Keep up the good work!! 👏🏻💪🏻
NEVER too late!! welcome! this is where you need to be for a strong group of folks facing and overcoming the same hurdles you face.7 -

Friday, Saturday, Sunday were kind of blow-outs. Happy hour, travel, family gatherings, moment of weakness in the supermarket resulting in being UP 1# on the scale. Need to work on better strategies.
Although I did complete my food diary religiously. And was above weekly goal by only about 3500 calories. Given that I'm supposedly set at a level to lose 2 pounds per week, I still should have lost ~1 pound (instead of the normal ~2). But it's a small window of time, so I'm going to see how things work out over the next week or so now that I'm hopefully back on plan.
Goal for the week: don't let the small voice in my head telling me to give up because I've already blown it and it's futile anyway defeat the part of me that wants to do this. Onward and downward!

This morning, I'm at 241.4, so 1.1# down from a week + 1 day ago, now that a couple days have passed from my weekend "splurges." Just as the formula would predict!
@Spotteddingo - thanks for noticing! MFP has been a great help in keeping this going. I know it will slow as things progress, but I'm pretty happy so far. I sent you a FR as we're pretty similar in age/weight/goals.
@justcandi12 - welcome! I've found this a good way to stay accountable - hope it works for you, too.7 -
Thank you @azalea4175 @OnceAndFutureAthlete! I’m glad to have found this group I will weigh in and do measurements later! 🙌🏻4

okay, this time I forgot. I also wasn't excited about my weigh in. But I keep telling myself the scale is a TOOL, that number is not what I care about! Probably not going to hit that stretch goal of 245, but that's okay. Slow and steady wins the race! And then stays on, plodding through maintenance and doing JUST FINE.9 -
@wanderinglight Just get out there and try all that interests you. See if there's a class or activity group that you could discuss or help you try close to you. If you fall, you fall.. as long as you can swim back to where you started it should be just fine. One activity I tried a few years ago that accommodated all shapes & abilities was dragonboat racing. It's on the water, challenging, and gets you involved with a group of people. My area had quite a few teams and one really accepted newbies. Just tossing that up there should that interest you. Most of the time, we're the only ones judging how we do things so just a reminder that most people aren't caring what we're doing.6
-
@itisjessdarling amazing job!!! I'm on-track to join you there in another 6 months or so!
@wanderinglight I agree with you, the outdoors is for every body. I LOVE to swim and play in the water - as a kid, my family had YMCA memberships just for the pool, and it was all my poor mother could do to convince me to get out of the water once I was in it. My husband and I had a little beach picnic this year on Memorial Day; he didn't swim but I did, and I was beaming and giddy the rest of the day after getting to noodle around in the ocean for a few minutes. My hangup is mostly that I don't want to eff around with natural bodies of water alone - the property I live on backs up to a river, I have free access to a dock and a kayak, I could Just Go Kayaking basically whenever. But I don't want to be out there alone, for safety reasons.
Today started out terrible. I woke up with a constellation of pimples all over the tip of my nose, impossible to hide, and wasted 10-15 minutes in the morning effing around with those. My cat threw up this morning, twice, for the third day in a row (hubs has him at the vet now, good vibes are appreciated). Between messing with my pimples and cleaning up cat puke, I ended up leaving late to head to the gym, and I drove all the way there before realizing I left my phone at home (somehow the fact that my car didn't automagically start playing music/podcast didn't clue me in), so I went back for the phone and tripped over a chair in the dark bedroom. At that point it was way too late to do what I needed to do in the gym and still make it to work on time, so I had to skip the gym this morning. Then I got to work and my office shares its paper-thin walls with a classroom and my coworker's office, so I was caught in the crossfire of a lecture about the American civil war and a phone call about veteran's benefits for college - seriously, for as clearly as I could hear the professor he must lecture by standing with his back to the students and shouting at the wall - when my boss comes in and tells me I screwed something up on an account. I am neurodivergent, I have some level of rejection-sensitive dysphoria and am just generally very bad at Handling It when told I've done something wrong, so it takes basically every ounce of willpower that I have to keep it together and maintain a professional façade when that happens at work, and I was already running VERY low on mental energy from all that other crap above. Did I mention all of this happened before 10 AM?
Anyway, the silver lining is that I have like 600 calories left to play with after accounting for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Hubs agreed to come with me to the gym tonight - 6:30 is peak time for all the gyms I have access to so I'll have to come home and go back out later, like 9ish - and afterward we're going to walk down to the other end of the strip mall where our gym is to get some g** d*** ice cream at a really good local place.12 -
@goal06082021 Sometimes all you can do is push through the bad day and hope for better tomorrow. Great job not letting the bad morning mess with your eating plan and for setting up an alternative for your workout. You can do this and I hope that the day gets better for you.3

