Work and commute also means I gotta get it in early. I don't like it. I'd rather sleep but π€·πΌββοΈ I feel like when I run before coffee my pace suffers.
I feel you! If I had my druthers, I would prefer to run around 9-10 am, after breakfast. But, work and weather keeps me early. Once the sun comes up, it is just painful. I also get up 45 mins or so before I run so I can get a touch of caffeine. Otherwise, I will get a headache on my run as my body realizes it never got its morning caffeine bump. I have shifted to verb bars, which are small 90 cal bars with an espresso worth of caffeine in them. Then I can also have some water. Seems to take me less time to get out the door and my stomach likes a touch of food before I run.
I usually have just enough time to eat a honey stinger waffle, take a few sips, change and head out the door. I always try to opt for more sleep πππ2 -

Started a Garmin coach programme again as I like the little nudge to go out and run. Today I took it very slow as I really wanted to reach the 5km. And I did.
Realized on Monday that it's really time to replace my running shoes. I started using these in 2016 (don't judge) and yeah, the sole isn't quite good anymore. I still had another pair of the same from the same time in my wardrobe. Did one longer run with them back then and ended up with a huge blister on my heal that got infected. I can't see what's wrong with that one shoe, but I'm trying to break them in slowly, with little walks to the supermarket. Maybe i can still use them. I hope as I can't wear most shoes due to dodgy feet.5 -
@yirara Congratulations on making 5K this morning! Shoes are so individual. I hope you can find what works best for you.

43.05/70 miles
Yesterday I did a 25 minutes Foundation Run on the driveway. I went out instead of the treadmill because I wanted an excuse to be slow. LOL Turned out it was faster than the day before and a little easier. I wanted to keep my HR below 143 bpm, but that wasn't going to happen - one of those days, but I did manage to keep it under 153 bpm, which is my backup easy pace.
Today, after a dentist appointment, I went out for my scheduled run - Speed Play. Today was 10 min easy, 5 x (1 min Zone 5/2 min zone 1), 5 minutes easy. I ran the Zone 5 runs as fast as I thought I could maintain for a minute. I probably could have ran a little bit faster. They were mostly between 10:40 and 9:35 min/mile pace. The last one I ran all out and managed between 9:15 and 8:32 min/mile pace for that one minute. I ran a total of 2.30 miles in 31:07 minutes and walked 0.70 miles total for warm up and cool down. I rested for a little less than an hour and then went down to help mow mom's lawn. I rode their little riding mower, mom pushed all she could, and William, neighbor, did the weed eating. We took a break and then I finished the push mowing and he finished the riding mower. The push mowing I did took 23:57 minutes and is included in the total. I didn't count the riding mower, since I was riding. Busy day though and I'm opening at daycare in the morning - up at 4:30 to get to work by 6:30. I hope I can get to bed a little bit earlier tonight.

Thanks for the birthday wishes @7Lenny7! It is good to have you back. I'm glad Kody is well.
Today's run was pretty good. It was warm and windy again and I ran my usual 5 mile run. I have never been a morning person, but a few years ago I started getting up early to run before it gets too hot. I would rather run about 7 am, but I need to get out by 5:30 or so if I want to have time before work. It takes me at least 45 minutes to wake up, drink a cup of coffee and get my contacts in and get dressed so I usually get up around 4:15 - 4:30. I do like getting my run in first thing, but if you had told me 10 years ago that I would wake up at 4:30 so I could run I would never have believed that.
Tomorrow is a rest day and then on Saturday I am running a local 10K. It is one I ran last year. I hope I run well, but it will be my first race since I had covid and I still don't quite have the stamina I had last year. Plus the forecast is calling for 18 mph winds. π So we will see. But it should be fun and it raises money for a local charity that helps abused kids.

@kgirlhart I'm with you on not being able to get up and out the door. I, too, have to take time to wake up, have a cup of coffee, go "potty," and then get dressed and out the door. I might be more tempted to get up early if there was a good place to run at that time of day, but I don't think I would want to run on the treadmill and outside on my road just doesn't feel like an option. If I can get out the door by 7 or so during the summer, I'm okay. That I can do. Good luck with your 10K tomorrow. Racing in those winds won't be fun, but hope you can enjoy the experience.1

REST DAY!! I need this so bad! I have a massage booked after work and then happy hour with a couple of friends. I was supposed to go climbing last night but my stomach was grumbling and I really didn't want to have issues 30ft in the air! So, I stayed home and that was nice too.4

Enjoy your rest day and massage @martaindale!
Good luck on your 10K @kgirlhart.
8 miles this morning. Was 100% humidity and very warm. Legs felt heavy, mind did too. Just a meh run.

