Ayyyy! I still don't think I'll actually make my goal this month but I can damn sure get close enough for jazz. I'll be happy with any negative progress between this week and next.
I realized, I think from a thread somewhere around here, that the Strong Curves lifting program I've been following for June and July is actually a 12-week program and not 8 weeks, so I guess that's half of my exercise for August sorted - lucky I have a blank page in my journal next to the June and July spreads, so I can just keep that going all in one place! The spreadsheet I found for SC only included the first 8 weeks for some reason. Weeks 9-12 Workout A involves push-ups, I haven't decided if I'm going to do wall/incline push-ups on a bench or something, or just swap in a chest press of some kind instead. I hate push-ups, my wrists don't like being hyperextended that way.
Among my cooking projects this weekend is going to be homemade marshmallows. Not like, fake sugar-free healthy marshmallows or whatever. Just, marshmallows. The theme for the Reddit 52 Weeks of Cooking challenge for this week is Camping, and the best thing I can come up with is s'mores. I'll need to run back out to the grocery for some unflavored gelatin but it doesn't seem that hard. The tricky bit is slowly streaming molten sugar into a stand mixer while it's running, so it's just dangerous enough to be intriguing.
My sister made homemade marshmallows for our wedding favors (along with her incredible caramel corn). The marshmallows were unbelievable! I can never go back to Jet-Puffed store-bought again. She made a batch of vanilla and a batch of strawberry. OMG my mouth is watering just thinking of them! Good luck!2 -
I usually weigh in on Fridays, but I'm currently house and dog-sitting for a friend in Venice Beach for two glorious weeks and I missed last week's check-in. Oh how I have missed California SO MUCH! I would move back her in a hot second. Anyway, I am weighing myself with her scale but it's showing a few pounds higher. It could be period weight, or I could be a few lbs higher.
Height: 5'11"
Age: 50
Highest weight: 226.6 (May 2021)
Current weight: 223.8 (June 30, 2021)
7/2: 223.6
7/9: 225.6
7/16: 221.4
7/23: 223.8 (different scale)
7/30:
Goal for July: Under 220
Goals for next week:
* TRUST THE PLAN
* Bump up the exercise (not hard to do, as I'm walking the dog many times a day. She has SO MUCH ENERGY)
* Since I'm not weighing everything, I'm going to really stick to intermittent fasting (eating only from 12 - 8pm)
* Stay positive!6 -
** Salty Language Warning **
I just wanted to share a mini victory! I went Stand-Up Paddleboarding for the first time today! I have wanted to do it for YEARS but have been afraid of failing. I'm not used to trying new things at this weight (50lbs overweight), and I was scared I wouldn't be able to stand up or get back on the board if I fell. I don't have the athletic confidence I used to. Add to that, I deal with side effects from my past spine surgeries and have balance issues because my leg and foot have permanent numbness. So I had talked myself out of even trying it but then I snapped out of it. Who even cares if I fail? If I fall? If I look awkward? If it's too hard? None of those things are reasons not to try.
Anyway...I LOVED IT. Fear really is the cockblocker of dreams, you guys.
Side note: I highly recommend taking a lesson. It went such a long way to making me feel more confident, and it was good to learn the proper technique.
(Mug is my design and is up in my Etsy shop now).

I've always wanted to try stand up paddle boarding too!4

@wanderinglight love the update AND the mug Have a wonderful two weeks.
Been a strange month weight wise but have had a great month otherwise. Absolutely need to walk everyday to see the weight come off( for me).
So will do final weight in for the month next Saturday and have crept up to 204 as of this morning . But in honesty I know I’ll take it off and get back on track.
Onward and forward!!!!5 -

I LOVE this mug! And congrats on trying SUP! I've been wanting to for awhile (I have friends that live on the water and have two), but I've been worried I'm too heavy for it.4 -

I definitely recommend trying it! I was inspired to finally take the plunge after coming across an IG post by a woman named Kanoa Greene, completely at random. She leads plus size retreats and I happened to see her first post on stand up paddling. The post basically said "the outdoors is for everybody and for every body," and something about that just struck me in my soul. I've let this weight stop me from doing SO MUCH and I finally just said, ENOUGH.
Another thing that was very helpful was that I watched a bunch of YouTube videos on how to stand up / kneel down, and I practiced that move in my living room 5 or 6 times a day for a few weeks (using a broom for a paddle) so I could get comfortable with it. Once I was on the board, it was easy to just automatically do that move.
I hope you try it! It was magical6 -
For you SUP lovers, Google Mike Shoreman / "The Unbalanced Paddleboarder". He's a friend of mine who went from professional SUP instructor, to unable to walk due to a medical emergency, to now public speaker, author and is preparing to paddle 87 miles across the lake from US to Canada.
Remarkably inspiring.4 -

I'm surprised and pleased, as I went pretty easy on myself this week. I'm behind the eight-ball on a deadline (a date that whooshed by months ago, oops) so I've spent a lot of time planted at my desk. With luck, I'll get this thing turned in today, and then I can get my (happily still shrinking!) backside to the gym!
But NOW I'm gonna do all that stuff!

