Today's run was a short and quick (for me) 1.2 miles. My pace was 8:46. I rarely run that fast. It was a gorgeous day too so I also took my dogs to the park and walked a mile which is a lot for them now that they are both pretty old. It should be nice again tomorrow too so I am hoping that my long run will be really nice.

You are doing great @pfeiferlindsey !
@Scott6255 Humm. I hope you aren't getting sick. I don't think you would feel the affects of getting old all of a sudden. At least I hope not. Fingers crossed that your next run is amazing!
You're doing good @RunsOnEspresso . These drastic changes in temperatures are hard to overcome.
That's a fast pace for me too @kgirlhart !5 -

It was sunny, but a little bit cool today at 43°F, 6 mph N wind, feels like 40°F. I decided to wear my running skirt and a short sleeved shirt. It was chilly in the shade, but I did wind up sweating. Walking home 4 hours later was a bit nippy. I should have borrowed a jacket from my mom. It was 4 hours because I stopped to visit with mom and two of her sister's who were there. I didn't think they would stay very long, but they did.
I did the walk/run today for 3/2 minutes. That felt pretty good, but I think I'll stick with that for a few more runs since I had to stop twice to stretch out my calves. And, I may or may not have back tracked a little bit so that my running minutes would be on the flatter or down hill stretches of the route. LOL I did run up one hill I usually like to walk, and did okay with it.
I had gone down to my neighbor's this morning because her dog was having puppies. They weren't planned, but were expected, as they had witnessed the consummation. When I got there, she had already had 3. I witnessed the birth of the 4th and that was the last one. Puppy pictures in the spoiler.
This is the first three. I know it looks like there are 4, but the 4th hadn't been born yet.
The fourth one right after being born. It moved, so it isn't the best picture.
The puppies all found the food right away. Can you tell which one is the oldest?
I also went to my mom's to help her get some wood in. She has a goose couple at her pond. I'll have to look for a nest and watch for babies.

@Scott6255 - I am wondering if you might need to be eating more and maybe more carbs before you head out? You might try just a bit more and see how it goes. From my experience when I have felt that way it is because I did not eat enough to begin with and the fuel during my run didn't last long enough to help much. Hope your next run is much better! Oh and BTW you are not getting old, otherwise that would mean some of us are ancient and I am definitely not!
@eric13296 - congratulations on finishing C25K! Great progress!
@pfeiferlindsey - looks like you are doing great building back that base! It is always amazing (and frustrating) to me how long it takes to build it and how fast it can disappear! But you've got this!
@RunsOnEspresso - pretty sure I would have seen the 82F and just said nope at that point! I am amazed that you went out and got another 4.55 miles in. No not 5 but still it is awesome!
@quilteryoyo - love the puppies
I did a 20 min walk with Hobbes for warm up then dropped him home. Once over at the trail I ran with a new interval app set for 2/1 min run/walk intervals, 10 sets. Did it twice thru with a break midway to stretch out my hips and hamstring. It was beautiful out, sunny and in the low 60s. I had planned to run along the river so I could see all the birds but the headwind was blowing me over so turned around and went back to the somewhat sheltered paved trail. Interestingly I could barely feel it when it was behind me. It felt like I was running in one of those wind resistance trainer and my legs are so tired now. The hamstring was mostly ok but the last couple of miles I could feel that it was swollen. I iced it for a bit and now it feels ok. I am still trying to find the right mix so it doesn't hurt all the time or get really angry with me.
Hobbes is feeling better and complaining now that he doesn't get all the food or whatever it is we are eating, and no treats. I am going to try giving him a little of his regular food mixed with his chicken and rice and see how he does with it. He should be finished with all his meds on Monday and then we will see how it he does after that. Looking forward to having my running buddy back!6 -
@shanaber You are doing great. I never seem to feel a tail wind either. I'm glad Hobbes is doing so much better!0
-
@Scott6255 I've definitely had some bad struggle runs lately too. I hope you can figure out what's going on.
At least for me, I have to say @shanaber may be on to something. I have not been great at adjusting my intake as my mileage has gone up. Also, my stress level has been really high and it is taking it's toll. I have definitely been more tired and just not enjoying my runs as much.4 -
@quilteryoyo Cute puppies!
@shanaber I have felt a tailwind like once ever. It was glorious a d felt like I was being carried down the road. Once. Every other run either feels totally still or headwind in every direction. What is that about!?!2 -
@shanaber it's good training for the Yeti challenge. I'll be out at 1 pm and 5 pm so it'll be warm.
Also, glad to hear Hobbes is on the mend!2 -
March Goal: Hike/Run the "D's" and "E's"*
3/1 off
3/2 2.50 Djibouti
3/3 2.61 (no travel-video kept buffering....)
3/4 off
3/5 3.11 Denmark
3/6 Dominica and Dominican Republic
Total 11.32
@Scott6255 Hugs
@shanaber glad Hobbes continues to mend and @quilteryoyo Puppy Mom looks Malmut-ish. What was dad?
*So, my 2021 resolution is to hike/run all 193 (or 195 depending on your source) countries of the world this year. This could be difficult, since I don’t have a passport. But YouTube to the rescue! I have been using the site to take train “trips” recently, and have found them strangely motivating. Why not use Youtube vlogs to hike/run the world (and learn something about each country)?
2 -
@Scott6255 Sorry your run didn’t go well. Maybe it was fuel like others said, or maybe just your body saying it needed some extra rest that day.
@quilteryoyo Cute puppies!
@shanaber Glad Hobbes is feeling better!
My friend and I decided to do the 5k cross country route after body pump yesterday. Maybe we missed a turn or something because we only had 2.75 miles at the end. I ended up just leaving at that point because I had errands to run. It is cold this morning but should be in the 60s this afternoon for my run.
6.75/504 -
@HonuNui The puppies mom is actually a Husky/Labrador mix and the dad is a Pit Bull. So, it's hard to say what they will look like as they age. I'm anxious to see.
@marisap2010 I hope your run this afternoon is a good one.

