@skippygirlsmom That ankle looks painful! So swollen! I'm so sorry to hear that you won't be running for a year. You seem to have a great attitude; already looking for ways to shift your focus. I think walking miles should could double when done as post-op recovery!2

Ha ha @Tramboman I posted a picture of my foot in the spoiler, I’ll provide @Avidkeo xrays when I get them, I'll save you the pictures of all my cuts and bruises ha ha
Thanks everyone, so many names to mention, you all are the best
I agree 100% better to wait and have a full recovery than to keep fighting it. I expected a few months like 4 or 5 but not that long. My friend has something similar (non running related) and she still has problems years later.
@quilteryoyo I didn’t get into all the details with her, my head was spinning, I asked about full recovery and she said I’ll be fully recovered next year. It’s always fun to have a recovery friend
@TheMrWobbly I was thinking of the walking miles too. I told the race director for my half marathon challenge I was going to do my miles on my knee scooter ha ha
@eleanorhawkins we are on the same wavelength I have a gym membership and I thought good time to work on the rest of me and they have a pool etc.
Skip heads back to school the 17th which is crappy since it’s my right foot and I can’t drive. Maybe I can steal one of the scooters from WalMart and drive it around town LOL
I see @WandaVaughn on my newsfeed so I know she’s alive and kicking.
Oh remember I told you I won a month of training with a great bootcamp in town? I told him what happened and asked if it was okay to give the training to someone else in the drawing and he said he would do that, but my month is good whenever I can come out and join. What a nice guy.
That's some ankle...2 -
@Avidkeo the surgery is Jan 15th. They need to wait for the blister to heal first so it doesn’t get infected. It is a bit ugly isn’t it.
@hamsterwheel thanks on the tattoo on the outside is says Dad and the inside it says Mom.
I figured the picture would add to the shoe, running clothes and food porn ha ha we have broken bones porn

01/01... 10.12
04/01... 4.20
05/01... 5.41
06/01... 5.22
07/01... 4.02
Total KM 28.97
The plan called for cadence drills today which is a target of 187 - 200. That's pretty much where my natural cadence is anyway so it was basically a normal run but with more mindfulness to keep my legs turning over fast.
I need to spend some quality time with my foam roller. I've been neglecting it for months and I can really tell. I briefly, as in for a few seconds, tried rolling my ITB yesterday and it was torture!!
@polskagirl01 Thanks for the article
@skippygirlsmom Ouch ouch ouch! Sorry about the long recovery
@martaindale That's awesome your family will get out running with you again, it makes a nice change to have company on a run that's for sure
@Cricketmad88 Yay for the PB!

That makes the tattoo even better! Love it. And yes lol! The injury porn haha. Glad you have your sense of humor intact despite it all.2 -
Smoking start to 2021 for me - lots of running, 10-15km nearly every day. Yoga streak going well. It’s been stinking hot though and super humid - literally wringing perspiration out of my gear at the end of the run and it’s still before 9am.7

@skippygirlsmom that tattoo is a nice accent for your multicolored and swollen ankle! Yikes, it looks so painful and that blister is wicked. You sound in good spirits though! Good for you. I did end up signing up for that half marathon challenge you shared so I'm planning on doing my first one this weekend. I was thinking about you for that, but if you can do some walking, maybe biking, and swimming hopefully you can maintain some activity (eventually, when you are sufficiently recovered). I know a lot of people who really love aqua running in the pool for rehab if that's an option. Very nice to let you delay the training you won too.
I signed up to go to group speedwork tonight and I'm regretting it. Need to get myself moving soon. It sure sounds nicer to just sit on the couch.4 -
@hamsterwheel6 and @katharmonic thanks I've had it a long time with Dad last year unfortunately added Mom.
@katharmonic I'm glad you signed up for the challenge. I'm going to talk to the Suzanne to see if I can do my HMs another way.2 -
@Cricketmad88 Congratulations on your 5K PB!!! Awesome!
@skippygirlsmom That looks just awful! Big hugs to you! Love that you gave your boot camp away and the guy is going to let you do it later. That's sweet of both of you! I'm hoping you will be able to walk after a few weeks and hopefully do some light running. I'll have to wait until after my surgery to see what my specific orders are.
Thanks @Teresa502 . Nice run this morning. I find keeping my ears warm helps a lot too.
Wow! That's a great run @SummerSkier ! Mile 5 is usually when I start tiring out, not getting faster. You rock!
@hamsterwheel6 Glad you are listening to your body. Hope the hamstring feels better after stretching it out.