@shanaber @Mari33a @Scott6255 @quilteryoyo @Teresa502 @kgirlhart thanks for the welcome!
8 miles of beautiful trail for me yesterday, on a perfect 55F and sunny day which gets to me to 63/90 miles for the month. I got a bit red on my neck. I guess it's time to think about sunscreen now.
The run was in a state park near the lake where we keep our boat. You can see the lake in some of the photos below. Being early on a Thursday, there wasn't a lot of people out there. The leaves haven't started coming out yet so everything was rather brown but it was still a beautiful run.
I started the run with a hit of pain and swelling but a mile in the pain had was gone. At 6 miles in I could feel just a bit of swelling in my right foot (it weird but my feet seem to pass the swelling back and forth...rarely are they both affected at the same time) but no pain and I had 2 miles left to get back to my truck, so I kept going. They currently feel pretty good so I'll call it a win. Rest/core day today then back to the trails tomorrow.
After the run I went to check on our boat and get the shrink wrap off. They didn't have power or water available yet so I couldn't wash and wax the hull or paint the bottom so I headed home earlier than planned, but it did give me time to stop at a dive bar I've always wanted to check out, and enjoy a beer and meatloaf sandwich.7 -
@Scott6255 I looked up what the intercostal muscle is and I don't think the yoga posses that helped my back (lower back) would help for that. 100% humidity sounds awful. I'm not looking forward to that part of summer.
@quilteryoyo at the Sandlot Marathon there were only 15 in the full marathon and 18 in the half. There were four full field available and three were being used so the course congestion wasn't bad at all.
@kgirlhart have a great race Saturday!
@martaindale you really know how to have a good rest day!4 -

@7lenny7 That area is beautiful! I love the big rock formations or as my kid would call it, terrain.
@AlphaHowls Run like that feel so great! Love when everything falls into place.1 -

Yes, I'm still here!
Non-running mostly bad newsBusy with guests and everything. The welfare office says they have a place for them near the school. But it seems to be a common theme that you shouldn't count on a government office/agency to do anything in a timely fashion... so we've got a garage full of free furniture we've collected from various people, and no word on when the place will be available. Then we had a medical issue with one of the kids and had to deal with doctors and hospital and I'm partly glad they are required to treat Ukrainians (free of charge), but am only partly happy with the level of care. Ehh, it could be worse.
Our city is officially in mourning following a horrible mining accident. I'm not directly connected to anyone there, except through friends of aquaintances, but it's been awful seeing the updates, and today's "closure" wasn't good either (too dangerous for rescue workers, they had to seal off that section with 7 people still "missing" inside).
Ukraine is obviously heavy on my mind as well. No words though.
I got to go on a nice hike on Monday with a group from Polar Bear club. Went up the big mountain from my February trip, but from another (easier) side with different views along the way. It was great!
I'm trying to stay as close as possible to my training plan, and added in a once-a-week bike ride to/from the pool to balance things out with running. The bike ride is literally "uphill both ways" - one big hill on the way there, and long gradual uphill for most of the return trip. So needless to say, my legs felt like rubber today π10 -
@7lenny7 So good to see you and Cody!
Two runs since last check in, both at WC Johnson. Skipped Easterβs run due to time constraints.
So, Tuesday was perfect easy run weather, a little chilly for walking and that temperature where you donβt even notice the temperature while running. 5 miles running and a couple walking. It had been cold the night before and there were zero frogs, which was really sort of eerie! Usually the wetlands trail is deafening at this time of year.
Thursday, for some reason was physically stressed and noticed my heart rate was high setting out. And it stayed about ten beats higher than expected the whole run. Otherwise felt fineβ¦ 4 miles just at dusk, plus three walking. It was HOT, 84 degrees and humid. Muddy! Day before we had flood warnings, so I wasnβt sure the bridge would be above water but it was, just barely, but there were lots of ankle deep trails. Unlike last time we had plenty of frogs. Also deer, one deer probably a yearling male because he stood in the trail and shook his head at us. We were like, are we playing chicken here? You gonna leave or are we going to have to turn around? But at the last minute he decided to let us pass.
My Strava was being nutso and decided to record way more distance. So I need to reset all my PRs. No, we did not run almost ten miles at 9:42 pace. It was four miles at more like 12 something and another 3ish walking. Strava thinks I ran a half mile in 3:01 which, just no.7 -
@martaindale I'm sure your friends are glad you stayed home and didn't have issues 30 feet in the air. That would be bad on sooooo many levels. Enjoy happy hour!
@Scott6255 Sometimes those are the hardest runs. You did great.
Nice place to run @7lenny7 . Glad your feet were okay and that they don't both swell at the same time. At least you have one good one at all times. Sounds like you enjoyed the bar. I hope you have a great run tomorrow too. The sandlot marathon logistics makes sense.
Glad you had a great outdoor run @AlphaHowls !
Congratulations @Mari33a ! Enjoy the reception!
@polskagirl01 I hope everything works out to get permanent residency for your guests soon. All of that has to be stressful. Glad you went on your hike. The view is fantastic!
Nice running @rheddmobile . I'm glad your heart isn't going into AFib again. Sometimes my HR is about 10 bpm higher than other times too, for no reason I can think of. I just go with it and adjust my goals. Funny about the deer. I'm glad he decided to let you pass. I've had a female paw and snort at me. I didn't see it, but figure there was a fawn close by she wanted me away from. Wonder what happened in Strava? Those paces would be great to actually have!

