff members to lose people you have taken care of for all this time. On a cheerier note, your poinsettia is beautiful.
Michele: Good luck to your daughter and son in law. I hope they have a successful, safe and happy adventure.

Happy First Day of Summer!!
It's been a warm day, but windy and with great gushes of rain now and then. Poor Rhody (our little black cat) wants to be out and in and out and in and out and in ...
Machka in Oz6 -
"Get to do"s and "chose well"sChose well: take BP
Bonus: wrapped up return, one load laundry, changed linens, vacuumed 30 mins, emailed line dance step sheets, de-greased two burners
Get to do: take BP, dogs to powerline, email info to grantwriter, watch STAS Day 18 (go sniff), submit grant pics and receipts, test Bluetooth speaker so can do BB&B or T’ai Chi from voice recordings, make experimental almond paste, declutter sideboard, practice new dances (I ain’t never gonna love nobody but Cornell Crawford (Alley cat), A Little Less Broken, One margarita, I’m so used to being broke, All Night, Nothing but You, Blame it on my beating heart, Homesick); finish mulching flowerbed; broadcast cover crop seed in veg garden areas, invest another 10 minutes in prepping living trust, Freddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, get Shingrix vaccine, find and configure a screen time popup, figure out where to plant naked lady bulbs, and soon as it warms up above 50 and dries out below 60% humidity I’ll tape and spray paint those rusted areas of Aunt Elsie’s stove. Tuesday: pick out glasses, update Joe’s rx list and re-choose his Part D.
Reward: inventory seeds, plan next year’s garden, wishlist replenishments
New Ways November
30: Look for reasons to be hopeful, even in difficult times: talk less, listen more, words of hope come from the most unexpected mouths!
Barbie, thanks so much for starting us off fresh as always
Thanks all for the positive energy. Good news, pressure down to 16 in left eye, 20 in right. Dr. got the right down to 16 by pressing below eye “real hard.” Joe had stopped doing that because it hurt, but now he’ll go back to it. New rx. Next followup in two months. Slow progress but progress. Joe has not been completely “released” from his surgeon, so I won’t rush back to inside gatherings. Since Medford is in an extreme risk range I will continue for another two weeks to limit inside exposure to grocery shopping. After that, if our county is still in the “moderate risk” range, might try church on the 13th.
Julie “…I asked that the criticiser see the difference between criticising actions and approaches and criticising people in over-arching terms.” Good for you. This is an important boundary to set and maintain, even though it means constant reinforcing. Brava. And I agree about those who lie about the little things… faithful in small… That was sure a scary communication “bug”, relieved Dr. said “no cancer.”
Fae  nope won’t be telling “the spin these ladies are putting on it…”
Tina “…for the guys to take on their boats after their dives” sounds intriguing. What are they diving for?
Rebecca I can just see you sitting on the lunch counter belting out the Don Ho song. What a delightful image, you made me smile!
Tracey ((hugs)) Are your daughters likely to check your work’s FB page? If so, I’d call and tell them myself, and ask them to let me cry on their shoulders. If not, then I’d just cry on my DH or the pup. Some people will believe it’s a hoax until someone they love gets sick and dies. I can’t imagine anything you could say or do that would change their minds. ((hugs))
Michele welcome home!
Stopped at Freddie’s on the way home from line dancing at the port Sunday. It was light when I went in, dark when I came out. To my surprise and joy there were holiday light displays all along the highway in front of most stores. These are the displays that normally make up “Nature’s Coastal Holiday” event that C-19 cancelled. https://naturescoastalholiday.com/ Lifted my spirits so much I called a friend to let her know. We’ll make a date to drive around and look. Not many in my neighborhood, only 5 houses on our 3 mile long dirt lane and so far see no lights. Won’t be walking in the dark.

Thank you, Barbie, for ushering us into December once more as a group!
My goals for November were:- Be healthier
- Be lighter
While I did find out I had a-fib in November, it made sense of a number of issues I'd been having, and I'm now on what appears to be the right dosage, so I'm counting that as a win. I'm also three pounds lighter than I was going in, and 33 pounds lighter since March (209 down to 186). That's a bit over four pounds per month lost, on average. Pleased with the numbers, even through a tough year with a lot of upheaval.
So... my goals for December are the same:- Be healthy
- Be lighter
Plan to start on the elliptical this morning again, just ten minutes or so, and start working my way up again.
Love y'all,
Lisa in AR3 -

