Barbara AHEM AHEM! Adult salted caramel fudge? I too would hope it doesn't taste like Joe's juvenile fish sticks.0

Edie's individual Zoom is in half an hour.
She has been off school for two weeks, for the second time, poor thing. So we've been banned from seeing them, even outside.
Johnny's quiz - Roman Sanitation.
I had a mini trip out to the local shops, really to find someone to talk to as I haven't been outside for a couple of days.
I ordered lots of stuff at the butchers, then went over to the flower shop, run by two gay guys. They are always up for a chat! I bought birthday cards to put in the drawer.
Then I went to the deli and found nice things and milk.
Then I went back to the butcher to pick up all my stuff, including pigs cheeks. I found a long queue had developed, so I asked those at the head of it if I could go first to pick up my order. They were very happy to let me in. Turned out they were two older gay guys, putting in their Christmas turkey order, so we had a great chat while we were waiting, in true Hove style. This is the friendliest place I have ever lived. I told them about the beach event on Christmas Day.
Now we are very excited to see Edie!
Allie - hope you can get something sorted so you have someone with you for a few days.
Kim - Hope things are ok with you. I know your lockdown is strict.

Karen - thank you. When the choir began again, it made me break down and cry. I wasn't that sure I could cry anymore, honestly. Too many tears over the course of this year to believe I had any more to give.2

I love those flash mob things. Thank you Karen! Wonderful!
There was a very moving one on 'Soul Music' this week, for the song Lean On Me. A town in the UK had had a lot of shop robberies, so someone organised a flash mob, starting in the supermarket, to sing the song, and they gradually moved down to the newsagents who had been brutally robbed. Very, very touching. It's available on BBC Sounds App. I did pipe my eye as I was rowing.
Well, it turned out Max was off school with a bad tummy, so we had him first with his quiz on Tudor music, followed by Edie with hers. I told her lots more fascinating facts about Roman toilet habits. She wants her next quiz to be on 'Granny'. She is fascinated by my trick of waggling my ears. Plus I can juggle three balls.
Now off to row for half an hour before I roll out our pizza.

Allie, continuing to pray for you.
I got my stitches out yesterday and a much smaller splint for my pinky. I can type with two hands again except for the pinky so that does speed things up a bit. I've hired a neighborhood teenager to wrap all my Christmas presents and have a housecleaner coming on Monday. Life is good!
In case anyone is interested in my latest venture, I was on a podcast with my District Superintendent and Bishop. I will put a semi-link in a spoiler. I really don't expect anyone to watch the whole thing, but I am the one in the yellow sweater if you want to get a look and hear my voice. It is the latest "At the Table" podcast about clergy lay partnerships at ngumc.org . The Bishop and DS do talk for a while before they let me speak and the DS mispronounced my name, but then most everybody does. LOL.7 -
Kim: I am delighted that you made it to here. I’ve been missing you.
Heather: I haven’t seen any of my friends in a long time. We’ve been sequestered at home, other than grocery shopping. In the summer we were able to visit with neighbors outside on our deck, but not recently. :ohwell:
Barbara: I hope your salted caramel fudge was not “fishy.” I haven’t seen or heard of AKC TV. We see dog shows via our satellite TV provider. We live out of range of he on the air channels in Portland. I’d love to see the dogs. Our old dog had cancer surgery a few months ago and is now doing spectacularly well. Schooner is a Keeshond and I’ve never seen one in the winner’s circle at an AKC show. :grumble:
Allie: Good news that you get to go home!!!! Three cheers!!! DH uses walkers everywhere. They are a blessing for him and will be for you while you recover. I hope your sister-in-law gets in touch soon.
Karen in VA: Thank you so much for Ode to Joy! I needed that this morning.
We have dark cloudy skies and a wet deck outside this morning. I have a bit of Christmas decorating to do. I plan to start transitioning our living tree to indoors. It will be in the garage for a day or so before we bring it into the house and decorate it.
The Annual Christmas Ships Parade is scheduled to visit our town tomorrow. I look forward to it. Boat owners put wonderful light displays on their boats and give everyone a great show. They typically parade in Portland nightly and visit here once a year. The city hosts a meal for them in ordinary years. I’m not sure whether that part of the tradition can be kept this time, but I hope so. Weather today is not encouraging. We will have a good view of the parade from our windows. We usually invite guests for dinner on Christmas Ships night, but not this year. :grumble: :ohwell:

Dr Katie- Found it! Lovely to see and hear you! I had no idea you are such a southern gal. Where are you from?
Did you know that it is a family tradition that one of our ancestors is a Wesley?! Must be Charles, I guess. Yesterday's In Our Time on BBC Radio 4 was about John.

