@JenT304 I'm so sorry to hear about your brother in law. It is very understandable that under stressful conditions like you are facing, there will be a struggle. This is very normal and by going for the procedure, this is a very positive step to make. Hugs to you and your family.6

Lost 90% of my Challenge goal!
(21.7 lbs out of 24lbs)
If I reach my Challenge goal, I will start a bonus round to see how close I can get to losing 30 lbs. Who knows - maybe I can lose 30 lbs before the end of March?

You and your family have my deepest sympathy.
Cancer has affected my family as well, but thankfully not terminally. My mother and sister both had it, and my younger brother more recently had prostate cancer. Fortunately for him, it was diagnosed early when he had a PSA test. He had treatment and so far he's in the clear, although some permanent tissue damage has resulted in ongoing discomfort for him. It is extremely important for men to have a PSA test periodically, as it can indicate possible prostate cancer earlier than a normal prostate exam.
I had a cancerous polyp around 10 years ago. Again, fortunately, due to early detection, the cancer was only at the tip of the polyp and was caught before it could spread. I've had several colonoscopies since, with no further problems, and I'm scheduled for one next month. I'm not looking forward to the lime Jello.

This past week was a little ‘meh’ for me but rather than focusing on that, here’s the big picture. Since this challenged started, I’m down 8.4 lbs. I’ve exercised at least 30 min (usually more) everyday, I comfortably ran 10km on Saturday, I am actually drinking water, I started strength training and I’ve made big improvements in meal planning and logging. These habits are making me stronger and healthier. I feel better mentally and physically than I have in a long time.

@JenT304 I’m sorry to hear about your brother in law. I have a colonoscopy scheduled for next month, too. I was due last Feb, right when they quit doing procedures. Wasn’t sure when they started doing them in the fall, then my Gyn suggested waiting a little bit since the vaccines were coming. Hoping I haven’t waited too long.6

I met with my neighbor; she and her mom lost 60 pounds on Keto for one year. I am giving it a try! I went grocery shopping today; I remember doing Atkins 15 years ago and I loved it once I got used to it.
I need a plan and program, so this may work for me. I'll let you know!

On TikTok I am finding and enjoying lots of recipe ideas!
One more note: I finished 6 weeks of that Step Bet app contest. I think I'll win my $40 back plus about $15 more. And I lost about 5 pounds. Win Win, I guess.
p.s. I joined another 6 week challenge. It will take me right up to my Florida vacation; I'm going alone for the first time on vacation and looking forward to it! I hope to lose ten pounds by then.
p.s.s Being a teacher, I will be getting my vaccine this month and next so I'll be vaccinated before I go on vacation.8 -
Had a BLAST with the family yesterday. Finally warmed up enough to spend some time outdoors. We spent the day on the lake ice fishing and snowshoeing. Hit the pillow pretty hard last night. 😀8

I've been working on increasing the distance I can walk. All of January, I walked usually a quarter mile or a half mile. On January 31st, I walked a mile and a half! Then first week of February, I walked 0.75-1.5 miles per walk. This past week, I walked 2 miles 3 times. And today, I walked 3.1 miles (5 km)! I'm stoked about that (although I had to ice my knees and hips afterward). I'm preparing for my gym's Spring Sprint 5k run/walk on March 20th, and today I had to see if I could go the distance.
I'd prefer to be continuing with the 2 lbs/week loss I had during my first 6 months, but I will have to accept whatever loss I can get. I
We have to roll with the punches when we stumble, and get back on the horse (to mix metaphors ).
Good luck to all!frankwbrown wrote: »This morning was a big disappointment for me weight wise, but I am continuing on my journey...

Nice progress on your walking😃 Inspiring!
Isn't swimming wonderful....I feel so weightless, and pain free and soothed in the water. Can't wait for things to shift to freedom to go to fitness centers & pool.3 -
@JenT304 Sending strength to you.

Isn't swimming wonderful....I feel so weightless, and pain free and soothed in the water. Can't wait for things to shift to freedom to go to fitness centers & pool.- I can get my heart rate up a lot easier, so I get good cardio benefit.
- I get overall exercise of more body muscles.
- There's no stress/impact on my knees.
- I can swim for an hour, in aerobic metabolism, burning plenty of fat.
- best of all, I'm continually refreshed, and I don't feel sweaty or overheated!
I trying to get access to a heated outdoor Olympic pool. It would be a 40 mile drive for me, but I'd happily do that 2-3 times a week to swim for an hour in a 78 degree pool!
P.S. That 3 mile walk just about did me in -- I'm in recovery mode now. Gotta drop back to just 0.5-1.0 mile walks for a while.

