Jan 1 - 4.02 avg pace 9:10 2 splits under 9 and 2 under 10...
welcome back Eleanor and Faebert. I certainly recognize your names!
Perceived effort is very interesting to me - esp wearing a watch which I can look at hr and pace during my runs. Usually my first qtr is about 10. Yesterday altho my perceived effort was about normal my first qtr was almost 11. Now some of that is the GPS is a little crazy when its foggy and drizzly but some of that is me thinking I am working hard when I am not. I have to say if I were to guess at my runs and splits and pace and HR based on perceived effort on my part I would be way the heck off. It's one of the reasons I think the tech we have now is so much more helpful for training than when I first started in the 70's holding a stop watch... LOL6 -
Happy New Year! I started the year with a 4.05 mile progression training run. I am supposed to have a 2 hour long run tomorrow, but it looks like storms ALL DAY. I am hoping there will be a break somewhere for me to get out.
Welcome back @faebert and @eleanorhawkins.5 -

Happy New Year!
I haven't run since last January and April (to be specific). There's a guy on my street who runs often. I saw him on the return from my walk, and envied him for getting started months earlier when it was warm... Now the lungs burn for starting up again, hahaha.
Maybe I'll buy those running shoes and warm running socks THIS year! Happy running!7 -
I'm still here, just lurking still, and into the foreseeable future. I'm getting a look at my foot and so-far suspected plantar fasciitis Tuesday by my doctor's office. So for now still just trying to heal something that best I can tell I have been unable to completely heal even with no runs, then no walks, to
under 5k steps/day, and even further with treatments like stretches during the day and a Strasburg sock at night with the thinking that I was damaging it too much after it contracted. In fact, it's like it might be getting worse but I wasn't figuring that out because I was simultaneously doing more and more to deal with it, making it just seem mostly the same over time until now doing so little there is not much more to do. I'm curious to see where this goes now.
We got a new kitten (Marley) in October. This pic is a two-fer since it shows one of my Injinji toe socks as she peeks out from inside my pants leg...
And a crow
Wishing all of you the best of luck this month and throughout 2022!5 -
Oh, this is my spirit animal. My grandson Zoey. She is a brindle Pit mix. Sweetest dog I have ever known!

Happy New Year's all! I am looking forward to many, many great runs in 2022!!
I am loving all the pictures of spirit animals and pets! @Scott6255 - that brindle baby is beautiful! Love her markings! How old is she?SummerSkier wrote: »Jan 1 - 4.02 avg pace 9:10 2 splits under 9 and 2 under 10...

@SummerSkier - I just read this (from Six Minute Mile) on why we should try to run by perceived effort... I especially like the part in bold.
Running by feel is one of the most important skills you can develop as a runner. While fitness trackers and watches are useful tools, they aren’t always available. They can also discourage you from connecting with your body and figuring out intuitively if you need to go faster or slower. So, this week, leave the gadgets behind for a run and find your pace naturally. If you’re not sure how to get started, watch the short video below to see an exercise that will develop your ability to run by feel: “This 5 Minute Test Will Transform Your Running Forever.”

oh @WhatMeRunning hang in there. Love Marley! absolutely adorable. Thanks for the sock! 😏
I have 3 dogs and 3 cats plus one cat that is outside as she refuses to share the house. She runs, they (cats) chase; its a one-sided game.
I love all the animals! Good vibes, starting the month, year out with unconditional acceptance and love.
Last I figured my spirit animal was an elephant.

All I looked into setting up a Run The World 2022 Challenge and now know what the credit issue @SummerSkier hit up against. When you set up a challenge you get 10 credits free. Some number of credits are used for each participant who joins based on the length of the challenge. For a 365 day challenge it requires 4 per participant. We can purchase them 20 for $20. Assuming 30 participants that would be $110 or I can set it up to require a payment to join. They have a 3.5% service fee so it would be $5.40 (USD) per participant.
Let me know what you all think... I am leaning towards the per participant but not sure if you all will want to pay to participate or not.2 -

I'm willing to contribute $$ join @shanaber.1 -
January Goal: 100 Miles
1/1: 10.02 miles
10.02/100 miles completed for January
I decided to take @SummerSkier's advice and move my long run to today. I am really glad I did. It was a beautiful morning. The sun was out. It was 58° at the start and 66°F at the end. It was a little warm towards the end but overall a very comfortable temperature and my favorite running weather. The cold front has started moving in and it is now 39°F and the 18 mph winds are making it feel like 30°. It is expected to be in 20's tomorrow. I was really glad I got my first 10 mile run of the year done when it was so nice out.
@shanaber I would be willing to pay to participate in the Run the World challenge.
Welcome back @faebert and @Eleanorhawkins!

