Did the first .75 mile or so with my family on their C25k then kept running when they turned around. It was beautiful here this morning; sunny and high 40's. I sort of expected to see more new years resolutioners out, but it was actually really quiet for a Saturday morning. It's supposed to be gross and rainy all day tomorrow, so I'm grateful for a lovely day today and a cozy inside day tomorrow!

Well i really should have backed myself. I decided to go almost for broke, and went as fast as I felt I could maintain. Ended up with a 5:30/km pace, for a run of 27:58! I havent done a 5k that fast in over 6 months. Shows that you recover your form pretty quick. Kind feeling more confident of my goal of HM in 2:15. That said, my pace dropped off. I started really well for the first 3k, and slowed. My last k was 5:50/k, though was also mostly up hill.

Awesome HM @TheMrWobbly! Even walking up that hill is a huge accomplishment.
13.1 miles for me this afternoon. 1st 8 miles felt good, but then for some reason I just felt really tired. Like I hit a wall. It just came out of no where. Probably just a fueling thing. Didn't eat anything after breakfast. Yeah, we'll go with that. Weather was good, mid 40s and light wind. Supposed to snow tomorrow, so glad to have gotten out today.

I'm sore. I'm guessing this is what it feels like to get beat up really badly. I was glad to get all of the tubes out, but think where the chest tubes were hurts worse with them out. I'm really tired too. Didn't sleep any Thursday night and they've been waking me up every hour to get my blood glucose. They're supposed to stop that tonight. I'm hoping to get to go home Tuesday.22 -

It is supposed to be snowy tomorrow so I did my long run today. It was pretty nice. I ran 9 miles. I was chilly starting out, and then I was warm, but got a little chilly again on the way home. I wore sleeves which was nice. I took them off for a bit, but then put them back on.
The run felt good, but my legs are kind of tired and achy now. I ordered some nee shoes so that should help. And I plan to stay in and rest tomorrow. I doubt we'll get much snow, but it will probably be cold and wet so it will be a good day to rest.
Great job on your 5K @Avidkeo. And great job on the HM's @katharmonic and @TheMrWobbly. @quilteryoyo I am glad the surgery went well. Take care of yourself and hope you are feeling better soon.
I also found out that the Half Marathon I usually run was scheduled for November 6th. I haven't registered yrat, bur i am planning to so I am putting it on my calendar.

My event that I’ve been preparing for (that has kept me too busy to run) was today, so I am super excited to get back to running!! My Apple Watch also arrived today, an I’m excited to start learning how to use it to better track my workouts!7

@Avidkeo - Awesome race against yourself! It has been 5 years since I was under 28min. Not sure I will ever get back there.
@faebert - my daughter is a great swimmer and cyclist but running, not so much. She thought she would be competitive but running was really where the places seemed to be set.

@katharmonic - I was about 4 when I got my first pair of skis and had lessons so yes maybe up to your knees 😂 Definitely learning w/o poles is the best approach, you really don't need them and don't want to rely on them.
Also be careful what you wish for! I hear all of our rain went north because of a polar vortex that is now heading across the country!
Yay @quilteryoyo - so glad to see you and to know you are doing well!
About that polar vortex and missing CA... We are expecting to have above normal temps for at least the next week if not longer... they are expecting it to be over 80F with dry hot winds again 🥵 @kgirlhart I will send it your way if you are willing to trade some actual winter...
I have been getting out for some power walks (almost running) and my hamstring still gets cranky. Regardless I will se how it is after a rest day tomorrow and will try a walk run on Monday. It will be 3 weeks since I have run. If it is still an issue I will be contacting my PCP again.
@Tramboman getting to run after injury puts the fun back in running but I wouldn't recommend it. I am sure you will have a better run the next time you get out!

I’ve been reading all about why they need to take glucose so often after cardiac surgery, since I didn’t know that! Short version: your body doesn’t like being cut open and pumps out a bunch of stress hormones which block the action of insulin so your glucose temporarily shoots through the roof. So they gotta control it so healing can take place. Heart surgery is pretty amazing stuff!3 -
Cold day today, got up late, ran anyway! I am just not suited for running in the cold, it makes all my muscles tense. I got a side stitch today after two miles which is the first time I have ever had a side stitch in my entire life. I think it was because I was tensing my core muscles when I breathed because of the cold. Stopped and walked, after half a mile the stitch showed no signs of going away and I was getting even colder from walking so I just sucked it up and ran some more. 4 miles running, 2 walking.
I am annoyed at my neighbor. He has a deck and rats live under it. That is just a fact. I have lived here 25 years now and for 25 years there have been rats (and in summer, snakes eating the rats) under that deck. His yard backs up onto woods so it’s not really something that can be prevented. So now we have a new guy living there and he has decided to dispose of the rats. Today the other neighbor’s outside cat shows up in my yard with a GLUE TRAP stuck to him with a LIVE RAT stuck to it. Dude put glue traps under the deck, outdoors, where every wild and domestic animal in the neighborhood likes to hang out. I’m sure there are going to be raccoons and opossums with glue traps hanging off them. Rat gets caught in trap, cat sees a fascinating live rat just sitting there, gets the whole works stuck to his body. Have you ever tried to remove a glue trap from a cat who doesn’t like you that much in the first place, complicated by a live rat freaking out and screaming and trying to bite everything?
Rat and trap are in the trash now. Cat is fine and has been returned to his home, minus some fur, and I haven’t yet seen the neighbor to give him a piece of my mind.7 -

Spain is in shock at the weather. My husband's brother was snowboarding in his street in Madrid last night :-o
We don't have snow this far south, but we've had a lot of rain. Usual flooding. Also, sadly, two people drowned on Friday trying to drive through the river. I think their car was probably the one I saw beside the river on my run yesterday. There was another car on the beach, too. Raining again today, and meant to rain tomorrow as well. People here are so unused to rain and cold, the world grinds to a halt.

All of you are doing so amazing on your runs this week! I am planning to go for a trail run later today when it warms up a bit. I went to work for awhile yesterday to get ready for tomorrow’s audit, and I walked a 5k, part of it with the pups, when I got home.5 -

Cloudy, low 30s F, and just a little wind from the northeast. Had a granola bar before I went out, and seemed to have a little more energy, especially in the middle kilometers. Heard a cardinal singing today; spring is not close, but at least the days are getting longer. Not disappointed that the Texas blizzard is going to go south of Ohio.

I've been MIA lately. Needed a little break with some *kitten* that happened around Christmas.
After yesterday's run, I am at 45 miles for January. I'm doing a race across Mexico with a friend so we need about 925 miles each in 2021. And I'm trying to prep for the Yeti Challenge in March.
I started reading The Happy Runner for my book club and love it so far. I decided to start their podcast, SWAP, as well. Informative and hilarious. I definitely recommend checking it out. They also try to keep it to about 30 minutes so it's a nice length for a short run, commute, or attention span. LOL9