44.05/70 miles
I did get up early in order to be at work at 6:30 this morning. I worked until 9:45, changed clothes, and went to play doubles tennis. We didn't talk as much, but I don't feel like I got a lot of exercise anyway. But, it was fun and that is the point for me and tennis. I went back to work until 4:30, then stopped at mom's on the way home. It was almost 5:30 when I got home. I was tired and hungry and my knee was acting up at daycare this afternoon (hurt if I stepped wrong) so I opted for a mile walk on the driveway rather than any running today. The plan said today could be cross training - tennis and walking for the win!6 -
Thanks @quilteryoyo, @teresa502, @scott6255 and @7lenny7. I am hoping the wind dies down some before morning. It is really howling out there right now.
3 -
Im about to head out and yes what is up with all the wind this year? It seems a lot worse all over then past years. Have a great race @kgirlhart At least it's not RAINING also. LOL.
I think I set my goal for 125 this month and am currently at 99.67 miles. It's been a rough month running wise even tho it started really well with even a 10 miler but things seem to be getting better slowly. I still can't lie flat or even attempt a sit up but I can push the pace a little and if I don't cough everything stays fairly calm.
As far as mornings. When I was a lot younger I could get up get dressed and get out the door to run but one year I started running Saturdays wth a group of women around White Rock Lake in Dallas and found that having a good cup of coffee and being awake about an hour was actually a lot better so that is my new approach since then.
@quilteryoyo you definitely got a check mark for cross training yesterday and you DID get a walk in also. I haven't touched the racket in a few weeks since I had the injury but I need to do something for my upper body strength. I don't want to be one of those runners with an upper body of pudge. (no muscle).
@polskagirl01 I have a lot of business with our factory in Poland and it is really scary there also I know. It is amazing what you are doing to help. Bless you!2 -
@SummerSkier You are doing great considering your injury this month. I do enjoy tennis and never feel like I am getting much exercise, but I guess it's just because it is a different form and I'm distracted by conversation.1

I do know Poles gave been lining up to get their passports! Our emergency papers & packing list are already in one place, in case we have to evacuate. Hopefully we won't need it.
You guys. We woke up to find out the mine on the OTHER side of us had an accident. Ten workers there are "missing" now, too. It's like the ground below us is angry. My 19+km run today was more like a prayer with each step, for whatever was happening below me. Fortunately, everyone we know who works there is currently safe.7 -
Oh @polskagirl01 I think I speak for most of us here....I just can't imagine the hell you, your family, and your countrymen are going through! Praying for you all π6

Race Report:
I managed to get up and get going pretty good thus morning. The race was in a neighboring town about 30 miles away and started at 7:45 so I didn't have to get up too early, but earlier than usual on a Saturday. I was worried about the weather. The temperature was ok at between 68Β°F and 60Β°F but we were still having 20 mph winds.
There was a small group for the 10K. They also had a 5K and a 1K for the kids. The 10K started first. I started well and was keeping up with a lady who I thought was in my age group. We were neck and neck for about 3.5 miles, but then she pulled ahead of me and I just couldn't catch her. But there was nobody coming up behind me so I just held my pace. My only real goal was to run it in under an hour Bd to not have to stop any. I did end up finishing in 57:47 and was 2nd in my age group.. I was the 5th female finisher and ran the whole way, so I felt really good about the race. The wind was really difficult and there were a couple of stretches where we were running into it. It was so windy I lost the rubberband from my hair. Luckily I had clipped my hat on. I didn't get a PR, but Srrava said this was my 2nd best 10K. And I felt really good about the race. It was kind of neat because they ran the 1K for the kids after the 10K and 5K finished so we got to watch. There were some really fast little kids and some really little ones too. They all got medals. The 5K and 10K only give medals to the top 3 in each AG. I signed up late so I didn't get my size shirt and the only extras they had were size L, but that's OK. The bags were nice.
It is supposed to rain all day tomorrow so I will take it as a rest day. I included the .29 mile warm-up that I did because I think I will be really close to my goal this month so I am counting all of my running. π

