Things people say when you lose weight

I've had some nice comments at work. "You are doing great." "You are looking great." One girl said, "When I get my act together and want to lose this weight, I'm going to talk to you about your plan. It is working so well."23

Most comments I get are positive now and then, though.
That whole 'what will I look like if I lose x pounds' thing happens to people who are observing weight loss and people who are losing the weight. We look at ourselves and see the obvious places we store fat - we fail to account for the fact that on everyone, fat deposits basically everywhere. And that some of it is INTERNAL. Ie: Cannot be seen at all.
I have always carried my excess weight primarily in my chest and my gut.
I dropped a shoe size. I dropped TWO ring sizes. I lost weight from my face and my neck and the tops of my shoulders and calves and my forearms and wrists. I lost weight off my BUTT and I always had a flat butt (I thought) Places I never thought were 'fat', STILL HAD FAT and I still lost it from there.
But halfway through loss? People (including me) would looka t the obvious place I had excess weight, and be like 'there is no way you have 30lbs of stomach fat to lose, so if you lose more you will be a skeleton'.
Nope.
I wish by all that is holy that we could choose where we lose from, because I still. have. a. gut. and relatively large breasts. My shape has not changed at all. It's just a SMALLER version of that shape now. And it's still a flat butt, thinner arms and legs, and relatively big boobs.
You and me both.
I will say that my belly DID shrink. If I stand up straight and hold my abs taut, my belly no longer sticks out further than the boobs. So yay, right? Problem is, I lost nothing in the boobs, just went down four sizes in band. And now the shelf that I was apparently resting the Huge Tracts Of Land on is gone, and my shoulders and neck are in pain by about 3pm every day. And I still have all the junk in the trunk making my lower back hurt. And my thighs look worse, even if I can get into pants 3 sizes smaller now.
So yeah. Lose weight, need a breast reduction. (COVID cooperating, it'll happen in '22.) NOT the way I thought this was going to go!20 -

My stomach has definitely gone down - it is definitely smaller than my breasts now and my waist measurement's way different. As is my band size. I even got fortunate and lost a cup size (that was exciting!) There's MORE difference between my breasts and bra now, though.
Mid stages were wild. I lost one cup size on one side about 3 months before the other shrank. I don't know, bodies are weird but I did not enjoy THAT stage at all.14 -
The most annoying thing I've heard was "You are so LUCKY to be thin", coming from my roommate (~5 years ago), who clearly saw me weighing all my food, running 3 times a week and not eating junk food for half a year, and we were almost the same size before I started my diet.18

I showed my sister a before and after picture and she said that I looked better before and to not lose anymore weight 🙄
I'm 183lbs - I'm 30lbs overweight still!

I completely understand I'm 186 lbs and my guy friend said I shouldn't lose more weight because I'm getting to skinny, not even I have 21 lbs left to lose. Which I will lose and still be on the thick side but happy with it.
Do what's best for you.and lose your 30.lbs for you, sorry your sister said that, but people have to get used to your new size as the new normal.and at the end of the day this is for you. Best wishes.🤗❤7 -
Saw my builder yesterday for the first time since June and he just came out with 'You've lost loads of weight since I last saw you, you're skinny now' I told him he also looked like he'd lost a lot of weight and looked skinny (as he did!), he didn't seem too happy to hear it though!
I don't particularly want to be skinny, I want to be fit and strong! Somehow I don't think he wants to be skinny either...6 -
I saw a friend last weekend that I hadn't seen in 18 months.
The first thing out of her mouth, spotting me from afar, was "You've lost weight, no?!". And then other stuff like "I didn't realise you had a waist and nice straight shoulders, an hourglass figure! You used to be more of a rectangle." and how much my face has changed, much less round.
No complaints from me, I've had so few people notice/acknowledge my weight loss so far. It was also a nice change to have someone ask me how I did it and actually listen to the answer

Or disorders. The thing that alerted me to the fact that my thyroid was misbehaving (again; we'll take the rest of it out in January) was that my weight loss, which had been trickling merrily along at a pound a week suddenly stopped dead.
Maybe try a good holistic Dr. before then, if possible to get another opinion, if you think and haven't done before. The one here has done a world of good here for my overall health. Also you may have heard of her before, but just in case not, Dr. Amy Myers, online, too, talks a lot about the thyroid connection. She has a book, too. She is on the top of her game in my opinion. Anyways what ever you do, I wish you and everyone here the best.1 -

