Michele--The insurance company didn't file a claim since they only charged us $300 and our deductable is $500. I just pray the repair works and we have no more problems.
Yesterday was better mood wise and I did better on eating. Part of the problem is I still like cr**. Have cough and sore throat, yesterday the nursing supervisor heard me coughing and told me I needed tested. I explain I had one a week ago and it was negative. She said I needed one, so after work I went to our employee health nurse and was tested. Surprise it was negative.
Heather--I understand what you are saying about your friend. This funeral I am helping with tomorrow, They were getting a divorce and had filed and was to go to court March 1. He had lots of female friends and now she is the one who has to take care of everything. They have 2 sons that are adults and they are helping, but it is a mess. We both will be glad when tomorrow is over. Her biggest fear is who is going to show up at the service and try and cause problems. I am sitting at the door and screen people when they come in. Never had to do anything like this before, but if it helps as she has so much she is dealing with already.
Machka--Good Luck with the new job and great NSV with the night shirt.
Lisa--I love the obit, and lately some I have seen have been very interesting. Lots of people seem to be writing their own. One in the paper here not to long ago went on about how they did not vote for the current president and would not be sticking around to see the mess. Another went on about family and was very honest and funny. I have a book to fill out about all the final arrangements and details about what and where stuff is. DH and I have filled out the information for the obits but change it every once in awhile.
Well here is to a better day. I am off the next 3 days. Have the funeral tomorrow and Saturday have 3 great grandson's birthday parties. Sunday is church and we are ushers.
Blessings, Vicki GRAND ISLAND, NE4 -
@drkatiebug I'm sorry about your dad. Hope he heals soon and well. Yes, dealing with aging parents is really tough.
@fanncy0626 Mary, we had a similar funeral experience but opposite as some friends had a pre-planned vacation for the same time as our son-in-law's funeral. We told them to go and when they came back, we thought things were fine. After several months of them making excuses not to get together, we found out that they were telling everyone that WE WERE ANGRY that they didn't come home for the funeral. They haven't spoken to us since. Their loss.
@cityjaneLondon I don't want a funeral either!!! I've told my entire family that what I'd really like is one of those New Orleans, jazz band processions in the street and parties at the end! We shall see...
@bwcetc thanks Beth, the sad part was that there were no likes or hugs at the time either... THAT'S the part that bothered me. I checked back. I looked. If there had been, I wouldn't have said anything.
@exermom Michele FREEZE WINE?!? You let it last long enough to freeze it?!? LOL1 -
Lisa ~ I thought your obit was great and so funny.
I bit the bullet and made an ENT appointment for my allergies and hearing. Unfortunately, I cannot get in until March 3rd. My hearing has gotten notably worse lately so it's time to get help.
Everyone enjoy your day and hugs for all.

Lisa - What fun! I'm not very funny, but I am honest, so might try writing something. In the German series I mentioned people have all kinds of ways of marking their passing, Minicooper - One had a band and joyful procession, one attacked her mother's coffin, and one wanted to control the obit. Etc etc. I find people so endlessly interesting.
I didn’t even realise that you don't have to have a funeral until a female undertaker came to give a talk at our W I. You can just have the body disposed of for a reasonable sum. I would prefer the money spent on a nice dinner/party with speeches and music. I hope everyone will be joyful. I've thought of some music, including, 'Enjoy Yourself, It's Later Than You Think.'
It's different when people die young, but I have lived a fulfilled life and "je ne regrette rien."