I'm looking at the way your numbers moved this month to remind myself not to get discouraged when the scale won't budge. Six pounds in three weeks is awesome--but it wouldn't have happened if you'd given up on the tenth!
The scale moves in fits and starts and fallbacks, along with wooshes. I'll keep telling myself that. The scale moves in fits and starts and fallbacks...

Hi ladies! Late starting but I am trying to find friends to add on here to help with encouragement. I haven’t even gotten on the scale recently because it had fluctuated so much when I first started trying that I got discouraged. Monday my husband started CrossFit and that inspired me to jump back into calorie counting.

@sargemarcori - Sometimes it is easy to get frustrated when our short term progress doesn’t match the effort for the week. I have been using MFP on and off for about 9 years and have always gotten discouraged when the short term progress doesn’t match my expectations. When that happens I try to change my perspective to remind myself that a discouraging week like this…
Can still result in an all time weight loss that looks like this:
I will not give up and this slow week doesn’t even slow the landslide weight loss that I am experiencing this year. Stay the course!7 -
@blehhfood and @RebekahAnn88 , welcome new friends!
I did want to just say that both of you have really ambitious stated goals, 20-30lbs in a month. That's a LOT, and neither of you are heavy enough to lose 8-10 lbs in a week safely.* Four pounds in a month is generally considered great progress. You might see a big drop at first, especially if you're cutting carbs - remember "carb" is short for "carbohydrate," eating carbs makes you retain water (which is normal! and necessary! your body is doing its job!) Cutting carbs makes you drop water weight overnight, but that water will all come right back the second you so much as look at a potato too hard. The thing is, though, you aren't trying to lose water. You're trying to lose fat. And that, unfortunately, is a thing that takes time, a lot more time than you've given yourselves.
I want you both to succeed as I want everyone in this group to succeed, but I'm telling you right now on your Days 1 and 2 that you will not reach those lofty goals in the timeframes you specify, not without hurting yourselves (by, say, cutting off your least-favorite leg, that might do it). I don't want to see you posting a month from now about how discouraged you are when you've ~only~ lost 3 or 4 lbs. I want to see you posting six months from now about how awesome it is to be 25 lbs lighter and ready to wow everyone at Christmas.
*A note on safety. To be clear, there is no safe way for ANYONE to lose 8-10lbs in a week. You will damage your body and feel terrible the whole time you're doing so. The people for whom 8-10lbs of fat loss per week is even an option on the table are the My 600 Lb Life set, where staying as heavy as they are is doing more damage than the extreme calorie restriction required to drop fat that quickly would. I don't have the graphic saved but you'll see it if you lurk around the Getting Started boards - the general recommendation for sustainable weight loss is no more than 1% of bodyweight lost per week, maximum. That's a LIMIT, mind you, not a goal. Since you're both over 200lbs (that's who this group is for, after all), you could safely aim to lose about 2lb per week, for a while, but you don't have to do it that fast and in fact you'll have a better time overall if you aim for about 1lb per week.14 -

