Annie - I used to have the 'worst knee in the world' and have strengthened it hugely without lunges, or squats. The exercises my physio and the hospital gave me contained neither. I could not even get jn a car seat without manually lifting my knee. Now it functions perfectly for everyday life, as long as I don't overstress or twist it.

Stand on one leg and raise and lower yourself a bit. I also do small side lifts with the other leg at the same time and raise 2kg weights sideways with my arms. 15
Clamshells. These were the first ones I was given by the physio. Vital. 20
Side leg raises lying down. 20 alternate days.
Bridges. 4 And one leg mini bridges. I do 40 on each leg.

I do these every day without fail along with all my other exercises. (Rowing, cycling, cross-trainer, press ups, yoga, occasional runs) They have saved my life.

    Love Heather UK xxxxxxxx

Same exercises I was given for knee issues. Plus quad raises and twisted quad raises (I don't know what they are called).

Back in NC. Now to decipher all my notes from when I was away. There was so much more that I wanted to comment on. Decided not to log but try to make good choices. Didn't always succeed, either.

At the first hotel the treadmill kept cutting out and stopping for no apparent reason so I decided to use the elliptical instead. There was something wrong - it wasn't smooth. So I wound up using the exercise bike. When I got back, Vince said to me "there is no way you can take a shower and have breakfast by 8". Oh ye of little faith. I was ready to go by 7:55. HE wasn't ready.

    Chetah - welcome

Went to the Salvation Army in Iowa and got a few exercise DVD's and a pair of shorts. I can't remember if I have red shorts at the condo or not.

Sent a text to Denise wishing PJ a happy birthday. She sent me a text (after calling the house. Why I don't know. She knew we were in Iowa) wishing me a happy mother's day. No card. I sent her a text wishing her a happy mother's day.

Karen VA - we have an air pump that plugs into a cigarette lighter and we use it all the time. Tires and also inflatables.

Allie - kids are made of steel with a rubber coating. Glad Miles is OK. The pediatrician was probably CYA

    Katla (((HUGS)))

I've learned that I need to do HIIT. Saves time (I can do in 1/2 hr what usually takes a full hour) Rori - you've probably encountered this. Breakfast is not so great. Fitness centers are minimal. I did forget my headphones but no one seemed to mind that I had the radio on my phone going. Wish they had decent things on the breakfast. Like one hotel had oatmeal. Personally, I would have preferred original but all they had was maple brown sugar. Oh well......

pip - so sorry to hear about Yogi, but glad it's the non-spreading type

Terri - lovely card. Colby's mom just bought a few like that. They were $10 EACH

It felt so good to be back to exercising. Now I won't be able to...waaaa

Ginny - prayers for your friend.

Tracey -0 wow! what a family. Michaela paints her ceramics better than I do. I usually go by the "5 foot rule" If it looks good from 5 feet away, it's OK

Happy Mother's Day to all who celebrate

Allie - happy birthday to lil

I like ebooks. This way I don't have to worry about returning the books on time

Lisa - will have to try the "save draft". How do you get to it? Didn't you know that's how I drink tea?

To me, this was silly. The fitness center opens at 6 but I was always able to use it earlier, someone just had to open the door. Why they don't just leave it open and you need to use your room card to get in, is beyond me.

I just watched the streamed video of the graduation. You know, again I was crying just seeing Jess get her hood.

Did a load of laundry so now we can close the hamper....lol

Work tomorrow (boo). Then will put as much as we can possibly get of Jess' things into her storage unit. We were going to bring a ladder, but that was one of the things we brought back so we'll have a ladder to use.

Vicki-I believe you are thinking of Kylia in Ohio (she lives about 30 miles west of me). They own a mower repair business.

Michelle NC-glad you have made it home safely. Glad you got to be with Jess.

Allie-there is nothing wrong with an occasional lazy day. You have been doing a lot lately.

