"Get to do"s and "chose well"sChose well: Tumble stroll with T, post office, library (yay!) and recycling.
Bonus: two loads laundry, 45 mins vacuuming.
Get to do: take BP, dogs to powerline, call CD, call R, email info to grantwriter, watch STAS Day 18 (go sniff), submit grant pics and receipts, test Bluetooth speaker so can do BB&B or T’ai Chi from voice recordings, make experimental almond paste, declutter sideboard, practice new dances (I ain’t never gonna love nobody but Cornell Crawford (Alley cat), A Little Less Broken, One margarita, I’m so used to being broke, All Night, Nothing but You, Blame it on my beating heart, Homesick); finish mulching flowerbed; broadcast cover crop seed in veg garden areas, invest another 10 minutes in prepping living trust, Freddie’s for complete series TDAP <$48, get Shingrix vaccine, find and configure a screen time popup, figure out where to plant naked lady bulbs, and soon as it warms up above 50 and dries out below 60% humidity I’ll tape and spray paint those rusted areas of Aunt Elsie’s stove.
Reward: inventory seeds, plan next year’s garden, wishlist replenishments.
Do Good December
4: Give kind compliments to as many people as possible today: D, J, R, T, and Joe.
A tired dog is a good dog. Yesterday was Tumble’s first on leash walk since the beach disaster a few months ago. She pulled mightily all the way out and half the way back, only giving up a little at the end. Today took her back to the same path and voila! She walked nicely beside me with loose leash the whole way. She did bark at 3 of the dogs we passed but not all, and gave it up when I made her look at me. Tomorrow at 1 is dog group, at the same path as today. Do I dare take Tumble there for the first time since pandemic began? Would love to build on this success.
Welcome @juliebeeeee ! Would you let us know what you’d like us to call you and your general locale? Winter blues, work woes, family griefs and the pandemic have given lots of us bad moods. You’ll find cheer, commiseration, wisdom, encouragement and humor here.

Heather Your son’s and grandson’s smiles tell the tale! Hooray for the excellent test results! Thank you for sharing your Christmas Miracle/power of love story. The power of an old atheist’s prayer
Allie, sitting up is good! Taking nourishment? Yes, it IS your turn to be taken care of. Please, please let the healthcare professionals take care of you.
Lanette looking for the Star of Bethlehem is now on my calendar for Dec 21. Thanks! What a frightening event at the vets. Sending healing calming loving thoughts and gratitude for the vet’s CBD and your idea.
Margaret “Memories” gave me chills and tears. Thanks!
Barbie how wise you are to avoid that haircut trap. No amount of loving conversations would convince me otherwise in that case.
Fae thanks for the Gloria links. So very sad. Hope the boys and the dog are ok. “Chili and Broccoli” peeuuww!
Rita had to try it too. Surprised to find other “auntiebk”s especially “Brenda Klutz” we are definitely different, the recipe she posted has two main ingredients I don’t like: zucchini and eggs. Lisa hooray for being where you should be on blood pressure and pulse! Holding good thoughts that this round of antibiotics will do the trick.
Kay oww. How long will it take to heal? What a painful lesson!

