Last night I was freaking out about something, and I decided I would have some ice cream even though it would put me over my calorie goal. I decided it, announced it to friends in an online chat--then when I went to get it, I decided not to. I'd been over my calorie goal for two days (taking a relaxed weekend) and I didn't want to do it again.18

WTG!!! @sargemarcori2
-
You were strong and did the right thing @sargemarcori I'm sure it wasn't easy but whatever you were freaking out about wouldn't have been solved by ice cream and you might have felt guilt. All the little things add up to a loss. Good job!2
-
Great job both of you, @sargemarcori and @strong_and_healthy4me! I'm proud of you, you made good choices.
Moments like that really remind you that this is a process - it's not a one-and-done thing, where you wake up one morning and Declare That My Life Will Be Different Now. It's actively choosing, every single day, to live your life a certain way. Applies to more than just weight loss - relationships, hobbies, anything important in life, you gotta choose it (prioritize it, make time to pay attention to it, be intentional about it) or you're gonna lose it.6 -
I made beef taquitos for dinner tonight and realized several things.
1) Holy heck these are amazing, and I really hope I wrote down how I seasoned the beef filling, cause WOW.
2) Mine are better than the ones at the Mexican restaurant. I like cooking better than restaurants because then we stay home and aren't subject to the temptations of eating out.
3) I thought I'd want cheese sauce to dip them in, but tried using some mild salsa and found that was really good, too. I can handle doing that swap for the sake of calories, though on maintenance I might have the cheese sauce.
4) I may need to redistribute meal calories because I was getting a little too full after eating three, and maybe should have done two-and-rice instead, with the rest of the calories later in a snack. This is not the first time lately this has happened, and so I'll have to play with my calorie allotments.7 -
Hello everyone. My story is a little crazy. I went from a very active 275 in the beginning of 2019 and by Fall I had a colon blockage and was hospitalized. I got down to 230 from not eating much if at all by the beginning of last year while I was recovering to 314 on the 2nd of this month with back issues. The Dr also proceeded to tell my my A1C was 6.9 and that I’m mildly diabetic. That day I started dieting that day. I weighed myself on Monday and I’d lost my first 10 pounds. My wife is a chef SO it’s been an awful lot of GrubHub. She is not dieting. I’m needing someone who is going to mildly challenge me.

A day or two late but it’s here…
Hello, new here to this thread. I’ve been on mfp for YEARS and have ridden the wagon, fell off, abandoned, forgotten and jumped back on… I’m back here in combination with a another program. 5 weeks strong and a good amount of weight loss, so I’m excited to keep it up with accountability.
Feel free to friend me, I can use all the accountability that I can get!
Im working hard with my husband to get in better health together.
I normally weigh in daily so it will be a nice change to see a slightly larger number here for loss.

I am weighing in a day early this week because I am leaving tonight for camping the rest of the week.
I was really excited to see the whoosh this week. It seems to me that the stalls are getting longer and the whooshes are getting steeper. I just continuously remind myself that consistency is key and my average monthly weight loss remains very stable.9 -
[Hi new here]
I've been on the 1200 calorie diet since the beginning of june and it worked marvelously until July hit. After a month I just havent been able to lose a single pound even though I do daily body weight training and walks and eat about 1200 calories a day including fruits, vegetables, tons of protien and healthy fats. I've been struggling with motivation since I haven't been able to lose a single pound only gained a pound the last 2 weeks.

What should I do to kick start my weight loss again? I feel like my metabolism has slowed to a point where I cannot lose a single pound even in such a diet. My goal is to reach 140 pounds by May 2022 but I qm becoming less confident in reaching my goal when I cant even lose a single pound this early in my weight loss journey.

