@nay0meh
Can you please share how you got started in weight training. I have NO IDEA where to begin.4 -
@Jamaica113 sent you a friend request!!
First I started with nutrition and cardio and lost 15 pounds
Added in weight training almost two years ago and lost another ~20 but my weight did go up a bit and I felt bigger for a bit from lifting but it was my body adjusting.
I had a personal training session with my gym owner and just sucked up my fear and self conscious feelings and worked every day to keep improving. I wanted a different life and that’s what it is for me-my lifestyle!
❤️ Happy to help however I can!!12 -
I've had six children and always managed to get back down to a reasonable weight until I had my last baby at 37. Well, she's turning 5 next month and I had enough of being overweight.
I started on MFP on 8/11/21. I weighed 161.4 and I'm 5'1". Based on my wrist measurement, I have a large frame, so my initial goal is 135, but I'll see how I feel when I get there.
I've lost 12.6 so far, 13.8 to go.
Diet-wise, I haven't changed much other than logging everything. I have my MFP set to show what my maintenance calories would be at my goal weight and to show my exercise calories for the day from my Fitbit. I try to maintain between a 500 and 750 calorie deficit, depending on how I feel during the day.
I work part-time from home, all online. During my morning shift, I use an under-desk cycle to just stay moving. It's not a huge calorie burner, but I find that it boosts my energy for the rest of the day.
In the afternoons, I alternate between RingFit and Fitness Boxing on my kids' Nintendo Switch. The RingFit is more for strength training and Fitness Boxing is cardio. It's nice because my little kids like to do it with me and I can keep an eye on them!14 -
Hi, I'm 5.1 and started in January 2021 at 180 lb. I did/am doing a program called Optavia, and I'm now at 128.6 lb. I'm using MFP to track my macros and right now I'm in the middle of transition going into maintenance. My goal is to keep my weight steady and using my TEE end MFP to track properly. I'm also working out twice a week.
I believe no matter what program you're doing, you can do it and MFP is such an awesome tool!11 -
Hello I'm 5'2 and have been on MFP for some time, but recently have gotten more serious about tracking/and connecting with like-minded people on here...
My highest weight has been around 153 a few years ago, and I've been yo-yoing between 143-130 (lowest early January), currently at 135.
My goal: To be consistent with my weight (hit/maintain at ~130) and start incorporating more activity (currently I just walk)
Looking to make some connections for motivation and accountability *Add me! 🤸♂️- I like to post healthy meals 🥗 on my feed and encourage those that are working towards their goals.

Hello I'm 5'2 and a half, and age 70. Cant believe that! Gradually added weight over the years, but find it very hard to lose. 18 months ago I needed to have my gall bladder removed, and gained over 3.5kgs in a year.
Started walking and being mindful of what I eat in February this year, basically low carb, been gluten free for years.
Ramped it up a couple of months ago when I started to follow Dr MIchael Moseley's 5:2 intermittent fasting diet, then joined MFP a couple of weeks ago to begin tracking the calories.
Top weight February was 75.6 kg (166pounds) and today 68.4 (150.5). I seem to be more determined this time, having a little success so far. I have really bad knees but manage a 5km walk about 5 days a week.
Really encouraged by all the success stories here, and as we are heading into our Aussie summer, and easing out of Covid restrictions, its easy to feel hopeful. Would like to be about 130 but more interested in health benefits, getting the weight off those knees. Happy to be here.16 -
Can't recommend enough that people get a personal trainer! Seriously ladies, lift heavy weights! I promise you will not look like a man! The more muscle you have, the faster your metabolism and because muscle is more compact than fat, you will look leaner even if your weight is a little higher.
I started 4 years ago at 133 (first photo).
I am presently 116ish (last photo in the blue shirt)
I see a lot of people talking about eating 1200 calories or less. I know that MFP puts that by default, especially for those of us who are small (I'm 5'2"). Especially if you're working out, you NEED TO EAT. I did my current challenge for 12 weeks, lost 8 lbs while eating between 1500-1600 calories, plus working out. Some days were a little higher. The key was to eat clean, whole unprocessed foods.

I love your progress pics, you can just see the major differences! By the by, where is that waterfall picture taken at if you don't mind me asking?!This is a before and during, as I'm definitely not finished yet! I have made significant progress though and figured I'd share. I'm 28 years old, 5'1", SW 213.6 pounds, CW 176.6, GW 130. I started tracking my calories and exercising on 1/1/21. I have been lifting heavy (following the Stronglifts 5x5 program), doing couch to 5k and quite a bit of hiking. The pictures outside are from about a year ago vs a few days ago, and the "official" progress pictures are from the end of January vs a few days ago. I am absolutely thrilled with my progress and never thought I'd make it this far!

I love this thread! 5'3", 140lbs right now, and started MFP with my husband 3 weeks ago. I felt my best two years ago at 125, so that's my goal for now. 15lbs doesn't sound like a lot, but you all know it makes a big difference on a small frame. I haven't been happy watching my weight creep up, so I am taking control of it now instead of later when it'll only be harder.
One of the toughest things I've found so far is that if I tell a friend that I'm trying to lose a bit of weight, they react either dismissively or defensively. For example, I told a close friend that I'm watching my food intake and I got a gym membership and she said "But why? You're already in such good shape", as if I should wait until my weight is all the way out of control before I work on it...? So I find myself framing my goals as "maintenance" instead of "improvement" to make others more comfortable.
It's encouraging to see the success stories here - whether it's 10 lbs lost or 110, you women are amazing16