March total: 16.45/62 miles
It was sunny and 48°F with a 9 mph breeze when I went out to walk. That would have been near perfect, except for the wind, for a run, but it was a little chilly for a walk. 55 days into my streak.4 -
First day of autumn temps here and no run scheduled. Looking forward to watching my pace soar as the temperatures and humidity drops. Not really ready for summer to go though so am hoping this is just a coolish spell for a few days. Windy though, which made yesterday's run challenging in parts.8

Today's long run was 10 miles. It was a good run. It was almost perfect weather. It was a little windy so it seemed cool starting out. I wore shorts and a t-shirt and debated on wearing a tank top. I probably should have gone with the tank, but last week I was underdressed for my long run so all in all I was good. And it was a really pretty morning.
I decided to take a different route today partly so I would have less running into the wind but also for a change of scenery. Well, I hadn't been half a mile when I saw three dead deer and a coyote on the side if the road that had been hit by cars. And there was a black cat eating the third deer. 🤮That was definitely some scenery I could have done without. Then there were lots of loose dogs out today so I had to keep altering my route. None of the dogs were real problems, just nuisances. But I guess it kept me on my toes.
It looks like I may finally be able to run a 10K race. There is one soon 30 miles away. I haven't run it before because it was always the same day as the Half I usually run. But this year they are on different days so I am planning to sign up.

Morning all. Had a bit of a rough night last night. I'm away for the weekend working in a town 1hr away from home and where I'm staying has lots of street lights by the windows and I'm used to sleeping in a dark room. I had a call out at 1am, then took ages to go back to sleep. Then at 430am a patient was standing out in the parking lot singing at the top of her lungs. Sigh. OK went back to sleep and was woken by the same pt at 730am. Grrr.
So got up and went to put on my running gear, realised I had shoes, socks, bra and underwear but no top or bottoms! Fortunately I had bought some bottoms with me for mending (forgot the appropriate thread d'oh) and I could wear a t-shirt since was only 5k.
As I started getting dressed the heavens opened up. And it was already windy. Fun.
Headed out the door just as the rain eased, cool. It was a nice gentle 5k.blowy but nice lol.
Just as I was about to finish I got a call needed to go in to work. Sweet, great timing. Had a quick shower and popped in for 1 patient. Easy.
Am now pottering around my room. I've finished the sewing I bought, well most of it. A couple of finishing touches I'll do tomorrow when I get home. I'm glad I bought the sewing cause boredom is starting to set in. Less than 24hrs left now haha.11 -
@kgirlhart I think I would have worried about my safety after seeing so many animals that had been hit, but, you do know to get out of the way. It is pretty gross. Glad the dogs weren't aggressive. Yeah for signing up for in person races. You are going to do great!
@Avidkeo Glad you could improvise on the clothing for your run and that you timed it perfectly.2 -
@quilteryoyo - ooh puppies. so adorable. It is kind of fun to wonder what they will grow up to be like.
@Scott6255 sorry about the really bad run. Hope it was a fluke or you can figure it out.
@kgirlhart yikes on that carnage on the road. Exciting to sign up for a race, and I wish there were more 10ks out there. It's a good distance.