Given that I can feel that my shoulder and back muscles are a bit swollen, I'm not surprised at all at this. I'm headed in the right direction overall, and it just means there's more water to lose when I hit the whoosh. What's important to me is that overall there's less of me, and I feel stronger every time I go to the gym.2 -
@coralRegime Patience. You've been at this for a month, that's hardly any time at all. Make sure you're weighing your food and using accurate database entries. Trust the process. One weigh-in isn't worth getting worked up over, but if the trend over time (like, 6-12 weeks, not 4-5) isn't in the direction you want it to be, then you can start assessing what you're doing and figure out what you might need to change. Weight loss is not linear - if you've been closing your diary and getting that "if every day were like today" message, stop doing that (or disregard the message as fake BS, because it is). There were so many more factors that made today like today than you can possibly control, beyond what you ate and how much you moved.
Fluctuations in water weight, especially for people who menstruate, make it hard to see fat loss on the scale if you're focused in too close on the day-to-day or even week-to-week measurements, and we retain water for all sorts of reasons: too much sodium recently; not enough sodium recently; hormones at various points in the menstrual cycle; ate more carbs than usual recently; added or increased exercise intensity recently; spent the day doing something labor intensive recently that's out of the ordinary for you; it's more or less humid outside than usual; etc., etc. You can probably eat more than 1200 calories, too - you're taller than I am and it sounds like comparably active, I've been losing an average of a pound per week on double that. Redo the guided setup, set it to 1 lb per week (since it sounds like you might have it set to 2lb per week), tighten up your logging to be as accurate as possible, see where you're at in another 4-6 weeks.8 -

Loved your answer @goal06082021
So hard to remember sometimes . I just had a gain . I ate pasta on Sunday and then had a hard time with eating homemade cookies on Monday. I also realized that after 8 months and being super focused something else may be happening too.
In all the years of unhealthy dieting I would lose and gain( plus) and go through the cycle again. I would find myself sabotaging myself. In social work we call this " the self-fulfilling prophesy" where you can be doing really well and then do something to sabotage your success because you would rather subconsciously be the one to not succeed then go through the disappointment of failing. I know ..... heavy stuff right.
I have seen this with people I have worked with for years, and teach this to my students, when in reality I think it has been in play for my own weight loss journey for years.
Solution......... big step in realizing it ........ exploring why I do this and what I might do to substitute food when I am feeling this way......owning it.
For now pressed the reset button and am moving forward because ever going back is not an option.
Thanks for letting me be so honest

I think what is helping most right now is not eating junk at night. Reading all of your posts have helped me so much. Thanks everyone! 😃

@sandielewis2001 awesome loss!
@coralRegime 1,200 calories seems like a low amount. I am an inch taller than you and a few lbs heavier and eat 1,610 daily calories. I am set to lose 1 lb per week, but my losses surely haven’t been linear. Please keep going! You too @itisjessdarling!
@VickyEltonGreen I know for me in recent years figuring out what’s behind my feelings definitely helps me deal with them. You can do it!
@strong_and_healthy4me congrats on reaching Onederland!
Today I was feeling a little down when I looked in the full length mirror in the restroom at work. I’ve lost 33.5 lbs and I wasn’t seeing it. Had to tell myself to just keep going.7 -
My lower back has decided to spasm. This is not at all helpful. This may impact tomorrow, it certainly has impacted getting ready for tomorrow. Soooo....we'll see. Going to try a hot bath and if it's still doing this then I think that the med I have for panic attacks is also a muscle relaxant, so I'll take one and go to bed.2

Total month loss: ___ pounds
Total loss so far: 38.6 pounds
So... Bit of a change in strategy this week.
I have upped my daily calorie and protein targets. Now working towards losing 1.5 pounds/week, instead of 2.
The 2#/week was going well, weight-wise, but I noticed I was having cognitive issues at 1200 calories/day. I was especially having issues with concentration and completing tasks. I'm not sure if calories or protein or carbs or what is the issue, but my work, which requires a lot of concentration, was suffering - and getting noticed by my boss! - so I needed to try something quick.
And I have to say, I've noticed a difference since changing this past weekend to 1380 calories a day and being mindful to get at least 90g of protein. Thanks to MFP and consistent tracking, I was able to see I was getting only 60-80g of protein a day. Sometimes less. So I make sure to get protein at every meal - no more just a salad - and added a protein smoothie at the end of the day. My concentration is better and I'm getting more things done - not just work but around the house, too.
What's also interesting is that, at the start of this weight loss project, restricting to 1380 calories would have seemed tough, but after being at 1200 pretty consistently, that extra 180 calories seems like a lot of food!
I'm going to play around the next couple weeks and see if it's calories or protein or what, but if I can keep losing at 1380/day and feeling this good, that's a win and I'll stick with it.
As for my weight - not sure why it's gone back up. Maybe the change in calories, maybe because I got a wicked sunburn on Saturday (d'oh!) and it hurts, itches, and may be affecting other systems. ??? I've learned to have patience and see how these things play out, so not gonna stress.
Have a good week everyone!
ETA: I just did a quick search and indeed, a bad sunburn can cause a temporary weight gain.
https://coderedlifestyle.com/sunburns/
There's even an MFP thread about it (of course!): https://community.myfitnesspal.com/en/discussion/254779/weight-gain-from-bad-sunburn7 -
Hello! I've been on mfp for many years but the last couple months I have been the most consistent because I want to lose weight and be healthier!! I moved a year and a half ago and just lost track of weight and calories!! I started walking at lunch for 45 minutes and either an evening 30-45 minute walk with the dogs or a quick workout! Meal Prep has been my friend lol.

