@exermom I don't know if it helps but here they sell thin silk gloves or undergloves that really keep hands warm if worn under other gloves. I wonder If it would be possible to wear them under plastic gloves when it gets cooler. For the cheese cubes, if it comes up again, maybe paper cups or cardboard soup containers with covers?
@pipcd34 sorry you are feeling under the weather. awesome about being 1st in your age range in the run.
I barely left my bed yesterday. I could do the same today. But I'm gonna go out and do some food shopping and maybe a little walk. My mood is in my socks as they say here. (not high) I'm finding it hard to find it motivating to act when we see a life with little other than staying at home (alone for me) in the next 6 months or so. I live in a 2 room apartment with a balcony in Paris, that I'm trying to freshen up.
I find I want to do little that doesn't involve lying in bed, eating, or going for a little walk in the neighbourhood (alone - we are not allowed to assemble at present I think), or obligation (work), and even many obligations I'm way behind on.
Usually my motivation is higher or less low, but I'm not in a period where I love being alone. When I was in my early 20s I was a real loner. I loved doing stuff alone: walks, museums, reading, art work, other work, writing...
Grateful: comfy bed, running hot and cold water, breakfast, maple syrup, computer still works, some pleasant students, some pleasant colleagues, grocery shops right across the street, can still walk, being in a walking city, cleaner, green tea, teapot,
Good things done: corrected about 25 texts, ordered stuff online finally, a load of laundry
Things I aim to do today: food shopping(30 min), dishes(10 min), laundry (10 min), water plants (2 min), walk (1 h or so), breakfast (20 min)
I don't know for the rest of the day. I have many more things to do, but have been dragging. Teaching is winding down. My crazy period with 9h of classes on Mondays (8:30-8pm) is over. Tomorrow I have 4h in morning and 2h in evening. 6h is still a very full day of teaching, but I hopefully won't feel like I'm just recovering most of the week. Then 4 h Tuesday, 4h Wednesday, and then no classes till the new year. Next year is lighter, after early January, I will have classes Monday afternoon and evening, Tuesday morning, and Thursday morning. I have far more classes 2nd semester than 1st semester.
Usually if I have nothing planned I go to a budget hotel by the seaside for a couple of days or so for a holiday, but if restaurants and cafés and all events, tours, etc, will be closed, that doesn't sound ideal for winter holidays.2 -
Barbara - this is an edited screenshot of the one I bought. It's just black plastic, but you can move the platform up and down, which I like. Plus it's foldable. You can use it to hold the phone horizontally as well.

Greetings from sunny SFL.
Oh, I have a lot of catching up to do and will attempt to catch up in my next post. Standard month end close busyness has kept me silent along with lots going on in the development.
On Wednesday stage one of the roofing project started on my building. Oh, the banging and general noise was enough to drive anyone crazy. Prior to roofing company starting everything in the courtyard had to be moved and/or brought inside. Some before, during an after pictures are provided within the spoiler. I did not want to use up a whole page posting pictures. 😊
This is what the roofs have looked like for the past three years. I had forgotten to take a picture of the side of my building where there was a big patch where a section of the mansard was ripped off from Hurricane Irma.
This is what it looked like on Wednesday during the rip down. I could not leave the house while this was going on for obvious reasons.
Same day – tar paper up and ready for first inspection. Yesterday the tin tag team was back to add rows and rows of tin tags so it was a day of listening to the nail gun for hours on end. 😊 Now we wait for another inspection. Once inspected the shingles will go up.
Once the shingles go up the top of the roof will be replaced which has its own rounds of inspections. Once completed the balcony railings and buildings will be painted. And, then we wait for all of our fences to be replaced. We will be a work in progress for quite some time. I am excited to see how new the buildings will look once all of the work is completed.
I am so incredibly happy the work has started and has become a reality. You can all imagine how dreadful it has been pulling up to our development and seeing how bad everything has looked. Not only will things look brand new it will also bring up our unit values. Yeah!!
I will be posting a few funnies and then catch up!
Hugs to all,
SuziQ – SFL

