Pip-well the best news for Yogi would be no cancer, but it sounds like he is fortunate his parents got him in quickly and it is treatable.
Machka-Hoka’s are a bit too high arched for me. I have one high arch and one flat foot. I got another pair of new balance (different style/color) and a pair of Brooks. My feet were hurting on top so podiatrist told me to try different lacing pattern. I left a couple of eyes in the middle open and it makes a most wonderful difference. I have to wear my orthotics most of the time (I also have turf toe on both feet).

In addition to the two athletic shoes, I picked up two mary janes (one black, one navy) and a black slip-on-all Dansko's. I order a brown slip one. I do have two pair of Naot sandals I can fit my orthotics in (a navy and a burgundy). Will be gathering shoes I can't use together tomorrow to take to colleague at work to see what she can use. The rest will go to goodwill.
Friend in hospital still does not have definitive diagnosis so not sure what is going on with her. She is texting sporadically. Perhaps she will feel up to talking tomorrow when she has more test results.

We’re having a relatively quiet day. No grocery shopping so far and I’m enjoying a bit of rest. I filled our hummingbird feeders with sugar water. Watching them is a pleasure. I also enjoy the Great Blue Heron that wades in a grassy area beside the river.2

Lisa - I never experienced the favouritism in my own life growing up. My brother and I were the only grandchildren on my maternal side and we were both spoiled equally.😂
On our paternal side, my Dad was the second youngest of 7, all granddaughters received slippers or mittens for Christmas, grandsons receives wool socks or gloves.
She lived with my parents for a few years and I was the youngest granddaughter my brother was the 2nd youngest. My grandmother had great grandchildren that are my age and older so I did get favoured some from her. There were 90+ grandchildren, greats and great greats when she passed away.

We had friends that built their dream home in their early 40’s. She was adamant that they have the home built for wheelchair use later in life. Everyone thought she was going a bit overboard. They built the house In 96.
They are long haul truckers that drive team. In the early 2000’s they had a terrible accident, she ended up in a wheelchair for 3 years and he had a brain injury with a lot of balance issues. The one thing that wasn’t a worry is that they’re house was already accessible. They are both fine now and drive team again.
Terri - those are beautiful cards. I may need to dig out my embossing folders and tools.
Rita - I am going to have to buy new shirts and shorts for summer too if I don’t get stricter with myself. It’s supposed to snow this week so I don’t really need to worry yet.
Rebecca - I used to be the same way with my shampoo, I learned though for my curly hair if I spend money I’ll be much happier.
I had a wonderful day, I cleaned this morning, spent the afternoon at ceramics with my girls.
I need to buy something for Jonah. I bought Michaela’s ceramic pieces today, both of them just because she was willing to put her fairy back to do the llama bank she found. She’s been talking about the fairy for two weeks. I also ended up buying 3 onesies for Kaitlyn’s baby that isn’t even due until December. 😂
I think I’ll buy an e-card for him to use on one of his games. I can send home a code
After ceramics we stopped at the grocery for a minute. Kaitlyn bought me a beautiful bouquet of flowers.
We came home and I made homemade pizza, Kaitlyn called Rodger’s parents, and my brother to share her news. We tried my Mom but we couldn’t keep connection.
The girls both left and I had a nice long relaxing bath.
It’s a great Mothers Day weekend so far.
Rather than meeting me at ceramics, Lauryn texted me and told me that her and Michaela were coming here first. Michaela told her they had to do I could give her the 5 minute warning to leave. They walked into the house and I told her to leave her shoes on because we didn’t have enough time for a five minute warning.

Imagine ... if you had the chance to design the house of your dreams, what would you include in it? What kind of rooms? An office? A workout room? A music room? Would it be eco/green? What kind of closets?
Now, I'd like a place that is all one level with the usual living, dining, kitchen in a kind of open plan, 3 bedrooms so that we can use one as an office, big bathroom, laundry, and a bonus room for our home gym. Plus attached garage. 🙂
I'd like a deck out back as well.
All easily accessible.
Something much like this ... except I'd renovate the bathroom into one big room.

The parents didn’t get back until 12.35. We were knackered. They were absolutely over-the-moon with their first Barmitzvah experience! My son estimated it must have vost around £100,000. The best hotel, super-chef luxury food, amazing Klesmer band, dancing, chair lifts, the speeches etc etc etc. He drove us home, but I couldn't get to sleep until 3 am, as I had absorbed all their excitement!
Woke up at my usual 6.30 after a restless few hours.
Glad we could do it for them though. He is putting himself out for me next weekend for my brother's party. I have donated to my brother's favourite charity for his present, at my brother's request.