Michele Chart was last updated: December 05, 2020, 04:06 GMT. If you click on the tot cases/1m pop the chart will be sorted by cases per thousand people, taking population into account. Today shows the Dakotas, Iowa, Nebraska, Wisconsin and Utah to be the top 6. If you just sorted by total cases regardless of population the big states (Tx, CA, FL, IL, NY) would move to the top, but I think that’s less useful. Illinois is the only state in the top ten either way you sort. https://www.worldometers.info/coronavirus/country/us/ Sometimes husbands can be so thoughtless. Your Vince for not seeming to care that you could slip and fall from his choice to put down 3 piles of wet cat food on the bare floor. My Joe for cutting me off when I was telling him about my blood pressure results. Grrr indeed. Joe shows his care for me in other ways but really cannot bear hearing about health issues. Thankful mine are few and minor. If you don’t have any “goof off” or “goo gone” handy, try rubbing the adhesive with ice. If that doesn’t work, try peanut butter but then you’ll have to wash with Dawn to get the peanut butter oil stains out… update: if the goo gone stains, scrub with Dawn and wash.
Tracey hope you get a good night’s rest and enjoy decorating only as much as your energy level allows. It’s important for you to recharge/rest/restore as much as possible on weekends considering how stressful your workweeks are.
Christmas Eve was when we opened presents, as Papa worked Christmas Day for the double time-and-a-half until we moved to Ukiah. One year Santa Claus actually came to the door to deliver my TinyTears doll. Think I was thrilled, but might have been a scaredy cat crybaby. No other family nearby, all were in St. Louis or Kansas City. Just as well, prepared me for the small, intimate, holidays with Joe. After we moved to Ukiah our Christmas Eve tradition became driving around looking at lights after church, then stopping by the park to watch the “reindeer” graze on the grass. One year there was even a light dusting of snow. Sweet memories.
Our library closed two weeks ago as one staff member came down with C-19. Today they resumed limited services, opened the return drop box, started accepting appointments to use the computers, and delivered held books by buzzing in at the locked back door. Have no idea when they’ll be able to reopen for stacks browsing, but thankful to get the books I’d “held.”

Faetta: I’m sorry the climate didn’t work out well for your Alberta Spruce trees. Are there any pines or fir trees that would be happier in your climate and grow relatively slowly? Potting them would likely limit their growth., which might work out for your situation-–or not. Can a juniper be shaped into a Christmas Tree?
Heather: Thanks for the quotation on being happy by Dodinsky. Choosing what to accept and what to let go is harder than anyone might think. :flowerforyou:
Today was a good day. We finished putting Christmas decorations up and are done with everything but bringing our Christmas tree inside. That will happen in a week or two. I did some other errands, too. It is relatively early, but I’m ready for rest.

Hi all! I've been reading, but not had time or energy to comment, sorry! Just know that I laugh, cry and smack my head with all of you!
I get together with a group of ladies, well, at least I did.... Anyway, several people have come and gone, there's been a core that is still intact, but a few have moved, or moved on. We used to do cookie exchanges, I started to lose interest the year someone brought chocolate chip cookies. I can make my own of them! Then the year that someone made a sort of fruit loaf that wasn't fully cooked in the middle..... ugh. I wasn't crazy about the loaf to start with, the uncookedness just sealed it for me. At that time, I wasn't quite as ready to throw out food, but that went in the garbage fairly quickly and I started not participating in the exchanges. Now most of us are in the same boat, just not up to making a bunch of stuff. I will be making some, our son and daughter in law are cooking Christmas dinner and I offered to bring dessert, Lena was okay with that so I will make some cookies and tarts, (stuff that I like! lol) but won't make a whole bunch. Our provincial health officer is still saying it's okay to see people who are in your cohort or group. Since neither us nor them are doing any socializing, I think we're okay.
I have to admit wearing the mask all day is becoming a challenge, and getting into the car at the end of the workday is such a relief! I can keep the bra on for several more hours, but that mask has to go! lol
Heather, your son is a handsome man! Max looks so happy topping the tree. Lovely school photos of the grands!
Tracey, my heart goes out to you and all those working in care homes. I have no words....
Lisa, good to hear that your heart meds are doing their job, hope the antibiotics do too!
Allie, good to hear from you, just take it slow, let your body heal.
And now I'm out of time again!
Hugs to those needing them, congrats to those celebrating and welcome to the newbies!

Morning, afternoon and evening, all...
Allie - I told my husband I feel like an old truck some days, where once one thing goes wrong, it seems like something else goes wrong every time you drive it. He patted me on the head, and said, "Don't worry, I won't trade you in a new model." I get no sympathy around here... Hope you're feeling better this morning!
Katie - The hand does not look like it's any fun at all...
Heather - Loved the picture of Max on your son's shoulders placing the star!
Barbara AHMOD - Glad your library's still available... even if in limited fashion. I have found I just genuinely can't read traditional books anymore. Between the backlit screen and the ability to adjust the font size to a comfortable reading space, I'm pretty much stuck with my Kindle or My fire tablet...
Later y'all,
Love,
Lisa3 -
Christmas decorations done, I think! I'll post some photos later. It's a bit different from what we've done in previous years but I like it!
I also did some dusting and tidying and vacuumed the floor.
And I finished the prep for the event tomorrow.
Off to bed early so I can get some sleep before the event tomorrow.