Barbara... I want to be at your house when those adult confections come out of the oven... and I would happily be your taster. Caramel is my soft spot, otherwise I can leave sweets alone.
Katla... such a nice idea to think of traveling to see the family with the RV. I think the vaccine is giving hope for so many of us.
Allie... you're in my thoughts and prayers... good luck with a healthy eating plan. My husband has severe heart failure and really hasn't changed his diet significantly. I tried nagging but that made both of us miserable and it didn't change his eating habits. Wishing you well.
No luck on the kitchen range hunt yet. I have to make the opening for the stove a full 30" and then look again. The old stove was only 29 inches and the counter is tile... Yikes. Will be my weekend project.

I am happy you are being released. What kind of changes to your diet are they asking you to make?

Hanging in there as best as I can. All of the vaccine talk is a little depressing. Trying not to be discouraged. I had personally decided not to get the vaccine, to make sure people who need it have plenty, and now it looks like I wouldn't be able to get one, even if I did want one. I wanted it to be my choice, and that the choice will likely be taken from me, sent me down a dark path. My husband thinks I'm being too pessimistic. He keeps thinking he will have a vaccine in him in a couple months. He's dreaming.
Classes are done. All trips have been cancelled (We were to leave for Kauai on Saturday). Well, I guess, technically, the Fiji trip isn't cancelled, just rescheduled for March, but neither of us thinks it will happen then either. And I am really trying to minimize my contact with those outside my home. I did come into work today, because there are some things I don't have access to from home, but hardly anyone else is around, so distance is easy to maintain.
I need to crawl out of this pit I'm falling in to.
Take care.

Karen: Thank you for the flashhmob music. We all need Ode to Joy. It is a favorite of mine.
Allie: Time with Jean & her family is a nice transition on your way home. You won’t be left alone until you are ready. It is great that you have confidence in your heart doctor. :flowerforyou:
Betsy in WA: DH has some advice to share with you. He suggests that you ask the business you’re buying the stove from for recommendations for a reliable handy man to do the installation. Perhaps you already have that set up. Keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well.
Flea: We have been following the vaccine plans from Kate Brown, and they seem sensible to me. Medical people and first responders are first, elderly and high risk next, and then others. It appears to be instated over time. So far, I haven’t seen anything newer than that. DH & I are likely to be in the second group. Plans have a way of being changed when new information arrives, so I could be wrong about some of the details. What I read was a two-stage vaccine inoculation. You get the first and a few weeks later get a second. When? Not sure. I think it may start by mid-January.
DH & I are planning an RV road trip across the country some time next year. We hope to take the dog and ourselves to see our adult kids and grandchildren after we’ve been vaccinated against the Covid Virus. I am hoping this can come true.

Oh, yes. I agree that the plan is sensible. I was just hoping to be listed somewhere in the plan, and neither my husband nor I are. It's okay. We can just keep doing what we're doing to avoid getting sick. I am just getting really weary and was hoping to see an end to our safety measures.
Rant from my dark place, so read with caution.I became discouraged because I heard a news story where the NBA players are negotiating for vaccines for themselves and their families. I think they will probably get them, because the story I heard said that they would refuse to play without them. I see this happening as we get into the program. (https://www.bulletsforever.com/2020/11/9/21556575/pfizer-biontech-coronavirus-vaccine-nba-impact-washington-wizards) Those with power/money will negotiate the vaccines for themselves. Perhaps not necessarily taking them from first responders, medical personnel, and those in congregate care facilities, but for sure pushing those of us without power or status to the bottom. Every report I have heard states that even at full capacity, we will have enough vaccines for only about 70% of the population. I am fairly certain that my family and I will end up in that 30% without, especially since we are in a state that is actually doing pretty well, considering the rest of the country.
Never mind the special cocktail Trump and his allies have gotten. Rudy actually said he didn't think we needed any mask mandates or shut downs because Covid 19 is "treatable." (https://www.forbes.com/sites/jackbrewster/2020/12/10/giuliani-acknowledges-his-celebrity-status-helped-him-receive-preferential-covid-19-treatment/?sh=6d5bf9f1b39b) Remember Trump saying after he "recovered" that he would make Regeneron available for "all Americans" for "free"?? Just sick of it.
In the meantime, we got word this morning that the mother of one of our student's died of COVID last night. Where was her miracle treatment?
I hope you get to do your RV road trip. That is a great way to see family and stay safe!
Take care. I know you are.

Flea: I guess I'm past some levels of pride and don't really mind being referred to as elderly. I'm grateful to be able to go for vaccinations with DH who is at high risk. We're both over seventy. :ohwell: The planned road trip in our RV will be the biggest/longest for both of us. I hope we will be up to it next spring.1

Agreed! I am hopeful my mother will be on a list somehow. She just turned 80, but I don't know if she would be considered high risk or not; I mean, by age, yes, but she doesn't really have any other documented issues.