Machka-very surprised that housing layout does not have a separate master bathroom-given that it has two separate toilets and sinks. I agree-I would make one large bath or add a full second.
Tracey-how nice the girls enjoy ceramics with you.
Heather-Bar mitzvahs can indeed be expensive (around the cost of wedding). It sounds like your son went to an especially expensive one!
Barbara AHMOD- picture of Naot's in spoiler. I must admit my new balance shoes are wonderful. My days of being able to pick up anything to wear are long over. Good shoes are worth the money and while I bought several pair yesterday-they are replacing a much larger stock I have acquired. Quite possible with retirement within sight, the days of buying dress/work shoes are over!
Since I am off to Columbus for a few hours, need to get in work out and walk and a bit of house pick up before I leave.

No ... we've got a sort of "basement" which is actually a garage plus storage area under our house. The access to it is through an external door.

Barbara - it was meant to be 'chair lift' but mfp was playing up. I've corrected it.
The actual Bar Mitzvah was during covid, so numbers were very limited and no party. Since then they also missed a 40th etc so they threw the boat out. My son said he had never been to an event with so many rich people. They were definitely the poorest people there!
The food was from Nobu (look it up), Black Cod etc. And started with canapés and went on forever. He was super impressed with one of the best Klezmer bands in London and they don't come cheap. Also enjoyed the speech the boy gave about his family's ancestry, history etc.
It's great to give the parents the chance to do something different that creates memories for them. It's very hard bringing up 3 children and both working full time at high pressure.
I can rest any time I think DH is feeling it though. We have both done our exercises this morning.

There is an ensuite with shower off the master.
Then a bathroom (with separate tub and shower) and a toilet room.
The bathroom (with separate tub and shower) and toilet room is a very common setup here in Australia. We've got that in our current house, but our bathroom is bigger than the one in the floorplan I posted. Our bathroom is the size of a bedroom and we use the tub area for storage some of the time.
Personally, I'm not fond of that setup and in the floorplan, I'd make the ensuite, bathroom and toilet room all one room with a tub and shower combination, one sink and toilet, but room in case walkers or wheelchairs are needed.

Terri - That parchment craft is absolutely gorgeous. I'm trying really hard not to go look at it again, as I need to finish my current projects first, THEN unleash a new craft in my life!
Tracey - Here are the ongoing projects, some explanations and lots of pics in the spoiler:In no particular order:
1. A Girl Scout lap quilt, which I'll donate to them for their next silent auction. It's a nine-patch design, and the nine-patch squares are already complete, it's just a matter of getting it assembled and quilted.
2. Two Kokopelli bags, one in progress. I designed a rectangular bag that you see here mostly assembled (have to put on a strap, and a liner is needed). The images that make up the front and back are actually placemats that I picked up at a garage sale yonks ago. I have four of them, so I'll make two bags, one to drag my crochet around and one to sell at the farmer's market.
3. Eight chair cushions - three for the barstools, four for the dining table chairs, and one for my office chair. They will be similar designs (log cabin), but different colors for each set, red for the barstools, blue for the dining room chairs, and a combination of both for my chair.
Here are the blue, red and white jelly rolls that will be made into chair cushions
4. Hot pads. I make them out of jeans that I pick up at garage sales for 50 cents or a dollar apiece. I cut out one pocket on the back side, and then a piece of the same original jeans that I cut the pocket out of on the other side, so they match. I add a double layer of the heat shield fabric in between the two pieces, then use a bright colored strip to bind them. I've got eight or ten sets cut and ready to go, hopefully be done to sell at the first farmer's market. Once the cutting's done, the sewing is easy. Pictured are ones I've done - the one at bottom left is five years old, and the one at top right I made just a couple years back.
5. A quilt for my youngest niece and my mother's namesake, Vivyan. She reads more than any other human I know, except for my husband. I'm going to make her a bookshelf quilt. This is someone else's concept, not mine, but I fell in love with the thought of making it for her.
6. A quilt for my daughter, still designing that one in my head. She requested shades of beige, which I find depressing, but she knows what she wants. This image is probably nothing like the eventual quilt:
7. Still also noodling around a design for a quilt for my son, and his favorite color is black. Thinking about something like this:
8. Oh, and last but not least, still working on the corner-to-corner crocheted piece for my oldest grandson. It's still an amorphous thing, not exactly photogenic. I'm pretty sure it was Cheri who brought up the technique here, so many thanks to her!
When I was working, there was always a project in progress, so nothing's changed. I've just finally built myself a place where I can access the things I need any time the notion strikes me, and start working with little fuss or wasted motion (hopefully! )
Heather - The thought of spending that much on a party feels odd, but I spent a lot of time in West Texas culture, where a girl's quinceañera was handled in a similar fashion. First ball gown, etc., etc. Fathers regularly went into debt to pay for their daughter's celebration of turning 15.
It was a good day yesterday. Today will hopefully be just as good... But right now, I need to go get some fresh bread going for tonight's dinner. Corey's making stuffed mushrooms for me, and he will have BBQ pork sandwiches, and I'm going to be putting together a broccoli and cauliflower gratin for both of us.

