I love this thread! 5'3", 140lbs right now, and started MFP with my husband 3 weeks ago. I felt my best two years ago at 125, so that's my goal for now. 15lbs doesn't sound like a lot, but you all know it makes a big difference on a small frame. I haven't been happy watching my weight creep up, so I am taking control of it now instead of later when it'll only be harder.
One of the toughest things I've found so far is that if I tell a friend that I'm trying to lose a bit of weight, they react either dismissively or defensively. For example, I told a close friend that I'm watching my food intake and I got a gym membership and she said "But why? You're already in such good shape", as if I should wait until my weight is all the way out of control before I work on it...? So I find myself framing my goals as "maintenance" instead of "improvement" to make others more comfortable.
It's encouraging to see the success stories here - whether it's 10 lbs lost or 110, you women are amazing16 -

I'm 5'1" and 71.
Short, female, and over 70: three strikes against me and my metabolism.
Started MFP in 2010, I think. Didn't log consistently.
Got more serious in 2017. Bought a Fitbit and started regular aerobic exercise, 30 minutes 6 or 7 days a week. You'd think that would do it, but I only went up and down the same five pounds. Ate better and drank more water, but still too many calories. (For me. Everyone is different. I have a very slow metabolism, unfortunately.)
In September 2020 I joined Noom and finally, very slowly, lost 33 pounds by May 2021.
I lost another 9 pounds and I've been successfully maintaining between 116-118 since then. I don't do aerobics anymore because it hurts my knees. I've switched to doing Barre, yoga, and weights. I think the weights routine helped improve my metabolism. For the first time in my life I have visible arm muscles. I have mobility problems now, too, so I can't walk as much as I used to, and I now use a walker. But I exercise almost every day, log calories with MFP, weigh myself every day.
In 2010 I weighed about 160. Size 14 jeans.
September 2020: 148. Size 12 jeans.
May 2021: 125. Size 10 jeans.
Current weight 116.2. I had to buy size 8 jeans in December because the 10s didn't stay up without the belt. I really should get a couple of extra holes on my new, smaller designer belt I bought myself for a birthday present!

Well girls, I am back at it. 5’1 143 with a goal of 115. I have started several times before and I ended up quitting. Start 2021 at 155 and got down to 138, went on vacation and decided to eat as much of whatever because…vacation! Bad idea…I just could not seem to get it back together and gained nearly all of it back. I got my act together before thanksgiving and was moderate over the holidays. This year I started at 148 and I’m down to 143.
My 40th bday is in July and I am determined to stick with it this time and be fabulous for my 40th! I probably haven’t felt sexy in a swimsuit in 20yrs but this is my year!! I’m tracking honestly every single day, not going over calories, and doing my DDPYoga!13 -
Well, I’ve been back at it for exactly a month and I’m down 7lbs! I’ve been weighing in between 140-141 the last few days. I’ll be so excited to get back to 138.6 which is the lowest I got to last year. I’ve been eating 1000-1200 and doing either DDPYoga or riding my exercise bike for 30-45min each day. It feels really good to make progress toward my goals! How are y’all doing?

@200Karen DDPYoga is a strength building yoga. I saw videos of testimonials on YouTube and it got me curious. I use an app but there are also dvds if you prefer that route. I can see and feel my body changing with the muscles I’m building. I have developed definite biceps that have a beautiful line when I flex and in my tummy it’s not just pillsbury dough boy anymore but I can feel some hard abs underneath the fluff LOL.
I eat pretty clean. Lots and lots of veggies and fruit and some lean meat and a little gluten free toast most mornings (gf because I have to, not because it’s healthier or better;) And I haven’t had a soda in almost a month(Diet Pepsi was my drink of choice and almost all I ever drank aside from coffee)2 -
Ok, a little update, I’m pretty sure I was t eating enough calories. I was eating a little less than 1000 per day and still getting a little low intensity exercise each day. My job is a hairdresser so I’m on my feet a lot but it’s not particularly active so I figured I’m sedentary.
I felt fine doing this the first month I was at it but all of the sudden got very tired several days in a row and ended up losing my *kitten* and going on a little binge where I felt very out of control. After this happened I was told by a couple ppl in a group I’m in that I’m not eating enough and I should be eating over my BMR on non-active days and eating into exercise calories on active days. This scares me because I feel like it’s a lot of food and I want to lose as quickly as possible, but I don’t want to down regulate my metabolism or lose my hair or be tired all the time so I figured I’ll try it.
So the last few days I’ve been eating closer to 1300-1400 calories. I made my diary public…I had made it private because I didn’t want anyone to see how low my cals were and scold me. I realize now that I was probably in the beginning stages of disordered eating/thinking. So, feel free to check out my diary and hold me accountable. I wish I had someone IRL to do this with but I don’t and my husband is getting sick of me talking about it all the time LOL
I’m up a couple lbs on the scale but my clothes really aren’t fitting different. I figure it’ll take a minute for my body to get used to having 13-1590 when for a month ish I was feeding it 8-900 most days. I want to be able to eat a decent amount of food once I get to maintenance so if this is something I need to do and see a little increase before I lose again so be it.
I’m determined for this to be permanent this time. I need to learn to make changes I can live with and I desperately want to lose the weight but not at the expense of my health. So if you’ve made it this far I thank you and hope we can all be there for each other (virtually) and hold each other accountable and be each other’s cheerleaders!8 -