@coralregime. Don’t give up! Are your clothes fitting better? Do you feel stronger and more flexible? Those are positive changes, even if the scale isn’t doing what you want it to right now. Sometimes people plateau and that’s the hard time — if you keep doing the right things, the weight will come off, but if you don’t it will only go up higher than you were before. You are eating healthy and exercising! Those are good changes to make permanent!!4
-
So I just started today. My starting weight is 276.4 pounds. So excited for this community to help keep me motivated.8

Coming back to mfp after idk how long away. Had surgery last month and trying to get back on the fitness wagon post covid like many. Thought had a dr's phone appt this am and mistaken, it is next week. Went out to lunch (thai) with a good friend. Tired of seeing my weight creep upward.6

Still showing up! Had another 2lb loss this week, which honestly was surprising but I’ll definitely take it 😉 I think my evening walks must be good for more than just maintaining my mental stability in lockdown!
Had a couple of fun NSVs this week:
1. I completed my 6th round of a 12 week HIIT program that I’ve been doing since March 2020 (and when I hit the end, I just start back over from the beginning with heavier weights). The last workout that the trainer does is CRAZY hard and this time around, I was FINALLY able to complete the whole thing without any modifications! This was such a victory because I remember yelling at the screen the first time that workout came around: “ARE YOU KIDDING YOU WANT ME TO DO WHAT NOW?” It’s so exciting to be getting so much stronger through this journey.
2. I have rediscovered a love of t-shirts! I used to wear a lot of fitted t-shirts and had stopped over the last number of years. I never put my finger on why but I realize now that it was because they stopped looking flattering (even if they were the right size) at my heavier weight. Well, I am glad to say I now have regained (from my past closet) several t-shirts that look super cute and I love them!
3. This is a SV but I hit -50lbs this week! This was a mid-term goal that I’ve been working toward for a long time and I was thrilled it finally happened. Since we are in lockdown where I live, there’s not much I can do to celebrate (usually I’ll get a mani pedi or something like that) but I’m still enjoying it.
Here’s a pic I made for myself to celebrate -50 (and you can see me demonstrating my love for t-shirts too 😉). Onwards and upwards (or rather… downwards?), ladies! We’ve got this!

Ok, super new here (hoping this is how you post!) but definitely need some support & accountability in this journey. Brief intro: I used to be pretty active, and was always happy with my health & body until my mid 30's. Then I had 3 kids in 5 years, was married to a very controlling person, and fell into a depression. I kept eating like I was active (and then some) and the weight crept on while I was in denial.
Flash forward to April of this year when I finally bought a scale after not having one for, well, almost all my life. I was super shocked to see the number and realized it was time to take control of my life. I started exercising daily (started at just 10 minutes a day, but working my way up) and cut out fast food but wasn't seeing any movement in the scale. Finally found this tool earlier this week & I am putting it to use. I've shed the husband, and now it is time to shed the weight!

Welcome to the new people joining , great to see your posts.Look forward to seeing more posts. Always remember success isn’t measured only by the scale also look at all the NSV ( non scale victories) too. This group has been so inspirational . It’s the first thing I read to focus my day.

Hi everyone!
So, I missed last weeks weigh in, we moved last Tuesday, and it was chaos, so I was busy unpacking and cleaning and arranging all week and just totally forgot. But clearly moving is good for weight loss as I’ve lost 4lb in the last couple of weeks so there is a bonus to all the upheaval.
I’m now only 2lb away from my mini goal of getting to 13 stone, so maybe I will do it this month – fingers crossed.
I have to admit I’ve been pretty bad with my eating recently, just due to being on the go non-stop, I’ve not been eating regularly at all and go through whole days with nothing until dinner time. It’s not a conscience decision, as I say, it’s just the hectic nature of moving and working. Quite frankly I am shattered and feel like I could do with a month’s holiday on a beach somewhere, but that won’t be happening any time soon, so I’ll have to make do with some English sunshine and the back garden.
I plan to get back into a proper routine over the next few weeks, well, I will when I can find the cooking utensils…
Hope everyone else is happy and well.