Hi, Wednesday post
Age 47
Height 5’ 6”
SW 244 (June 1, 2021)
7/14: 231
7/21: 228.1
7/28: 225.8
Goal — under 230 by the end of the month and maintain exercise routine
I’ve been at 226 for almost a week, and it felt like a mini-plateau, and I had to tell myself to keep in track with swimming (an hour or so each day), small meals, and one small snack mid afternoon— I know 225.8 is just a fraction away from 226, logically, but I am rooting for the numerical change anyways! I teach and so it would be really nice to keep on track and lose another 5 pounds in the next three weeks (when I go back to work) so that I can hit 10% of my body weight as weight loss (24 pounds) — so new goal is 220 by Wednesday, August 18.7 -
Age:49
Height: 5'7"
Starting weight (1/3/20) 296
July weights:
7/1: 245 (period)
7/7:243
7/14:245 (working out)
7/21: 242
7/28: 241
Well, it's not the goal I had, but I'm not unhappy with it either. I've been spotting on and off the last two days so I don't know whether this is TOM or just something random connected to the whole perimenopause thing.

Weigh In:
Age: 38
Height 5'4"
ATH: 214 (Dec '19)
SW: 203.8
CW: 197.6
July GW: 195
7/7: 198.4
7/14:198.2
7/21:197.6
7/29: 196.8
Weighing in today instead of Wed, I did not exercise as much as I should this month and I can see now it makes a difference. I have also been doing all the summer things such as bbq's with friends, picnics, and two birthday parties! I still need to work on my willpower to choose healthy options. I never keep junk foods in the house and can keep from buying it when im out, but when im with friends/family and they are all available I give in every time.6 -
Age: 38
Height 5'10"
SW Jan 2021: 271.1
SW this month: 217.0
GW this month: 210 (This is the lowest weight I have ever recorded in ~9 years of using MFP on and off)
GW for 2021: 199 (Likely to be reevaluated in a few months)
7/1: 217.0
7/8: 216.8
7/14: 211.8
7/22: 212.4
7/29: 211.8
Back down from last week's weight but not quite meeting my goal for the month. I seem to be in a bit of a stall at the moment but since I am being consistent with my good food choices and exercise I know my whoosh will come.5 -
Having dinner out tonight with a friend, so try to pre-plan my entire day to make sure I have calories available for a cocktail and a bite or two of dessert.
I also have new workout clothes coming from Athleta today, so that's a confidence boost for me - I feel so much more confident when I am wearing cute clothes than when I'm wearing ratty old sweats.4 -
I don't recall if I asked before in this group. But if anyone uses Fitbit and would like to be friends please add me. I could use more Fitbit friends. My username is JeanetteF. on there, same profile picture.
I was able to get my weight moving this week! I am not logging the loss though until this weekend. I was going to log it on Sunday, my normal day, however I realized the end of the month is Saturday. I will log it then to finish the month. I am curious to see what my measurements show for the month, I've been working hard all month. I hope it is reflected when I measure.
@KeriA Sorry to hear your results werent great. I wish you well!
@wanderinglight Congrats on your victory! I am so happy for you!
@seltzer_lover I love that you bought new workout clothes. I just bought new clothes for myself - bras and tees. I agree, it is a confidence booster!

And now for July....
Age 59
Height 5'6.5"
SW: 278 (March 2021)
CW: 236.1 (42# GONE!)
GW for July: Below 232 = 8#
GW for 2021: get to Onederland = 7#/month
FGW: 150 (will then re-evaluate)
7/1: 239.9
7/8: 238.1 (-1.8#)
7/15: 239.4 (+1.3#)
7/22: 241.1 (+1.7#)
7/29: 236.1 (-5.0#)
Total month loss: 3.8 pounds
Total loss so far: 41.9 pounds
Weellllll...... I fell way short of my monthly goal of 8 pounds. Only gonna make about half of that by the 31st.
I went on my "A+ plan" outlined last week: going slightly below (like 50-100) calories needed for 1.5 pounds lost per week, and working to get my protein up. Seems to have solved (most of) my recent problems with late night cravings. I make a mocha protein shake every evening with vanilla protein powder, cocoa powder and decaf instant coffee plus NF milk* and ice. 1 stone, 2 birds.
*fairlife milk which has extra protein has been a big help.
Non-Scale Goals:
1.Get my sleeping pattern back to normal. I've been staying up way too late and then napping. Need to start going to bed at a normal time. Hopefully this will help with weight loss, from everything I've read.
2. Create enough space in my living room so I can do the yoga videos. Still have boxes to unpack from when I moved in May.
Hopefully this will put me back on track for ONEderland by the end of the year.
I do have a doctors appointment tomorrow - routine. Hopefully she will have something positive to say about my weight loss and better blood test numbers.
Thanks to everyone for keeping this thread going - It's helping me a lot!8