Hi everyone, I'm 59.5 and barely 5' - started 2022 at 140 lbs (most I've ever weighed - thanx pandemic) - currently weigh 127. Want to weigh 110 by my 60th birthday in July. Tracking daily food/calorie consumption - trying not to eat more than 100 cals over my recommended number of calories (1260 currently) - 2 hours of water aerobics weekly, 30 minutes of walking/hiking/skiing on other days. Will be adding more strength-building activities this spring. Feels good to have been successful so far!10

In 2017, I moved "across town" to take a new job, and decided it was time to make healthy changes in my life. I had been in an unhealthy relationship, and was eating and drinking way too much. I weighed nearly 170, the most I'd ever weighed (I'm 5'2"). The relationship ended when I moved, and once I was settled in my new place, I joined a gym, and started going 6 days a week (35-45 minutes cardio, and 15-20 minutes weight training). The progress was slow, but after a year and a half I'd gotten down to around 142. I felt amazing! All my clothes fit comfortably, I felt lean, and like my body could do anything I wanted it to. Fast forward to the pandemic - and a broken foot in October last year - and now I'm back up to 160. It's so discouraging. I'm in a new, healthy relationship, but I know I eat and drink more that I had in my "lean" days because we both love to either order in or go somewhere where we can eat outside. I struggle with depression, and I know, *logically*, that going to the gym will help, not just because it helps my brain chemistry, but because feeling fit again will lift my spirits (I know, I know, that's not supposed to matter). But I still can't seem to get out of bed in the morning to go. After work, I'm so tired that all I want to do is go home and eat dinner. Has anyone else struggled with this kind of situation? Any suggestions? Thank you for this thread - you're all super inspiring!4

It's motivating to see these posts! I think I've actually been living in shame and feeling pretty isolated. I'm 5'1.5" and have been hovering between 178 and 183lbs for the last couple of years. I got sick about 5 years ago and was an athlete at that point with little body fat and weighing between 110 and 115. It's been super hard to feel like I'm living in such a different body and life. I'm also 50 years old now, so I'm coming to terms with maybe never getting back to my former fitness and activity level, but I can't resign myself to being where I am now or continuing to gain weight and feel worse over time. I see that a lot of the ladies who have lost a lot of lbs here are younger, but I'm rooting for all of us and appreciate the struggles of us shorties! Thanks for all the shares~9

@lilleyorama I have lost and regained as well and know that feeling of defeat:( You should be proud of yourself, tho, because here you are with the desire to be the best version of you!! Weight loss is mostly due to the calories in, so it’s ok if this is a season you feel you can’t fit workouts. Focus on tracking everything you eat and you should start seeing that weight come back off;)
@LeroyBunnycake i can’t wait to be 127!! I hit a new low for 2022 this morning at 140.0!! Pretty pumped to be close to the 130s!! My 40th bday is July 6th!
@katejpedersen i am right in the middle agewise at 139. I think with some tweaks we can all lose large amounts of weight. It mostly comes down to how much we eat. I just heard a weight loss scientist say on a video that working out is not very helpful in getting weight off but seems to be very helpful in maintaining one’s lower weight. I thought that was interesting. You may not get back to the shape of your younger athletic body but you can be the absolute best version of the 50 yr old you;) That’s what we are all aiming for…being the best us we can be right now!!4 -
I’ve been eating at least 1300 cals per day and more sometimes if I exercise. It was annoying to be up 2-3lbs for over a week but I finally had a loss this morning and hit my low for 2022 of 140.0!!! I am so close to being in the 130s. I got down to 138.8 last year before losing it on vacation and not getting back on track so my first goal this year was to get back to 138. I am SOOO close:)
On another note, my boys wanted to go to altitude trampoline park yesterday and I decided to jump and play with them. I had so much fun! I was like a kid again flipping and playing for an hour and a half. It was so exhausting but exhilarating! Today I was reminded that I’m almost 40 and have been inactive most of my adult life because I am so incredibly sore XP Worth it, tho, as we had a blast!5 -
Looking to find a new support network, as friends and family aren’t really supportive in the right way or at least in the way I want them to be, I mention going on a diet and all I get as a response is why you look fine.
Currently 139lbs, 5ft 3 and 4 months postpartum want to get down to 120-126lbs before the end of the summer ideally but realise this may be slightly ambitious.

