Happy to hear everything is in working order @Tramboman
Very nice long run @WhatMeRunning!
Nothing spectacular, but was hoping for a couple more miles. Right toe started getting a blister about mile 8 and it just kept hurting more and more so decided to just cut it after 13.2. It was miserably hot too, so I was fine with stopping. But hit my monthly goal, so I'm fine with that.
Well done on goal. Maybe you could lend me some distance...3 -

@Tramboman - 2nd in age group & 13th in >40. That's AMAZING! You should be very proud. I wouldn't even place in the upper 50% of any race I entered, so I'm super jealous. Congrats!
@shanaberHope - I really hope your recovery goes smoothly. And going forward, I think the difficulty of receiving one-on-one medical attention will ease as COVID rates continue to fall freeing up more medical staff.
@WhatMeRunning - You just keep punchin' out those miles. Really impressed.
@Scott6255 runs a casual HM in the heat w/ blisters. Rockstar!
@pfeiferlindseyp - Congrats on completing your training cycle healthy! That's already a win in my book . And why are you nervous? Going by your training log, finishing isn't going to be an issue. What's your goal time? Race plan? Do you plan on running neg splits?

Glad everything is in working order after your race @Tramboman .
Nice running and congrats on making your goal for the month @Scott6255 .
Probably smart @WhatMeRunning ! Great job on the 10.5 miles!
@pfeiferlindsey Good luck on your HM next week.

I got out and ran 10 miles this morning. Overall it was a good run. It was 74°F feels like 76 with 85% humidity and a dew point of 70°, so not the most pleasant weather, but it was overcast and actually sprinkling a bit when I started out, so it wasn't unbearable. I started out planning to run at least 80 minutes (for the Strava long run challenge) but kept adding to my run. At about 35 minutes I saw a rainbow so I decided to turn back when I couldn't see it any longer. It was covered by clouds pretty quickly, but then I decided to at least get to the Mexican restaurant we like to eat at. Then I wanted to go far enough to see the horses that I usually see on my Sunday run. By the time I turned towards home I knew I would be able to get close to 9 miles. Then I decided if I was going to run 9 miles I might as well round it up to a 15K. When I got home I was at 9.5 so I decided to go around a couple of blocks and make it an even 10. It is funny sometimes the games we play with ourselves to motivate us during a run. I did feel a lot better than I was earlier this week. I was really slow, but that could be as much from the heat as anything and I did feel like I was back to myself.Today is my mom's 77th birthday. It is her first birthday without my dad so my 4 sisters and I rented a cabin at the lake and we are going out there to have a girls night at the lake with her. My daughter came in from Austin for it and my niece is also coming with her almost 2 year old daughter. My mom has no idea we are all getting together. We are heading out there in a couple of hours. I'm really excited to see her face when she gets there.

Morning all
Today is day 4 of following my watch.
First was a 50 min base run, then a 36 min base run. Yesterday was supposed to be an interval run but I only managed the first interval - didn't leave enough space after breakfast and it nearly bounced. So last night I played indoor netball and that gave basically the same effect.
Today I thought would be a rest day but nope, 1hr and 1min base run
I think my watch has gone bananas!9 -

Bahaha yep. I suspect tomorrow will be a rest day, and that works with my usual schedule. I actually want a good run, and I've shifted to productive training status for the first time in ages so...2 -
@kgirlhart I'm glad you are feeling normal again and great run! Love your thought process during the run too. The horse and rainbow are so pretty. Enjoy your evening with your family. Happy Birthday to your mom. Those firsts are hard, so hugs to her too.
@Avidkeo 1hr, 1 min. That is a little crazy. How did the run go?
Today is a rest day, so just did a 1.0 mile walk in the field after church and lunch with mom.3 -

Nah not going. I need the rest day. Muscles are sore after netball yesterday! As @Tramboman said, we are supposed to be smarter than our watches!4 -

Yesterday I went kayaking at a local state park. It was so crowded on the lake with boaters, jet skis and other kayaks. Never seen it that busy. It was a good upper body workout though. Then 5 of us had rented the new hammock campground. I’ve never spent the night sleeping outside in a hammock. It was very comfortable but was pretty noisy for me compared to where I live in a rural area with no street lights and little traffic. I had a blanket for cover, but I still got cold. I retrieved a sleeping bag from my car around 2:00 am and was finally able to fall asleep. We were up at 6:00 am – it gets daylight so early! Once we got everything packed up, one of the ladies and I went for a run in the park and the surrounding neighborhood. Lots of people were out walking and running and the boaters were already heading onto the water.@shanaber – hope you get all mended up soon!
@rheddmobile – Glad you and DH aren’t seriously injured from the car accident.
@kgirlhart – What a beautiful horse and what a lovely surprise for your mom. I hop you have a great time celebrating her birthday.

