You all are so sweet thank you for the kind words on Skip’s new job, she said thank you so much. @Avidkeo that is so funny, my friend works for ESPN and she did College Game Day for years and she said the same thing, best and worst job ever. I don’t think that weather sounds like fun.
@katharmonic thanks for the kinds words on my half.
Don’t know if any of you know about the Heart of the South Road Race but it’s 332 miles from Gaffney, SC to Castle Rock, GA and you have 10 days. A girl a know is doing it and if you follow ultra type running (and maybe also live in this area) some of the other names are familiar. But you get on a bus in Castle Rock and it drops you off somewhere around 300 – 350 miles with a map you need to find your way, unsupported with only what you can carry and find on the way. First guy came in this morning after 5 days. It’s road, trails, etc. If you look up vacationwithoutacar.com you can follow it. Check in is at 7 am and 7 pm CT and there is a tracking sheet you can follow and the second page of the sheet is comments left by the runners. Also there’s a Facebook page which is a hoot with runners and/or their friends and family commenting. Yesterday I think it was the Grim Reaper joined the race, he’s on the sheet and if you are behind him you will not make it to end at the pace you are going. They have had tropical storms, bears, heat, etc along the way, but also great people. One lady posted that she rented a hotel and which it was and what town and she told the front desk clerk to let anyone coming in mentioning the race to let them use it, shower, sleeping whatever. The second place guy just came in. It’s pretty amazing what you can do.
Great logging @Tramboman
@Shanaber how are you feeling?

I should have known that was one of Laz's races @skippygirlsmom! I (casually) know two of the runners - Michelle and Rick Gray!1
-
@skippygirlsmom I remember first hearing about and reading about that event a few years ago. Mind boggling! Also I recall a lot of laughs about some of the stories. I remember reading quite a few people's blog posts who ran the event, or were tracking people. It sounds crazy, and is yet so inspiring! People just napping on the ground as part of their adaptive run strategy because eventually you're not going to reach one of your planned stops. Just amazing.3

Second week after I restarted my running programme after it crashed on me. Well, what happened... Today a 5k with stride repeats. This went so well that I did more than the prescribed 20s fast/45s slower intervals. And totally effortlessly ended up with a 5k that was 0:14min/km faster than the previous one where I finished totally wasted. Sometimes things just work out.9

Today was absolutely perfect weather and also a rest/lifting day. Oh well!
Yesterday was our run day and it was extremely unpleasant - only 83 but with dew point of 78 which is officially “just skip it” weather according to the chart showing the effect of dew point on run speed. But my husband and I got out on trails and chugged along for 5k more or less plus enough walking to make 5 miles total. His heart is still doing a thing but he’s coping better. It was awful running in the humidity though, and park services has dumped a slough of sand on the gravel trails, which makes for slow going. Also I ate so many spiders that had built their webs across the trail that I made up a song about it. Still feel like every running day is a privilege.
Tomorrow is another run day and the weather is supposed to be nice. Fingers crossed!
My mom is working on rehoming the mares, which are elderly retired pasture ornaments, which will free her up to move into town to a place with assisted living. In the meantime her housekeeper has been spending a couple of nights a week with her so we get a break once in a while. Remarkable how much better a run feels on enough sleep.12 -
Well there has been a covid scare in Wellington. Which means the government is considering putting Wellington into lockdown. Which will mean the HM won't go ahead.
I feel for the organisers, this happened last year.

Well there has been a covid scare in Wellington. Which means the government is considering putting Wellington into lockdown. Which will mean the HM won't go ahead.
I feel for the organisers, this happened last year.
But there is a part of me that's hopeful...
On reflection I don't think my intention is clear. And this post sounds awful!
We have no community transmission of covid. So I hope our government goes hard early again because I don't want to go back into a full lockdown because the delta variant is so contagious.
I don't want anyone getting covid.7 -
Congrats to Skip @skippygirlsmom !
No run for me today. Sunday afternoon after my run I was hit with the stomach bug. Luckily yesterday was a scheduled rest day. I called in to work to let them know I wasn't coming in and then I didn't get up until after 1:30 pm. I moved to the couch and eventually ate a few saltines and then some oatmeal before going back to bed. Today I felt better, but tired and had no energy. And it was almost perfect running weather. 63°F, no wind not too humid and dew point 58°. You just don't get that very often in Texas in June. So I hated not to run, but I really didn't feel up to it. I did go for short 1 mile walk, so I was able to enjoy the day a little. I was disappointed to miss my run, but I know I needed more rest and more fuel than I had. I am planning to run tomorrow, but I will take it easy and see how it goes. If I need to walk one more day then I will.