Such a beautiful winter day here! I woke up and after coffee and breakfast took Stella out for a snowshoe walk. While I was out there enjoying the sparkly snow and the blue sky I decided that I definitely had to take advantage and go skiing - because the forecast is warming up considerably (60 degrees!) by midweek. It was cold but I didn't want to miss the last good day of winter if it is. So I hustled up and headed to the ski slope. It was just as amazing a day as I hoped for. I did some of the intermediate blue square runs today for the first time on a real mountain (not just the mini ski hill near me) so I was pretty proud of myself. I only fell one time! I was so glad I went.
I got home and took a quick nap before getting ready to go out and run the last leg of the 4 miles every 4 hours for 48 hours (4x4x48) with my friends. A few of us showed up to support and finish up with them. It was a great run and fun to do together. The sun was still out and that kept it from being too cold out on the canal. Afterwards we got some pizza and beer , so it was a really fun time. Especially because I had not just run 48 miles including overnight when it was freezing cold and it snowed a couple of inches. I'm proud of them for having done it but equally glad that I did not, especially because I had the chance to do the other things I wanted to do this weekend like snowshoe and ski.7 -
@quilteryoyo Sunday morning there isn't much traffic on that stretch of road, but there are times I wouldn't run there.
@katharmonic I am really excited about running the 10K. There aren't a lot around here so I have never run a 10K race.3 -
Just putting it out there that I have a goal to run around my block (I think it’s about a half mile loop). I’m totally a non-runner and pretty heavy and have asthma 😂 but I can do it right!? I’ve looped in my kid and she’s going to do it with me. So...do I just start and try to do more (or same) every day?? Walk the rest? I think it’ll take me a year haha.10
-
March runs 1/10 done. Took me long enough.... HR was a bit high but I guess that's to be expected when one has potatoed for the better part of three months.
@Scott6255 Sorry to hear that. Hope the next one goes better.

Everyone starts somewhere. Good on you. My number one tip is to go so. Really slow. Take breaks as you need them, but if you stick with it, 3-4 times a week should be plenty (you can stick to walking the route the other days if you're super keen), and you'll get there sooner than you may think.7 -

I recommend couch to 5k - if you end up wanting to stop before you reach 5k that’s great, but you can also keep going if you want, and the interval method will help ease you into running.5 -
It looks like this is the first time in a month I have gotten out on my usual railroad access road! With running trails so much we have just been running other places.
Absolutely perfect easy run weather, 62 and sunny. Legs still feeling beat up from racing 10k cross country, and just dragging my rear end. But we finished 5k then went for a walk.
The big red tail that hangs out on the telephone pole next to the railroad tracks has a mate! Also, she caught a squirrel and ate it right as we were running by, so we got a really close look at her since she was on the ground.6 -
The weather was sunny and in the mid 60s yesterday afternoon, so I ran 3 miles after meal prepping for the week. It looks like we might be in the 80s by next weekend.4

Welcome! @rheddmobile and @ContraryMaryMary have great advice. You'll be running around the block before you know it.4 -
@katharmonic So glad you had such a great weekend and congrats on only falling once while skiing! That's an amazing feat in itself. Yeah for the 10K race.
@noblsheep Glad to see you getting out there. I was just wondering about you this morning.
@GeminiLady159 Welcome. I agree with what the others have said. Take it slow, do intervals of running/walking, and be proud that you do whatever it is you do today. Also, you don't HAVE to increase distance every time you go out. That's why Couch to 5K is great because it has days where you run less than you did the day before. I see so many people try to start out with a very lofty goal and quit because they don't make it. You're goal is so doable and you will get there before you know it. Hopefully, you'll want to continue. Check in here often. It's a good group.
@rheddmobile Nice running and so cool that you saw the hawk.

I too was wondering where @noblsheep was. Glad to see you back!!!
Welcome @GeminiLady159, yes, all good advice. Just keep consistent and you'll surprise yourself.
6 miles on the treadmill this morning. Weather was pretty good outside, but low 40's means I still need gloves, and didn't want to mess with them today. Felt better today. Thanks for all your hugs and concerns. Saturday (and the week prior) failure was probably work stress related, and I'm trying to put that behind me (at least compartmentalize better )

March 1 – Exercise Bike (6.33 miles) + Strength training
March 2 – 5.07 miles
March 3 – Exercise Bike (7 miles) + strength
March 4 – 5.35 miles (morning) + 3.05 miles (evening – hill repeats)
March 5 – rest
March 6 – 12.01 miles
March 7 – Hiking – 2.27 miles – 1340 elevation gain
March 8 – 5.18 miles
When I laid out my clothes last night for this morning’s run the weather app forecasted temps 10 degrees warmer than it turned out to be this morning. I don’t have time to recheck such things before I feed the kitty, grab my work clothes and jump in my car to head out to the meeting spot. As a result, I was underdressed and chilly. Even now, I’m sitting in my office with the heater blowing on me. I went hiking yesterday with some friends to Chimney Top Ridge. This hike was only 2.27 miles but it was a steep climb. You had to use ropes to get up the last part but the views were spectacular once on top. The trail is located on private property but the landowner is a hiker and gave us permission to hike on his land. It was sunny and 50F but windy especially on top.@Scott6255 – You’re body was probably trying to fight off a cold or virus or something. You will probably never know but glad this morning was better.
This is the steep part of the trail. It looks like my friend behind me is down on her knees but she's actually standing holding on to the tree for dear life!
Congrats @eric13296 on completing Couch to 5K!
@quilteryoyo – the puppy picture is adorable! I love the way momma is looking at them even when she is laboring to push out another one!
@shanaber – Glad Hobbes is doing better.
Impressive that you stuck it out for 4.55 miles in that heat and it being your second run @RunsOnEspresso.
Glad you went against all odds and got your run in @Avidkeo!
@katharmonic – you are certainly making the most of your winter and snow! I would like to do that yeti challenge some time but this weekend just wasn’t a good time for me either. One day!
