Round 141
Please join us! Starting on 02/11 JUST GIVE ME 10 DAYS, we will begin Round 141
Anyone can join us at anytime during the round.
Join us! If we stay mindful we can do this, you can do this.
Welcome back past members, welcome new members, let's keep each other accountable for another 10 days!
Here is what you do: Post your daily weight and add little comments along the way of how your day went. Post everyday to let us know how you're doing! Copy and paste the days in your response--tell us how much you lost and other non scale victories (NSV) you'd like to share.
FOR NEWBIES - I find it easiest to copy the dates to a document or note in my device and edit it each morning. Then copy and paste to the message board. MFP will return you to the spot on the board where you left off on your previous visit which is nice to know if you like to scan all of the posts.
Goals
- check in at least every other day

02/14 - 145.9 - Shocked at this, thought I'd be up. Fasted 12hrs yesterday. Not enough water and didn't track it. Friends house had tree put hole in side of it and we had our first branches fall at ours. More ice and up to 6 inches snow. Plus -15 degrees. Think this might be a record for us on all accounts. Still have power but not sure I should hold on to too much hope it'll stay that way after today. Everything shut down. If I disappear the next couple days, we lost power. I'll post if I can to say I'm alive and well, though

Previous Day's Comments02/11 - Down 4.2lbs to start the round. Why couldn't this happen yesterday to end the round?! Haha I measured again, down 1 more inch on my low belly (the pooch). Did NOT expect that at all after yesterday. Barely got my 90oz, 10 min shy of 18hr. Dinner was out, though small. Did indulge in tiramisu as it was new - first day they had it and not even on menu yet! I love me some espresso. Plus, as a bar, they added some coffee liqueur and that was amazing. Plus, doesn't hurt that we get the good ol' locals discount. It's a high-end place, real fancy, so prices are pretty high. Guess that's a bonus of living in a tourist-based town. Not sure what's on the menu today so I'll be brainstorming this morning a nice balanced lunch with what's on hand.
02/12 - Normal fluctuation, all good here. Got to see my Godson yesterday! Distanced, for his safety, of course. The family came up to bring our Goddaughter home and sleep in their own beds finally. Recuperate and replenish supplies. FamHub even made us gumbo for the freezing winter weather. We are cooped up. Ice covering everything, badly. Trees down everywhere. Last night half the town was without power. Somehow, we've survived that. Still continues, won't get above freezing until Wednesday with more snow coming Sunday with wind. Holding on hope our trees stay standing (and not land in our house) and that power stays on so we have heat. I'll post a picture of our ice accumulations on a tree after this. Staying in and eating what we have on hand. Glad I stocked up on some basics the other day! Had no idea it'd get this bad. Less worried about weight and healthy eating, more worried about portioning what we have in case we it stays bad enough not to leave until Wednesday. Definitely have to stock up Wednesday as I have early surgery Thursday anyway.
02/13 - Forgot and chugged water before I went into the bathroom haha oops! Still icy here with another winter storm warning. Managed to keep power/heat so far, which I'm thankful for. 65oz only and fasted 16hrs. Likely won't fast today, had a very late night with mindless calories.

