seeing my first progress photo16

Just got lab results back. Among other tests, we checked A1c levels. They are 5.6, a very significant drop from my previous best of 6.3. Today is day 122 of no sodas and watching added sugars. Total sugar daily goal is 50g. Not always perfect, but this is progress I can do and see! Yay!23

Put on a size medium dress today and actually thought I looked okay in it... also can still deadlift 130 for 2 sets of 4 reps even though I've lost some weight and haven't been keeping up with it like I should have. That weight is only 20 pounds lighter than I am. So while I'm not at all great at weight lifting, that puts me in novice range not just beginner.24

I've gone back to taking the stairs at work. After about a week, it's noticeably less difficult.
This morning, I climbed the stairs while my mind was occupied with other things. Only after I got to the top did I realize I'd just climbed three flights of stairs without even noticing it.26 -
I got to move to a size down on the belt!24

I just realized that I don't really... think about food anymore.
yes, when I need to buy food or plan a meal but I'm not preoccupied with it the way I used to be. I never even realized how preoccupied until it was suddenly just not there.

I ran on a treadmill for the first time in years tonight. I had been using a stationary bike to help build my leg strength but I thought my weak legs were preventing me from getting my heart rate where I wanted it. While running on the treadmill tonight I still couldn't get my heart rate beyond the mid-point of my target vigorous zone. Turns out that I'm in better cardiovascular shape than I thought. I knew my resting heart rate had changed significantly but this was a nice surprise.20

Went kayaking yesterday and got handed a size S/M life jacket.28

I made my favorite oatmeal raisin chocolate chip cookies today and planned to eat one along with some grapes for desert tonight. I knew it would set me a bit over my calories, but I wasn't too worried since I went for a run today and was active. So, I get my bowl of grapes, weigh out my cookie and sit down, completely guilt-free. Then, part of the way through my grapes (I was saving the cookie for last) I realized that I was perfectly happy just eating the grapes. So I put the cookie back in the bag.
It was a very strange moment because, as I walked back to the couch, I realized that I've never put a cookie back before. But now, full of grapes and pleasantly tired from my day, I just don't want the cookie. Tomorrow I'll probably have one and enjoy the *kitten* out of it, but today I'm happy and full and ready to read a good book with a cup of hot tea.
I know it shouldn't be such a big deal, but it kind of blew me away, tbh.35 -

It's those little moments that get me and point out how much I've really changed my mindset about food. it is no longer an adversarial relationship, rather a "get along" one. Happy for you!13 -
Don't know what NSV is so I'll guess. Today I did something I haven't done in 30 years, I threw out half a large bag of potato chips that was calling to me. A small step in the right direction.18

NSV = non-scale victory. Basically, some other success or benefit you are seeing besides the number on the scale.3 -

Yesterday, for the first time, I managed 10K steps. Congrats to everyone. Reading everyone's accomplishments in this thread is super motivating. Thanks to all.19

Climbing through my car because the Tesla driver parked too close is much easier than it used to be. Then I realised that I didn't need to because I don't need to open the driver door as wide to get in as I used to.
Downside is that I now have wrinkles in the weirdest places, including my underarm, breast, thigh and belly button. Hopefully the skin will shrink eventually, but I still have a lot of fat to lose.10 -
I have been working out on and off for the last couple years (more off this last year) but have always hated running. With gyms closed, and weather nice, I figured it was worth giving it a shot as a main goal. In a handful of runs, I went from hardly being able to run a km without having to walk to being able to run 10, getting faster almost every time. The progress as you lose weight is staggering.
It's not amazing speed wise, but I ran my fastest 3 and 5 k today, 15.51 and 27.53 respectively.19 -
I'm so new here that I don't have any scale victories yet, but I had my first NSV yesterday: Went to the grocery store and bought only veggies, fruit, and Greek yogurt. It just looked so healthy and inspirational up there on the conveyor belt, I couldn't help smiling.24

Went shopping at my favorite thrift store yesterday. Looked only for colorful clothes in size medium. Bought three blouses and a dress. For years I haven't owned a dress except for my wedding dress (32 years old). Didn't even try these clothes on. Just brought all my "mediums" home and performed a style show for my sweet hubby. All fit. Can't wait to wear my new dress. It's been a long time since I felt pretty. Wish my dear parents could see me now. They'd be so happy. Perhaps they can.29

I just returned from a 12 day vacation which included a river cruise and a stay on either end in 2 cities. I made a lot of healthy choices while I was away but I also indulged a lot. I made conscious decisions about what I ate, but I have a price to pay now that I am home. My NSV is that I didn't panic over my weight gain. I didn’t develop the mind set that “I’ve blown it so I may as well eat what I want.” I got right back into healthy eating when I got home. It feels good to be in control.

Two weeks ago I finished my first 5.10, but hadn’t been able to do it again. This morning I got a 5.10-, that same 5.10, and a 5.10+! The 5.10+ didn’t feel hard at all. And bonus, met another partner-less climber at my gym so I’ll actually get to top rope more often, try new routes, and start pushing myself a little more.6
