@katharmonic Hope your back feels better today. Great view. I wouldn't pass that up either - especially not for free!
Nice job on the 6K @yirara ! Hahaha about getting up to get the benchmark run of your new program done.
Love your new picture @AlphaHowls !
Good luck on your HM @polskagirl01 ! I'm sure you are going to do great!
Nice description of your adventures in the Grand Canyon @Teresa502 ! Beautiful pictures too. I hope both Bob and the other hiker are okay. Some friend he had, huh?
Keep it up @abowersgirl ! You are doing great!
@rheddmobile Glad that you and DH were both able to get out for a run and that he did okay. Prayers and good thoughts that he feels better quickly and that things improve with your mom's situation.
I played doubles tennis this morning, worked in the baby room at daycare until 5:30, stopped at mom's and my neighbor's on the way home, got here at 6:40 pm and went for my fast mile walk on the driveway. With all that I'm doing this weekend, I'm not even going to stress about running. If I have time, I will. If not, I plan to try really hard to get back on track Monday.6 -
Nice job on finishing your challenge @pfeiferlindsey.
@polskagirl01 I love model trains and the towns they build for them. I once went to a show/museum/store in Denver and fell in love with them. If I had the time, I'd love to do model trains. Hope you all enjoyed the show and the visit to the museum.
@Scott6255 I hope your back is feeling better! The smallest things can make it seize up.

Yeah for maintaining your streak and that your back is feeling better @Scott6255 !
Sorry about your FitBit @AlphaHowls !
Congratulations on your Ultra @sweetdaisy13 ! That's awesome!
@skippygirlsmom Sounds like you had an awesome time volunteering at the Track championships. I can't even imagine running at the paces that some of those young men and women ran.
3 -
@katharmonic That view is beautiful. I hope you and Stella enjoy yourselves.
@polskagirl01 Good luck on your race!
@Teresa502 I can't believe that anyone would just leave someone hiking like that. It sounds like y'all had a great guide and the hike sounds both grueling and awesome at the same time!
@rheddmobile I'm glad your husband was able to get out for a run. And glad your mom is doing better. Hopefully you'll get some relief from all the stress soon.
@quilteryoyo I'm glad you had a good visit with your family. Sounds like you are as busy as ever.

@Avidkeo there I was all excited for you, will have to wait a week. Gale force winds can go away though!
@Teresa502 I am also amazed at the so-called friends. I wonder, did they not realize it may have been a life-threatening situation for the guy? And I feel for the older gentleman as well But I'm glad it all worked out and you had a good adventure.3 -

@Teresa502 Your GC trip sounded both amazing and horrific at the same time! Glad you went, and you are back safe.
@rheddmobile that is great that you and your husband were able to run together again! PVCs sound scary, but glad they settle down after a while.
Good luck on your HM @polskagirl01! Remember to have FUN too!! 😁2 -
@polskagirl01 good luck! Hope you have a great race.
@rheddmobile - glad that your husband was able to run, but sounds scary about his heart issues. I hope the stress calms for all of you soon.
@Teresa502 - wow. Amazing experience. I was so interested to read your daily account. That sounds like such a tough hike, not even factoring in having a member of the group helicoptered out and the abandoned hiker. You are a beast of a hiker. Sounds like a truly incredible adventure. Hope you are recovering well and staying nice and cool!
My back is feeling better, thank you all. It's gorgeous out at the lake this morning. I may attempt to get the kayak down there in a little while. But the main plan for the day is lazing around with a view.6 -
@katharmonic Wish I could join you. I think a good lazing around weekend is what I need. Enjoy!1
-
Congrats @Teresa502 and what a recap!
All things considered, it sounds like a hugely successful hike and you deserve every last bit of pride in that one (As crazy or heartless as that may sound). There are deaths out there, more usually in tougher weather, which you most certainly were in.
Granted I wasn't there so could be off base, apologies if so.
Poor Bob seemed way out of his league. Your guide seemed to recognize your groups abilities and was able to give Bob a chance at least without having the whole thing called off due to him. And you all delivered for him and that poor soul who was abandoned! I can't imagine what that guy has to say to his "friends" now!
The fact that you hit all your stops at a faster pace after all that is just amazing. I hope your memories are as good as I imagined from how I read them. You have done something few will and only a few can, and did it incredibly well in the toughest of conditions.6 -

Cloudy, upper 60s F, humid, and no wind today. Wasn't much fun in the run today, so cut it off at 6k. Don't want to take a chance on doing something dumb before next week's actual race.
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!
Return to a good running weight of 175 lbs (second attempt)