Lisa-I love the save draft function (I only use forums from computer)

Lunges-I use my bosu ball for them. Doing them with that helps with my balance. Also love the stretch I get from them.

Friend may get out of hospital tomorrow. Evidently they are going to continue trying to medicine before surgery. I am not sure exactly all they did today-tried to drain fluid somehow (she sent a bit of information to several of us and we are trying to get the whole picture). She sent me voice message and her voice sounded good-said she will be calling after she gets settled at home. I don't know if it is a traditional foot infection or arthritis related or what. I must admit I am curious-I like to know what things to look for!

    Bedtime for me.

    Take care all,

    Ginny in Ohio

    4000 steps to start day.
    good protein breakfast
264c 16g carbs 12 g fat 21 G protein. (ingredients: 10g cereal, 10g protein powder, 200c soy yogurt, 100g soy milk, 3g squash seeds, 1g coconut, 12 g dried figs (1 fig), vanilla, cardamom. I usually have fresh fruit but was out.
Going for a yearly specialist check up across town today. I need to get there 30 min early to be on the safe side plus 40 min transport. with round trip that eats up the morning. I'll bring a book on the subway.
I have had chronically low WBC count for about 15 years, so it's surveyed, nothing found. Last time the specialist wanted me to jog 10 min and eat a small chocolate bar (mid-morning) before getting blood test to "boost" my WBC. It seemed to work. I'm not keen eating sugar that I would never eat (I would rarely eat 40g of (bad) chocolate in the morning). to artificially boost my numbers. Wouldn't they prefer to know my normal number rather than an artificially boosted one?

    Morning
Yesterday spent a couple of hours volunteering at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre box office. I think I am getting the hang of the computer booking system. I managed to sell a few tickets and answer a few queries. I also remembered how to use the personal account of a customer who has had tickets credited to it from a previous show that for some reason they had been unable to attend.

Afterwards I went to mums and took her to get her blood tested at the nearby shopping centre. Her buggy was charged up and she was away - I had to ask her to slow down and not to forget I can't walk that fast :D Of course the blood taking was upstairs so we had to go up in the lift (which we both hate) we had to take a ticket ours was No 27 we took a seat and waited. Then the nurse came out and shouted No 2 :o:) yes we had a long wait, but it was over in a few minutes, mum hates needles so kept her eyes closed.

We had a look around the shops and went for a coffee, I went over my calories by choosing a piece of tiffin to go with my latte, but hey ho today is another day - I'll be mindful of what I am eating . We popped into the cemetery on the way home to check on my hubby and dad. I need to take a cloth next time to wipe the grass off the headstones. Mum got a bit stuck trying to turn around and had to get off her buggy whilst I pulled it around for her and she nearly fell over (her balance is terrible) luckily she managed to stay on her feet. Goodness knows what we'd have done if she'd fallen as there was no one around to help.

I was shattered by the time we got home, I walked over 20,000 steps which is a lot for me.

Think I'll take it easy today, although I did really want to visit my niece in Shipley - it's her mum's (my dear sister in law) birthday today. She passed away in November, and Katie is finding it hard to cope on her own. I wish I could drive. :(

Better get my exercise done, I'm feeling a bit sluggish so hopefully this will get me motivated.

    Have a good day ladies
    Love to all

Kim: Hooray for the counselling. Your mom is lucky she has such a caring daughter.
Annie: Joining Lisa and Heather on lunges. If they hurt, don't do them!

Just a question...Is anyone else using the new "Save Draft" button just below the box you post in? I've started to use it.

This meme is so me with coffee.
I've started to use the Draft button, but don't always remember 😃

Tracey, I'm so sorry Roger's comments hurt. If it helps any, jealousy is never about you. It's very possible that he's feeling insecure or he wouldn't be spouting such absolute taradiddle. Genuinely, many men of his age just don't have the tools to be able to say how they're feeling. For instance, Corey will often use a joke to say what he needs to say safely. That way, if I get ticked off, he can say, "I was just joking!" or "You know I joke about everything!" when I call him on it. I sent you a direct message. I love the procrastination meme. So me!