I still have 15 credits from running the Pastor Vincent memorial - there’s no way to donate them to another person as far as I know but I believe it’s possible to form an “organization” of more than one person in charge so that credits are shared, if that would be helpful. Plus it might be a good idea to have multiple organizers in case someone goes AWOL.5 -
WOOHOO @kgirlhart now tomorrow you can take your easy day while the winds howl and the temps are frigid. I will probably go out in it just because it's such a change....
I am in for the RUn the world also - that's nothing to break the bank .
Rhedd I meant to comment on your heart issues. When they did the echo did they do a stress echo or just normal one? I think my MVP did not show up until I did a stress echo in 2012 or so. Ablation sounds a bit over the top for just starting to get the diagnosis figured out... Also, since it's something new it seems like more investigation is warranted to figure the cause.3 -
@eleanorhawkins Nice job getting out there and getting it done.
@Tramboman Thanks. Nice running today.
@SummerSkier Some days, the runs are just harder. Sometimes when I run by perceived effort, I feel I'm pushing it, when my pace is really slow. I think I was working hard and it was just one of those days - maybe not enough sleep, poor hydration or nutrition, etc. I try to base my effort on my HR, if I choose to do it on any given day. There are days when I can't keep my HR down, even when walking. I guess I'm agreeing with you that perceived effort can be way off of where you think you are.
@marisap2010 Great running. Your pups are adorable. I love Bassett Hounds.
Welcome @Steph_135 .
Nice run @Scott6255 . Glad your shins quit hurting during the run. Zoey is adorable. I love the brindle color.
@WhatMeRunning Marley is adorable. The crow is majestic. I hope you can figure out what to do with your foot and that it gets better sooner rather than later.
Love all of your animals @swenson19d .
Interesting video @shanaber . I don't know that I have ever been in good enough shape to do that. I think by the third or 4th lap, my effort would feel a lot harder, even if I was keeping up the same slow pace. LOL I would be willing to pay to participate in the RTW challenge too.
Nice run to start the year @kgirlhart ! The front is supposed to blow through here tomorrow night.
My mom and I joined some of our neighbor's at one of their houses for a pot luck New Year's lunch with the traditional New Year's Day food, plus a lot of other food on top of that. I ate way too much, but it was all good, even the black eyed peas.
After I got home, I went out for a run. The temperature was 72°F! Crazy warm for Jan. I walked one mile total for warm up and cool down and ran 2.2 miles - thanks to @polskagirl01 putting the idea in my head to do something for 2022. It's been a long time since I ran that far....too long. I did okay, but can feel that my back wasn't real happy with the effort. It's not really painful, just a lot tighter than normal. I did do my stretches and plan to ice it tonight. I hope it will be okay in the morning.

Question for the "Keeping it Sleasy" RTY team. Do you want me to just count my running miles or is it okay to count my walking miles, as long as they are 3.5 mph or faster? Either way is fine with me.0

Last year I counted everything. I wish there was a way to not count everything on your team and still count everything as an individual. Is it ok with y'all if I count everything again this year?0 -
@swenson19d They are beautiful!
Welcome @globalhiker and @Juliexx00
Welcome back @Faebert !!
@kgirlhart The front hasn't quite hit me yet. I'm in the Hill Country this weekend and it's supposed to get well into the 20s tonight. We covered the the well today (the well house is partially built) and I hope it will be ok.
Loving seeing everyone's pets!
Here's one of my cats, Baxter. The other is harder to get a decent shot of.

