@martaindale Thanks! I'm hopeful this works for me.
@shanaber Thanks! I'm going to try with the jumping in, but I work nightshift, so I tend to be more active in the evening/wee early morning hours in EST and I end up missing a lot of the conversation before I'm able to chirp up. lol17-Nov: I made sure when I went to Wal*Mart after work I walked the entirety of the store before I found my way to the section I needed. Ran 2 miles and walked 2 miles this evening. Shins felt a little tight, but not the usual sharp pain.

I arrived in DC about 1:30 this afternoon and the weather was AMAZING. 73 degrees and sunny. I got in my hotel and immediately changed into my running clothes and headed toward the National Mall. I ended up running a lot longer than I planned, but it was just so beautiful and there is so much to see and it was a rare run that felt like I could just keep going. Tomorrow is supposed to be only 47 degrees high and I'll be busy so I'm glad I was able to get out there and do a longer run today.

I lived in Arlington for quite a while and I used to bike into DC past oldtown Alexandria and the Airport and it was quite fun to be able to go all over the city without worrying about parking. Sometimes I would take the trail along the Potomac the other way all the way to Mt Vernon. It was a lovely ride but this was in the 80's/90s so I have no idea how it is now. Should be some great fall leaves I would think.
I am still really hating this new format. It seems like the fonts are all over the place and you have to scroll thru a lot of things to get where you want. Some of the more important links are teeny tiny. I think it would have been better if someone who actually USED the bulletin boards worked on the changeover. Of course that's an assumption but I could not see it otherwise.6 -

Keeping it easy this week with my 3.1 minimum for the Don't Hug a Runner Yet challenge. I have a big weekend planned with two trail runs amounting to about 20 miles so I don't want to overdo it.
I signed up for a trail race at the end of January. In Massachusetts. It starts at 8pm. Should be fun and treacherous! LOL9 -

Cloudy, low 30s F, with a little light snow being driven by a gusty northwest wind. Heard snow geese this morning.
You mean I don't have to type the whole month of running in from scratch???????
When you pop in here claiming your December 2021 mileage, what accomplishments will you have made?
PUT THE FUN BACK IN THE RUN!

Not two words you typically see in the same sentence! There are a couple of nighttime trail races in my area that I have wanted to try out. The only thing keeping me from doing it is not wanting to seriously injure myself. I run at night all the time but almost entirely on sidewalks that I know like the back of my hand.@shanaber Thanks! I'm going to try with the jumping in, but I work nightshift, so I tend to be more active in the evening/wee early morning hours in EST and I end up missing a lot of the conversation before I'm able to chirp up. lol
No worries! We have people here from all around the world so people post and reply throughout the day and night. You're not ever late to a conversation.

Sleasy and Measy.. interesting ways to catagorize runs.
19 Nov total 120.91 out of 150 goal. 164.26 left for run the year so need to avg 3.91 the rest of the year to complete on time. It got very chilly overnight here in Tx. Low 40's. But lately I have been choosing to underdress. I walked outside and it was not very windy and looked like it was going to get sunny so I chose short, t, lightweight jacket and lightweight gloves and a hat. turned out to be pretty good for the shorter distance. Too much if I was going to do a lot more I think tho.

OMG... Good thing I had a jacket on over my t. Just shows what an BIG effort I was putting in I guess.5 -
6.5 miles in between finishing work and picking up the youngest from school. Average pace of 9:12 min per mile and 510 feet of elevation.
I incorporated some 30 secs of Tempo running during my run as I'm not doing enough sprint work. I surprisingly enjoyed it and it made the run more interesting.