Congratulations @Tramboman ! Great job meeting your time goal!
@Avidkeo it would drive me nuts not knowing ahead of time what the workout was going to be. My personality likes to plan. But something like what you're doing could be a good way to shake things up.
SUCCESS! This weekend's half marathon was great! Long version under spoiler:Everything WizzAir Katowice did wrong last week, the organizers in Rybnik this week got right and better. The course was meticulously marked & secured, they not only moved me once from the 10k to the half marathon, but then when they published a shorter time limit for the last wave at the last minute (2:30 instead of 3 hours - I figured I'd be fine, but if anything went wrong I didn't want that added stress), they made a last minute switch and had a note at packet pickup to switch me to an earlier wave starting at 10:45 pm. It was a looped 10.7k course - 1 loop for 10+K runners, and 2 loops for 3 waves of half marathon runners, starting at 45-30 minute intervals. They had separate finish and start areas and everything was laid out very well.
Shortly after I arrived, we got word that a girl from running club that we'd been following, had just finished her 120km race in Italy, up and down one mountain after another, in 23-something hours. Wow!
Some people from the running club were doing the 10k, so I got a picture with them and then saw them off before my start. The race itself went well, holding that "easy" pace from the beginning got progressively more challenging, as it should, but the spectators were more lively on the second loop, making it interesting and more fun. My favorite was probably the guy whose garden plot was next to the route, who had taken the big spout end off of a plastic watering can, and was playing it like a trumpet, LOL. There were also some real musicians along the route, and they played the whole time, which I appreciated. The moon was really pretty, and we got to go through the old town square. The route seemed mostly flat, compared to what I've gotten used to lately.
Time-wise, I wasn't really going for anything specific, but "decent" for me is under 2:20. Towards the end, I really only wanted to finish somewhere ahead of a group that didn't seem to be taking it very seriously and yet still kept passing me 😆 because of their run/walk strategy (which is a totally legit method for running, btw). I eventually got away from them, but could still hear them talking behind me and was worried they'd ditch the walk intervals and blow past me at the end. They didn't The most difficult part of the loop was in the final 2km, when you go past the finish area and up a loooong hill before turning around and coming back down to the finish. On the way up I actually started walking briefly, before realizing that it was a bad idea and I understood what @MobyCarp said that one time about a tough race when he "kept running, so that he could keep running".
I was very happy with my effort, and my time of 2:15:33 was decent for me - not my best, not my worst. This medal gets a prominent spot on the rack with my other half marathon medals. Then I had some yummy soup & bread in the refreshment area with some guys from running club who also did the half, before going home and trying to get some sleep before work today.

@teresa502 Yeah for kayaking. Sounds like fun, even if the lake was super busy. Hammock camping sounds interesting. Glad the weather was good. What do you do if it rains?

@polskagirl01 - Fantastic race report. That part about not wanting to get beat by a bunch of guys clowning around had me in stitches. Just too funny. And I REALLY like the design of that race shirt. Congrats on a successful race.
@Teresa502 - Kayaking looks like fun and a great workout. Not so sure about doing it on a busy lake filled with boaters, and my experience crazy jet skiers though.

Uneventful run at 5:00 am this morning. Very humid but it’s summer so no surprise there.
@polskagirl01 – Congratulations on your half marathon success!! I’m surprised that there were any spectators at that time of night. That finish seems brutal to have to run by the finish line AND uphill! Love the shirt and your happy smile! In the picture of the racers before the start, there seem to be a majority of male racers. Is this typical in Poland?
@quilteryoyo – There are small tarps that you can hang over your hammock in case of rain. In our case, we just prayed for good weather when we were planning this adventure and we got it. A lot of hikers sleep in hammocks though instead of tent camping so I guess they just take the good with the bad. Did you see in the news last week about a teenage girl getting attacked while sleeping in her hammock in the Smoky Mountains?

Today's run was humid. Otherwise it went just fine though!
I sure do miss camping. I can't imagine doing it in a hammock. The only hammock I ever owned was certainly not what I call comfortable (granted, sleeping in tents isn't luxurious either). I can see choosing it perhaps in warmer, humid weather, and can even see how it could be preferable in rain. Seems a bit too exposed to me though.3 -

