Anyone here OLD? I'm 75 and just starting MFP. Would like to shed @ 45 lbs.
I'm kinda old, just a little younger than you (I'm 66). One of my RL friends lost 25 or so pounds in her 70s, not calorie counting, just cutting back. I lost 50+ pounds at 59-60, calorie counting, have stayed at a healthy weight since.
In general, I don't think age per se limits *anything*. Sometimes, things that are more common with age (disabilities, for example) impose some limitations, but age itself? Nah, I don't think so.
Will I change my mind in a decade? Maybe, but quite a few of my active, athletic, slim friends are in their 70s and even 80s, so I'm thinking that's not inevitable.2 -
I'm posting this here, because I think that if any MFP group will Get It, this one will. I've found that as I go on in life, certain dates have a special weight. For me, this one does.
December 3, 2021 would be my 44th wedding anniversary . . . except that I was widowed on October 13, 1998.
I'm not complaining, truly: I'm happy, life is good. But still . . . .
I'm a little nostalgic, a little sad, today. I'm indulging that, a little, too.
Tomorrow, back to normal: Forward progress.
Wishing everyone a great weekend!13 -
Hello Ann, I am sorry for your loss and this date will hold so many memories for you. (((HUG)))
Your post meant a lot to me as tomorrow (Dec 4) is my Dad's birthday and I was thinking about him and feeling blue, even though he died over 10 years ago. It is okay to mourn those we loved, no matter how long ago we lost them. 💔8 -
I'm sorry for your loss Ann. Unfortunately, the older we get, the more we add to those dates. Monday, Dec 6 will be a little bit tough for me. It would have been my older brother's 67th birthday. We lost him on March 27 to aggressive pancreatic cancer. As strange as it sounds, I'm grateful that the universe saw fit to take him when it did. The area he lived in has been hard hit this year with forest fires and then flooding. I can't imagine how terribly difficult it would have been for him to try and negotiate everything while being sick and doing chemo.
Ladybug, sorry for your loss as well.
We were expecting to wake up to snow this morning, but it did not materialize. That means that I can get outside and take a walk instead of using the treadmill.
I'm just trying to stick to my calorie counting and getting the walking and yoga in. Coasting along weight wise which at this time of year is probably the best I can hope for. LOL My son wants to do Christmas baking today so I many have to indulge in a piece of shortbread or a mince tart. But only one. I'm thankful not to have a sweet tooth.
Have a wonderful weekend!2 -

As @alteredsteve175 once said "We are Seasoned Citizens!" I told that to someone this week and they loved it!
To answer @alteredsteve175 I'm doing well! I crossed today out of the BMI Obese to the Overweight category! I hope all is as well as can be expected with you.
Sorry for all the loses related to dates but hope you have wonderful memories of happy times to cherish!4 -
Hugs and sympathies to you, too, @Ladybug8882021 and @SharGetsHealthy! It's comforting to me to know that I'm not the only one who has some feelings of nostalgia, some mix of mourning and memories and grief and love, on certain dates.
I also appreciate everyone's support. It's meaningful, to me.
Sending strength and caring to both of you - Ladybug, today; and Shar on Monday. ((Hugs!))2 -
As @alteredsteve175 says I had a "swoosh" from 12/1 to today 12/5 of 4.4 lbs!!!!2

Hi all, found this thread and thought I’d say hi. 64 and relating to the topic. Been tending to go up and down in terms of weight, glucose levels (been type II for a couple decades or so), and focus on health. It just gets harder as we age. It’s still the only game in town though. Hope everyone has a great and productive week.3

Welcome to all our new joins and hugs to all that are feeling sadness.
This week I am celebrating my 75th Birthday and have plans to enjoy to the fullest dinner and a trip to the theater as well as a big Party planned by my kids.
@sirk401 - Success in your weight loss trip is very possible at this age. I joined MPF in 2018 and since have lost 65 pounds (down 95 from my high) my BMI is now in the normal range and I feel more able to move easily. At times it felt like it was taking forever but slow loss was my goal as much as making life style changes that are sustainable. Each morning I track my food for the day and always take a daily 30 minute walk . I really don't feel old, but I do have many old friends. Being timeworn has given me the opportunity to become proficient in a tested healthy weight life.
We can all do this.
For now I plan to eat cake (just a little.)

I'm not old. I'm not. I'm not. HAHA! 😁
As @swimmom_1 noted, we're seasoned. Very well seasoned. Gotta' embrace it and make the best of it. You're in good company here, @sirk401.
Welcome to all the new folks here. You've come to the right place for support and encouragement.
Condolences to those of you remembering those who have left this vale of tears. I don't know if there is an afterlife, but I hope there is. I have some catching up to do with those that are gone.

