Had a rough weekend with some personal stuff and ended up missing a scheduled run. Back to it this week though! I was surprised to go 4 miles today - I did four 10 minute runs with 1 minute walk breaks. The last half mile or so was very difficult, though my route also took me up a rather steep hill right at that point so I think I will be reworking that!7 -
@rheddmobile after some Googling there is a chance it was a carpenter bee. The size seemed in between the two kinds of agressive ones I'm familiar with, yellow jackets and hornets, but I never saw any flashes of yellow on it. It was repeatedly flying at my head smacking into my face, neck and back of my head. So it definitely fits. Also explains how I was never stung, that has had me a bit perplexed.6

Rant in spoiler ha haThis is why I don’t run with people, my friend has asked me to run with her, cool, We go back and forth for hours about times (I’m good at 5:00 am and 6:00 pm during the week how hard is that) she doesn’t work so hello, then I’m like weekends I’m good anytime. Then I won’t hear from for her hours….days…. so I said how about today at the Greenway (this was Fri am), she says what time .. anytime after 11:00 I’ll be done for the day, okay HOURS later like 5:00 pm she says she’s at an appointment with her son. WTF never mind thanks for screwing up my whole entire day. Ugh!!!
Did my June Half Marathon on Satuday, it was so hot then it acted like it was going to pour, the wind started up and it got “cooler”. I had to pretty walk the last few miles, but I ran more in the beginning, I think the first 7.5 miles so I’m okay with that, I did intervals the next 3 or so then more walking with bursts (haha) of running the last 3. I was about 15 minutes slower than last month, but I’m so okay with that. I just want to get the distance done.
I have to get to work, I’ll catch up on thread later.
Hey if you all could keep Skip in your prayers or happy thoughts, she okay she just applied for a job that would mean the world to her and she waiting to hear. I don't want to put what it is into the universe yet. Thanks
Hope you are all watching the Olympic Trials, so many great stories!!!

@polskagirl01 just read your post about your race, wow I never heard of such a thing

I did a slow, sluggish 5 miles this morning. So humid! Also running and biking both Saturday and Sunday had my legs tired out before I started. When I started my watch, Garmin told me I should take a rest day. Sorry Garmin, it's supposed to rain this evening and tomorrow. I must run today!
@skippygirlsmom - It's just amazing that you are out there doing your monthly half-marathon challenge. Your healing from that ankle break is just awesome! Prayers for Skip!

Today's run was rather nice. The temp this morning was about 10 degrees cooler than the last week or so, and the forecast for tomorrow morning is looking very refreshing, hope that doesn't change.
I had no issues during the run with my quad so I'm just going to go easy all this week and probably next as well just to be really sure.
My biggest debate right now is whether to return to a training cycle that has higher end cardio workouts or just base building. I don't really want to add any more time per week running (currently ~350 minutes/week) which is making me want to return to the higher end cardio stuff, but I have to be smart about all this too. There's nothing wrong with staying at my current volume and running mostly easy like base building, but Garmin is freaking out on me. It has already called me a slacker the last couple weeks because my load was not continuing up sufficiently, nor was it peaking satisfactorily. Sometimes Garmin is stupid.5 -
Wishing all good thoughts for Skip @skippygirlsmom 🤞
Yes @WhatMeRunning sometimes you just have to laugh at Garmin. Don't take the AI personally, it's just dumb software Glad the quad feels better.5 -
@skippygirlsmom I totally hear you about the last minute planning and changing plans etc. I've learned to make my plan how I need to, and then if it fits with the others, awesome. Right now I'm trying to decide whether to run tomorrow morning, or try to catch up with whatever the girls decide to do. Hmm.
Today we checked out a nearby lake, and I got to swim a little bit. It was so hot/humid today, and air-conditioning isn't really common here, that I tried to get some work done but it was pretty much a failure. Fortunately rain is coming and the temperature has already dropped so maybe I can try again.7 -
@Tramboman I hope the storms hold off for the tournament.
@Scott6255 Wow, at 4:30 am! I hope it doesn't get too much worse. Great job getting the run in!
@penguinmama87 Sorry about the rough weekend. Great running today though!
@skippygirlsmom I hate it when people do that. I will usually wait a decent time for a response, then shoot out another text that says if I don't here from them by a certain time that I'm going alone....not for running, but other things. I am, so far, a lone runner. Fingers crossed for Skips job. Great job on getting the HM distance in.
Great running @Teresa502 ! I plan to run after work today. I know it is going to be really hot an muggy outside, if not storming, so will probably opt for the treadmill.
@WhatMeRunning Garmin needs a setting where you can tell it you are injured. Sounds like you have a good plan going forward.4 -
@quilteryoyo - Heck, it would be nice if Garmin could just recognize down weeks, or even the fact that maybe you're not targeting a race.
Prayers that skip gets that job @skippygirlsmom4 -
Alright - I'm in wave 3 with an 11:15 pm start (yikes!) BUT I have a place in Saturday night's "moonlit" half marathon in a nearby town 😃
I'm not a night person, so this will be challenging, but I'm excited about it. Let's do this!10 -

Thank you all for the good wishes for Skip, she had a zoom interview today and they offered her the job on the spot. I didn’t want to put who it was with in the universe so I wouldn’t jinx it. She is going to be working through her school TV network, but it’s with ESPN+. She will be training as the technical director at all the sporting events streamed from her D1 school. She is BEYOND thrilled. It’s her dream job, she will be trained from the ground up (through she has done technical directing with the school already), they will teach her everything from cameras, to editing, to all the technical work. She will report to the Technical Producer. One of the things he was most impressed about was her collegiate running career (though short LOL he said he totally understood the feeling of being in the wrong school), he said anyone who finished a marathon shows great dedication and he was pretty amazed that she attended so many school sports in one year. She loves sports, she’s been to softball, basketball, football, baseball and soccer games, pretty much anything that was going on. They will even pay her, not much but she was looking at unpaid internships so she’ll take any money since it’s about the experience she’ll get. She would love to work at ESPN one day so it’s a big step in the right direction.12