Oh man! I get that all the time. I brought a peanut butter and jelly sandwhich to work and someone stared at me saying "You can eat THAT" (implied -'and still lose weight'). Yes. Absolutely, tons of people on this app have figured out ways to eat normal foods in reasonable portions.
My old boss used to be on me every day. "Can you have this?" or You can't have that, right? or "do you eat a salad every day?"(better than a big Mac every day) I I no longer work there. That wasn't the only problem. I said I can have what I want, but some things aren't good for me. I once said said that I already had an accountability person so that is their job to talk to me about how I am doing and what I am eating...5 -
I lost 71 pounds 4 years ago. All the comments I got were positive: "You look great!" "Wow; how'd you do it? (so I can do it too)" "You're my hero!" That last one kinda makes me feel bad now because I've regained a lot of it over the past year -- but I'm working on losing it again.

I am sorry for the thoughtless things people have told you all on here!! Any pictures I can see, look fantastic!!
I am learning hard that we don't have time on this earth to deal with these worthless petty things people can say. We have goals here. We have people to reach to be an example and to help. I listened to a great clip on YouTube yesterday from Steve Harvey. It is faith based and so worth hearing. I am not always in love with his behavior on the game show, but obviously he has had much success. Also Rebecca Zung, lawyer, talks a lot about narcissism and toxicity and she has ways of letting these comments roll off her back. She says that she is like an observer with people for one thing...and she has a saying that she starts with to answer people. I think it goes like, "I can see you saying that...(it keeps it impersonal).... I am striving for it. She is on YouTube as well. I am imaging an invisible shield around me where these comments can bounce off that I don't care to hear and focus right back to all my goals in life like Steve Harvey says (on the goal focus=he has stuff to look right back to on his phone).. This will take continued work, but our self worth is worth it. I am putting goals on my phone right now.1 -

My all time favorite is "I am seeing less and less of you every time I see you".
Other favorites that catch me off guard:
"You're so skinny" always cracks me up. I am like, no one has EVER called me skinny!!
"Did you have surgery to lose weight?" I am not knocking anyone who has it done. I personally would love to have it done. But, I haven't. It's kind of like they can't believe I can lose weight on my own.
"I sure hope you can lose the rest of the weight, you would be such a pretty girl" Well, thank you, I didn't know losing weight would make me pretty.
"You look so good" Was I not looking so good 54 pounds ago??
People can say such hurtful things not thinking about what it does to someone mentally. One day my dad told me I wouldn't be able to fit in one of the kitchen chairs if I didn't start losing weight. I know he thought he was helping. But, that comment kind of damaged me. My mom barely had food in the house because she didn't want me to eat much.12 -
The best thing anyone ever said to me is from a friend I hadn't seen in a long time "Every time I see you, you keep getting younger."13

Mostly the shocked face and words of you lost weight, how much have you loss.
Or someone saying my food couldn't possibly be exciting since I'm not eating fried food to often or they think I'm eating to many green veggies and baked foods, this is hilarious if my food wasn't good to me I wouldn't have come this far.
Also you're getting to slim, I guess people don't know slim anymore, became I'm not it
People are more positive about my loss of 57 lbs though and I still have 21 lbs to go who only knows the responses then13 -

If so, this was said to me by someone who has been very proud of me and a supporter. Please don't turn the "You are looking great" around to something else. She knows she needs to lose a few lbs but isn't in the right frame of mind/timing right now and is saying she wants my help when she is. It was said as a compliment to my willpower and dedication, turning down goodies at work and all.

A coworker who hadn't seen me in 4 months said I was her hero! Am around 40 pounds down, long way to go but feeling more determined with comments like these! And determined not to backslide.11

The one that drives me CRAZY is "what is your secret?" or "what diet are you on?" because, inevitably, when I tell them it was simply eating less and working out more, they roll their eyes with disappointment. Sorry, folks, there is no magic pill!14

I went to a football game about two weeks ago and got multiple off handed comments about my weight from my best friends aunt (who I had not seen in like 6 months) but the one that stuck with me the most is "keep up the good work you're almost getting back to those beautiful pictures of your face that I used to see on my nieces Facebook".
The only thing that did for me was solidify that, although I lost 50 pounds, I don't look good enough yet to society to be acceptable.31 -

Agree NO MAGIC PILL but personally for me Keto is the easiest WOE I have ever done. I have known for near 40 years, that if I eat a starchy carb for breakfast, I would CRAVE a sandwich for lunch and I would NEED them the rest of the day.
But it does also takes willpower & determination to decline them. Especially at work.7 -