02/2002/01 - I love my body She may not be perfect, and I may not always love her as I should, but she never gives up. The bloating I'm dealing with is her trying to keep us alive despite me not taking the best care of us. She does what she needs to do to make sure we stay as alive and healthy as possible. She works hard and though she may not be as strong as she once was and has some titanium upgrades, she still helps me walk, run, play, and work. And shoutout to my body for her dedication to us: ruck marching 12 miles on torn ligaments and tendons in my ankle with 30lbs, learning to walk and exceeding the necessary requirements for release after my back surgery (when there was a chance I'd lose use of my left leg and potentially both legs), suffering through a torn intestine (first time we ever fasted 3 days!), and just plain surviving what I (and life) throws at her for both of us. Body, you're a complete bada**. I absolutely do not love and appreciate you enough, but I'm so glad you love me unconditionally.02/14 - I love electricity And I hope we don't lose it today
02/02 - I love this group This group is an escape. A getaway. A place I can go when life gets a little heavy or when I have something amazing nobody else would truly understand or appreciate. I never thought I'd ever open up enough online (its a scary place) to call anyone a friend, but I consider all of you my friends. My little 10-day family on repeat. Not only are we all on a journey to health, but we are on a journey to get the most out of life and its beyond inspiring. Without this group, I know I wouldn't be making the progress I am. Reading all your successes keeps me going, knowing it IS possible. Without everyone here posting about their struggles, I wouldn't understand my own and how to overcome them. I look forward to coming here every day, not always to post about me, but to read how everyone is doing. I'm invested in your journey. I worry about you when things get tough and wait impatiently for the next day's post to see if you're okay. I'm truly excited for you when things go wonderful. Especially during COVID when it's hard to get together, I'm not missing out on this group. We come together regardless and it brings so much normalcy back when normal isn't possible elsewhere in my life. I appreciate all of you so much
02/03 - I love my family I'm talking about my blood family AND my chosen family. They're all there for me, all the time. My blood family is small but we are close. We share struggles (yes, my parents share their struggles. Completely transparent) and good times. They've led me to things I didn't particularly want but have set me up in life now (a begudging thanks). My chosen family...well, I chose them because they feel like family. We have zero ties other than our love for one another and that is something absolutely amazing to me. They are the reason I finally got to move to Texas after years of wanting and waiting. I love that I have so many people that look through my anxiety and bad days to love me regardless, blood or not. I hope they all know how much I truly love them in return
02/04 - I love my garden Just yesterday, I noticed 7 little sprouts from my habanero seeds. My starters have turned into a giant bush of baby tomatoes and baby Anaheim chilis. My little jalapenos I planted last year are somehow still hanging on outside and trying to produce fruit, despite it being much colder than the plant prefers. I love that my first year attempting to start from seeds has, thus far, been successful. I love that I'm getting amazing practice in for when we can finally own a home. I hope to build a greenhouse and expand my garden to feed us all kinds of fresh fruits and veggies. I love the practice of being in nature and working with Mother Earth to provide, it brings me back to my days working on our old family farm. Mom had a garden once I was in college and they moved - I love that I got the green thumb from her and we can bond more over our hard work. I love that my dad supports me because he wants me to be independent and this is a great way to feed myself. I love that my BF, though he's not the biggest fan of gardens, allows me to have a small one (and has actually helped by building me a raised bed! He's sweet) knowing I'm doing it to keep me happy and to supplement our food (it does help he loves spicy food and I'm growing tomatoes and all the peppers! Hot salsa and hot sauce from the garden, anyone?! Had to win him over somehow!) Last thing: I love that gardening gives me a purpose
