Successes: I haven't missed a single work out since last check in.. I've been increasing my weights in the gym and moving forward with the C25K program (I don't really have a deadline so I've been repeating days/weeks) and I've been fairly consistent with logging all my food.
Challenges: SNACKING!! While I'm cleaning or getting snacks for my kiddos I find it extremely difficult to stop myself from endulging. I'm also not quite reaching my water goals everyday.
I hope everyone has a wonderful week!!
Nice work!!!1 -
Happy Wednesday!
The sun is out and it’s 70 degrees. I’m outside raking and pulling weeds!

Well, too many calories, too many carbs, not enough exercise. It snowed on Saturday. WTF? This is Tucson. Snow twice in one year? Yeah, I know, I know.... the snow here is gone within a couple of hours (if that long) and we don't have to deal with what a lot of you have to deal with, but it's a big deal around here to see some of the white stuff. At any rate, Saturday was cold, breezy, and wet. It was mostly the "breezy and wet" part that kept me inside because it made it feel colder. Yesterday, on the other hand, was gorgeous, in the mid-60s. Still a little too breezy for my tastes, but c'est la vie. My daughter and I walked to the restaurant just down the street for breakfast. I was not a good girl. And then my other daughter took us out for Mexican food last night. Again, I was not a good girl. Still stressing over everything. Asked my daughter to call DES today to see if they've made any determinations and she didn't remember anything that she'd done or been told last Monday. So, we'll call tomorrow when I can be with her. I'm also looking into getting temporary legal guardianship over her until such time as her cognitive abilities return so that I can deal with everybody, since they won't talk to me right now.
A plus? I found a bike for my daughter that I will pick up next weekend, so I've promised her I am going to force her to ride with me every weekend. That will get her out of the house and moving. Which can only be a good thing, right?
Hope you all have a fantastic week!1 -

Same old, same old. Still dealing with DES and Unemployment. Talked to a lawyer today re the temp guardianship. and decided that my daughter and I will actually go in and try to someone face to face at DES on Monday. I hope this gets straightened soon. I'm back on the Rx strength antacid due to stress issues again. And I really thought I handled stress well. But I guess there is a limit for everything, huh?
Got my daughter a bike. Sadly, the person who gave it to us slightly underestimated its current rideability. So it's in the shop. Needs tires, cables, and brakes adjusted. Also the chain and gears need cleaning as they were pretty badly rusted. But... it's a decent bike and once everything is cleaned, it should work well for her. And, although it's costing me money to fix it, I got the bike for free, so it's still going to cost me less than a new bike.
Trying to get back on track with the eating. And with drinking water. Enjoying my solo bike rides. Didn't run this week as my heel hurts. Don't know if I need new shoes or new feet. I'm leaning towards new feet.
It's Spring and the weather is pretty nice. This week. Looks like we'll be near 90 next week. Yup. Summer is coming.
Have a good week y'all!1 -

Firstly, I want to note that this weight was taken on the scale at the gym since I forgot to weigh on my scale at home before I left, so I'm not sure how it compares to my scale.
I'm back! Didn't get to update last week due to a stomach bug that my kids and I caught from daycare. 1 yr old son first, then me, then 4 yr old daughter. What a miserable week it was! After disinfecting the ENTIRE house plus washing every pillow, blanket, sheet, sofa cushion cover and even the living room rug! I AM EXHAUSTED! I don't wish that on anyone!
May not update next week either since we are spending the week at our family camp on the lake next week. I hope y'all continue to kick butt and have a great couple of weeks!1 -