And, to show just how crazy I can be from time-to-time.....
I decided since I have so much time on my hands I would buy a puzzle. I have never bought a puzzle or have completed one by myself. Puzzling has always been something I would do if a friend had one started, but it was never a hobby. Do I buy a small one? Do I buy an easy one? No, for some darn reason I felt an 1,000 piece mystery puzzle was the way to go. It drove me crazy! I did manage to get it done in a week. Every time I walked by it I could not help myself - I had to stop and work on a section. The plan is to mount them and create a puzzle one in the guest bedroom.
There is no picture of the actual finished product and I did not cheat and go online to see what it would look like once completed. It certainly was a challenge. I separated pieces by color/pattern after putting the edges together.
Did you know puzzling is good for the brain and helps with keeping it healthy? Did you know there are no official names of puzzle piece shapes? Did you know puzzles for adults emerged sometime during 1900 and became a rage by 1908? Did you know the first puzzle dates back to around 2250 BC? As you can see I became a little obsessed and had to do research while putting this one together. Now I will be able to answer some puzzle questions on Jeopardy. LOL!!6 -
Morning ladies
I am up and uncomfortable its not actually my body that hurts its the darn defibrillator box that i have to lug around and because this thing is skin on skin which think of a 8x 6 inch box that weights about 5 lbs ,but hey it could save my life so there is that.
I get to take it off for a shower. So once Sean is up and moving and taking care of Faith ill sneak in for shower...packing by myself friday while Jean was out in the car ,i think my mind was impaired ,i was exhausted and just grabbed anything.much that doesn't fit except for stretchy pants,I have some nice oversize long sleeve t shirts that will work great...
Im also going to pick up some nutritional shakes, because im not up to eating.5 -
SuzieQ I start my day with a mini crossword puzzle from AARP . There is also a word game I like to play. I haven't done a puzzle in a few years. I did try some on line a few years back too. My goal is to get myself painting again. The first step is finding something I want to paint.0

Yes, my dears it is a marathon catch up. I will do my best to comment.
Tina – I so agree with your insurance comment. We could have taken the palsy initial payment which would have left us with assessments of $25k each. The insurance companies play the game and keep many attorneys and engineers employed. It is just a darn shame it takes so long. But, the insurance companies are in it to make money so this is the game we all must play.
Fae – Yes, those are all of my windows/sliders. Technically I do not have windows, just 4 sliders. I live in a townhome. There are 4 units per building and each unit is L-shaped. It provides the feel of having a private home without all of the outdoor responsibilities. Actually, I love all white or colored bulbs. This year I decided to use the multicolor ones because it was the first box I came across while decorating.
Katla – One of the reasons I decided to do a puzzle was because of the lack of anything decent on TV. Or it could be I am just tiring of it.
Heather – I agree with you regarding hearing a little something when I get a Christmas card. Especially from those I have not spoken with in a while. I also take the time to write a personal message to everyone. My card list has certainly dwindled over the years. If I do not get a card from someone or some type of acknowledgement for two years they are off the list – LOL.
Dust mites – Eucalyptus will keep them away. When I pack up the seasonal decorations I toss in a few dried stems into every box.
Barbara – Yes, insurance is a scam. Every policy has a deductible. Many will purchase an umbrella policy to cover what the insurance will not cover. Florida has some of the highest insurance rates because we live in hurricane ally. If we had 100% coverage our monthly dues would increase by at least $300 a month so we take a gamble by not purchasing full coverage.
Ginny – So happy the foster party was a success! What a nice gift for each family.
Allie – Sending prayers and positive thoughts. You are in the right place. TG the a-fib situation occurred when the nurse was in your room.
Lisa – I love the Bisquick Incredible pies. I go through spurts – I had not made one in a year or so. Then remembered how good they were and made two a few weeks apart. Great for any meal of the day. 😊
KJ – Oh, no 33 and a hoarder!! You have got to love your son’s girlfriend.
Tracey – I so agree with you on home ownership. Both a blessing and a curse. Love the puppy pictures. I am so incredibly happy you were able to have a video chat with your mom!
Margaret – I did not know Lilac also keeps away bugs. I will have to try that too!
Cheri – Good to see you’re still crocheting. One day I may teach myself. It was something my grandmother on my father’s side took up after she retired.
Rori – Love you’re Christmas greeting card! I am sending positive thoughts and prayers everything works out with the Medicaid application.
Machka – So glad the biking event was successful and you had good volunteers.
Karen – WONDERFUL NEWS!! So happy Josephine is home for good!!
Up to page 20!! Will sign off for now as the morning waits for no one. A work friend made me a wreath and is dropping it off sometime today. She loves brownie brittle so I must make a batch up. It takes some time for it to harden in the oven. TG she is a late starter – LOL!
Hugs to all,

There are some amazing holiday light displays near us, so last night we went for a drive and looked at them. We ended by driving around our neighborhood so Jake could see the lights I've told him about from my nightly walks.
Jake is delighted with the haircut he got from my morning walking friend. He plans to have her come back in a few weeks to do it again.
This morning we'll pick up our groceries from QFC. This time we checked a few boxes to allow substitutions so I'll be interesting to see if they had to make substitutions and what they were. The one item they couldn't supply is canned pumpkin.
Today I'm wearing my sweatshirt that says "Chop wood, Carry water" to remind me to do what's necessary and stay in the moment.