02/05 - I love my pups - I have 2 but MY baby is with my parents. Rebel is my little babygirl. Love her to death and miss her like absolute crazy every single day. Thankfully mom and dad send pictures, let me talk to her on the phone, and spoil her for me when I pester them about it. Then there's the dog I live with, Harley. She's a pain, but she's also a total love bug. I'll have a picture in a separate post. If I need some love and snuggles, she's RIGHT THERE. I joke with BF she's my dog during the day and his at night when she snuggles with him in bed (before he stops petting her and she uses my feet as a pillow). Poor baby goes to get spayed the Monday before I get lasers shot into my eye. We will surely be comforting each other that week.
02/06 - I love my jeep My jeep, Jarvis, was my original boyfriend. He was the standard. He's my second one, but bought brand new and he will be paid off in 2-3 months!! MINE ALL MINE (: He was an early graduation gift from my parents after they sold my car and old jeep (that's still a rough patch between us). He traveled with me from New York, Indiana, Chicago, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and now Texas. He has helped me move my entire life twice -- not bad for a 2 door! First time stuffed full with a trunk on a carrier off the hitch (yep, microwave, bed, clothes, army gear, fully stocked kitchen, and all in that little bitty thing. Tetris is my favorite). Second time I had a real mattress (not air) and a couch so he towed a trailer while still being stuffed full for me to move out of state yet again. He's even moved BF's bike to Texas! If I wasn't a Jeep girl with my first one, Jarvis certainly sealed the deal
02/07 - I love football I love the game, whether it be high school, college, indoor arena, or NFL. Any opportunity I get to watch, I'm very happy. Especially any opportunity to watch live, in person! I'm dedicated to the game, so much so that I'm not even particularly unhappy about not having a true SuperBowl party - I'm just content there's a game to watch at all! To close, I'll add GO CHIEFS!!! (hey, I lived in Kansas for 4 years and Mahomes is from my new home, Texas).
02/08 - I love sleep And right now I miss it. Sleep is restorative, not just for energy, but for healing and basic body processes. It's important, vital to life. Plus, it helps me fast by allowing hours without food to pass without me noticing!
02/09 - I love cooking I never used to like cooking all that much, but lately I've been appreciating it more. I can experiment, try new things, its cheaper, and I know what's in it! I've always loved baking, but nobody around here really eats sweets, so I'm replacing that with cooking. Even trying something really new to me - chinese food tonight! I'm pretty excited to try it
02/10 - I love my mental progress 2 years ago, this sudden gain would've destroyed me. I would've felt like I was failing, despite looking better than I ever have, even in the army and "in shape". I would've gone to extremes. I would have hated my body for a number on the scale despite my measurements. Now I understand so much goes into my weight, but the goal isn't a specific number on the scale, its health. It's how I look, and even more important, how I feel. I feel healthier. I look healthier. I think I've made significant progress on any visceral (dangerous) fat I may have had from all those years of crash dieting and horrid foods offset by the army's forced physical activity. My skin is clearer. My bloat is almost nonexistent, at least these last 2 days which is huuuge. Even better is this inspires me to keep aiming for healthier because I'm not quite there yet (60-40%, aiming to be healthy 75-80% of the time). Despite what the scale says these last few days, I know I'm doing what's right and good for my body more often than not and way more often than ever before. It will work itself off in the end so long as I keep going and focus on health.
02/11 - I love my new glasses I may only have them for a week and a half until my surgery, but after three weeks of out-of-date prescription, these are fantastic. I can actually wear my glasses all day and not get a migraine from strain! Plus, for the first time ever, I actually look cute in glasses! Plus, they're only $25 and have sunglass attachments so no more blinding light and it's worth it for a week and a half (:
02/12 - I love blankies Yep, blankies. I'm a kid. I love "collecting" warm things. Works out on weeks like this when it's bitter cold. My mom quilts so I have 2 quilts from her, and a quilt from Quilts of Valor donated after my injury in the army. Snuggles and then, when I have my mom's quilts, it's a snuggle with mama from afar. Plus, the pup loves my blankies and snuggles with me extra when I have them on my lap. Bonus!
02/13 - I love books I love reading. I always have. I have times when I can't sit still long enough and others when I can't seem to put down the book. But, whenever the reading bug gets me, I always have my mom to recommend me something amazing.9 -