Hi @AlexEllaK Congratulations on your new baby! First one? Finding balance after babies takes some time so give yourself grace;) Mine are now 10 & 12 but it took time to feel like I found my new normal:)
I don’t have any friends IRL either (besides my mom) to discuss my weight loss journey. It seems if you bring it up with any women they feel bad about themselves and start to make excuses for why they aren’t exercising or losing weight. That is not my intention at all so I stopped talking about it with friends and my husband listens but I can see his eyes glaze over LOL4 -
@AlexEllaK Hi & congrats on your new baby! I try not to use the word 'diet' for the reason you mentioned - instead I say I'm making different food choices, or trying to eat healthier, or wanting to feel more healthy overall. People mean well when they say, "you look fine" - but it's not always how we look but how we feel in our own skin.
I second the suggestion that you try to be gentle with yourself - your body has gone through a major transition and needs to recover. And don't use celebrity moms as an example of how one's body should look 4 months after giving birth - we would all look like a million bucks if we had personal trainers, personal chefs, and a full-time nanny on our payroll!4 -

It’s baby number two and to be honest after my first 3 years ago I never got back in to shape so there are some definite stubborn pounds to work through that have been hanging around 😂
I completely u set stand what you mean about your husbands eyes glazing over mine is the same 😚
@LeroyBunnycake what you said about comparing yourself to Celebs is what I’m so bad for, Instagram is a killer for me. In my head I know it’s not realistic and probably edited as well but I still do it (silly really)

Hi, I am 5ft.25in... got to grab that quarter in.lol... I am 63 and currently 114.2. I was formerly 139... slow weight loss over the years... I was 92 lbs at 42 , menopause hit and went up... and I quit smoking.
I know I don't want to get to 92lbs. I have a lot more muscle now... I work retail so I am on my feet and some times throw a lot of freight.. If i cashier there is a lot of beer going threw the line... that stuff is heavy. I recently lost 8 lbs , due to mostly stress and cutting a few calories... Hubby had a terrible diagnosis: multiple cancers.. and my dad passed away in January.. the last 6 months was rough
Middle of my range is 112.. presently I am trying to maintain 114.6 -
@AlexEllaK i had my kids two years apart and understand the weight struggles! Check out Instagram_vs_reality on IG and Stephanie Lange on YT. These really helped me realize that it’s ALL fake and they edit everything…no one really looks like they do on IG. These channels were really eye opening. I’ve heard that comparison is the thief of joy…it’s so true and something I’ve dealt with a ton in my life. Let’s try to focus on doing something everyday to be the best version of ourselves and find things to be thankful for. Even the parts we don’t love serve beautiful purposes in our lives… E.g. I’m thankful that my tummy was able to carry two beautiful boys to term. I’m thankful I was able to feed them with my breasts. I’m thankful my legs carry me around and are strong and capable. I’m thankful for my arms that are able to hug my loved ones.5

I still have 26lbs to go but this is a comparison of my highest weight 161lbs (not including pregnancies) in 2020 to exactly 20lbs down 141lbs. Not quite halfway but it helps to celebrate on the way to the big goal🙂29 -

@200Karen never thought of freezing squash to use in a smoothie... how do u like it and how do u make it? the smoothie?
I had half a ruben sandwich for supper and I gained 2 lbs... all that salt.. it will take a couple days for that (water) to disappear2 -
Sore muscles from Wednesday’s trampoline adventure are finally easing so I did a 30min ride on my exercise bike. I skipped exercise th and Fri because I was so stinkin sore! Lol
Went to a bday party for one of my boy’s friends and didn’t feel self conscious at all while I was there! That’s such a nice feeling…so often I would be wondering if anyone notices my weight gain, tugging at my shirt so it didn’t hug my fat too closely and show my bulges, etc. I just felt…confident and that’s such a relief☺️
Weigh in for a weekly group I’m in is tomorrow. I’ve been down on the scale this week and I hope it shows tomorrow since I’ve been up the past two weeks since raising my calories. I’ll update after weigh in↘️🤞🏻7 -
