Allie-I do hope you start regaining strength soon-that must be so frustrating. But it sounds like your body is having to deal with surgery and an infection and that is like a double whammy. Just take time to heal-stamina will return.
Like reading your Christmas traditions. I remember most the Christmas eves with the whole family at my moms-she laid out an amazing spread. Even when all the grandchildren were there and things got crazy, it was a wonderful time. We always tried to keep Christmas day low key with our kids. Got in the habit of throwing a roast with vegetables in the oven for our Christmas dinner-kids would play and we would watch movies.
I don't know the Gloria some of you are missing-but she seems to show friendships can be strong even if they are not in-person.
Worked late on budget. Going to get some sleep so I can be back at it early tomorrow. Of course, once it is done and I have budget hearing next Thursday, I can take some time off!
Stay safe all,

Katla, from March until last week, I shopped at QFC and Costco early in the morning with mask and gloves. I shopped with a carefully prepared list to be more efficient and shopped only about every four weeks. A few times Jake came with me and we split the list, used separate carts, and checked out separately to spend less time in the store. When we came home, we stripped out of everything, laundered all our clothes, and showered and washed our hair. Last week the cases of Covid spiked dramatically in our rural county and Jake decided that going into the grocery store was a bad idea and he proposed curbside pickup based on our neighbor's successful experiences for months. I like prowling the store and doing my own shopping but it is important to me to care for Jake's health so I agreed to the curbside pickup. Prices are the same. I know that because I shop for so many of the same things over and over that I know their prices and the price they quote me on the website is exactly what I paid in the store.
Allie, Do not be discouraged. Your body has had a terrible ordeal and it will take time to recover.
I'm home from my after dark walk where I saw more lights tonight than last night.

I’m feeling so very sad right now. I had this crochet hook from my grandmother, and I seem to have lost it.
Allie – your body is healing itself. It just can’t do everything at once and it’s concentrating on healing. I know it’s frustrating for you, but strength will come. Keep moving so that your muscles don’t atrophy
Finished putting the buttons on the towel toppers now to get the masking tape off, which is what I use the crochet hook for. Guess I'll have to go to JoAnn's to get a new one.

I read through last night but didn’t have the energy to take notes.
Lisa - Here they won’t even test for 90 days after a positive. It is causing some issues here for workers whose employers don’t understand it all and are demanding a negative test to allow them back to work.
My youngest daughter gets very upset if anyone else cuts the canned cranberry jelly. According to her it was the first task I ever gave her in helping with Christmas dinner and she takes great pride in doing it.
I love Christmas every single part of it. Growing up my Mom didn’t do too much, we went into the woods and cut a tree with Dad the Sunday before Christmas. The baking and stuff was all at my Grandmother’s houses.
I don’t bake much, just a couple things and pies. I love decorating and buying gifts and don’t find it stressful at all. What I do find stressful is work at Christmas. My 20+ years in the security business it was always stressful because so many clients wanted so much extra coverage at a time when all staff wanted to stay home. Here at the manor last year was stressful trying to get work done with all of the extra activities and such that we did for the residents.
This year is just stressful, on so many levels.
Margaret - your lights are beautiful.
Rebecca - I love, love, love your jewelry tree. Can I ask how the jewelry is attached? I have jewelry that was my grandmothers and velvet to do something like that for my girls and I.
Allie - hope you start feeling better soon.
Work stuffToday was a tough one. Our educator and person taking the lead on interpreting the ministerial orders, making sure we pass all the audits, etc was in the midst of our 4th audit since we’ve been on Outbreak. When she came out of the boardroom, I stopped her to tell her I had ordered lunch for her. She broke down crying. I teared up with sympathy tears. Later my boss had tears in her voice when she told me how many residents we have positive now. It was a tough day.
We are short staffed and these government agencies seem to have more than enough staff to come and tell us what we’re doing right or wrong, but can’t offer help with caring for residents when we need it. So far we have passed all audits with flying colours, if they would leave us alone we could spend more time with the residents though. Very frustrating!
My husband has been busy making Christmas presents for the Grands.
This is a headboard for our 9 year old Grandson, it will have LED lights in the back that will glow through the windows and dragon’s eyes. The posts will be stained mahogany. He is getting an iPod shuffle for Christmas and he’ll be able to have his lights dance to the music.
We’ll be buying him a comforter to go with this.
The jewelry box for our granddaughter is still being finished. I’ll post pictures later. I only pray we’ll get to see them open their gifts.

Pip: Gloria went by her first name as far as I remember. I don’t remember her last name. She was a wonderful woman who was working fulltime and raising two grandsons. I think she lived in or near Lacey, WA.
Allie: I have been wondering how you're doing and seeing your post today was wonderful. I hope you're recovering well. You are missed around here. :flowerforyou:
Barbie: I’m happy to know that the curbside pickup was available to you at the same price as instore shopping. Nice to know that you can get what you need without risking bringing germs home to Jake.
We spent the day setting up our outdoor Christmas lights. It was fun and we’re happy with what we accomplished.