Viv, 20,000 steps is a lot! I'm still trying to get over 10,000.

Kim, So pleased the insurance people are coming through for you, and so glad you're going to counseling. Wish your mom would go too, but those opinions are pretty ingrained once you hit 90.

Michele - The "Save Draft" button is at the right-hand side of the screen, just below the box that holds your post in progress:
    ljsd5bzko1g9.png

I'm just heating the kettle for my third and final cup of tea. The day ahead is full of possibilities! It's already 70 degrees, so any of the outside work I want to do will have to be done after the sun comes up enough that I can see. Don't want to end up stepping on a snake... It's supposed to be up to 95 degrees today, so the inside work can be done after noon. That's what air conditioning is for! So amazing to wake up feeling like myself again. I'm so grateful for it.

    Later, y'all,
    Love,

    Good morning ladies!

Hmmm. This community seems to be against lunges for me. It would be childish and stubborn to oppose that much wisdom. Time for me to reconsider.

I did find a video on Yoga for Sensitive Knees. I can try that tomorrow. Tonight is dumbbells. But first is grocery shopping.

Have you been to a sports doctor or physiotherapist about your knees? It really is a good idea. :)

Tracey - Big hugs. It may be that he is feeling sensitive to the fact that you are keeping the whole thing going. The Amazon thing was weird though. I'd be a bit paranoid too! :p
Can you chat, once you are all calmed down, just to see if anything is bothering him. Men are useless at saying what they are feeling.

My DH expressed his dislike of my listening to my favourite podcasts and videos this morning. Basically he is jealous, I think. He is jealous of this thread, the attention I give my friends, the people in the media I like, etc etc. It is just insecurity. He is suspicious of all 'celebrity ' and I have had to surmount and ignore his dislike of all that to get on with doing my own work on my books , Instagram etc. It's his problem, not mine, and makes his life smaller. I take a deep breath and continue to lead mine.

Otherwise we get on well. Picking up Bea today and seeing all the grandchildren. Then tomorrow night he actually suggested :o going to an Afro-Carribean music performance on the seafront. I was amazed. It's only for an hour and we can take a picnic.

Love you all, Heather UK xxxxxx

That name sounds right Kylia and they own a mower repair business. Has anyone heard anything from her?

Tracey--Hugs. I do not understand the games some men feel the need to play.

Doctor's appointment yesterday went well. He noticed I have lost over 20 pounds in the last year and said my heart is doing very well. Don't have to go back for another year.

Today after work will go vote. I will be so glad when this is over, I am tired of the robo calls at home, on my cell and at work. Also the ads on TV are terrible. Everyone wants to dig up dirt and if they can not find any they make it up.

Have my monthly management meeting this afternoon. I do not like meetings. Then tomorrow morning I have an 9am meeting with the new CEO of our division. He has decided to tour each of the 28 hospitals and meet with management staff one on one. Be glad when that is over also.

Tracey ... so sorry you had a bad day. I ditto the others ... men are horrible at communicating. Hugs.

Vicki ... yay for the good doctor's visit!

Kim ... Glad you will be able to get counseling through this difficult time.

Annie ... I'm on the "no lunges" train too.

    Machka and everyone,
I did see a diagnostic physical therapist maybe seven years ago. My boyfriend at the time insisted after my knee gave out on two separate vacations trying to keep up with him. He was the one who told me my knee is built a little crooked.

Since then I have been doing clamshells with a band, side lifts with two pound ankle weights, bridges and unweighted squats plus stretches. All as part of my dumbbells routine. I could try single leg bridges but that feels like a lot of weight for me.

It's slowly getting better. I can use the stairs now with a little twinge. Than you all for your concern. 😊

    Groceries today and dumbbells tonight.

    Have a great day ladies!