Barbara - Of course, you are right about the time! Silly me. Oooops. I had drunk a couple of glasses of red wine to go with my pizza. Yes, 8 hours behind, so you will have to be up early at 7 am. Are you an early riser? It's the 24th. What a great way to start the day! What I like about the timing here is that the service starts in the light and the dusk gradually descends, so it finishes in the early darkness. If you have Christmas lights up it can be quite magical.

Good morning all! Happy Saturday! Before I get busy with everything, this weekend (Christmas cards, grocery shop, holiday baking), just want to send hugs to all who need them. Lisa mentioned her Kindle and whenever I hear Kindle, this is what comes to mind. Add to that memories of Gloria and all of the "friends" we have met/made in this group, brought to mind this song. I believe it was written for the movie The Little Princess (Liesel Matthews version). The lyric is beautiful. Kindle My Heart, Lyrics by Patrick Doyle.
As the moon kindles the night
As the wind kindles the fire
As the rain fills every ocean
And the Sun the Earth
So your heart will kindle my heart
Take my heart
Take my heart
Kindle it with your heart
And my heart cannot be
Kindled without you
Your heart will kindle my heart

Greetings from chilly SFL.
Beth – Sorry about your losses. Snow!
RV Rita – I love your manger. Are those corn husks or palm fronds? Glad you are getting on the mend mentally. Sorry about the other!
Flea – I love your new family member! My friend is extremely frustrated looking for a new cat. He prefers older rescues (7 or so). The shelters here want you to make a decision based upon a picture. All pet people know that is close to impossible – we need to know if there is a personality match.
Terri – Well done with maintenance!
Ginny – Love the drive-through party idea. What a great way to keep up a tradition.
Margaret – Hugs to you.
Thyme – Welcome to the group.
Allie – You’re in the best place. Thank you for keeping us posted. So sorry you’re going through all of this.
Canned Cranberry Sauce – At one time it was a delicacy. Then I started making many things from scratch and found I prefer making cranberry sauce from scratch. I love being able to control the sugar and adding different fruits and spices so I can adjust it to the meal/sides/stuffing.
Tracey – Big hugs and prayers for those in your care. I love the homemade gifts for the grands.
Barbara – Oh, the gross tasting gifts. I find a simple thank you for thinking of me is best. My boss, whom I love, has a habit of bringing in her baking when her and her husband are tired of eating it (especially around the holidays). By the time she brings things in they are usually stale. If she asks or mentions it, I will tell her, oh, I saw them, but by the time I went to get a taste everything was gone. LOL!
Cookie Exchanges – The first and last time I participated in one turned out to be a big disappointment. The planner in me planned a beautiful cookie, got everything together, baked the night before so everything was fresh, bagged them up in decorative bags, and placed them on a decorated tray. Most of the people participating did not bring enough for everyone, some brought cheap, store-bought cookies, some did not bring anything at all, etc. It was probably the “wrong” group and I know I sound a little judgmental. I completely understand some do not bake and want to participate. I do not mind decent bakery cookies or little bags of Hersey kisses. It was funny because this was an annual group and those not “really” participating made such a big to-do over what they brought. Anyway, I digress. I have found I would much rather bake and give then the group participation thing. 😊
Heather – Up until my early 20s I was exactly like you. After a comment by a dear friend who noticed how antsy I used to get I evaluated myself and was able to tamper down my OCD. Now, I am almost the complete opposite. Well, not really, just taught myself to be a little more go with the flow when others are doing the planning. I also had to teach myself how not to plan out every moment of the day, every vacation day, my workday, etc. It has taken years. I am now more relaxed and not so tense all of the time. I no longer grind my teeth, have TMJ, and feel more grounded. Wow, Max is getting so big. What a precious picture.
Lanette – What a scare with Sophie! I am glad it was an anomaly. I wish all of the States would just legalize for general use in humans.
Annie – It seems your mom is just going to do what she does. Big hug to you – you are very patient and kind.
Lisa – Great news on the medical front. I am so glad everything is stabilizing.
DrKatie – Oh, my. Hopefully, you are not in too much pain. Sorry it is your dominate hand.
Work has been busy – month end. Finance continues to close later and later so it puts my team behind. I will have to work a little bit this weekend to get things done. I have a haircut scheduled today – yea! The numbers in FL are crazy and climbing steadily as predicted. The only good thing about it is I am probably getting exposed every time I go out and my body is doing what it is supposed to do – build immunity. Serum tests are not necessary here so I would have to pay out of pocket, if I want one. I can donate blood and get a free serum test so I will have to schedule a blood donation soon. 😊
Fae – Like you I am keeping it simple this year. I have taken out treasured keepsakes and have put up things around the house. I love Christmas lights and put a few up inside my windows.
Roof Update – I believe I told the story of the roofs in my community. They were severely damaged from a hurricane over three years ago. The board fought with the insurance company for years, yes years. The insurance company finally settled, and work has begun. The work is slated to begin on my building Tuesday. I have hated the way our buildings have looked. Instead of an assessment of $25k for each owner, the assessment is expected to be between $7 and $10k. Our fences will also be replaced, and the buildings will get painted. I have put off getting many things done inside of my home due to not knowing how much the assessment was going to cost me. TG we can pay over time and the board worked with the bank for this to be a 10-year loan.
Hugs to all and prayers for those in need.

