Good to have you both on the mend @skippygirlsmom and @quilteryoyo and here's hoping the after-effects are over quickly.
I feel like I am totally wussing out with just the rain @polskagirl01 though your run looks more fun!
That's what we are here for @AlphaHowls and you have to know just how much of an inspiration you and so close to the big 1,000 days! Weird world right now though all the better for people like you 😊
Darn @kirstymn my mouth is watering right now!
Good see see you getting the miles in @marisap2010 I have two dogs exactly the same, if you take them too far they just lie down and that's it!
Got a park run in today as it was raining a bit too much for a long run up the hills.6 -
I finally got caught up reading here. There is way too much to comment to everyone, but I gave lots of likes and hugs.
Thanks for all the comments on my shoes. I think they are really pretty. The lighting in the picture isn't very good. I can't wait to try them out tomorrow.
I'm so sorry that things are so bad there @rheddmobile. Our local cases are pretty high here and so many people just don't take it seriously. They have started giving vaccines though and my mom, who is 76 and has COPD, got her first one on Tuesday. I think my sisters who work at the schools will be able to get them soon. I will be at the bottom of the list, but I am more concerned about spreading it than having it, so as long as my Mom gets the vaccine I don't mind waiting. I mostly want it to protect others.
@TheMrWobbly I love the pictures you are posting of our progress on RTW. I looked at the map and it looks like it runs about 8-10 miles north of my house. I am going to drive out that way and see if there is any good/safe roads to run out there and I can definitely get some pictures. They will probably just be of cows or pumpjacks.
@quilteryoyo You are doing great! And @skippygirlsmom I hope the medication change helps.
@AlphaHowls I hope you het to feeling better soon. I hate gray skies. I sometimes think that the people around me don't really understand how much a lack of sunshine affects my mood.
@marisap2010 My dogs are elderly too, 10 and 13, and they just can't walk as much as they used too. There is a park half a mile from my house that we used to walk to and then walk on the walking trail and then walk home, but now I have to load them in the car and drive there because it is too much for them to walk there and back.9 -
Excellent work by the Run the World challenge team going past 1,000 miles. We went through southern Belgium and past the Scourmont Abbey where Trappist monks brew one of my favourite beers, Chimay

I'll stop here for a while and catch you up 🍻 Cheers!9 -

Not gonna lie, I've been making excuses. At first it was, "I don't have time, blah blah blah" after having my son. Then it became, "Well, I hate running in the winter because treadmills suck and I don't want to slip on ice."
But I've kicked myself in the butt and admitted that all they are are lame excuses. So, I joined a RunBet. Because I hate wasting money.
If I have time to sit on my phone and watch TikTok's, I have time to take a 30 minute run. Especially since my son is now almost old enough to come with me in the running stroller (although I don't want to subject him to the Wisconsin winter's cold quite yet.) I don't have a mileage goal, just to actually take it seriously again.
Also, bit of a tiny update, because I know you all like puppies! This little girl will be my new running partner in a couple of years. She comes home in 5 weeks! ♥ Her name is Millie and she is a standard Australian Shepherd. She will replace my Australian Cattle dog mix as my running partner (only as my running partner, he's not going anywhere!) He's 8 years old and starting to get arthritis, so I want to retire him soon. My mini Aussie will still be running with us, but she's small, and I feel safer having a) two dogs with me and b) one of them being of decent size.
Only thing better than shoe porn and cake porn and injury porn is puppy porn.

@thisvickyruns pictures and gory details of injuries. Bonus points for providing x-rays!
@Tramboman I must admit I'd had my suspicions for a while :-p

OMG, @kristymn that looks so good. You're speaking my language there, if you add a bloody mary I'm in brunch heaven.
@TheMrWobbly I would stop and have a beer with you! I really like Belgian ales as well.
Thanks all, happy hour last night was a big help and I'm feeling much better today.
And now I feel like I may have a problem, with all three of my points above relating to alcohol in a thread ostensibly about running.

I didn't think I was going to be able to meet up today for a run, but things changed last minute and I was able to get out for 5 miles. It was a beautiful snowy morning. Not too cold, big flakes of snow, just gorgeous. A little slush and wet but not terrible footing with trail shoes on.