@WhatMeRunning Glad your quad is feeling better.
That race sounds interesting @skippygirlsmom . Those folks that are already finished are amazing.
@yirara Nice going on you 5K!
@rheddmobile Glad things seem to be looking up a little bit and that you are getting to run some.
@kgirlhart Sorry you were sick. Glad you are feeling some better. If it's the stomach bug I had, I was really tired for a week, so don't push it too hard. Glad you got to enjoy a walk in the nice weather.
I worked at daycare today...the 8:30 - 5:30 shift in the 2-3 year old classroom. They were pretty good, but are so needy and so clingy and so in your face. I was tired when I went in. I was exhausted when I left. There were only 7 children in that class today, but it felt like a LOT more. LOL I had one of those "senior moments." I was sitting in a chair with one of the girls on my lap this afternoon. I was looking around the room and couldn't find Sally - not her real name. I said to the other teacher, "Did Sally leave?" She looked at me and said, "She's sitting in your lap." LOL How in the world? She had her back to me and I was looking beside of her head, so wasn't looking at her face, but still...... We had a good laugh at that one.
The weather was great when I got home - 75°F, slight breeze, partly cloudy. I briefly thought about running, but knew I didn't have it in me. So, I did a mile walk on the driveway. I hope to get to run tomorrow.5 -

It was so cool out today, I was sorry I had only brought shorts with me to run. Of course it ended up being fine once I got started but how quickly we went from 90 to 60 made it feel very chilly.
I ran with a friend and it was her 69th birthday today. She was a coach in the walk to run group when I started almost 6 years ago, and she definitely took me on and got me involved in a great group of women who run together almost every week. She's working on a marathon in all 50 states and is hoping to get to 42 this year with 3 more races. Last year of course was a bust so she's feeling like it's hard to get back to that kind of training. I think the year before she did 7 marathons or something like that. She's an amazing woman and the local cable news did a little story on her and ran it today, on her birthday!10 -
Half has been cancelled. I'm not disappointed. I am sad for others though and the organisers. I am sad to not have a weekend away.
Damn you covid.9 -
Dang it @Avidkeo, sorry for your cancelled HM. Really thought we (or at least some parts of the world) were putting this covid crap behind us. That really stinks.
@katharmonic great that you were able to run with your friend on her 69th birthday. That is so great that she is still so active!
7 miles this morning. At least is was below 80F and dew point in low 70s. Thought it was going to be an easy run, but it turned into a progression run. The last 4 miles are what I am aiming for to be my easy run pace by the end of summer (around 8:30/mi).

This morning I ran a 1-mile warm-up followed by 3 miles of hill repeats and ending with 1-mile cool down back to the car. Very pleasant morning at 55F and the moon was beautiful.
@kgirlhart – Hope you are feeling back to normal today.
That’s funny about “Sally” @quilteryoyo. If I had to keep up with a room full of 2-3 year olds I probably wouldn’t know where I was half the time!
@katharmonic – Your 69-year old friend is amazing! I can’t imagine doing 7 marathons in one year and I’m not nearly 69!
@Scott6255 – Amazing pace as always!
2 -
@katharmonic Glad you had a good run with your friend for her 69th birthday. I hope she can find her mojo and get those marathons completed.
@Avidkeo Sorry to hear the HM was cancelled. I'm sure the organizers are so disappointed after putting in all the work to get there.
@Scott6255 Nice run. It's hard to believe that people, like you, are aiming for an easy pace that would be a sprint for me. I'm in awe.
@Teresa502 Three miles of hill repeats? That is amazing.

Sunny, upper 50s F, with little wind. My back stiffened up yesterday after chiro adjustment, running, and stretching -- not painful, but tight. Felt the aftereffects this morning.
@Avidkeo Sorry about your half.
@katharmonic Hurray for your friend. I get tired just thinking about a 10k, let alone a half or a marathon.
@quilteryoyo Welcome to the mature generation!!!
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!