That's so sad @polskagirl01 . I'm glad everyone you know is okay and pray they can find those who are missing and they are safe. Sounds like the run was just what you needed.
Great race @kgirlhart ! Congratulations on your age group placement and meeting your goals of running the entire way and finishing in under an hour! You don't even look hot or tired in the pictures! I'd be all red faced with sweat dripping. LOL

I got out about 11 for my run today. I probably should have gotten out a little earlier since it was getting hot by the time I finished (77Β°F). The plan called for 35 minutes easy pace. I went a bit longer in order to get 3.00 miles. My HR cooperated and stayed at 143 or below, mostly below. The rest of my body did not think it was an easy run though. My legs didn't want to move and breathing was a little difficult. That was probably due to pollen. I had to stop and walk a couple of times that I normally wouldn't, but they were short walks. Anything to get it done. I was actually proud of my pace today, with the lower HR. Overall, the average was 13:06 min/mile. I'll take that.
I think all of the dogs in the neighborhood were out today. I didn't see the sheep dog, so was going to run past his field. Well, she saw me and the barking began. At least she isn't quite as intense as she was when she was little and I don't think she can escape the fence now. Still, I turned around before I meant to to avoid her. Then, near another turn around point a dog that I know came running from her house, barking at me. We used to be friends, but she just hasn't liked me since she had a litter of pups a few years back. It was so weird. Anyway, again, I turned around a bit before I intended to and had to keep stopping to run her back to her house. Then, during my cool down walk a different neighbor's two boxers came running into the road at me. I have encountered them before, so know they are friendly, but they are big and don't understand personal space. The one ran right into my leg with his nose. The owner yelled and they went back in their yard. I assured her it was okay, that I knew they were friendly. And, finally, one of the dogs at the top of my hill, who is tied out, barked at me. He hasn't done that in a long time. I just thought it was interesting that I had all of the encounters today when some days I see/hear none of them.3 -
@polskagirl01 - I can't believe there is another mining accident. That is so sad and it is so terrible for the families of those still missing in the section that had to be closed off.
I am sure everyone there has to be so worried that the war may expand into Poland. I certainly hope it doesn't and you don't have to evacuate!
I am sure your guests are so grateful for all your support and help and I am sure it is hard for them and all of the Ukrainians who are so far from home and not knowing about their loved ones stuck in the middle of the war. I can no longer watch the news here, it just makes me cry because I feel so bad for everyone there.
@kgirlhart - Congratulations on a great 10K in not so great conditions!
@rheddmobile - I have been having some issues with Strava too. I am thinking about deleting the app and reinstalling it. That usually seems to fix things for me.
How are all the raccoons doing?
Got out for a walk today with my daughter before driving her up to LA to her friend's. She is visiting from Seattle and we needed to get out early before it got too hot for her. It was cool at 55F when we left so it was pretty much perfect. Going for a short hike tomorrow morning with a friend also early because it is supposed to get really hot again starting tomorrow afternoon (high 80's and 90's again) and into the middle of the week

Great job @kgirlhart !!!
Last week we celebrated our Easter; this week we celebrate with our Ukrainian guests
Looking at my training schedule, I met my goals for the week!7 -
Congrats on the race @kgirlhart it was a windy muggy kind of morning for sure and you did excellent and no more worries about that past Covid case!
I think if the war expanded further into Poland it would become a much bigger global problem since Poland is a member of Nato and therefore legally other nations CAN step in with much more force. We have a factory in Tzcew (Flextronics) where they build Printed Circuit Board Assemblies for various customer and have a common project we are concluding right now. The time difference makes it harder of course. Oh my ANOTHER mining accident. I wonder if the ground is unstable from all the activity in the Ukraine?
@quilteryoyo that's WONDERFUL about your pace and run yesterday and even keeping your heart rate lower. I am lucky to keep mine below 180 if I am pushing it. Right now I haven't been able to use my Polar strap because of my ribs and my watch inflates heart rate by at least 10 maybe more when I run. After almost 5 years of pretty solid training I do not think my cardio rate is going to decrease.. Altho lately I have tried to keep it in different zones much as you would work a muscle in different positions. It looks like your training plan is really working for you.
I did 5 miles yesterday a little faster and my injury did not get mad at me so I am happy with that. Also tried out a new brand/style of shoes - New Balance Elite V2 and was quite happy with them. They are a good light weight and were immediately comfortable on my feet. I felt like I was floating when I was running with no obvious places rubbing etc. I am lazy and would prefer if I did not have to deal with laces and the bottom seemed to have some chunks out of it after my run so I give them an A grade but still the Alpha Zoom Nikes are A++ shoes for speed and weight.
Up to 104.69 out of 125 for the month in miles so unless the weather gets really bad I am on target.4