Hi all ! I can keep up with reading all and responding to all in an online group of about 10 People. Much beyond that my life doesn't allons at présent! I'll just pop in and say HI from time to time. We're already at page 20 in 8 days!

- some parts of days are much easier than others in terms of sticking w good CICO...
- going to get a little non alarming bump checked out in a couple of weeks
- sneezy and sniffly today. "Medium" allergy alert for grasses today. I think I will take a 1st antihistamen for the year today. Maybe hold out til this evening.. it makes me sleepy and will thus be good for tomorrow...we ll see...I did have halo ice-cream yesterday...dairy which i tend to seriously avoid this season.it could be that.
- TEA I've always been a big tea or herbal tea drinker. A woman friend says something like "older ladies need warm drinks" from her observation around her.( she's not in the health field). Now I also drink coffee when out as it's now often said to be good for health as if latest..and espresso or a coffee is half the price of a tea out here !
- sunny springy after chilly morning
- have to mostly avoid sun though! Always 50 spf quality mineral sunscreen now. Only hands face and neck area, possibly ankles showing...the rest protected by clothes!

TRACEY accessible living. Wise friends. I had some friends who did that but ended up deciding to move at retirement time. My dad and others have moved bedroom down to the living room or den when mobility issues arose. Some I know built their dream homes on hills w long walks to get into house and realize they'll likely have to move at some point In 69s or 70s.
HEATHER 100k pounds even for a double party is not for the budget conscious!
I think the most expensive do I've been to that comes to mind.is my brother's wedding. Both close to 40 no kids Good middle management jobs. Maybe 30k dollars for all including hotel for wedding party members and dinner the night before and open bar in very nice place (wedding in public park!) About 20 years ago.... w probably 80 guests or so...maybe 30k 20 years ago approaches 100k today... but the tare bas batista I've been to have been WAY more modest!!
My one sister had a 1000 dollar budget! 30+ years ago... friends helping in a church room... etc simple !
Others . Catered not radically fancy w tent on family or friends land...
Or justice of peace w tiny get together after..

Terri, wow those cards. I loved seeing the detail and have done a screen shot. I like making cards but I have never done any with embossing and parchment paper.

On houses and layouts, I love simple open designs with lots of natural light.
Yesterday I went hiking with three gals. We did a lovely circle which went through forest to a bluff walk along the beach and then circled back around through another forest trail to where we began. It was 11.4 miles and I feel it in a good way today. One of the gals is very knowledgeable about plants and it was fun learning about all the edible plants. Now I just hope I retained some of what I learned. It was an enjoyable day.
Got a letter from my oldest son yesterday and his letter made me teary in a good way. He said he was so grateful I was his mother and went on to say I taught him skills that allowed him to work through difficult times in his life. He said he is glad he has me and his brother in his court and that the lack of material things and hard work necessary through the years made him stronger. It was a sweet letter. I'm always amazed that my kids don't resent the years when money was scarce.

In the early 1990's, a Russian scientist, his physician wife & their 2 young sons left Moldova with few belongings and little money. They found refuge in Richmond, VA, where I live. A few months after they arrived, their oldest son's bar mitzvah was given by Jewish community sponsors, and I was honored to be invited. It was a modest but lovely affair. The family was uplifted as their new country and their new community embraced them. I will never forget it. It is the only bar mitzvah I have ever attended. I still get tears in my eyes. The husband is now a prominent scientist in our medical college health system, and his wife is a superb bilingual community doctor.

Love the bookshelf quilt!
I know, right? I have seen some insanely complicated ones and some fairly plain ones, but they all hold appeal... and honestly, I feel as if paper books have already become mere decoration for most people. The first time I talked to someone who matched the colors of the books they bought to their decor, instead of buying a book they wanted to read, I was flabbergasted. My mother's hallway leading to the two bedrooms and the main bath was ALL bookshelves, floor to ceiling, and jammed full, every inch. I've sold or given away thousands of books over the years... but don't buy many anymore unless they're going on my Kindle. Bookshelf quilts are a way to hold onto a memory.
