Pulled out my old Fitbit Charge 2, got it powered up, using it for interim. I did talk with Fitbit, they are sending me a new one, none of the 'help' topics helped it.
As to 'other' trackers, Fitbit is really the only one that is independent. I do not need a smart phone. I am still using an old flip phone.
As to the 'wearing it out': I think this is number 5. I have worn out 2 fitbit charge hr, 2 Fitbit charge 2 and fitbit 4. Number 6 on the way, and a little life left in my fitbit charge 2 to see me through.13 -
@shanaber I hope you were able to get your bicep looked at and you are ok.
@Scott6255 good news about your back. Take it easy!
@sweetdaisy13 wow, great job on your ultra and sounds like you are recovering very well! Would love to hear more about the race and your experience if you're up to sharing.

Yesterday was a long hiking day so no run. Today was post-hiking exhaustion day but I wanted to meet my friend and catch up with her so I said we need to run EASY and SLOW. She was game. Everything is sore so it was not great but the "easy" running probably helped stretch things out a bit.
Hike report (one photo included):Santononi Range, Adirondack High Peaks #26, 27 and 28.
This hike clocked in at just under 14 hours and just over 20 miles, though my Garmin battery died about 12.5 hours in and I had to record the rest via Strava on my phone (lest anything go undocumented!). It is arguably one of the hardest hikes of the 46 high peaks, and I would say that was true for me. It felt grueling and mentally exhausting as well as physically tough. We started at 5:45 am and ended about 7:40 pm. We had to hike out about 4 miles to a junction, then did a loop of 3 peaks and back to that junction to hike back out. The first peak, Santanoni, was the highest and had the steepest climb. We got to that summit in about 4 hours. We didn't stay long because the bugs were out in force and there wasn't much of a view on the summit. Great views at lookouts along the way though.
The next peak, Couchsachraga (pronounced kook-sa-kra-ga, and meaning "dismal wildnerness") was the lowest but the most grueling part of the hike, and is actually under 4000 ft so shouldn't even be in the high peaks. It is an offshoot from the loop that you have to hike out about 2.5 miles to get to the summit. It goes down in elevation a ton and then back up again, and then the reverse as you have to hike back out the same way. It was getting quite hot out and the whole thing took was longer and way more out of us than we expected. And again this one had a treed summit with little view but some good lookouts along the way. We realized at the summit (7 hours in) that our expected 12 hour hike was going to take quite a bit longer than that. So after a brief rest and refuel, we put a little more hustle into it on the way back.
Getting back to the main loop we still had one more peak, Panther. This one was thankfully only about .5 miles from the junction and we seemed to get up there in no time. We were 9 hours 15 minutes in. This one has an open summit and amazing views, so it was the definite highlight of the day and we were happy to have it as our last peak. The photo below is me standing at that summit.
And then it was time for the long hike out. It took us about 4 hours to get back to our car from there. Those were not easy miles as we were pretty tired from leaving home at 2 am and already hiking over 9 hours. The descent was rather steep in places and was constant stepping down from boulder to boulder. Very tough on the ankles and knees. When we finally saw the gate near the parking lot we were so grateful. Of course then we still had to drive about 4 hours home. So altogether I was up about 23 hours. I got into my house just before 12:30 am and showered and crawled into bed and fell asleep. Hard apparently because we had a rainstorm and tornado warning about 12:45 am and I heard nothing. I am still super tired so early to bed for me tonight.12 -
@katharmonic, thank you and yes not a problem.
This was my first official ultra marathon race, I have previously ran two Ultra's but I did these on my own whilst our country (UK) was in lockdown. I ran 31.45 miles with a time of 8 hours 9 minutes and I came 73rd out of 136 who finished and was 5th out of 12 Females in my age group (40 years).
I really enjoyed it and it was nice to run with people, as 99% of my running is done alone on trails/mountain.
Very hilly with over 5,000 feet of elevation and the terrain was mainly hiking paths/fell running, running on rocks, through bog, water and long grass.
I chose not to take hiking poles as I have a tendency not to eat and drink enough whilst on long runs so being 'pole free' meant I (roughly) followed my plan of eating and drinking every 5 miles.
I enjoyed so much I have mapped out a trail marathon local to me, which I am hoping to run next month. Won't be as hilly, with around 2,500 feet of Elevation, but I want to get used to being on my feet for longer periods and if possible to improve my pace.10 -

Wow to all of this, and this sounds absolutely gorgeous! I’d love to run an ultra one day 🥲

For this one I think I only want hugs!
Been having some problems with my Garmin watch lately. The last firmware update messed with the accelerometer (only this model, Garmin forum is full of it) and due to this runs appear substantially slower than they are. Basically, spent a lot of time last night trying to read, installing the previous firmware, following Garmin advice to also update the maps...
And then the maps got corrupted in the process through which I burned through lots and lots of data
And then this *kitten* device re-installed the latest firmware again that I just got rid of!
So in the end I had to go on the planned time trial run over an hour late and without maps. Due to this *kitten* I'd lost the best weather running window and had to use a route where I know the fast part of the run would be against the wind. But I did the 1.61km at fastest pace possible. On my phone. Pace was rather *kitten* on the watch of course, and I was totally wasted and could not complete the relaxed running part after this, but anyway...
Spent some more time tinkering with the watch, then gave up and went to bed without showering. Argh!13 -
@yirara That sounds like a PIA (pain in the *kitten*)!
Which Garmin watch is it?
The Garmin fenix 6 Pro range. Of course Garmin is totally unresponsive. This whole development team seems to be kitten (it's not the cats' fault!), considering they had to pull the previous firmware as it drained the batteries in 1-3 days flat. And now this. Argh!4 -

The *kitten* accelerator one is 16.70. The previous firmware with the battery drain was ... I think 16:40, but they pulled it. I went back to 15.20, which seems to be the previous official release. Mind you, not everyone had the battery drain issue nor has the pace issue. People who don't live in a place with lots of bending roads, who don't do trail runs or can keep a pace perfectly well mostly seem to be fine. Which means that people which live in European cities, not perfect runners and those that don't run on wide roads without vegetation might be screwed3 -

I'm o. 16.70 I haven't noticed any issues but I run on the road in the middle of a suburb so probably why I haven't had an issue. I've noticed a few odd paces from time to time, usually at the beginning of a lap, so fingers crossed I'm OK.
Maybe I need to go on trails to test it out...2 -

Congrats on completing your 500km challenge @pfeiferlindsey and your time trial. Glad you felt good with the speed work. That's encouraging.
Put in 6.2 miles this morning. 79F and ONLY 70% humidity, dew point 71, with 0 wind. Seems like it would feel relatively cool compared to past several weeks, but still looked like I just came out of a swimming pool at the end. But back didn't hurt, and was able to get some speed back. Negative split each mile as my stride length improved. Happy with the results. Now seems the only thing that make my back hurt is sneezing....OUCH!!!

I ran outside before yoga this morning and almost made it back to the gym before it started raining. But not quite. I finished up 2 miles, then went in and paper toweled off a bit and did yoga class. Then I did a little more on the treadmill because I at least wanted to be over 3 miles for the day.7 -

@martaindale honestly I can relate. It's only been about a month and a half and I jogged a full 20 min this morning ..ask me a month ago (or even a week ago) when all this started and I wouldn't have believed I would have run my block let alone continuously three times over. It's crazy how much more capable I am.
@AlphaHowls I am honestly so excited for the day I just get up to run for the heck of it. Just go. I think it's the first time In my life I can actually see myself there in the future