Hello ladies!
I’ve been MIA but try to spend a few minutes every day or two catching up on your posts.
Barbie, your plan of limiting exposure and close association with other folks right now because of your husband’s health fits our lifestyle to a T.
I do my Walmart and other grocery shopping very early when the stores are least crowded and have decided to “closet shop” instead of spending time in stores looking for things.
New folks who are interested, my DH has been diagnosed with short term memory loss, probably the start of Alzheimers or similar dementia. He is also becoming quite frail, appetite waning, sagging energy as the day goes on. He refuses to go for any kind of lung CT scan or other diagnostic tests other than bloodwork, his doc is doing the best he can. DH is now on thyroid meds and folate which seem to be keeping him on an even keel mentally, such as it is. He is pretty sharp when he first gets up but by the end of the day, doesn’t do well cognitive wise or energy wise. We adjust.
I am trying hard to get at least 30 gm of protein in him per day…. I know it’s less than half of what he needs but it’s a challenge and he’s losing muscle tissue. Sigh.
Rori - I appreciate your offer and will likely DM you one of these days. Right now I'm curious Bruce lost his appetite and had major weight loss and if so, at what stage of his decline? By the way, I am so happy to see you are again involved in many projects and catching up with friends!
Anyhow, since DH has is losing weight so he is now swimming in his sweat pants. They fit me! A bit large but all the more comfortable. I ordered him some smaller ones.
Katiebug and others, remember a few years ago we had the discussion about favorite undies? I was cleaning the closet the other day and found several bags of panties and socks I’d stashed away a few years ago, to give away to the homeless shelter at some point. Anyhow, what a bonanza! They are larger than I’m wearing now, so they must have been from 10+ pounds ago. But again, more comfy!
Regarding my weight, I’m still doing my version of intermittent fasting, 12 to 16 hour fasts per day, nothing major because my BMI is perfectly normal per the Smart BMI calculator and at the top of the normal range for the NIH calculator. I have a friend who became quite ill with the crud a month ago, she lost 20 pounds and was very weak, no appetite or energy. I figure it’s better to have 20 pounds to lose at this stage of the game. Again, as long as I can still fit comfortably in my favorite pants, I’m happy.
I’ll be taking over many of the outside jobs DH used to do. So far have tackled pruning, not a big deal. I am shopping for a string trimmer I can use, something kind of heavy duty but I don’t have a lot of arm strength and have had shoulder problems. DH thinks I should find someone to hire to do it… that’s a big job in itself. So I want to try it first.
I welcome any suggestions for a battery operated one for weaklings like me.
I ran across some interesting info on the latest strain of C19 here in WA State for anyone interested:Dr. Been has video which provides a good analysis of recent data on Omicron in Washington State - you can find it on YouTube, look for Dr. Been Medical Videos. If I was 18 again I’d go to school to become an epidemiologist, I think tracking these stats is super cool and spend a lot of time reviewing this type of information.
My walking partner has buggered up her right foot, has a lot of pain top of metatarsals so is seeing the ortho doc today. Hope it’s something simple so we can at least get in a mile now and then. We call ourselves the “Walk and Talk” girls, it’s been good therapy for us these past couple years.
Hoping all that have or had the crud are doing better. There's a chance this is one is the "last hurrah" and one of these days we'll be back to sharing run of the mill cold germs and depending on Nyquil and Tylenol to get us through it. Sounds like we might be getting close. Here's hoping.
Belated Happy New Year!

Debbie how did you and your dh get connected with Charlotte Stewart and her otherworldly lapidary husband? Sorry your DH gave you such little time/notice. I cannot imagine even 10 minutes of Zumba masked.

2022: Be still and listen.
We first met Charlotte at a ComicCon thing- she was in a few sci-fi type movies, like Tremors. VERY sweet lady who likes to spend time chatting. She quilts "Beadle Bags" We found out that she lived right in Napa. I invited her to our annual gourd and craft festival that we were having at mom and dad's place. Didn't think she would do it- Didn't charge her for her booth as she donates part of her proceeds to breast cancer research as a b.c survivor. She came and was just so sweet and down to earth. Spent a lot of time chatting with her over the two days at that festival . Michael had a booth next to her, and at the next one. We went to her book signing party and stayed in touch. She was at another comiccon and invited us up to their plant sale at their place and then dh and Michael talked more about his meteorite stuff-dh wanted to buy more after really liking the pieces he bought at the one show.
Good thing that recipe is quick and I have it memorized. The hardest part is that when I was trying to make it, that was the time dh decided he needed something in the kitchen and then son and his girlfriend decided to warm up their dinner. Our kitchen is small so no room for that many in there at once. I got it done and had 10 min to chat with former hubby before going to class.
Zumba was hard but glad I didnt quit. If the manager of the place isn't there Monday, we don't have to wear our masks as long as we continue to stay 25 feet apart- that is very easy as we are in a place about the size of a basketball court I guess and only 4 of us in there.

Lanette - so happy to see you! But sad to hear of what you are dealing with. I dread getting to that stage. It is one of my secret worries, especially as DH will not make a LPA. Grrrr! I still hope he will change his mind.

Good morning ladies! Our trip to San Diego is going to be shortened to one day and an overnight. The grandkids and adult children are all coming down with covid like symptoms. They will be getting tested today to confirm. We still have all their Christmas presents since we had to miss because of our covid experience. So our plan is to drop them off on Saturday with a prepared meal. We will then spend the night at the hotel and leave in the morning.
Lisa I think that your obituary is fantastic! I love the humor! I am not having a funeral both my husband and I are going to be donating our bodies to the Mayo hospital. We are requesting only a family celebration of life.
Heather is it true that you no longer are under any covid mandates? In certain States they are doing that as well. Here in Arizona everything is voluntary.
Have a great day everyone!