"Get to do"s and "chose well"sChose well: Women’s exam & BP followup, dogs to powerline, post office.
Bonus: Tumble stroll with T. OOPS forgot to zoom BGBS AGAIN. Set alarm for next week.
Get to do: take BP, dogs to powerline, call CD, call R, email info to grantwriter, watch STAS Day 18 (go sniff), submit grant pics and receipts, test Bluetooth speaker so can do BB&B or T’ai Chi from voice recordings, make experimental almond paste, declutter sideboard, practice new dances (I ain’t never gonna love nobody but Cornell Crawford (Alley cat), A Little Less Broken, One margarita, I’m so used to being broke, All Night, Nothing but You, Blame it on my beating heart, Homesick); finish mulching flowerbed; broadcast cover crop seed in veg garden areas, invest another 10 minutes in prepping living trust, Freddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, get Shingrix vaccine, find and configure a screen time popup, figure out where to plant naked lady bulbs, and soon as it warms up above 50 and dries out below 60% humidity I’ll tape and spray paint those rusted areas of Aunt Elsie’s stove.
Reward: inventory seeds, plan next year’s garden, wishlist replenishments.
Do Good December
3: Offer to help someone who is facing difficulties at the moment: check to J tomorrow.
Dear ladies, how do I thank someone for something that didn’t taste good? Overcame my depression era parents’ upbringing and threw it out after one bite.
Lisa re: your cranberry jelly memory, Mama used to slice it with the can lid. :0 I’m too clumsy, I use a butterknife.
Barbie would Jake let you trim his hair if you were willing? Joe was looking quite Biblical last month and asked me to cut his hair. I’d never EVER done anything like that, but armed with a good pair of scissors and a few youtube videos I took the plunge. Came out good enough that he got a compliment from the eye doctor
Welcome @WThyme Thyme from GA !
Heather will the nine lessons and carols be at 3pm London? The time converter I used below. Thanks for letting me know the channel, will try listening on the Sounds App. First time I’ve used it, wish me luck!
Margaret I’m with you about cookie exchanges (sorry Katla) The one I was involved in started out fun, friendly, yummy. But then the competition crept in, the “containers” got more complicated, and the fun, friendship and yummy cookies suffered.
Allie hope the sponge bath, pills and sleep makes you feel better. Thankful you are being well cared for. What the others have said about using this time to rest and let your body heal. You can build the stamina back up after the infection is cleared and the surgery healed.
Tracey your DH has done a great job on your grandson’s headboard. It will be a wonderful memory always. Would he consider posting pics on an Etsy-like site and taking commissions?
Debbie in WVA good to see you! Hope all’s well with you and yours.
Sharon, Penny, Meg, Janetr missing you too!
Fae and Margaret the lights.
Heather I think you may be being too hard on yourself. I see you as a gracious guest, no matter the inner turmoil.
Michele your maid story sounds like when Mama fired all the home health helpers because it was too much work to get Papa up and bathed before they came!
Kelly puhleeze can I be one of your daycare kiddos?
Karen thanks!
Does anyone remember how old Gloria's grandsons were or know what happened to them after losing her?

Long week!! It should have been a reasonably straightforward week, but we were thrown several curve balls ... emails, meetings, discussions, and on and on. The last three days have been chaos ... I'll have to figure out where on earth I am on Monday.
Here I thought that when I finished uni, I'd have some free time!!
When I got home from work tonight, I laid down on the sofa and fell asleep for a while, I was so tired and had such a headache.
Then I had to get up and go grocery shopping for the cycling event we're organising this weekend. I thought I had enough stuff, but in the last couple days we've had a wave of riders sign up so I had to get extras! That event goes Sunday. Tomorrow we'll finish a few little details for it.
Also tomorrow I hope to finish the Christmas decorations and tidy the place.
I am really looking forward to the Christmas break!

Tracey that is how I felt sometimes when I was teaching. Instead of pitching in and helping with students in need you would get the accountability police (figure of speech) making sure they would tell you what you were doing wrong. I particularly found the people who would come in and say they don't act like that when their teacher is here irritating.

Glad to see you sitting up and hope you are able to go home soon.
It's a rainy day here and I am sad because I had hoped to go shopping as my freezer is needing to be filled! Do not want to shop in the rain.