Day/Weight/Comment
02/10 …..207.2 ….. ENDING WEIGHT LAST ROUND
02/11 …..206.8 ….. Very pleased to see it lower on the scale after travel. Let’s hope it doesn’t show up in the days to come. I could have made better choices for sure.
02/12 …..206.0 ….. Sodium all gone. Long hair appointment today. That should limit my window of calories.
02/13 …..206.0 ….. I had a bit of a binge with my snacking last night. However, my meals were minimal and healthy so the scale was not too badly affected. I will try to have an extra well-planned day today although a work crew will be back. Happy with the scale today overall.
02/14 …..206.4 ….. A glucose drop last night for the first time in a minute. Some extra calories at the end of the day.
02/15 …..xxxxx …..
02/16 …..xxxxx …..
02/17 …..xxxxx …..
02/18 …..xxxxx …..
02/19 …..xxxxx …..
02/20 …..xxxxx …..02/01 I am grateful for my ability to retire early at age 60. I am beginning to finally feel better rested and more in control of my life. Owning 2 motels and cabins left me working 7 days a week, 24 hours a day, with never a day off. The businesses were located on my home property so there was never any rest, peace or privacy. The number of employees – 1. Just me and the occasional handyman I would hire if the job was above my skill set. What will I do for the rest of my life? As a widow, travel is a bit scary. I am not sure yet. But hopefully I will have lots of time to figure it out.
02/02 I love my new house. It is old and smoky and needs lots of updating and work but I love the possibilities. Mostly I love that it allows me to have a separate apartment in the basement for my adult disabled son. I love we can work harder on independence for him.
02/03 I love the frontline workers who allow me to shelter safely in my home while they are out on the frontlines battling this virus. Thank you to each and everyone of them. I hope you feel the love and respect.
02/04 I love my children and grandchildren. Without them, life would be meaningless. Thank you to God for placing them in my life.
02/05 I love my 3 new squirrel friends. All black squirrels, so shiny and beautiful. One is a little piggy and doesn’t want the other 2 to eat so I will have to work on that. I call him Ziffel (after Arnold the pig from Green Acres). Squirrel #2 is really skinny because Ziffel doesn’t share very often. I call him Green Bean (after the skinny Hee Haw character). # 3 only comes around about 2 times a week. He is always frustrated by Ziffel and always gets the shortest end of the stick. I call him Darren Stevens (after the hubby in Bewitched). I guess the names I have chosen is showing my age! In any case, I love all 3 of them.
02/06 I love chocolate. There is no getting around that. I am constantly trying to find ways to satisfy that craving without tipping the boat over during my journey. There it is. I honestly LOVE chocolate.
02/07 I love the memories I have with all my loved ones, especially those that have passed. Some memories are becoming fleeting for me, others rise to the surface with incidents’ that I long ago thought I had forgotten. Memories with my brothers & sisters. My cousins. My school friends. My past pets. I love that, through memories, they are with me always.
02/08 I love when I can make a difference in someone’s life. No matter how big or small.
02/09 I love every pet I’ve ever owned. I am thankful that since I have been out on my own (1980) I have cremated every doggy and kitty. They are now able to move with me. I love they are here with me in my new home.
02/10 I love sleep. It is hard for me to sleep as long as I would like. I am usually a 4 hour girl. In retirement I have started getting more 5 hour nights and am slipping back down to the 3 and 4 hour nights less often. I am trying hard to sleep longer but it just doesn’t seem to come for me. However, I do love sleep. The less I get, the more precious it is to me.
02/11 I love plants & flowers. It will be exciting what I can do with the landscape in my new home. Planting in my area of Michigan (zone 4) usually can’t begin until the end of Mary or beginning of June so I impatiently wait.
02/12 I love no alarm clock days. Today was not one of them but I know that today is the day that the Lord hath made, so I will be glad and rejoice in it.
02/13 I love a good book or movie and a hot cup of tea in the evening with no disruptions. I don’t get it very often, so when I do, it is so so appreciated and enjoyed.
02/13 Self Love: I love my strength and determination as a woman. I really feel I have made my own mark on the world in my professional life and my personal one too. My start in life was meager and difficult. I love that I overcame so much and reached such wonderful goals. I need to apply the same strength to my weight.5 -