Heather, I dug out our Financial and Medical Power of Attorney documents recently. I am amazed at the good job our attorney did 10 years ago, these documents are timeless. As appropriate now as they were 10 years ago. It is a relief having them, that's for sure. Our doctor has the medical one and it has guided his handling of DH's health I'm sure.
The nursing home status in some areas is iffy right now and probably will be for a while. I heard that they are having a hard time keeping staff, and they are getting picky about the patients they'll accept. Some requirements are the patients must be pleasant, short term, and pay well. They can turn away patients that don't meet their criteria. I'm not sure if this is true in my county or not.
There's no way DH could live here by himself.
But I've been investigating how we can better age in place in our home. It's one-story, but we may need a frame around the toilet for support, other equipment for example. I'm getting DH in on the discussion (in the morning when he's "fresh") and he has some good ideas. No more pooh-poohing the idea which is good.
On another note - has JanetR posted recently? She may have and I missed it. As I recall she had a lot going on with DGD killed in a traffic accident. Sending good thoughts her way.

Hi ladies.
I'm just trying out the community to see if will help me with my weight loss resolution. It was great to see this discussion and I hope to make some friends here.
I'm in Texas and we are having our first winter day today. So I'm curled up on the couch playing on the computer.
I am recovering from back surgery (hopefully last) I had in September. I just got doc approval to start walking without my walker, so I'm encouraged that I might actually start losing weight.
Happy belated New Year to everyone4 -
HEATHER Great that your SO has been such a boon to your life. I am not counting on someone like that "coming along". (or being found or whatever) if it happens great! otherwise I'll just do my best.

I think a person not in a family nor a couple seems like an extra terrestrial to people who are (understandably) focused on their families, kids, or SOs ! all the more so if living far, far away ! Not to everyone, but to many! ah, well, such is life!!!!
here's a GF cake I made. It was great!
Making a couple more this Sunday.

Stunning cake...
Lovely peppers Heather
Went over and got Homer outside the boys enjoyed it.. Homer bless him cant see a thing but still has alot of spunk..

Mary on subject of dishwashers. If you get one make sure you show tenants how to clean filters. (Ours has two) I had to clean ours today and after seeing it hand washing looks bettter and better. Our dishes were not cleaning as well as usual. Turns out should be a monthly maintenance chore. Another thing to put on the calendar. Never want to see it like that again. To spare you no picture.
A few month ago I talked about how to make sure those bills that are not automatic get paid. I now write them on my google calendar and it has helped tremenously.
Update on Nephew's wife She is still in hospital. If meds do not work she may be facing a transplant so prayers are appreciated.6 -
Lanette — It is good to see you posting again! I have missed you. My DH also has health issues. His stem from diabetes and MS. Good medicine helps.
Grab bars in the bathroom have been very helpful for him.

Lanette - So good to see you! I'm sorry your husband's issues are intensifying.
My heart goes out to everyone that is caretaking, whether spouse or parent, and those with family who are ill.
Speaking of which, Corey is still struggling with whatever it is he's got - whether it's covid or just the worst head cold in the world. He's going to work anyway, but says more than half their workers are out sick. Whatever it is, fingers crossed, I haven't picked it up so far, and I am grateful.
I've had a good day - was able to do the usual chores, laundry etc. without being exhausted, and then made a couple of tuna casseroles, which I bake and then portion into servings and freeze - Corey is not a fan, but I really like them for a quick hot lunch - they heat up in the microwave in three minutes, are reasonably good nutrition, and only a couple hundred calories. Also made a pan of blondies with white chocolate, which I'll portion up and send with him to work tomorrow for whoever wants them.
He'll be home in about an hour, so I need to get some bacon going for breakfast tacos for dinner... That's the plan anyway, we'll see what he's in the mood for when he gets here.
Later y'all,
Love,
Lisa in AR4 -
Catching up on reading while sitting with Daddy. He is much improved (a relative statement at almost 93).
Machka, congrats on the NSV. My absolute favorite pjs are red flannel with little black dogs on them. My husband bought them along with a matching robe back when I was much heavier. They were too small. I actually need at least one size down now, but I love them too much to discard them. They are so comfy and the roominess reminds me of how far I’ve come.
Regarding dishwashers. I find it interesting that Bosch and hard water aren’t supposed to be good. My Bosch is the only dishwasher I’ve had that seems to not be affected by my hard water. We went through one about every 4 or 5 years before we installed this Bosch. I love it and their customer service has been phenomenal. No dishwasher would be a deal breaker for me. When this one breaks, I’ll have a new one ordered before the day is done. Now if my stove breaks, that can wait a while. Lol.
Lanette, I do remember the favorite panties conversation. Minicooper, that was before your time but an example of a seemingly random comment that takes a life of its own in the conversations. I know that I sometimes skim so quickly that I miss important things I should have noticed. Then someone will comment on it and I’ll read that. Then I’m asking myself what all I’ve missed. Or say why are we talking about panties or dishwashers or whatever.3 -
I always set my health & wellness goals in January which is my birthday month. I just turned 67.
My goals this year are to:
(1) Lose twenty pounds I’ve gained during Covid (148 to 128).
(2) Walk, cycle, swim or row a total of 2,022 miles which is a nice round number celebrating the year.
(3) Complete my first 100 mile cycling ride.
(4) Commit to having meaningful conversations that reconnect with at least 24 people over the years that I’ve lost contact with.
Here’s to a healthy 2022!