Allie:
Hope all is going well, and that you're out of the ICU. I think of you every day.
Tracey:
My heart goes out to you and everyone there at the nursing home. I'm so sorry. The poinsettia is absolutely lovely.
Barbara AHMOD:
I'm so pleased the news was good for Joe's eye exam, and hope it continues that way!
Flea:
Loved the kitty pic!
Beth:
So pleased the testing continues negative for y'all.
Julie:
Glad there was no cancer in the bone marrow test - hope the overall news is good. Hate it when they make you wait!
This week/month, I also want to get back into a routine, finally. Feel as if my life has just been in an uproar since mid-summer, and so ready for things to settle down. I need some structure, and haven't been able to impose any with all the health stuff going on. It's time to try to establish some routines for my days without driving myself crazy. I know it's the holidays, but we have zero plans for all that, so it should be about the right time.
Since it's December, and the slightly annoying song keeps running through my head, thought I'd start a list of my favorite things.
These are (or were) a few of my favorite things:- A fire in the fireplace on a lazy weekend day, when it's too cold to go outside.
- The scent of Meyer lemon and basil wax melts from Better Homes and Gardens.
- From my childhood, the Sears Wishbook.
What are some of your favorite things about the holiday season?
Later, y'all,
Lisa in AR

Morning ladies. DH has gone to se his dentist. He lost a filling about a month ago and it’s taken this long to get an appointment.
It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas...
😍all the lights.
Tracey: we have several Christmas movie channels at the moment. I often watch them.
Barbie: Thanks for the link.
We have made our decisions based on what the health care professionals and scientists are recommending even if there is no law or government directive. We are unable to control the actions of others but we can make good decisions for our own safety.
Our sentiments exactly!
Flea: Christmas lights are also beginning to go up here. It’s very cheery to see them. We are planning our outside display this week.
[Barbara: positive thoughts for a good outcome for Jake.

Hello everyone.
Barbie – Thank you so much for starting us off to a new month. I look forward to your monthly motivational/welcome posts.
Bananas – Sorry you’re having a rough time of it. I understand the female versus male thing. One would think during this time we would still have such big differences in treatment is frustrating. I will be remote for over a year. It appears full return to the office will not occur until the vaccine is readily available which is projected for next summer. Unless the numbers go down which is not happening in the US. Sending positive thoughts your longer test comes out OK. Sorry about the stressful experience.
Barbara – Positive thoughts and prayers for a positive follow up for Joe. Just read the December post – wonderful news. I am glad Joe is going back to the doctor’s recommended treatment even if it hurts.
Tina – Sometimes a new doctor is better because they have different experiences. I lean towards seeing the midwifes/nurse practitioners because they seem to take more time and are more thorough in my examinations. Congratulations on the new Ioniq! What color? I would have gone that route if I had a garage or a parking spot outside of my unit. I am really happy with the mileage I am getting in the Venue – it’s double of what I was getting with Betsy the Beast.
Tracey – Congratulations on the retro-active raise!! My employer used covid as an excuse not to give anyone raises or promotions. It is very interesting the corporate office has hired almost 10 VPs. Some of the titles I had to look up because I never heard of them before. It seems they are making things up to hire friends and family. I am so sorry about the losses. Big hug to you.
Michele – I am surprised NC is just starting those mandates. Since the stores opened back up here at the end of March there is a person wiping down carts at the front of every store. The stores have loosened up with the in one door out the other, but we had that in place for five months with arrows in the lanes.
Beth – So happy the second test was negative.
Lisa – I miss the Sears catalog. It was such a big deal when we received it in the mail. Everyone in the household looked at it.
Work Update – When I logged in yesterday morning over 600 emails welcomed me back. I know it sounds crazy, but the day was not too bad. I was able to catch up and move forward by the end of the day. It will be a busy week since we will be closing out November. I am praying we continue to make our numbers. We are not protected in Florida since it is a right to work State. I would hate to see anyone lose their job over numbers. Corporate can hire VPs but at the rate they are going the VPs will have no employees reporting to them. My division is very conservative when it comes to hiring (they will not hire someone until it is “broke”). My team continues to earn its keep – we pull in enough to pay our salaries and then some, so I am keeping my fingers crossed. I cannot worry over things I have no control over, so I have to let all of those thoughts go. My motto is, hope for the best, prepare for the worst.
My December goal is to get back on track. Over the past four months I have gained eight pounds and I am not happy with myself. It is back to logging all BLTs and getting back into a routine.
Hugs to all and prayers for those in need.

Goals
My main goal for 2020 was to finish my Master's degree, and I have done it!
Despite fulltime work, my husband's severe traumatic brain injury, and a pandemic ... the degree is finished.
What am I doing in December?
-- work - a big submission due before Christmas
-- organising a cycling event that goes this coming weekend
-- decorating for Christmas
-- working on our patio
-- fitness!! More cycling, walking, running and weights
-- dressing room & bathroom organisation & purge
-- website
-- photography
-- computer and paperwork stuff
-- only 4 medical appointments so far this month! But I need to do a lot of prep work for one
-- Grad on December 18
Tonight, I played with some new makeup and nail polish (gel, of course) for my grad, and in particular, my grad photos.
Then my husband and I sorted all the supplies for the cycling event. We have to distribute these to our volunteers.
We are, of course, being careful. The event is all outside and doesn't attract a huge crowd so gathering limitations shouldn't be an issue. We've included gloves and wipes in each volunteer's collection as well as our own. When we divided the goods, we used hand sanitiser.
(Despite the fact that we're still C19-free, most of our businesses have separate In-Out doors or areas, most have hand sanitiser at the door, most still enforce number limitations and distancing with dots and arrows on the floors. Most are doing extra cleaning and most still have the plexiglass barriers at the checkout counters. We've been like that since March and I don't see it stopping any time soon.)