7/17 Run of the Ox 5k, Mantua, OH

8.2 mile trail run, with 957 feet of Elevation. Legs not quite 100% after last Sunday's ultra marathon, but getting there. Two toenails are slightly discoloured but doesn't look like I'm going to lose them.
June cumulative:
89.4/120 miles
10,938/12,000 feet of Elevation7 -
@katharmonic Sounds like a very grueling hike last weekend! When I read that the first peak was the highest, I thought that was great, because the rest of the hike would be easier. Guess I was totally wrong on that assumption. Love the picture. I can't imagine hiking that long, let alone on difficult trails.
@Scott6255 Great running and glad your back is feeling better. It's amazing how a sneeze can make things hurt so bad. I know I often have to hold onto something when I sneeze so that I don't jerk my back too much.
@penguinmama87 You are doing great and so glad you are pumped!
Great progress and attitude @WhatMeRunning !
@rheddmobile Yeah. I once asked the tech about my stress test and was told, "I can't tell you what the results are, but if I saw something serious, I would not let you leave the building." Glad you had a good birthday and PR'd that hill. Those longer, slow elevation increases are a killer for me. You did great. Still hoping things continue to improve for you, your DH, and your mom.
4 -
@yirara Sorry the Garmin/running gods seem to be against you lately. Hope you get that straightened out.
@Scott6255 Glad the PF pain went away. Hope it stays that way.
Great news about your DH @rheddmobile !
Looks like I'm finally caught up on all the posts. You guys are doing great, as always. Such an inspiration.4 -
So good to hear from you @quilteryoyo! We've been missing you!!
14 tough miles this morning. Even tho it was cooler and less humid than the last several weeks, it felt oppressively hot and soupy running. Had to take 3 walking breaks. Calves felt really tight, but I'm sure that was due to over doing it with calf raises the other day. Just glad to get in a long run this week.
Hope all you dads have a great Father's Day tomorrow!!
7 -
Thanks @Scott6255 . Great job on the long run. I think the weather affects us more some days than it does others.1
-
Friends leaving people on r2r hikes is not unusual. I've heard so many stories. It's still a *kitten* thing to do though.3
-
Thanks for all the kind comments on my GC hike. We saw a ranger on our last day who knew our guide and pulled her aside to let her know that Bob was ok according to the paramedics who checked him out. I think he was just undertrained and bit off more than he could chew. @RunsOnEspresso - that's exactly what our guide said. It happens quite frequently. Still blows my mind!
@quilteryoyo - are you working at the ballpark this summer? I heard our friend Bob Townsend mention that he was the other day and I immediately thought of you!
This morning I ran a local 5k. My finish time was really, really slow. I ran with a friend coming back from an injury so that I could encourage her. She was quite proud that she didn't have to walk any of it. After the run, a friend and I went bike riding for 24 miles. Beautiful summer day here. I loved riding by all the gardens and fields and just smelling summer.
Happy Father's Day to all the dads here and big hugs to those of you who no longer have your dad around. I know it can be a tough day.9 -
I'm just going to paste this here from my Strava post, and move on with my life...
Wizz Air Katowice Half Marathon Disaster recap:Something went wrong with the course, and as a result, the police shut the whole thing down, stopping wave 1 runners at km 3. Only the very front of the race got through. They informed everyone else it was canceled. I got there in time to collect the medal/water/sandwich, wander around not sure what to do, and then go back to my car, and apparently I didn't stop my watch.
Then they posted on Facebook that the police would recheck the course around 10pm and it was possible anyone who wanted to could have until 1am to run the race. So I moved the car closer, and then sat around at the start with a bunch of other people until I figured that the organizers and police were probably off watching the soccer match somewhere and weren't going to tell us anything, and at almost 11 pm, I wouldn't finish by 1 and would likely be running alone anyway... and I no longer even wanted to. So I drove home (almost an hour drive). I'm beyond frustrated, disappointed and mad.
I've already emailed the organizers of next week's 10k I'm signed up for (in another town), to see if I can switch to their half marathon distance instead.11 -
@Teresa502 It has been a great day today. Glad you were able to get out and enjoy it. I am not working at the ballpark this year. I decided I had too much going on and something had to give. That was it. I may attend a game or two as a spectator.
@polskagirl01 Sorry to hear about your HM. Did you ever find out what went wrong? I hope you are able to switch to the HM next week. Fingers crossed.1