No work today, but work tomorrow from 7 to 11.
Julie – if you’re busy (like I am now), read and just let us know that you’re OK. We all care and get concerned when we don’t hear from a regular (or anyone else for that matter)
Bananas – we got word that they aren’t having the bowling party so I don’t have to worry about the cheese. So in a way it was probably a blessing in disguise that I forgot about it! I hope you’re feeling better
SuziQ – ROTFLMAO at the memes. I did a cat 1000 piece puzzle. Honestly, doing them is addictive. Like you, I found that I couldn’t pass it without doing some. Actually, I had to put a timer on the table where I had it. One time Vince’s pizza burned before I put the timer down there. Also, I’m sure this has happened to you, after a time you find yourself trying the same piece over the over even tho it didn’t fit the first time. Many times you’ll suddenly “see” a piece that’s been right in front of you when you give yourself a break and come back to it. What a neat puzzle. Here’s mine
I want to do some 500 piecers for Christmas gifts for Jess, Denise and two friends of ours. I think that’ll be a different type of gift. I just don’t know that I’ll have the time to do 1,000 piecers for each of them. Plus, I am sure Denise wouldn't appreciate all the work that goes into a 1,000 piecer
Allie – I find that once people get home (or I should say out of the hospital) they get better faster. I’m sure you will, too.
Made more lemon bars this morning. I just want to be sure that I have enough for Friday when Ken & Lynette come here and then for Saturday which will be our Christmas.
Speaking of Christmas (well, sort-of) Vince was saying last night (we went to Lowe’s Hardware and then WalMart so it was just the two of us) that when we were in Iowa Jess was very emphatic about the fact that she wanted to work at Banfield to earn money. Seems there’s some test she needs to take and it’s well over $200. She couldn’t apply for her background check until Colby made up his mind about Idaho. By the time he made it up, it was too late for her to get the check. Now she’s a bit p***ed at him for being so indecisive. Honestly, if it were me, I would cancel Idaho so she can work. But I don’t want to say anything (except here and to Vince)

Hello everyone.
Yes, another marathon catch up from me! I had forgotten to mention we had our first cold front last week. We went from the mid-80s to 44! Talk about being cold for days on end. This morning started out at 66 so it’s much more seasonable! 😊
My time away consisted of making brownie brittle which is in the oven cooling (yes, to dry it out), cleaning the downstairs guest bathroom (powder room – remember that term – LOL – no longer PC), vacuuming the downstairs tile, cleaning up the brownie brittle dishes and putting away, and prepping a load of laundry.
Lisa – So happy to hear your stamina is building. I am so sorry your health issues have taken such a toll. Kuddos to you for not giving up!
Tina – I somewhat wish FL would shut down a little more. Other than political reasons which I will not mention here I feel since we are both in hot spots every time we go out we may pick up a germ or two. And, then our bodies do what it is supposed to do – build immunity. I am very fortunate to live in a warm weather State where we can spend lots of time outside.
Allie – Thank you for keeping us posted. Oh, my dear – sending prayers and positive thoughts. I am glad you have a place to go so you can recuperate.
Machka – Conferred!!! Finally! Congratulations!!!!!
Barbie – Sorry to hear about your fall. I have to look up coral bark. 😊
Tracey – Sorry about the day at work, but am hopeful the human race will prevail. What an act of kindness by your former boss.
Debbie – I am so glad your mom received her tree. Please be sure to post the results of your marathon candy-making weekend.
Margaret – So happy for you being able to spend some mom and son time. I love the creativity of your annual newsletter.
Azalea – Welcome to the team. You’ll find we are all on different plans and phases of our journeys.
Sandy – Welcome. My stepmom was named Sandy. Please stop back often and know you are not alone!
Thyme – Welcome to a great group.
Heather – Johnny is certainly patient. I imagine his daughter is very stressed. A home purchase is a big commitment. Heck, I was stressed thinking about and finally purchasing my new car which isn’t 1/10 of the expense!
KimATX – Welcome. Oh, we have the same thing in common – great start – horrible maintenance! I have gained a little over the past three months and must get back to better habits. I think this whole year has been a challenge for most of us.
Annie – My new vehicle does not have SirusXM but I can plug in my phone and play both Pandora and SXM. I love Pandora because I can search by artist and the station selected typically plays songs of the same genre. I also search and listen by type of music which is fun too.
Pip – Yogi looks so happy on the beach. What a handsome pup! That leaf! OMG! It’s huge. Beautiful pics of the seafront.
Mary – Hi – glad to see your post.
Page 25 – I am getting there!!!