(((Rita))) Hugs, just in case you need a little more support and encouragement.
Rebecca – Athena is a charmer!!!
Machka - If your’re happy and you know it stay in bed… Brilliant!
Fanncy aka Mary from AZ – We use our dishwasher daily. We live in our own home. If I rented an apartment I would expect a built-in dishwasher.
Barbara – If your sister is in Idaho, the hospital emergency room I visited in Boise many years ago was excellent. I wonder why the wait there now is so long. March seems like a long time to wait. I hope covid cases aren't severe. Sending good thoughts her way.
SophieRosieMom AKA Lanette – I am delighted to see you posting here again.
Margaret – Sending prayers for your Nephew’s Wife.
Brandy from Hedgesville, WVA – Welcome!
I had a chat with a woman who is a dog breeder of Keeshonds. She was not encouraging. I plan to keep looking for the right pup for us.

Crackers-I can’t explain the mystery. I believe the last time I bought some was before Christmas at Meijers. I could not believe they only had like two brands and took up very little shelf space-very strange the things that are in short supply right now.
Terri-love the poem. Thank you so much for sharing with us.
Lisa-great obituary!
Vicki-that does sound like a very awkward funeral. I do hope no one shows up and causes trouble.
Lanette-I have a ryobi edger that is battery operated-easy to use. Sorry for you husband’s issues.
Mary-I was getting out to Az twice a year before covid. Also DIL was a stay at home parent. Now with both of them working I will plan trips in when they can have a bit of off time (I also respect that they would want some of their limited time off for just them). Hope to at least be back out at Thanksgiving/Christmas time.
Heather-peppers do look good. My husband always liked them (and made them). Haven’t had them since he dies.
Julie-I understand what you mean about some not understanding we singles. GF cake looks good-how did you get the leaves on it?
Lisa-regarding Corey’s illness-we tend to forget there are other things going around. A friends grandson has a case of the flu that is pretty brutal-it is also going around the school.
Trip to Columbus went well. CT looked the same. Won't have another one a year unless 6 month blood work looks bad. Insurance will no longer cover Synthroid brand name. I have been on that for nearly 26 years for suppression therapy for thyroid cancer. Endo says that the thinking on that has changed over the years. I prefer not to pay the out of pocket for it if not necessary. I have better than 90 day supply from last prescription. I will contact them for refill in a couple of months. Going to try the generic. He said if I have any problem with it he can then petition insurance.
Need to go tend to a few work emails.
Take care all,
Ginny in Ohio

When we get back to Hawaii, we are going to take dh's aunt's step grand daughter and her family out to eat instead of having a service for his aunt. She didn't want any kind of service plus, really, there is no one else left except us and her step grand daughter. We always said we would have her favorite meal- prime rib, mashed potatoes, mixed veggies, a glass of white zin, and a piece of cream pie. That is what she had every time we took her out each Sunday. Even at over 90yrs old, almost always had the same thing. Occasionally she would have pasta but not often.
As for people not going to a service, the way worked it out for relatives that couldn't come to dad's, we told them to just come when they could- This was better for mom- she had more one on one time when my cousins got here plus she had something to look forward to a few months later. My cousins came and spent a week with her and I got more cousins together for a mini reunion. That meant so much to mom and my aunt(dad's sister- the last surviving sibling of the ten kids). We had a great time and want to do it again soon- These cousins came down from Seattle and from Arizona)

Rebecca every NSV is to be celebrated. ConVERY grats! Your story of your fall and no neighbors coming to check on you reminds me of the first time I broke my wrist. My BFF and I were in Yosemite, trying to learn how to cross country ski. She was with the rest of the class, sitting up the hill, eating their lunches, watching me struggle to get back up on my feet. Finally someone, (NOT my BFF) came down and said “Can I help you?” I said “Yes! Get these D@M# things off me!!! I sat in the car and read while BFF finished the afternoon lesson, then finally got her to take me to the valley clinc. Yup. Busted good. And it was my 30th birthday. Poor BFF never forgave herself.