I did it! I took my first-ever vacation where I allowed myself to splurge some but also stayed active enough that it didn’t totally derail my progress. I set my calories to lose 1lb a week but since I wasn’t about to take out my food scale at restaurants (and Indonesian restaurants are much trickier than restaurants in the US in terms of guesstimating ingredients and calories), my guess is that I was way off in my estimations for at least some if my meals. But I had a great time, felt like I could eat and drink the things that I wanted but also stay reasonable (eg, if I want to have a couple of drinks with dinner, I’ll make sure to choose a lower calorie lunch option). This felt like good practice for maintenance for me,
I had some really exciting NSVs this week too! One of the days on vacation, I started out by swimming laps for 40 minutes to get some exercise in. Then, my friend and I decided to go kayaking in the morning, biking around lunch time, and then we went on a sunset snorkeling trip. A year ago, I would NEVER have been able to do that amount of activity in a day without being super tired or super sore. This year? No problem! This felt like a really big deal for me because part of my motivation for weight loss is so that I can have the kind of life I want to have and be the kind of person I want to be. My second NSV is that I posted a picture of me in a swimsuit on the Internet! I KNOW! I was feeling cute and happy and, even though I’m not yet where I want to be, I am SO much more confident with how I look that I was like, “what the heck!” And just did it.
My goals for this week are to really focus on upping my protein. I have 2 weeks before I take another trip and I’d like to focus on toning my muscles. I still have over 20lbs to go before I reach my goal weight, but my ACTUAL goal is to get there while being happy and active. Being able to do things in my exercise program that I couldn’t do before makes me very happy, so I’m going to focus on that and trust that my weight will work itself out.
Welcome to everyone who is new this week! We got this 💪🏻9 -
I am having a pretty good week. I have been getting in my exercise and again upping my water intake. My youngest and I have been taking the cats out in the yard for a "walk" on leashes since they are indoor cats due to the coyote in the area. This is a lot of standing around, slow walking and a little pouncing but it is increasing my NEAT along with the stairs I do going down to my home office. My calories are staying low and I am back to logging well too. Not doing as well at planning meals but enough so that we could make meals at home except for Father's day on Saturday night and Sunday morning.7

I have been thinking a lot about the post from yesterday about rewarding ourselves for all we have been doing. I decided that I deserved to be treated. It is very rare I buy things just for myself, I am always buying things for my daughter. Well today I decided to change that and take advantage of Prime Day! I may have gone a bit overboard but it's been so long since I've treated myself. I've been working so hard on my life style changes. I bought myself new equipment for working out. My purchases will, hopefully, keep the momentum going. I bought new resistance bands, a thigh master, a balance trainer (similar to a Bosu), and an abdominal machine. I cannot wait for my purchases to arrive. I am so excited!
@wanderinglight Your post resonates with me. I love being outside too and am drawn to the water. I used to be extremely active in my early 20's doing all sorts of outdoor activities. I loved it then and still love it. Though, I don't engage in those same activities anymore due to my weight/size. Physically I have difficulty doing the activities then, like you, I have the same concerns. I will fall and won't be able to get back up, I will manage to get my body stuck and won't be able to get out or I will try to sit and discover I am too big and don't fit. (thinking kayak on those last two) My daughter shares the same love for the water as I do. I want to be able to try these things with her. I don't want to be the mom standing on the shore while my neighbor takes her out in the kayak or on the paddle board. As much as I love my neighbor, I want to be the one sharing those experiences with my daughter.
I 100% agree adventure IS for everyone!
@MissiePK welcome!
I'm right there with you. How inspiring that you have your daughter to share in the activities! I'll be following along with your progress through the Summer4 -

I understand that. I pretty much do all the water sports by myself and try to minimize risk as much as I can by letting people know where I am and always wearing my life vest. I really only stick to flat water paddling for now. I think if I try stand-up paddleboarding I'll see if there's a group I can join!5 -
@AlexandraFindsHerself loved the Pizza avoidance story!
@NEhandweaver nice you started riding your bike.
@flossyposse great start
@azalea4175 sorry it has been tough. Nice NSV with the loose pants.
@goal06082021 I read your ice cream strategies with great interest. I need to tweek how I deal with this issue now. I fit my ice creaminto my calorie goal but I think it would help if I take a step towards less of it. I got an ice cream maker for mother’s day so I could make lower fat and lower sugar ice milk.
What a day you had yesterday. Hope today was better.
@sarah12277 loose gym clothes is good! I am not doing IF but I am waiting until I feel the hunger before breakfast. I am having my last food a bit earlier than before as well.
@itisjessdarling Cograts on making it to Onderland! Exciting!
@girlinkaz so glad to hear about your great vacation