Lol im the resident radiographer so these guys have learned that I LOVE looking at xrays. Though I guess that's weird when you get your xrays "can I get a pic of this so I can show to my online running group..."
Some radiographers will happily let you take pics, others not so much.
But hey, that's who I am lol.4 -
Morning all.
I'm a bit achey this morning so will do a yoga session later. It's rest day today. First mum and I are taking the girls to the bike park this morning, then going to look at some open homes, mum is looking to buy a house here. Don't expect to find THE house today but there are a few to look at. Should be interesting.
So glad I did my long run yesterday!7 -

Lovely morning here today. Mid 40’s and sunny. My plan is working my long runs back up a little and it is nice. I enjoy a longer run on Saturday morning. We have a holiday here on Monday so the family is planning on a hike. Should be fun.
The big news around here is that my in-laws (who live right behind us and have been quarantining with us) are scheduled to get their first vaccine dose today! Our area recently moved to centralized hubs and announced a clinic via twitter yesterday morning for 2400 spots. They filled in about 15 minutes! It is encouraging to me that people are so eager to get vaccinated. Now we just need about 6 million more doses!5 -

Ohhh pretty, and sore! I'm assuming dog? Some good healing showing!0 -
Actually my horse. The vet thought it was a new break but after the second x-ray she decided that it was an old fracture. Best New Year’s present ever was her telling me that.

My husband and I are running our own private Winter series as a substitute for the in-person Winter Off-Road series - our plan right now is to do each distance of the series twice, once on roads as fast as possible, then on trails, on the same course as the official Off-Road series if possible, if not, in similar terrain wherever we feel safe running. That way we can look at the results and compare both our road and trail times to both the virtual and in-person runners.
I really miss running the series but regret not doing it less and less the more I learn about it - right now the organizers’ Facebook page is full of photos of people previewing the official course two days ago - unmasked, frolicking, and hugging on each other. Even their “safety” regulations - they require in person sign in, temperature check, and filling out paperwork saying you are symptom-free - would mean more close contact with other humans than I have had since last March. So yeah, that’s a big nope from me. Also the guy who announces the races every year literally just died of Covid a week ago and there is a memorial up for him on their homepage, so it’s not like they don’t know things are bad right now.
Regardless, we are determined to make our own fun! The weather got in on the winter series action. It was nice and balmy with bright sunlight while we were getting dressed, then turned completely overcast, dropped ten degrees, and the wind picked up during the five minute drive to our spot. Much more wintery! So we were nicely underdressed, which turned out to mean we were perfectly dressed for running our hardest.
I marked out 3k on our usual Strava run and created a segment from it, which turns out to be almost exactly the entire length of the railroad access road going one way. I like making courses from Strava segments for races since it means I don’t have to worry about stopping or starting the run exactly. 3k is a fun distance for a race because you can just run like crazy and not have to worry about pacing yourself. The Winter series course in the past has been at Overton Park on what we like to call “the slip and slide” - a muddy creek bed back in the woods with steep sides, true singletrack, with just enough dips and roots to be interesting. It’s a total blast, you just keep moving forward and try not to faceplant in the mud! Unfortunately this year it’s at Shelby Farms instead, on a course which is mostly grass. Also, moles.
The course we ran is a railroad access road, two lanes with no shoulder and very little traffic. I was pleased when our time - 15:57 - turned out to be a PR for the race segment, which we have run 29 times since joining Strava. Since several of those runs were part of a 5k race or a time trial of some sort, that means we did well today!
After finishing we headed over to the little bit of woods nearby and pretended we were running a trail race. There’s only about a mile or so of trails back there, not even enough to make a 3k course properly, but it has helped us keep our sanity when no other trails were available. One of the things that’s making me sad about missing the in-person series is that we always get the best photographs from the professional photographers at the series. So my husband kindly took a couple of shots of me running.
I like this feature - being able to see our different times on the same stretch of road.

Good call @rheddmobile and what an awesome solution. Love it!2

Longest run ever!!!!
For me that is, not forever ever, that would be weird, and probably not doable in 3 hours on a Sunday morning!
1,680ft by the way - quite a bit short 😕14 -
I don't remember if I shared my x-ray when I broke my leg. They gave me a cd. I did not get a copy of the final x-ray (different doctor).
For anyone that wants to see. Yes, it's a picture of my computer screen. If I remember correctly there wasn't a way to save it and I didn't think to do a screenshot. LOL