Yay for Skip @skippysgirlsmom. And I have learned to make my own plans, especially when it comes to things that are important - other people can be so inconsiderate and/or self-centred sometimes (unreliability is a pet hate of mine).
If it's any consolation @whatmerunning, my coach tells us to ignore Garmin and turn off (as much as you can) its notifications about how you're doing as its often wrong, and that's without being injured.
I have never run in the middle of the night @polska_girl, sounds fun!
It was the longest night here last night, so officially, we're on the downhill run to summer! (But realistically, now is when the weather will start to get cold!)7 -
FANTASTIC news about Skip @skippysgirlsmom!!!!!!!!!1
-
@polskagirl01 Yeah for getting to transfer to the HM next weekend. I haven't run a night race either, but have a couple on my radar. You'll do great!
@skippygirlsmom That's exciting news about Skip! Sounds like she'll do great. I might even watch ESPN if she works there one day!
3 -
That's so fantastic for Skip @skippygirlsmom! Her passion and dedication got her this and she's going to learn so much! And great job on your June HM. Amazing progress.
@polskagirl01 glad you got into the HM this Saturday. I would not do well with an 11:15 pm race but I wish you the best!

It was hot and humid here today too and then the skies broke loose. I ended up with just a treadmill run before strength training. Today's high was 91 and tomorrow is supposed to be only a high of 61 so it's really going to be a change overnight. Currently, it's eerily still and muggy.
I'm way low on mileage for the month but I'm not going to worry about it. I am traveling again this weekend so I know a long run is not going to happen so I'll be even further behind. I'm also still having some shin splint type of pain when I run. It's been a few weeks so maybe I need to do something about it and stop just hoping it goes away.9 -
@katharmonic It was 88°F here today too and humid. Here a storm in the distance now. I'm way behind on my mileage too. Hope you figure out the shin pain.
I worked 6:30 - 3:30 today. Getting up at 4 am is so hard, but leaving work at 3:30 is great! I did a treadmill session after I got home, since it was so hot and humid out. Since I didn't get a chance to run much the last two weeks, I think only once, I decided to regress in my HM training. I'm started back at week 4 again. That will give me time to complete it before the HM, with a week to spare. Today was a scheduled Fast Finish run...basically 25 min easy pace followed by 10 minutes medium pace. I added a little on the end at an easy pace to reach 3.0 miles. Also walked one mile total for warm up and cool down.7 -
@rheddmobile holy cow!! That is so much to be dealing with for all of you. You all so resilient and strong. Your husband sounds like such a fighter .. so inspirational. I am sending healing thoughts your way.1
-
@polskagirl01 that sucks the big one. So agrivating and dissapointing. Did u have to pay for that and if you dis hopefully you were somewhat compensated0

abowersgirl wrote: »@polskagirl01 that sucks the big one. So agrivating and dissapointing. Did u have to pay for that and if you dis hopefully you were somewhat compensated
Yes, I paid for that. Pretty sure we're not getting anything back, since they gave us the t-shirts, medals etc
It's going to be hot/humid/sunny again (for me that means low 30s°C/high 80s°F) and running at night this week will be good for me, so I'm planning to run to meet the girls whenever they end up deciding to run this evening. Trying to get stuff done before it gets too warm. I know, that's not even hot to some of you!4 -
@skippygirlsmom woo hoo! I worked in video production as a production manager and video editor for about 7 years before doing radiography. I loved it. And hated it. I wish her all the best!2
-
Hey all. I feel like Im just plodding along this week. I'm looking forward to going away this weekend. But I can't say I'm looking forward to the half. I'm actually fully prepared to DNS if the weather continues to do what the forecast (50km/hr winds). Frankly I run for fun. I don't NEED to do this half. Sure I'd like to, but I also want to enjoy it, and I just won't if the weather is that bad so I'm going to go and have fun, hanging with my mum. Hopefully run, and see what happens.7
-
@Avidkeo Great attitude about the HM. I hope the weather changes, though, and you are able to run it and have fun!2

Mostly cloudy, upper 50s F, with a nice breeze from the north. So much easier to run well when it's cool.
I chose not to golf in the rain yesterday. Had I gone, I'm sure it would have poured buckets. But since I opted out, it only rained for about 15 minutes. I was bummed...
@skippygirlsmom Congrats to Skip. That first step is often the biggest.
MFP told me today I've logged in for 1,001 straight days -- just a little less than @AlphaHowls' Million Mile Run. Where does the time go????? Like Scheherazade, I've tried to tell a little story daily so as to last another day.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)

Yay for Skip @skippygirlsmom! That sounds like a perfect internship for her and her passion for it will carry her a long way.
@polsksagirl01 - So glad you got in the HM. It's a late start but totally manageable since you know in advance. Hopefully, your family can give you some quiet time before it and you can get some rest and maybe a nap that afternoon.
@alphahowls - I haven't said it lately, but you're amazing and continue to inspire me!
Woke up to much needed rain this morning. It is a scheduled rest day from running anyway so I did an upper body weight workout in the basement before heading to work. Hope everyone has a great day/evening!6 -

This morning was beautiful running weather at 59' and 74% humidity with a light breeze. No pain or discomfort with my quad today although I did notice it at one point. My gait seems fine, and my left/right ground contact time is unchanged, so I think all is going well with it.
So happy to hear about Skips job @skippygirlsmom that is so awesome
Good luck on that HM @polskagirl01 I am sure you will do great
Great attitude about the upcoming event @avidkeo hoping for the best