Hello everyone. I’ve been silent. Just trying to get back possibly run some this month. I’m putting myself down for 10 miles run and 70 miles walk. I’m feeling no pain in my left piriformis muscle. It’s loosened up but it not as limber as on the right side. I’ve been thinking why the left hip so tight and I forget I’ve got one leg a little shorter than the other. So the left side is longer so I just think why the imbalance happened on that side. I continue to stretch both sides though. We’ll see if I can start building up to run a little. Love all the pictures of everyone’s pets.7

Very jealous of the warm weather some of you are having. -20C (-4F) here so I decided the treadmill would be safest. 6km to start the year.

@kgirlhart and @quilteryoyo - I am good with counting everything too.
@rheddmobile - I have created an organization called MFP Challenge. If you want to DM me your email address I will add you to the organization if I can. I did see something about merging organizations so if you already have one we may need to do that. They would give us enough credits for 8 participants but I am not sure what would be the best way to distribute them. It may just be easier to set it up with a payment.1 -
Jan total: 11/80 miles
1/1: 11 miles
It was warm and humid again this morning. I used my vest again and it was a lifesaver today. There just aren't enough places to refill a water bottle out here and the longer the runs get, the more of an issue that becomes.
This was the longest run I have done on the hills. I tried to keep the pace easy and it was still a hard run. Almost 1000 ft of elevation gain! Craziness coming from a place where I typically net about 10ft.
I saw several deer including a buck group with 3 bucks each about 8pt. It was hard to see them super clearly but this guy was 8 point and the others were about the same size rack.

Happy new year all!
Great to see you @faebert and @eleanorhawkins! Welcome to everyone joining for the first time or coming back after a while!
I am happy to join run the world again, willing to pay to participate.
Love seeing all the pets!

I am not setting any specific goals for the year right now. Last year my main goals were to run a HM distance once a month and to finish the 46 high peaks. I accomplished both of those. I may continue with the HM challenge. I have a few Spartan race codes I need to use so I hope to do those. I want to try outdoor rock climbing this year. But otherwise I'm just hoping to stay active and be open to possibilities.
I started the year with a 5 mile run this morning - the weather was weirdly mild and the run felt good. I don't have my new spreadsheet set up for the year yet so I'll have to get working on that. I kind of forgot how big a job that is at the start of the year, I should have worked on it over my holiday break!
Oh, and this is my girl, Stella, with her Christmas present - a buffalo horn.4 -
@katharmonic - I am going through the same thing with my spreadsheets too!
Love Stella!0 -
Thanks everyone for the warm welcome back! Treadmill this morning as I had a dodgy stomach last night and didn’t want to chance being out and about! Thankfully all seems well this morning.
Have a great day everyone x
1/1: 2.1m
2/1: 2m
Jan total: 4.1m
Jan target: 30m

@kgirlhart I'm good with counting everything too.
@julieannegannon So glad you are able to run a little now. Hopefully you'll be able to run more as time goes on. Just don't overdo.
@martaindale Nice seeing the deer on your run.
@Faebert Glad your tummy is feeling better.
Nice running everyone. I'm enjoying everyone's pet/spirit animal pictures too.
It was 72°F (22.2°C) yesterday. Now they are calling for 3 - 6 inches of heavy snow by morning with the temperatures not getting above mid 30's tomorrow. Burr! I'm supposed to work tomorrow, but may wind up being snowed in up here on my little hill. That won't break my heart.1 -
ya - it's 24 and the wind is howling today. I might have to invoke one of my running plans today which is to take a rest day! I did all the pre freeze stuff yesterday as I wasn't really totally sure it was going to get that cold after almost 80. But in the middle of the night when it was dropping fast I got up and opened cabinets under sinks and dripped water. At least we DID NOT LOSE POWER thank you Texas for that.......6

1-2 7k sleasy

I was scheduled for a 1:45 - 2 hour easy training run this morning, and I tried to get out early enough to beat the incoming storms. I ran until the sky was dark and my phone was beeping with alerts. I made it inside about 2 minutes before the bottom of the sky fell. I only ran for a little over an hour and ended up with 5.78 miles. A bit frustrating, but that line of rain only lasted about 20 minutes, so I went back out and ran until I got my total of 1hr 45min. Total of 8.59 miles.
January total: 12.64 miles
Streak days: 27
