Last night I was freaking out about something, and I decided I would have some ice cream even though it would put me over my calorie goal. I decided it, announced it to friends in an online chat--then when I went to get it, I decided not to. I'd been over my calorie goal for two days (taking a relaxed weekend) and I didn't want to do it again.18

WTG!!! @sargemarcori2

You were strong and did the right thing @sargemarcori I'm sure it wasn't easy but whatever you were freaking out about wouldn't have been solved by ice cream and you might have felt guilt. All the little things add up to a loss. Good job!2
-
Great job both of you, @sargemarcori and @strong_and_healthy4me! I'm proud of you, you made good choices.
Moments like that really remind you that this is a process - it's not a one-and-done thing, where you wake up one morning and Declare That My Life Will Be Different Now. It's actively choosing, every single day, to live your life a certain way. Applies to more than just weight loss - relationships, hobbies, anything important in life, you gotta choose it (prioritize it, make time to pay attention to it, be intentional about it) or you're gonna lose it.6 -
I made beef taquitos for dinner tonight and realized several things.
1) Holy heck these are amazing, and I really hope I wrote down how I seasoned the beef filling, cause WOW.
2) Mine are better than the ones at the Mexican restaurant. I like cooking better than restaurants because then we stay home and aren't subject to the temptations of eating out.
3) I thought I'd want cheese sauce to dip them in, but tried using some mild salsa and found that was really good, too. I can handle doing that swap for the sake of calories, though on maintenance I might have the cheese sauce.
4) I may need to redistribute meal calories because I was getting a little too full after eating three, and maybe should have done two-and-rice instead, with the rest of the calories later in a snack. This is not the first time lately this has happened, and so I'll have to play with my calorie allotments.7 -
Hello everyone. My story is a little crazy. I went from a very active 275 in the beginning of 2019 and by Fall I had a colon blockage and was hospitalized. I got down to 230 from not eating much if at all by the beginning of last year while I was recovering to 314 on the 2nd of this month with back issues. The Dr also proceeded to tell my my A1C was 6.9 and that I’m mildly diabetic. That day I started dieting that day. I weighed myself on Monday and I’d lost my first 10 pounds. My wife is a chef SO it’s been an awful lot of GrubHub. She is not dieting. I’m needing someone who is going to mildly challenge me.

A day or two late but it’s here…
Hello, new here to this thread. I’ve been on mfp for YEARS and have ridden the wagon, fell off, abandoned, forgotten and jumped back on… I’m back here in combination with a another program. 5 weeks strong and a good amount of weight loss, so I’m excited to keep it up with accountability.
Feel free to friend me, I can use all the accountability that I can get!
Im working hard with my husband to get in better health together.
I normally weigh in daily so it will be a nice change to see a slightly larger number here for loss.

One week in and decided I needed to go for it and be transparent and accountable. I am a caregiver for my mom with dementia so I really struggle with the self care at times.

I am weighing in a day early this week because I am leaving tonight for camping the rest of the week.
I was really excited to see the whoosh this week. It seems to me that the stalls are getting longer and the whooshes are getting steeper. I just continuously remind myself that consistency is key and my average monthly weight loss remains very stable.9 -
[Hi new here]
I've been on the 1200 calorie diet since the beginning of june and it worked marvelously until July hit. After a month I just havent been able to lose a single pound even though I do daily body weight training and walks and eat about 1200 calories a day including fruits, vegetables, tons of protien and healthy fats. I've been struggling with motivation since I haven't been able to lose a single pound only gained a pound the last 2 weeks.

What should I do to kick start my weight loss again? I feel like my metabolism has slowed to a point where I cannot lose a single pound even in such a diet. My goal is to reach 140 pounds by May 2022 but I qm becoming less confident in reaching my goal when I cant even lose a single pound this early in my weight loss journey.

Given that I can feel that my shoulder and back muscles are a bit swollen, I'm not surprised at all at this. I'm headed in the right direction overall, and it just means there's more water to lose when I hit the whoosh. What's important to me is that overall there's less of me, and I feel stronger every time I go to the gym.2 -
@coralRegime Patience. You've been at this for a month, that's hardly any time at all. Make sure you're weighing your food and using accurate database entries. Trust the process. One weigh-in isn't worth getting worked up over, but if the trend over time (like, 6-12 weeks, not 4-5) isn't in the direction you want it to be, then you can start assessing what you're doing and figure out what you might need to change. Weight loss is not linear - if you've been closing your diary and getting that "if every day were like today" message, stop doing that (or disregard the message as fake BS, because it is). There were so many more factors that made today like today than you can possibly control, beyond what you ate and how much you moved.
Fluctuations in water weight, especially for people who menstruate, make it hard to see fat loss on the scale if you're focused in too close on the day-to-day or even week-to-week measurements, and we retain water for all sorts of reasons: too much sodium recently; not enough sodium recently; hormones at various points in the menstrual cycle; ate more carbs than usual recently; added or increased exercise intensity recently; spent the day doing something labor intensive recently that's out of the ordinary for you; it's more or less humid outside than usual; etc., etc. You can probably eat more than 1200 calories, too - you're taller than I am and it sounds like comparably active, I've been losing an average of a pound per week on double that. Redo the guided setup, set it to 1 lb per week (since it sounds like you might have it set to 2lb per week), tighten up your logging to be as accurate as possible, see where you're at in another 4-6 weeks.8 -

I have officially plateaued at three weeks at the exact same weight. I have been eating at a calorie deficit and moving a lot more, but still didn't lose. I will just push through and hopefully see a loss next week.7 -
Loved your answer @goal06082021
So hard to remember sometimes . I just had a gain . I ate pasta on Sunday and then had a hard time with eating homemade cookies on Monday. I also realized that after 8 months and being super focused something else may be happening too.
In all the years of unhealthy dieting I would lose and gain( plus) and go through the cycle again. I would find myself sabotaging myself. In social work we call this " the self-fulfilling prophesy" where you can be doing really well and then do something to sabotage your success because you would rather subconsciously be the one to not succeed then go through the disappointment of failing. I know ..... heavy stuff right.
I have seen this with people I have worked with for years, and teach this to my students, when in reality I think it has been in play for my own weight loss journey for years.
Solution......... big step in realizing it ........ exploring why I do this and what I might do to substitute food when I am feeling this way......owning it.
For now pressed the reset button and am moving forward because ever going back is not an option.
Thanks for letting me be so honest

I weighed a day early thinking it was Thursday and decided to post because for one, I’m happy with the results of my first week and two I don’t like weighing more than once a week.
I think what is helping most right now is not eating junk at night. Reading all of your posts have helped me so much. Thanks everyone! 😃

@sandielewis2001 awesome loss!
@coralRegime 1,200 calories seems like a low amount. I am an inch taller than you and a few lbs heavier and eat 1,610 daily calories. I am set to lose 1 lb per week, but my losses surely haven’t been linear. Please keep going! You too @itisjessdarling!
@VickyEltonGreen I know for me in recent years figuring out what’s behind my feelings definitely helps me deal with them. You can do it!
@strong_and_healthy4me congrats on reaching Onederland!
Today I was feeling a little down when I looked in the full length mirror in the restroom at work. I’ve lost 33.5 lbs and I wasn’t seeing it. Had to tell myself to just keep going.7 -
My lower back has decided to spasm. This is not at all helpful. This may impact tomorrow, it certainly has impacted getting ready for tomorrow. Soooo....we'll see. Going to try a hot bath and if it's still doing this then I think that the med I have for panic attacks is also a muscle relaxant, so I'll take one and go to bed.2