So I decided I would go back to January 1st 2020 (even though I have been on MFP longer) and see how much weight I have lost on a daily basis.
The reason for my little experiment was to see how many pounds I have lost over and over again.
Since January 1, 2020 I have lost 103.8 pounds! Most of these came in 0.1, 0.2 or 0.3 increments so those little drops on the scale do add up over time! (They are not just fluctuations. They are weight loss!)
However, stepping on the scale today and comparing to the weight of Jan 1, 2020 I have gained 12.4 lbs.
So, after losing 103.8 pounds and making so many sacrifices to do so, I am over 12 pounds heavier for the exact period of time!
I need less self-sabotage every time I succeed and more self-love.
14 months of my life, 103.8 pounds lost through hard work, exercise, good food choices and determination.
I feel like a 100% failure today because I KNOW that I can do better. Today is Valentine's Day. There will be a dinner and gifts of chocolate, I'm sure. However, things are going to have to change in my life. I am not going to let this derail me. It needs to make more sense.

Day/Weight/Comment
02/11 - 146
02/12 - 146.5 - OK, it's time to get serious about getting back down to maintenance weight. I pulled out the food scale this morning and I'm logging everything. After 3 years of daily weighing and losing/maintaining my weight, you would think I would have it down by now, but the reality is that without using the food diary and the food scale, I give myself too much leeway in the amount and what I eat. That works fine when I weigh 142 or 143, but not when I'm trying to lose several pounds.
02/13 - 145.5 - I came home from work last night and my newly retired husband had made spinach lasagna and homemade garlic bread. I measured out enough to stay below maintenance calories, but I won't be surprised if the sodium and carbs hit tomorrow. Plenty of water today!
02/14 - 144.5 - I don't trust this number, but I'll take it!

@deepwoodslady - Oh my, you are not a failure at all! So many of us have been on that weight rollercoaster. Up until 3 years ago, I'm sure I gained and lost 100's of pounds over 15 years or so. Look at it this way, if you hadn't kept trying you'd probably be up 50+ pounds instead of 12. You've also been through a lot this past year and the fact you haven't given up is very inspiring to me. Big hugs and enjoy your Valentine's day!4
-
@deepwoodslady - don't be too hard on yourself but rather use it as positive energy to succeed, I'm sure that you can do this, you will so love yourself for succeeding. I'm routing for you to get there.4

Goals for this round:
- Walk at least 1.75 miles with the dog each night
- Export my data from the various programs I’m using and combine into one spreadsheet for analysis
- Enjoy Valentine’s Day and my son’s birthday without guilt
2/11 - DNW - Yesterday was a tough day - my son rolled a ball behind the couch and I bent down to get it at the same time as he jumped up to scream about it. The back of his head smashed into my face/nose. He’s fine, thank goodness, but I saw stars and was in a lot of pain the rest of the day. I didn’t move much; I didn’t cook (we did take out for dinner); and I definitely didn’t track any calories. I don’t know what the scale would be this morning, but I don’t think it’s representative of where I’m actually starting this round.
2/12 - 128.8 - NOT the number I wanted to see on the scale this morning. It’s ok, it’s temporary, and it will certainly be motivation to stick to my meal plan this round - no more extra snacking! Thank you to everyone who expressed sympathy - I’m doing much better. Still some pain, but nothing too bad. The little guy just has a really hard head! 😂
2/13 - 127.2 - That’s much more in line with what I expected for this round. Though i have a steak dinner and chocolate fondue planned for Valentine’s Day, so this may be short-lived. My NSV today was trying on the new jeans I just bought - 2 sizes smaller than my previous pairs! And they fit! I’ve been hesitant to buy new clothes since I’m not quite to my goal yet, and I’m debating going for another 5 lbs off after that - but I really needed these and it’s a great mental boost to wear stuff that fits. Grocery pickup today and meal prep tomorrow - white chicken chili for lunch this week, with chocolate strawberry overnight oats and zucchini feta dill egg muffins. I’m also trying protein powder for the first time, so I’m going to make energy bites with it!
2/14 - 127.4 - Happy Valentine’s Day! It’s going to be a day of indulgence and I’ll definitely go over my regular calorie allowance. We did crepes this morning and will be having a special dinner tonight. Since we can’t go out, I’m glad we can still do something special to celebrate each other. Got in a solid leg workout this morning and will do my regular walk tonight.

THERE ARE NO QUICK FIXES OR SHORTCUTS to achieving permanent change.
REMINDERS: One or two thoughts which might give heart to some of you.- Daily weight fluctuations are normal, and can be as much as 2 lbs a day for no apparent reason.
- A general downward trend is what we are looking for.
- Eating out can cause apparent weight gain because of high sodium levels, but usually goes quickly. Drinking extra water helps with this.
- The human body does not react instantly to what we do to it. Sometimes it can take several days to see results.
- Plateaus are a normal part of the process. The body is consolidating and adapting to your new way of eating/exercising.
- The closer you get to your goal weight, the more difficult it becomes to lose weight, as your body becomes more efficient at using what you feed it.
- When you exercise you build muscle, which takes up less space than fat, so use measurements as well as weight to assess your progress.
- Getting/Staying fit and healthy requires a lifestyle change for most people.

Goals
- Log all food and drink.