Poor DH was awake in the night with anxiety about his ailments. He was reading his Kindle, so it didn't keep me awake, but I didn’t sleep peacefully, knowing he was upset. We think, and the doc suspects, it is something to do with his low heart rate at rest. His chest gets wheezy and his head feels 'full'. He is fine in the daytime.
The cleaner has been for the first time in a month. This house doesn't get very dirty, so I'm not noticing a lot of difference. Nice to know it's done though. I can just about see where she's been.
I'm crossing all my fingers and ties that the improvement in my gluteal tendonopathy will continue. I am no longer in agony, just uncomfortable. Here's hoping it continues to improve. It's been miserable. My mood is now much enhanced.
Yesterday I had another good thing happen. I was watching an Easy German video which did not have subtitles. Amazingly, I could understand quite a bit of it, enough to know what they were talking about!
I have tried to learn German since I was 7 years old and had a German best friend. I have had several goes at it over my lifetime, but always gave up discouraged. This time I am working my way through Duolingo for the third time, but also watching at least a couple of subtitled Easy German videos every day. It seems as if that has made all the difference.
I was so delighted to realise I had made some progress! I speak German in my head quite a bit now.
I also do a minimum of one French and one Spanish video a day, often more. Those languages are pretty well established, so just need maintaining.
So two good things to celebrate!

Thanks! My mom is 88. Exercise for her could even be walking around the house for five minutes. I'm scared she will lose the ability to climb the stairs. Not sure what would happen then. My Dad is badgering her about the exercise now, so I have to not overdo it.
Dr Katie - hope your hand gets better fast!

SuziQ Are those all your windows? I love multi-colored lights for Christmas and the holidays. I leave mine up until the middle of Jan. I have never been one to appreciate white or solid color lights for the holidays. Nice photo of the lights. I have trouble getting a good photo because my fence is white. Going over today to help a friend put up her huge tree. I do a small tree that is well known as Fae's Christmas Shrub.2