@Teresa501 definitely a Laz right ha ha you are so right, that’s fun you know two of the runners. Linda (the girl I know) has run in this area for a while. I was actually surprised to see her try it, didn’t think it was up her alley to be honest. Glad she’s doing good though at 225 this morning.
@WhatMeRunning the first female to finish, Kimberly Durst, her sister or sister in law has been posting on facebook, what a hoot. I guess Kim gets scared at night to calls her.
@rheddmobile glad you and hubby were able to get out, if we trail run early I send Skip out in front of me, she’s a great web catcher. I also HATE sand on trails, it’s like stepping in quick sand. Glad your mom’s housekeeper has been able to give you a rest, it’s important to take care of yourself.
Ugh @Avidkeo I understood what you meant in your post. – sorry about your half
@kgirlhart saw on Strava you were feeling better, glad to hear it.
@quilteryoyo I love that you work at the daycare, that is a crazy age you have though. Poor Sally ha ha
@katharmonic so cool that the cable channel did a news story on your friend, Happy Birthday to her
Nice progressive run @Scott6255

So sorry @Avidkeo I get it, there are more important things than running [gasp!], but these races do matter to those of us who run them, and it's totally OK to be sad about it even while agreeing with the decision.
I ran yesterday in the forest with the girls but might've overcooked myself running the 7k to get there from my house in the sun & humid heat. Took a rest day today.8 -
Was a bit nervous today. Running programme asked for a 50 + 30 minutes optional slow run. I managed 60 minutes, which came down to 5 miles/8km. At the fastest 5 mile pace ever - not surprising though as it's not a distance I've ever run a lot. Well, the goal pace for my 10k plan is 7:30. This run was 7:28. Go figure. Looks like I only need to find strength for 2 more km, and then I'm there.9

Thanks guys. I'm doing another HM in e weeks that I will probably just do virtually.
I'll now build a base and work towards a sub 2hr Half for my run in October with @ContraryMaryMary

5k from WC Johnson park to Cox park and back, then a walk along the boardwalk. Slow but my husband didn’t have to stop due to his heart! And the weather was perfect. Strava died at the beginning of our walk but I believe we went about 6 miles total. Now to slowly build back to our usual routine - he is gunshy about doing too much right now.
@Avidkeo sorry about the half but even more sorry to hear about the COVID scare.6 -

I got out and ran 5 miles this morning. It was hot and I was really slow. I stopped and walked a few times when I pulled my water bottle out, but did run most of the way. I felt ok, but I have been pretty tired today. I 'very been really busy at work and for accounting that means tied to the desk. I actually felt better at lunch when I got up and moved around so I don't think it was necessarily the running that made me so tired. I also haven't eaten enough the last couple of days, but today I have done better about eating. I'll definitely take it easy tomorrow and may even take a rest day if I think I need too.

@skippygirlsmom I am a sub at the daycare, so I have all the ages on various days...from 6 months to 5 years. Tomorrow, I'm in the 4-5 year old class. They are usually a hoot. Hopefully I won't "lose" any of them.
Nice progress @yirara !
@rheddmobile Glad to see you are able to run with your hubby. It's totally understandable that he is gun shy. Once he gets "enough" miles in and sees that he is ok, he'll get more comfortable with it. I know that's how I felt when I first found out I had the aneurysm.
@kgirlhart Glad you are feeling some better. The stomach flu is nothing to sneeze at. Not being able to eat properly really affects your stamina. Take it easy and hope you get back to normal soon.
The AC repairman showed up about 11:15. As I figured, I had fixed the problem yesterday, but decided I'd go ahead and keep the appointment so they could check it out, just to be sure everything was good before the heat really sets in for the summer. The issue was the sump pump, I guess that is what it is called, was stopped up and the water had spilled over from the catch pan into the bottom of the unit and into the floor. It took him all of about 5 minutes to check the Freon and let me know that all is well.
I went out for my run when he left - at 11:45. It was only 70°F so thought it would be comfortable, but it was really hot in the sun and I felt it. Plan called for a 25 minute easy run. I did 2.5 miles in 30:52 minutes. Pace wasn't too bad for an easy run. Also walked one mile total for warm up and cool down.
Ended at mom's and talked to her for a few minutes, strolled home, ate a spoon of peanut butter, changed clothes and went out to mow my lawn. Finished a little over two hours later. Busy, active day.7 -
Hugs and likes all around!

HM/marathon group tonight was 1 minute intervals with 1 minute recovery between x 16. Then 4 sprints. Warmup and cooldown of 10 minutes each. It was fortunately another nice, cooler night, although plenty warm while running.6 -
Typically, we hit the shortest day day and the weather has turned... but for the better, in my opinion - the temperature has dropped significantly - it was only four degrees with frost when I walked the girls to school this morning - but gorgeously clear, still and sunny. Fabulous running weather, although I did have to get out a merino top and a windbreaker for my run at 11am. Odd that two days ago it was shorts and a t-shirt weather!9