I know we are an apolitical group, I wanted to let our American members know im thinking of you all today.
Be kinda boring when there isn't this political drama eh? Though boring looks good right now.9 -
No run today. I did a session on the stationery bike followed by strength. I'm feeling really good atm, just in the groove. I'm determined to make this groove last at least a month, given I usually fall off after 2 weeks.4
-
Remember that feeling @Avidkeo, for times when you don't want to continue. You are doing great!2

@TheMrWobbly
I have signed up and am on the Hamakua coast of Big Island of Hawaii
Just saw this. I have put in my data for Jan 1 through Jan 6. (I'm trying to do RED January this month...) Oh, and I am in Durham, NC, USA.
I could not figure out how to enter fractional minutes so I did some rounding.
Cheers!

Also, on Challenge Hound, what does "miles behind pace" refer to? Pace for the entire group to finish the challenge?0

Yes, I believe that's what it means. the whole group is a little behind pace on a miles per day basis (I just looked and it says 76 miles behind). But I have no worries at all that we will achieve the goal! It's early days. Plus I bet there is a surge over the weekend.
Date :::: Miles :::: Cumulative
01/01/21 :::: 0.0 :::: 0.0
01/02/21 :::: 0.0 :::: 0.0
01/03/21 :::: 3.3 :::: 3.3
01/04/21 :::: 3.4 :::: 6.7

I did drag myself out to do speedwork with the group. This is the first week of the marathon/HM group training, which hasn't been going on separately since suspended last March. This group is an extra fee above our normal gym/run club membership so I don't normally go or pay for it over the winter. And I probably won't this time either but the opening night was free to everyone so I went. The workout was a ladder of 1-2-3-4-4-3-2-1 minute intervals with 90 sec recovery between for the first half (way up) and 60 sec recovery on the way down. Then there was an optional 5 minute interval at the end for marathon training. I wasn't going to do it, but the alternative was to just walk or jog during that time, and I ended up probably somewhere in between hard effort and jogging, and picked up the pace a bit as I went along. Might as well, I guess.
After that I did four 100 meter sprints and then we did a cooldown. It took forever and it was a long night of alternating feeling too cold and too hot. This is one reason I don't like winter speedwork!7 -
January Goal: 90 Miles
1/1: 6.26 miles
1/3: 9.02 miles
1/5: 5.03 miles
1/6: 5.05 miles
25.36/90 miles completed for January
I ran 5 miles this morning. It was chillier than I thought it would be. My weather app said it was 54°F feels like 52°, but it was windy and seemed colder. I wore shorts and a t-shirt and at the last minute I decided on gloves and sleeves. I was really glad. The first half of the run was into the wind and they definitely helped. Once I turned and headed back home it wasn't as cool so it was nice to be able to take them off. A long sleeve shirt would have been too much and I was dressed well except I should have covered my ears. They were a bit cold, but it was a pretty morning. The sky was clear and there were lots of stars. And I really enjoyed my run.
2021 Races: I need to sign up for some races! 😁5 -
I’m in. Starting out slow as this is my first time and just getting back into the workout routine. I’ll shoot for 40 miles if that’s okay.8

Welcome @smdrew6814
Good to have you in the challenge @durhammfp
I am right there with you @katharmonic and I have run to work the the prior two days. This morning was -5c (23F) when I stepped out so I stepped straight back in and picked up the car keys. I have an hour run scheduled for today so we will have to see how much it warms up by the afternoon. TBF when I think about @skippygirlsmom dragging herself back up that bank I am just being a wuss aren't I?7 -

this might sound really bad, but its the first time in months that the news hasn't been wall to wall covid, which was refreshing 🙈🙈3 -

I absolutely understand what you mean. Doesn't sound bad at all. Sounds human.0