Down 0.3 lbs. Could be worse. Could be a lot better.
Challenges? See any of my last three or four posts. Nothing has really changed. Well, except that we finally found a DES rep that would take what we provided and counted it as validation and approved my daughter's food stamps. Thank goodness for that. Oh, and we just got word late last week that my daughter's ESA has valley fever. Oh. Yay.
Successes? One of the local running shops is doing a challenge. The first week was to run or walk one mile and choose your best time to share with them. I hadn't run in a couple of weeks and it was windy as heck on Sunday when I went out. (I do not like the wind). Nevertheless, I got in about 4 miles, two of which were run/walk, the remaining two were strictly walking. I'm not fast to begin with and my times for the past couple of years have hovered between 16-17 minute miles. My fastest of the two on Sunday was 14:03. So that was a surprise. Still enjoying my bike rides, with or without my sister. Hopefully, my daughter's bike will be ready this weekend. Supposed to be low to mid 90s here, but early mornings are still nice.
Still need to drink more water and eat less carbs. Blah. Wishing those of you who celebrate Pesach gut yom tov! And to those on the other side, Happy Easter. And to everybody, have a great week and keep up the good work!2 -

Hello friends!
My oldest turned 20 on March 30th.
He’s coming home from college tonight, so I’m taking a quick break from baking, cleaning, and decorating. Can’t wait to see him! 🥰🎈🍰
I actually have 4 days off in a row to hang out with the family and celebrate his birthday and Easter. So happy!

I hear ya! My son is coming home, just to eat, on Sunday. I can't wait. Haven't seen him since Christmas and he doesn't talk to me much. (No bad feelings and we get along... he just isn't that communicative).
Happy birthday to your son! Have fun with your family and in the immortal words of Three Dog Night... "Celebrate, celebrate... dance to the music!"1 -

Biggest success this week (and the whole time Easter candy has been out)? I have not had a single Cadbury Egg. And I used to eat them like... well, like candy.
Biggest frustration? I got down to 179 and change this past Thursday and Friday. I guess the 179 was a fluke weight... an illusion... a tease... a victim of Saturday that didn't recover, even after I ran 5k and walked an additional 2 miles yesterday. Why do I do this to myself?
I went to the apartment gym on Tuesday night. And, after getting home, promptly wrote an email to management that someone needed to come in and "service" the weight machines because the pins were not inserting properly into the weights, the weights were sticking to each other, and there was visible rust on the weights. Mgmt replied someone is supposed to be coming to do what needs to be done. I'll believe it when I see it.
Upcoming challenges? Face the nutrition LPN on Thursday when I go weigh in. Drinking more water. Eating few carbs. You know... the usual ****.

I hope things are going well for you all. This afternoon I get my 2nd Phizer Covid vaccination. After my first dose, I felt exhausted and my head felt foggy. I even slept an extra 10 hours that day. I had a mild case of Covid in July 2020, so that may be why I had a reaction after the first dose. I’ll let you know how this one goes. Super happy to get the final shot.

I got my second dose at the beginning of March (considered an "essential worker" so got in right behind the teachers). I was lucky because I had no ill side effects either time other than soreness at the injection site. And that happens with a lot of shots anyways, right? I hope you come through this unscathed, Jill!
Enjoy this video from one of my favorite Twitter accounts. The "band" is called "Vultures of Parliament" and are, in theory at least, made up of lead singer Beaker (the pretty little Golden Retriever in the pink science doggles); drummer Achlys the Danger Noodle (aka ball python); guitarist Larry the housecat; and saxophonist Jeb the llama.

If you have a Twitter account, I highly recommend you follow Bunsen and BEAKER (@bunsenbernerbmd) for adorableness, positivity, science, and Vultures of Parliament. Their Dadguy (@ZedScience) also has a Science Pawdcast (@sciencepawdcast) that often highlights women and PoC in STEM. One of my favorite accounts, right behind Thoughts of Dog (@dog_feelings) and We Rate Dogs (@dog_rates). Also A Golden named Kevin (@agoldentnamedkev), Pavlov (@PAVGOD), The Golden Ratio (@TheGoldenRatio4), Sampson the Service Dog (@sampson_dog) and Kratu (@Kraturescuedog). There may be more. And don't even get me started on the dogs on Instagram...