Hi everyone!! My name is Jerrie. And I have been losing and gaining the same weight since 2017. I have gotten to 197lbs a few times 192lbs for a brief moment and before I blink I am right back in the 200s. This time around I want to eat sensibly, workout & be apart of a group where we motivate each other to be the best version of ourselves. Thanks for having me!!11
-
@KeriA oh, have fun with that ice-cream maker! Maybe look into some fresh fruit sorbet recipes?
After my horrible terrible no good very bad day yesterday, I finished my workout and walked out of the gym literally five minutes after the good ice cream place closed, so I ended up having to settle for one of my 160-cal crunchy bars last night instead. Womp womp. Like, they're tasty and all, but I was really looking forward to some salted caramel deliciousness from the good ice cream place. I guess I'll just pocket those 500 leftover calories and hopefully see that reflected on the scale soon. I did have a much better day today, though, thank you.9 -
Got my official MFP weigh in today at home. At 220 so hoping to start seeing the 210s real soon if not tomorrow. Measurements actually didn't change a whole lot except 1 inch at my hips. My gym clothes are much more looser which is what I'll pay attention too. I forgot I had changed my June goal to be 218 for 1 lb per week; so probably won't make that but I'll be very close at least; very happy with that.
The 220s were a very long haul for me so I've been reflecting a bit. Last June was a quick loss rate to start things off. Then the months after that were 1-2 per month. I was thinking of when I started getting back to restaurants etc too and when I started walking with a friend vs trainer sessions. I started to see the 220s in October. It's a tad slower than my first weight loss journey where it took 1 1/2 year for 60 lbs. Seeing that math just to when I get to 200s it's rather close. I just have farther to go this round starting so much higher; 50 lbs to get out of the 200s. I didn't do things that were sustainable last time so I keep making sure this time is. Much better mindset for me now regardless.
DH wanted me to send him the guess pass link for the gym so here's hoping he'll start getting his own to get back into a healthy routine as well. He'll go late at night so the guess pass won't be used with him much. Guess their weights were good enough for him. They have lots of crossfit dudes so it must be good for something lol.
Going to the movies tonight with DH. He's been grabbing snacks at his work and thankfully it's candy that I don't want the whole box of; just a few and I'm good.6 -
What can I say about this week other than its been manic, my eldest turned 19, my daughter passed her national 5 exams and my children have all finished up for the summer holidays so don't return to school till mid August.
As for me well I'm having a pretty rubbish time, basically the period that started a week after my vaccination and a week after I finished a period hasn't stopped so I've now been bleeding for over 2 weeks and I'm absolutely exhausted. I've stuck within my calories and exercised every day but obviously holding onto fluid which won't disappear until this bleeding stops. I had this issue before and it was put down to my iud but I was then put on the pill as well to stop it happening again which it did but somehow my 2nd covid vaccine has triggered it again so it hasn't been a fun few weeks. Keeping my fingers crossed that my body goes back to normal and I see a drop before I weigh myself on the last day of June.

Not the best week for my health. I went over my calories a couple of times, didn’t sleep well a couple of nights so I didn’t exercise the next day, and only met my step goal 3 days (goal is 4). So I don’t think I’ll meet my weight goal this month, but that’s okay. I bought a lot of fruit yesterday and am looking forward to the fresh pineapple. 🍍3 -

Bah, close enough, LMAO. I'm happy with this progress, still very much on track to be in Onederland by the end of the year.
My marathon cooking last weekend was about half-completed. The lasagna came out amazing, so I was pleased with that, but I didn't end up doing the cabbage rolls at all, those are going to be done tomorrow. I also decided not to do the pelmeni, I couldn't get the dough to come together right. So, we're going to have crepes instead; we have apple butter and blackberry preserves for sweet fillings, and smoked salmon and ham for savory ones. Super looking forward to that!9