Good morning ladies!
Sorry I've been MIA for a few days, trying to catch up.
Barbie, thanks for getting us into December.
Regarding Gloria, for you newbies, she was from near Olympia, WA - Katla, I think you're right about it being Lacey. She was walking her dog one evening, it apparently got loose and ran across the street. She took off after it and was hit by a car. Allie kept in contact with her daughter so might have a update on the grandkids.
Margaret - your decorations are wonderful, thanks for posting them! Our little street doesn't have any yard decorations this year yet. One reason might be the power company has really raised the rates in our area. We had a couple solar lights on some of the evergreens in our yard that would twinkle at night but the trees have really grown and the lights pooped out. Don't think we'll do it again. I need to make a wreath for the front door this weekend.
Speaking of lights, here's something for you sky watchers to look for. This story is from Colorado but I'm guessing will be visible from all over? https://kdvr.com/news/christmas-star-to-light-up-december-sky-for-first-time-in-800-years/?fbclid=IwAR3Y7b32i7uL5bvc9bL9OfJhltSDH4qDgHi9VkEGgxHhEU7-c2mSLfY9O4M
Here's my dog at the vet story- long so I'll put it in a spoiler:2 days ago I took our old Sophie (13) to the vet for her yearly checkup. Got there a few minutes early, took her out into the grassy area to do her business. She was on the leash of course and sniffing the grass and I turned for a minute to tease one of the poo bags out of the container. I turned and she was suddenly drooling and foaming at the mouth. She fell over and started seizing. I panicked and ran to the car and grabbed the cellphone and called into the clinic - they keep the door locked because of the virus. That's the latest here. Speaking of dogs, someone needs to eat and go outside.
I told them my dog was seizing and finally they sent someone out to fetch her and take her into the clinic. I followed. I was shaking so hard I felt like I was going into shock.
Long story short, she stopped seizing, the vet took blood and checked her over. She was disoriented the rest of the day of course, but has since seemed OK.
Vet called yesterday with blood test results, nothing showed up - she thought Sophie might have kidney disease or other health problem.
After some discussion, it appears it might have been an anomaly caused by stress. Sophie has been on CBD for the past year (purchased at the vet's) to keep her mellow and stop stress licking, so there's a chance she's had some low-level seizures the CBD has been helping all along. From now on, when I take her anywhere, the vet agreed with my idea to give her another dose of the CBD to keep her calm.
In the meantime, we'll keep an eye on her.
Make it a good day!

Lanette sorry for the stress with fur baby. I agree with vet to be proactive so she doesn't have another episode.
So far keeping up with goal to have over six servings of fruits and veggies a day. I am also starting Vit D since it is winter. I am already starting to notice a subtle change.
For those of you who have lost someone there is a song Memories on Voice by children's Choir on you tube that is worth hearing. Tissues ready. It was originally done by Maroon 5.

Barbara, The way I thank people for gifts I didn't want or didn't like is to thank them for their thoughtfulness and great efforts on my behalf. I often give away or throw away gifts if I don't like or want them.
About Jake's haircut, He is very particular about what he wants. It only looks too long for his taste. He has complained about nearly every haircut he's gotten from professionals so there is no chance that I could do anything that would please him.
I think Gloria's grandson's were teenagers which makes her caring for them even more impressive. I think they went to live with another family member.

Good morning! Looks like lots of rain today. So, I guess I will be doing some indoor house painting. I have quite a few room doors and closet doors that need to be updated with fresh paint.
Barbara - Great job tossing the food you didn’t like! It’s fine to appreciate the thoughtfulness without having to eat the gift.
M in Oz - Sounds beyond busy! Happy Christmas decorating. Will you also be cycling?
Carol in GA - I’m forever amazed at how small the internet world can be. I hope that after selling the house I’m living in now, I can downsize to a new home that will still be in the area.
Lanette - So glad to hear that your dog is okay. That sounded scary!1 -

Lanette- poor Sophie! That must have been a shocker for you too.
Allie- keep up the good work. You will be stronger before you know it!
My mom has taken over the grocery shopping again. She goes in the morning before I get up. She is doing the cooking for my Dad again too. Old habits die hard. My dad is pushing exercise for her but she doesn't want to do it. So we are back to the beginning which makes me feel useless. She is still buying excess food and pushing food on me. Oh well, could be worse.

Thank you all for your research about Gloria. I remember her very fondly and was in awe of her tenacity in taking care of those two boys. She often found it very hard, but her love for them kept her going.
Barbara - I usually am able to grin and bear it. The only thing i can't bear is other people's music or radio. My friends and family are all very forgiving of my little quirks! I am a better host than guest though. Seeing someone making a complete mess in the kitchen and not being allowed to help is torture!
My DSIL always produced great food in the end, but the process was painful. She always looked as if she had run a marathon by the end. I always brought homemade Christmas pudding and bread sauce to help out and often peeled veggies, but her kitchen was teeny tiny and her organisation for feeding 8 non existent! I was on edge all the time.
One year I was very abstemious on the main, very late, meal, because I wanted to leave enough room for the pudding. It turned out they always had the pudding in the evening! I was starving ........
DH was told to time the veg because he offered to help. He was so busy chatting and drinking he completely forgot. I knew he had forgotten, but I was so angry with him I didn't remind him.
Oh the joy!
When I do Christmas Dinner I have all the roast veg prepped and blanched and frozen in November! Everything is prepped. It's all run to military precision. I want people to think it appeared as if by magic!
DON'T LET THE PERFECT BE THE ENEMY OF THE GOOD.