Surprised that the # IS moving in the direction I aim for??!!
Looking at reports for the last 30 days' calorie/food dairy, I noticed the pattern of at least 2 days a week, my attempts at having a bit of a treat day is resulting in very significant high calorie binge days, like 3-4,000calories !! So my goal is to cut that to at least 1 day a week for starters. Then still have a treat but not throwing in the towel on those days and eating SO MUCH of that treat. Binge eating is a hard habit to break, but I'm really starting to be open to stopping the train mid journey ..and changing the track.
Great group here....thank you🙏

Thanks for all the kind words for David, my brother in law. We are all praying for strength and comfort for his wife and daughters.
I'm doing the colonoscopy prep right now, drinking Miralax mixed with gatorade. Good times.
I'll try to resist the urge to eat everthing in sight once the procedure is over. I want to get back on track with this diet.8 -
One of the things I have given up (hopefully forever) is sugar-free hard candies. I used to think since they were low in calories they’d be ok to have whenever I wanted. But I realized they made me crave food more than ever. I’m not sure if it was simply the habit of having something in my mouth or maybe the artificial sweeteners did something chemically to cause craving. Nonetheless, I dropped them cold turkey when I made the decision to track my foods and eat appropriate portion sizes. I’m so glad I did as I don’t think anything artificial is good for our bodies. And . . . I’m steadily losing weight.
What food or bad habit have you given up?8 -
Great question @kwgrandma ! I’ve given up sipping on coffee ALL day and replaced it with chugging down water or sipping on hot water. I didn’t plan on reducing my coffee habit because I LOVE coffee but, as I tried to drink more water, I just don’t crave it as much.9

Back to eating normally today. It's sleeting here as usual but I am not complaining.....my God, poor Texas. @Donimfp we are thinking about you!
Having had to eat what I called the white diet....easily digestible foods, I am so happy to be back to my seeds and nuts and fruits and veggies. That being said, having an all liquid day once every two weeks or so wasn't that bad and I really was not hungry until much later in the day. I had a lot of salt free chicken broth which sustained me surprisingly well. I may do that as a sort of reset every other week.6 -
I had a wonderful evening yesterday. I had to drive 40 miles for the privilege, but I swam in a 78 F degree Olympic size pool (set up for 16 25-yard lanes)! I swam 1600 yards (~0.9 miles) in 53:16 minutes, which isn't that fast, but works for me. I felt great afterwards - totally refreshed and relaxed. I wish I could do that every day! Once the weather warms up, I will, at my local gym's outdoor pool.

@Up_n_Running
I enjoy an egg scramble with diced onion and red pepper. Yum!
Often I save diced veggies from dinner to add to my scramble next morning .. helps speed up breakfast.7 -
@Up_n_Running
I enjoy eggs just about any way, but poached eggs is right up there! So is egg salad!4 -
@Up_n_Running My favorite way for eggs is hard boiled, then instead of mayonnaise, I mix it with tzaziki for egg salad. Much lower in calories and fat and great on crackers or over a salad.6

It’s Friday weigh-in for me. It’s been a good week at the scales. I actually weight myself every day, and today I’m up a tad from yesterday but down from a week ago.
Thought for the day . . .

Last week 153.6 lbs
Present 151.2 lbs
Goal 140 lbs

So far, I did well this week with Keto. I was surprised when I stood on the scale today after 5 days of low carb eating. It was hard on day 1-2. But I have an app that is keeping on track. I entered chili and it said "NO not Keto friendly". Thanks for the message Keto app!
12 lbs lost since we started this challenge on Dec. 1, 2020. I am aiming for end of March to lose 8-10 more pounds.7 -
One more note: Keto or any program works if you follow it. I need structure and rules. If I just wing it or give myself permission to go off the program, I just don't do well that way. It's all or nothing for me. That's why I can't drink alcohol anymore.
I bought the mini waffle maker that seems to be on everyone's TikTok or Keto page. You can put cheese in it and some toppings and cheese again on top. Close and it makes a crunchy low carb sandwich.6 -

Boiling a few eggs right now for meal prep for my lunches over the coming days. Eggs are great arnt they?!
One of the best healthy 'fast foods'.....endless ways to cook / eat them.
What is your fave way to have eggs ? I love them all ways but think a good boiled egg hot or cold is my fave. So versatile.
I boil about 6 eggs every week. I mostly eat them smashed with a little mayo and avocado and salt and pepper. I guess like egg salad. I also make my eggs over easy with some bacon fat. I eat a dozen eggs a week. Love them!6 -
For a sweet tooth, My neighbor told me about Russel Stover peppermint patties (no sugar). She warned don't eat more than two or it messes with your stomach. I take a Pattie and put ready whip on it like a cupcake with frosting. IT's satisfied my sweet tooth. Plus, I squirt some ready whip into a small bowl and eat like ice cream.
I have to watch almonds; I love them and 28 is the number per serving I should have. But they have sneaky carbs too. (I think 2-4 net grams).

Yes @Up_n_Running eggs are fantastic. I’m with @frankwbrown Love em all ways with poached at the top of my list!