Keeping bugs away; lavender yes! I have also successfully used: cinnamon, orange flower essential oil, and some others. It depends on the bug.
HOME OWNERSHIP: I'm a renter and landlady. Used to own my own place and may (or may not) sometime again. When I expressed to my late then real estate agent step mother regrets about not having bought much before age 40 ("5 years of rent down the drain") she said that was 5 years I didn't have to worry about x, y and z. She is right too.
@grandmallie it's great to hear from you.
I went for a little walk and did all on my very short list today. I popped by the upscale bakery. I wasn't really hungry but wanted to buy something so got, for the 1st time, their GF carrot cake. Strangely the fancy pastries are 7 euros per person and the carrot cake for about 4 people at least is also 7 euros. I'm not a carrot cake fanatic, but this is their only CF cake. (They have many fancy GF pastries). It was good. what I like, aside from the GF aspect and the upscale aspect is that it's not too sweet. Here are some of the pastries. About half are GF. I left the French comments from a website for the francophiles.

Barbara: Time flies when everyone is in lockdown. :noway: :grumble:
SuziQ: I am impressed by your tenacity with the puzzle.
Michele: I hope things work out for your daughter. :flowerforyou:
The Annual Christmas Ships Parade last night was fun, and it was great that they had a nice turnout of boats for the parade. We watched from our upstairs bedroom window. We stayed toasty and warm. I suspect they all dressed warmly for the event. Today they are resting and will start back toward Portland using the Multnomah Channel this evening. I understand they’ll put on a show for Scappoose, the next town up river from here. I don’t know whether they’ll spend the night at Scappoose or just keep going toward Portland. Their lighted parades are an annual treat for us.
Today I will bring our living Alberta Spruce tree into the garage to start aclimatizing it to indoor temperatures. Luckily it hasn’t been really cold here, so the transition should go well for the tree. Tomorrow I hope to decorate it in the house.

Yes, it’s me again! Are you tiring of me yet?
It is somewhat fun getting caught up with big reads and commenting, although behind in the conversation.
Since the last break I have had a visit with one of my coworkers (outdoors and masked). She made a wreath for me and I made brownie brittle for her. Here’s a picture. It’s non-traditional. I love the colors. The pic is taken at a weird angle. Also caught up with the neighbors, ran to the grocery store, and a visit to Walmartians!
KJ – I was reading the kids menu for the week and my thought still remains. I want to be one of your kids. I know I say it over and over. They are so very fortunate to have you in their lives. Those early years are so important - you are helping grown some very fine adults.
Betsy – Oh, no right when the turkey was going in?! Hope you were able to find something you like.
Lisa – Egg is just QA’ing it. Looks like it has passed the sleep test! LOL!
RVRita – Sorry to hear about your infection. Hopefully the doctor is able to get you back in shape so you can get out and enjoy yourself.
Allie – Glad you in the right unit and get a shower! You must feel like a goddess now. It’s amazing how the little things are those that keep us going. Wow, your f’in SIL. Sorry – but you do so much for her and she could not just be home. Glad to read a little further on she is picking you up.
KJ – Ginger is easy to grow here in the tropics. A little advice – grow it in a pot. It will and does spread very quickly and will take over your garden.
Kim – Glad to see your hello!
DrKatie – So happy you are on the mend and have some use of your hand! It must be a real pleasure.
Flea – Head up! Remember even if you cannot get it there are enough germs and those who will eventually get it that herd immunity will kick in. So sorry to hear about your student’s mother. I wish I had words of wisdom regarding your rant. I always think to myself there is always someone worse and better off than me. I am where I am supposed to be. You can send me a virtual slap. 😊
Machka – You may want to research those who should not get the vaccine if you have a lot of allergic reactions. For the version her in the States they are stating those with a lot of allergies should not get it. To your point future variations may be more stable.
Page 28 – getting closer. Must stop for a bite to eat and some chores. Will touch base later this afternoon/evening.
Best to all.