Tracey: New PJ’s on Christmas Eve is a nice tradition. I remember opening one gift on Christmas Eve, too. Others were opened in the morning before we drove to Portland and shared Christmas dinner at my cousin’s home. We also visited my Auntie Irene’s house. She was a reader, too, and bought me a horse book for my Christmas gift each year. I still have every one of them. I also treasure a book that was a Christmas gift to her as a young girl, Little Women, by Louisa May Alcott, dated 1886 & 1887. She received it as a gift in 1908.
Barbara: We have so many new "rules" these days. If your dog group meets outdoors or in an area with good social distancing and mask wearing owners, it would likely be a pleasure for dogs and people alike, and safe. I hope you & Tumble are able to have a good time with them.
Lisa & Barbara: Our library is also available—sort of. They participate in Library to Go. It is managed through Amazon and the electronic books are able to be downloaded to your computer, kindle, tablet, or smart phone. You must have an up-to-date library card to to check out books through Library to Go. I had to renew mine, and the librarian met me outside on the steps to update my library card. Only staff was allowed inside. I think it is still true.
KJ: Kindle my Heart is so touching. Thank you for sharing.
(((Allie:))) I am happy that you are safe.
SuziQ: I’m glad the insurance company finally settled & your roof will be repaired. :flowerforyou:
Heather: I am so sorry that your DH had trouble sleeping due to worries about his ailments. I hope the doctor is able to resolve the problem.
We’re working on Christmas gifts for our adult children. DS and DDIL’s gifts were settled yesterday. We already sent our contribution to DD’s children’s gifts. DD & her DH’s gifts will be attended to on Monday. Then we’re done!!!

Beth – Sorry about your losses. Snow!
RV Rita – I love your manger. Are those corn husks or palm fronds? Glad you are getting on the mend mentally. Sorry about the other!“
Thank you SuziQ! The manger is made out of corn husks. I live the look of it, it is light for RV storage and amazingly tough!
Allie praying for you. As bad as being on the hospital is, enjoy the attention and caring! Time for you to receive it rather than give it!
My mood is much better, thank you all for the virtual support! I’ve let it go. My middle DD has always been that way. She’s always mad at someone and it was my turn!
Mailed my Christmas cards out and shipped Christmas gifts out. Family Christmas done! I’m making hats for all my Park family. Only 2 to go!
Just finished the low carb plan on MFP. 4 weeks of some amazing recipes. I did it for the recipes. I’ve been low-carb for 2 years now. But recently found I can’t handle gluten. I was tested for celiac disease and was on edge. I think I’ve gone over the edge. For me, no gluten = no bowel pain and bloat.

Lisa - Trading me in for a younger model is something Rodger would tell me. 😂
Allie - I’m so glad they are keeping you until everything is working properly and you have begun the healing. I bet you are one that wouldn’t rest as much as necessary at home.
Suzi - that’s a huge difference in the assessment fees! Good for the board for fighting.
Fae - I so agree about the white lights. I’m all about the coloured lights at Christmas. One thing I will say about the white lights is that the ornaments are highlighted a bit more. I have some white lights in decorations but my outdoor lights, window lights and tree lights are coloured. I see quite a few in our area have gone back to coloured this year.
Katla - my daughter had one of my Grandmother’s treasured storybooks from when she was a little girl from 1915 or so. It was lost due to water damage in the fire we had. She now has some of her old readers from her teaching days in the 30’s and 40’s.
She also has one of my Dad’s readers called All Sails Set, there is a story in that called Circumstances Alter Carla, I loved that story as a young girl.
I have found another project for my poor husband to do before Christmas. Our son in law, saw something he liked and I can’t have it delivered before Christmas so we’ll make it ourselves. It will involve wood burning though so the majority of the work will fall on him.
I have a couple of stocking stuffers left for the adult children and then I think I’m done except for our poor son in law, I’m struggling with him this year. There is always one.

We just picked up our groceries at QFC. There were some items not available but the things that we couldn't get last week, were available today. I was able to use the paper coupons I get in the mail so I saved $5.90 on today's order. They didn't have the stuffing mix I wanted nor the turkey and I realized how relieved I am at being freed from making turkey this year.
Rita, I'm glad to hear you have some relief from your sadness about your daughter. She is what she is even if it's not what you'd like.
Library Our library was closed from March to June. Now it is open for pickup and delivery outside. Checking out electronic books via Washington Anytime Library and Hoopla has been available all the time. I also get books through Paperback Swap online.

Starting to put up our tree. I am taking the branches outside and letting them air out before I put it together. The tree is over twenty years old and part of it is stored in a cardboard box. I just learned this year. Cardboard can harbor mold so I figured an airing in sunshine would be good for the tree. I can do it this year too because we do not have snow that is sticking yet.5