Well done, @anawake13. 👏👏👏 I always enjoy a break from the routine. And then back to the regularly scheduled program. 😁4 -
Lost two pounds on cruise so good to see. Gave me desire to avoid six sins of Christmas past better known as panatone, homemade truffles, bread pudding with whisky sauce, moms fruitcake and thin ginger snaps. As good as those things are the results wipe out all my hard work, especially since I eat 80% of it and my husband only eats 20%. Every year I say I will just have will power which is never the case. Glad I have all of you to motivate me, thank you all and happy holiday season. Stay healthy and safe6
-
Mmmm thin ginger snaps- forgot all about them!! 😋
Great loss after your cruise @anawake13!1 -
Congrats on the loss @anawake13!
I don't bake nearly as much as I did when the kids were little. I don't have much of a sweet tooth myself, so a shortbread or two and the odd tart will suffice for the whole season. Having said that, my son and I baked shortbread yesterday. Fortunately, there are three men in the house who will devour them. On tap for today, ginger crinkle cookies and butter tarts.
After adjusting my heart med back up a little bit, my weight seems to have plateaued but I'm still maintaining. So, I guess that's a bit of a win. I'm not going to make myself crazy trying to up my exercise until after the holidays. Then I'm looking at going to the nearby recreation centre (where my yoga class is) and using the weight equipment. I used to use the weight room but have gotten out of the habit and really need to get back at it. It will only be beneficial all around for weight loss and aging.
Have a great weekend everyone!8 -
We've had big windstorms and freezing cold winter weather where I live, lots of icy parking lots and slippery slopes. I bought boots that have studs built into them, totally impressed and wearing them everywhere! Except.....at my own home I stepped outside to feed the birds on my deck and went sailing down the steps, hitting my tailbone over and over. Probably broke my coccyx, but since there is nothing you can do for them except wait for time to heal, I don't plan on getting any xrays, etc. I used a travel neck pillow to sit on, works great to relieve pressure when sitting. Walking pretty funny, and bending over is miserable, but life goes on and time will heal me. Sure put a big halt on my exercise routine! And hahaha...this adds a new dimension to the slang phrase, that I am all "butt hurt"11

Oh my goodness! That sounds very painful! I remember banging my coccyx really hard a few times when I was growing up and it sure did hurt. Wishing you a speedy recovery and be careful!

Wishing you a speedy recovery. I've had the same thing when I fell down a flight of stairs and know how painful it is. My son is an orthopedist and says it's a real pain in the a..1
-
@SbetaK - Sorry to hear about your mishap. I'm glad that your injuries weren't more serious. You kids need to be more careful. 😁 Hope you're back to full activity level soon.
It's Christmas season, for certain. Temptation is everywhere. Someone posted this reminder recently somewhere here on MFP. "It's okay to be hungry." Not starving, of course, but there's no need to feel stuffed, either. Will try to remind myself of that as I pass on (most of) the cookies and candies. 😎
Realized over the weekend that my spouse is now going to bed very early every night. That means I can get to the gym for an hour or so in the late evening. My son is there with her to help her if needed. Went for my first workout last night. Felt great and that will help me tremendously.
Keep fighting the good fight, people!12 -
December 14-169.4 lbs :-) Yessss! Finally into the 160's! But NOW I am thinking about getting into the 150's! What a battle going on in my head! I got a later start today. I only did 140 minutes on my elliptical for 11 miles today.
Down 85.6 lbs so far. 6.8 lbs since December 1!5 -
@swimmom_1 ONLY 140 minutes your elliptical?!? I have often marveled at your elliptical times! I do 20 min, 5-6 days/weeks (fat-burning program with an incline) and I can't imagine one minute more. My husband does 25 minutes/day and the thought of that is overwhelming, lol! You go girl!1
-
@MaggieGirl135
I can only do it because I think I "zone out" in old TV shows on Peacock on my tablet! And because of it, I get the steady weight loss. Which it turn motivates me to do it 3 times/week on my off work days. It's my "circle of (Life, LOL) exercise"!1 -
Ran across this on Tumblr this morning. Love that attitude!

I really wanted to exercise this morning but it was too cold to walk outside and not enough time to get all bundled up to try and do it. I think I’ll have to make exercise in the winter to go to the gym like an appointment for 2 or 3 times a week, and give it 2 hrs. I’m doing physical therapy now and that is taking time. When that is done I’ll begin the gym routine. I think I’m going to have to schedule it like an appointment. Otherwise I’ll end up like this morning where I wanted to exercise but didn’t have the time. Basically I’m planning my health routine come the new year. I’m planning exercise and nutrition guidance to lose weight. It’s all good. I hope I can do it. I never really had a health routine but I want a long healthy life. So I’m going to set goals that will happen in the new year. Now I just have to finish out the last 2 weeks of this year with work stuff and doing what I do now. It’s all good. Life is exciting!!5
-
I am new to this app. I’ve just turned 70. I have 2 bad knees ands couple of bulging discs. I’m up and out to work daily, but a little slower. I am vey much over weight, but would be happy to lose 50 lbs. That’s my goal. I also want to increase my energy level. I am out of shape, have no stamina and am concerned about increasing my activity level.5
-
Just checking in. Wishing you all a wonderful holiday season. Stay healthy, safe and enjoy those you are with. I'm looking forward to being with my son, daughter in law and grandaughter. I'm going to enjoy the company and focus on them rather than the food.🌲🌲5