@Avidkeo I’ll have to check that out on my watch, at a quick glance I don’t see anything like that. I think your watch is toying with you.
Dang @rheddmobile you are just not getting a break.
@runsrunsruns ha ha If you drove to Birmingham from Chicago by mistake you probably drove right passed me, I’m in the Huntsville area. You’ll have to come back and get some better memories.
Great race @Tramboman ha ha on the 79 year old, hey I get beat by older folks and 10 year olds all the time! If I’m the ONLY person my age, then I finished 1st in my age group, I did, not my fault the others knew I was running and chickened out ha ha I’m with you @shanaber my PR for 5K is 27 and change I’d love to get there again.
Great job on the 8 miler @quilteryoyo
@pabmac super running this month
@scott6255 great job getting to goal
@Teresa502 when I retire I’m going to come live by you, you have so much fun doing different things. Love the hammock camping. It’s been a while since we went kayaking I really like it, I need to look into it again.
@polskagirl01 great half. Love the @MobyCarp reference, I miss him so much. So the run/walk strategy, I agree very valid way to do a race, but I HATE the pass me, I pass you, pass me, I pass you, makes me crazy.
Ha ha @kgirlhart oh one more block, well one more…okay have to even it out so I’ll go down the street ha ha beautiful horse. Happy birthday to your mom, the first year is so hard. Sounds like a great girls night.
New shoes, I'm afraid to type the p word on my work laptop ha haWent to see Skip at Fleet Feet on Saturday because my feet hurt when I get to like mile 10, even walking. I'm sure it's a combo of out of shape and gaining 50 lbs, but still they hurt. She was sure the more cushioned Hoka was the way to go, didn't like them at all. Something in the right foot didn't like me, but it could also be the fact my ankle is still swollen at the bone, not sure. Anyway, these Karhu are from Finland (you know I'm so fancy and all) and supposedly only carried in the US by Fleet Feet, they are supposed to be better for high arches. I wore them today for 3 miles and they feel good. So I realized today something weird. The middle toe on my right foot had a broken bone from 40 years ago I never had looked at, dropped a weight on it at the gym. Anyway it causes a callus on the toe next to it. The other day it started to hurt again in shoes, it was then I realized my numb toes from the surgery are finally starting to not be numb...okay I think I like numb better, now that nagging hurt is back ha ha First world problems.

@skippygirlsmom I hope those new shoes work out for you. There's probably no better person to have scoping shoes out for you than Skip! I have tried two different pairs of Hoka's with wildly different results. Some Hoka Challengers for trails which I really liked, and some Hoka Stinson's which I just couldn't trust to keep running in. To be fair, those Stinson's were super duper extra cushy and I thought I would LOVE them (since I'm a huge Brooks Glycerin fan) but I found them to be a bit unstable, and I'm a neutral runner! It's because those Brooks Glycerin (and Ghosts even) have those soles that splay out giving you some incredible traction and control, while the Stinson's were very much the opposite and just like a thick, narrow pillow below your feet. There are so many Hoka lovers out there, and having worn them I understand why. It just goes to show that each person has to find the right shoes for themselves (not always easy). You are very fortunate to have Skip to guide you as she has seen every shoe imaginable, I would think!
@polskagirl01 - Somehow I was just reminded about when I was actually PASSED by an old lady SPEED WALKER of all things in the late part of my second full marathon! I was so irked by that! But that little old lady beat my *kitten* fair and square!8 -
@polskagirl01 – Congratulations on your half marathon success!! I’m surprised that there were any spectators at that time of night. That finish seems brutal to have to run by the finish line AND uphill! Love the shirt and your happy smile! In the picture of the racers before the start, there seem to be a majority of male racers. Is this typical in Poland?4

@WhatMeRunning I have Hoka Trail shoes I hate too ha ha, after like 2 miles my knees hurt. I wear them if we are going to just hike and not run. I'm pretty neutral too, we tried to ignore my right foot during the fitting because even the heat sensor walking thing was showing me walking a bit on the outside of that foot. So many shoe options.2

Well done in your Half Marathon race @polska_girl . Glad it was a well organised event, rather than the previous one. Great time too!0

I've been off visiting a friend in Milwaukee for a few days so haven't posted. I took Friday off from running and had a lovely day sitting by the pool with drinks and catching up. Saturday we went for a run in her suburban neighborhood. My friend runs a little but not far and not every day (I got her started running a couple of years ago on another visit). We did a loop of about 1.7 miles and then she stopped and I intended to do the same loop again. I took a wrong turn somewhere and ended up with some extra distance though. Which was fine because I skipped my long run this week (again). After our run we had spa appointments - I got a massage and a pedicure which was fabulous. Sunday she did not want to run again but she went along with me on her recumbent bike, which worked out great. Then we had brunch and hung out in downtown Milwaukee for the day. Today I went out for a run on my own (she now trusted that I could find my way back home in her windy road neighborhood) and I was pretty proud of how I picked a route that would end up almost exactly 5k at her house, but then I made a misturn and had to loop around and got 3.5 miles.
It was a fun weekend and we got lucky with the weather, which had called for 3 solid days of rain. There was a little rain here and there and it was very humid, but it was only in the 70s and for the most part we got to do everything we planned including some sunny pool time. It was a good for the soul time to catch up with a friend of many years (we figured out almost 30 years!) who I only get to see every once every year or two. I'm at the airport now to head home, where I see that it is going to be in the upper 90s the next couple of days so I have some very mixed feelings about getting home.8 -
I have two words to sum up the day: Polar blast.
How freezing is it in New Plymouth @avidkeo? I'm trying to psych myself up to head out for a run now.4 -