Thank you ALL for the warm welcomes. I am sure I'll get better at knowing and replying more personally soon. I am going to try to check in and post daily, as part of my 'improvement' plan. I also love the suggestion someone had of 'just go for a walk'. I have the best places to walk around here, three blocks to the intracoastal looking out at gorgeous islands then the gulf, a pond down the block full of shore birds and ducks, and a very awesome shady park full of nature trails, too. And this time of year, if I walk in the dark, the holiday lights are fun.
I think what trips me up is sitting down at the computer in the morning. I generally start off thinking I'll just check my work emails really quick before my walk and next thing you know it's 7pm. At least, that is how it seems to me. Maybe I'll make a rule, no computer til walk or yoga is done.
A friend posted some pics from a trail in CA where I did my first ultramarathon 50K run a million years ago. It made me a little sad to think how far I'd come from that late 30s fit woman to this late 50s blob I feel like now.
However, looking backwards isn't helping me...time to look forward and to get to know some new motivated friends, too (you!)6 -
SuziQ: I love the Christmas Ball wreath. It is festive and gorgeous!
Annabanana: Welcome! Post often and get to know us.
Today I brought our living Christmas tree into the garage to start acclimatizing to the warmer temperatures inside the house. It is an Alberta Spruce & lives in its pot in our yard the rest of the year. Tomorrow I hope to bring it into the living room and decorate it with lights & our favorite ornaments.

katla - well, what happens is her choice. To be honest, I'm a bit surprised she's staying with him. If he frustrates her so much, you would think she'd move on. But obviously not. I'm wondering if she feels a sense of "obligation" to him because he's paying the rent etc. I'm thinking that he's probably paying the airfare to go to Idaho. Another thing is that he works with computers, I don't totally understand, something about supporting internet to outlying areas. But he doesn't have a college degree. I know, I know, almost all the time a college degree doesn't mean much. But it does open doors for your job. He has indicated that he really doesn't have a lot of friends in Iowa and there really isn't much social life. Why he isn't going to college online to fill his time is beyond me. Vince's career was in IT. Could that have something to do with it??
You know, I realized that no other store has someone who constantly cleans the shopping carts. I know there's something about they got a government grant. No other store did???? Actually, I had to return something to Amazon so I went to Kohl's to return it, and someone cleaned a cart for a lady. I would think that would be even more effective. Offer someone a cart and clean it right in front of them. But then again...who am I?

Well i did 2 important Christmas Presents...
I got Omaha Steaks with lots of fish options for both Sean and Jean/Faith and for Tom and Elena if not for the 4 of them dont know where i would be..
Crappy weather moving in ,so might end up.doing some telemed visits
Tomorrow we set off for the anticoagulation clinic and then the PT at 1 and that will be my day...honestly you dont know how much surgery knocks the stuffing out of you...5 -
SuziQ - love watching you catch up. I know that everyone understands when we respond as and when we can, and enter conversations at will, so I put away the guilt years ago for not catching everyone up in the responses. Admire those who do, like you, and am grateful for you. Love the jazzy wreath.
AnnaBanana - definitely time to put away who you were at 30 - not because she is not worth the memories and the effort and the fitness level you had... but because all you need to do is compare yourself to yesterday, and walk a little further, even if it's only one step. Change the comparison to one that lifts you up, not lets you down--it's in your control. And speaking of control, I took a leaf out of my daughter's playbook and started putting alarms on my phone - time to get up and get on the elliptical, time to take my morning medications. I use the classical alarm tones, so they're not unpleasant, they're just impossible to ignore. It's starting to help shape how I use the computer as well and for how long. Might be worth it to get you in a groove for exercise.
It's SNOWing in Arkansas, even at our elevation. Love it - big fat white flakes, and it's well above freezing, so they're not sticking yet at 780 feet above sea level--bet they are further up in the Ozarks. Good day to stay home and not venture out, because there are bridges everywhere, and I genuinely hate driving over bridges in this kind of weather.
Made it to 30 minutes on the elliptical this morning, though, and wangled Corey into playing some cards with me this afternoon (Kings Corner).
Got bread made for the week, and Corey's roasting pork adobo with potatoes--I'll probably just have a beef tamale. Not found of pork, or spice.
Have a grand week, friends. Stay well, stay safe,
Love,
Lisa in AR0