Charsuzie – I haven’t forgotten about the pic. I’m just trying to make as few trips as possible. Maybe next time I have to go downstairs I’ll take the pic. Here's a picture of my DVD collection

My goodness you have an extensive library of exercise DVD's! That's great!
Videos on YouTube have helped me learn how to move around on my mat for 30 minutes. do some beginning Pilates and also use resistance bands. I've not done any with any consistency however so have not progressed in any of them.

Happy December!!!: I plan to get Christmas boxes down from the attic in the garage and start making our home "Merry and Bright." I'm hoping to get the outdoor Christmas tree lighted today. The first step is getting our table in the garage set up and bringing Christmas decorations down from the attic.2

I did well at the end of November being more consistent about dancing nearly every day and going for a walk nearly every late afternoon (5PM). Some days I had time to dance only four dances but on Fridays I dance for over and hour and do at least 15 dances. My late afternoon walks are easy except that the dogs think I'm going to take them out. The last two days, Jake has taken the dogs out through the back door as I leave through the front door.
Barbara, I'm glad to hear that Joe got positive news from the doctor about his eyes.
My favorite thing about the December holidays is the decorations in people's yards. In my neighborhood many people have their lights on in the morning so I can enjoy them when I walk the dogs. This year I have added another walk in the late afternoon so I can see all the lights. I record a few Hallmark movies to watch on TV. Otherwise, we don't acknowledge the holidays at all.
Jake just built a fire in the wood stove so it will be toasty in the house this morning.

Bananas ... I'm sorry you're having a hard time of it right now ... hugs.
Allie ... thinking about you!
Karen in VA ... cat got your tongue?
November/December Goals ... pretty certain my November goals were to be lighter. I didn't get on the scale this month (I usually weigh daily) and the results were a gain, not a loss. I am aware that stress has wrecked havoc with my best intentions. So this month I will get back to what I know benefits me the most. Daily weighing, drinking more water, maintaining a 21/3 IF lifestyle (my window has been widening ... sigh), reducing carbs (especially crackers which I am evidently addicted to when topped with ham salad, cheese or peanut butter) and, most importantly, getting off my duff. I have been way too inactive and can, at the very least during this time, get on my treadmill.
Today the plan is to send out sympathy cards ... four deaths within the last week ... sigh. Yesterday we got two trees up and ready for decorating, so today, we'll also pull out the ornaments.
Beth near Buffalo ... where we greeted December with a light covering of snow that is expected to turn into quite an accumulation.

Barbara - I share your happiness that your DH is communicating with you. It took my husband a long time to learn that was the better way, but he is OK at it now. They were brought up to hide their weaknesses...
I always tell him, whatever weird thing is going on in his head, it can't be much weirder than mine. I think we are pretty well-matched in neuroses!
Good news on the pressures!
My elder son did a live stream video yesterday on YouTube to celebrate his 44th birthday. Just about everything went wrong! He held it together (I know he was very upset and anxious about it) and it all went very well and was amiably funny! I watched it this morning (can't watch live, it makes me too nervous) and texted him to say it made me chuckle. I think he is relieved with all the feedback he is getting that people really liked all the f... ups.
Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good.
Went out for a beautiful walk with DH after lunch. Blue, blue sky, blue, blue sea. Heaven!
I forwent my usual writing session this morning in order to phone my old yoga friend from where I used to live. Chatted for ages! I'm always too tired in the afternoon. It was worth the sacrifice.
Duck legs tonight. Curly kale.

Fred and Fae were always fighting over money. Fae wanted to take the open cockpit antique plane ride at the county fair.
Fred said NO because it was $10 and $10 IS TEN DOLLARS! Fae remarked that be that as it may, it was ONLY a mere $10. Fred repeated $10 IS TEN DOLLARS! The pilot got tired of their fighting and offered to give them the ride FREE if they both could stay quiet during the entire ride.
They both agreed and the pilot determined to collect his $10 did all kinds of tricks and finally did an upside-down stunt. Unable to get one peep out of either of them, he landed and said, "Well that one is free, hey where is Fred?"
"Oh, Fred gets dizzy easy and fell out during the upside-down maneuver," Fae said without emotion.
"WHY ON EARTH DIDN'T YOU SAY ANYTHING?" The pilot exclaimed horrified.
"Because as Fred said, $10 IS TEN DOLLARS!" Fae said smiling.6