We are definitely birds of a feather... or should it be animals of fur? I use Instagram as my happy place to see dogs and cats... I especially love the rescue sites like @bethostern or @ christinescatsandcanines @mortythemisfit and @bubulaandbuddies are absolutely adorable. So many fun animals to watch. ❤️🐕🐈

Oh yeah... Speaking of rescues on Instagram, have you seen @wolfgang2242? He rescues senior, mostly smaller, dogs, but he does have one Irish Wolfhound. Also a pig, a turkey, and a chicken. He's got quite a pack going there. I need to look at the ones you've mentioned. Or maybe not... I'm not sure I need more accounts to follow. Hahahahah!0 -

Well, it's down, but it's up. I'm really yoyo-ing around 180.
Challenges/Roadblocks - The usual. I am a proficient and expert self-saboteur.
The fun = bike rides and I'm still working on the running challenges from The Running Shop. (One of the weekly raffle prizes is a new pair of running shoes, so I'm really hoping to win one of these days). First week was how fast can you run a mile? 14:03 was my time, I believe. The 2nd week was how fast can you do a 5k? 44:50 according to MapMyRun; avg 14:26 mile. Probably my best time since 2014 or so. Week 3 was how far can you go in 12 minutes? Not very. Again, according to MapMyRun = 0.95 miles. Apparently, if I'd made that extra 0.05 mile, I'd have done a 12:37 mile and I thought I was going to die doing it. This week's challenge? Four miles, and if you can do it with a pet, do so and make sure to take photos. So, I'll take Sienna (my daughter's ESA) out for a long walk early Sunday morning. We won't do the full four, because she's got Valley Fever and tires more quickly than she used to. We'll do one or two slow miles, and then, after I bring her home, I'll go out and run/walk the remainder. It's supposed to be cooler Sunday, so that's a plus. Saturday, there's a group fun ride that I'm going to participate in. About 15 miles out, break to nosh on Mexican food or pastries, and then 15 miles back to another restaurant for brunch. I don't know many of the people who have said they are going to try to make it. In fact, while I know a few names, I'm not sure I could tell you who they were if they walked up and Gibbs slapped me. But... the group is motivation (as are the nosh and brunch). I'll be near the back of the pack, but that's okay too.
What I did right = water. I'm not where I should be, but I am drinking more.
Have a great week y'all!1 -

That’s fantastic, Sei! I wish I could run like you do. What is Valley Fever? My dog gets Spring Fever and has to smell everything and take breaks to roll around in the grass.0 -
Valley Fever is a fungal disease. The spores are in the dirt and dogs are pretty susceptible because most of them are hoovers and are always sniffing the ground. People get it too. In fact, it's my belief that there are very few people in Southern Arizona that don't have it, haven't had it, or won't get it because there's always dirt in the air here. It's not contagious. You have to breathe it in. It primarily attacks the lungs. But if it spreads, it can attack joints and other parts of the body. Thankfully, Sienna has a mild case that appears confined to her lungs. She's still fairly active but needs to rest a bit more often. She has a cough. She still eats though and that's something. She has to take an anti-fungal med for now and that could last for 6 mos to a year. If it spreads, the meds may have to be lifetime.
As for the running, I started with c25k years ago and every time I fall off the running wagon, I start over again. Losing the weight that I've lost so far has been a tremendous help in my stamina. I'll never be fast, but I will be consistent.0 -

I'll never be fast, but I will be consistent.
I’m glad that Sienna has a mild case in the scheme of things. ❤️🐕
I’m also glad that you have running, and it’s a go to exercise for you. Mine is walking and dancing... trust me, I am not graceful, but l absolutely love it!0 -

I love to dance, and do so around my kitchen and living room regularly. Not enough to make any kind of difference though. I used to take ballroom dancing lessons and for a time that was my happy place. I'd like to go back someday.0