I got busy yesterday and never did post my run. It was cooler yesterday it was 43°F feels like 37°. This morning it was 34°F feels like 31°. There was more wind yesterday, but it wasn't too bad. Yesterday I ran in shorts, a t-shirt with my sleeves and gloves plus an ear band. I was dressed well. I pushed my sleeves down a couple of times, but ended up pulling them back up. I ran 5 miles. Today was just 3.3 miles for the Don't Hug a Runner Yet 5K challenge. I wore pants today with t-shirt and the sleeves and gloves again. I was dressed well again, but probably would have been too warm in pants if I had gone further.
Both runs were really good and today I felt like I could go forever. The moon was gorgeous and I just felt really good.
Yesterday was a mostly good run. But less than half a mile from home there was a dead dog lying next to the sidewalk. It was on the highway and I think he got hit by a car and whoever hit him or maybe someone else moved him onto the grass next to the sidewalk. He was a beautiful black lab and was wearing a collar so obviously belonged to someone. It really made me sad. When I went to work I drove by to see if he was still there so I could see if there were any tags on the collar. There were two young men who were checking his tags and calling the owner. I was glad. I felt bad about leaving him before, but it was 5:30 in the morning and it was dark.
2021 Races:
4/24/21: Run For The Children - 10K PR 55:46:28.
11/6/21: Run For 57th AHC Half Marathon - PR 2:07:11 and 1st in AG7 -
Got out late, 5k in my dodgy neighborhood plus a little walk. We tried a different path for our walk but forgot the sidewalk ends over there so ended up walking the shoulder next to the railroad for half a mile with rush hour traffic in our faces. Ugh! I could write a book about why this is a terrible city for runners.
On that subject, local people keep holding emergency meetings with the various law enforcement, city council and so on, trying to find out why no one is doing anything about the street racers. It’s my private opinion that the police are on the take. Nothing else makes sense. I could tell you exactly where they are going to be and when on any given night, they stay out there for hours with their engines audible for miles, and the police claim they can’t catch them.. Well, on weekends they are doing donuts on the dead end which backs onto my house, and then racing on the roads in my neighborhood. My husband and I have actually run through the middle of a street race once by accident. They were very polite to us and stopped the race until we played through. But I have raccoon and cat friends who live around here and I don’t want them flattened. Also, according to the police the reason they are so willing to do tricks in their cars is that they steal the cars, race them, then abandon them. There was a very nice brand new Mustang abandoned on the curb facing the wrong direction with one wheel snapped off about a block from our house this week.
So the city voted to give the police a special fund to catch these guys. You know what the police department did with the money? They put up electronic signs which say “SLOW DOWN MEMPHIS.” That’ll definitely stop street racers in stolen vehicles!3 -

It's simple: Sleasy is between slow and easy, and measy is between moderate and easy. I give myself partial credit for exceeded the slower pace, even if it's short of the faster pace.
Now you have some insight into the way the minds of old people work!!!5 -
18-Nov: I was a slacker today and did nothing. Actually, it was more of... work wiped me and I wanted nothing more than to fall into bed. Which I did. I'll make up for it tomorrow.17-Nov: I made sure when I went to Wal*Mart after work I walked the entirety of the store before I found my way to the section I needed. Then I back-tracked to find the check-outs. I know it's not much, but it's a start. I purchased a convertible ropeless jumprope that will hopefully be in soon and I can also start incorperating more movement at work. Fingers crossed.

Miles for Nov 127.3 out of 150. Hoping to finish up with over 1900 miles for the year this month to sort of coast into Run the Year finish without a lot of pressure.
@sweetdaisy13 adding tempo to my runs is the ONLY way I can increase my pace. And I find that it is normally my cadence which has the most effect since I have short little legs. I used to count steps and do say 60 as fast as I could every qtr. Then I had a coach tell me that was not really going to help longterm and I should be doing a complete qtr. Well I sort of hedged and now I might do 200 steps at tempo every half mile. I would LOVE to get faster but I may have reached my limit just getting under 9 minute miles.
@kghart so sad about the dog. I see that sometimes and it makes my heart break. Esp when they appear to be someones pets. The weather HAS been fabulous for running the past few weeks. And I know everyone is used to me complaining about it but I got nothing but HAPPY right now.6 -
7 miles for me this morning. Just a very relaxing interval day to get back into the swing. Never felt any sharp pains, so I'm calling it a successful return.

I’ve been so busy this week that I haven’t logged in here, so many pages to catch up!
I’ve completed 3 short training runs this week. The first was a 20 min run at 11:23-12:13 pace. The second was a goal pace run. Today was stride repeats. Tomorrow’s long run should be 6-7 miles.
Miles for November: 31.366 -
I just had a memory pop up on my
Facebook that said I ran my first race, a 5K, 11 years ago today. 😁7
